"When in Lisbon , most tourists make a beeline to Antiga Confeitaria to try its world-famous pastelde Belém . The legendary custard tart is indeed delicious, especially when dusted with a healthy dose of cinnamon, but what these travelers don’t know is that is that the ones at Manteigaria are just as good—if not better. Plus, Manteigaria features an open kitchen, where you can watch the creamy treats make their way from dough to delivery. Avoid the crowds in Belém andget your pastelde nata here instead, then ride out your sugar rush nearby on the atmospheric Praça Luís de Camões in Chiado."

Google
all time best pastry that i tried, nobody does it to the same quality as here. the staff are friendly and work quickly which is necessary as a line does queue up, but it goes fast. i can’t praise the staff enough 10/10 recommend couldn’t stop coming back haha!

Google
Very good. Thin crispy shell, super lucky cos they have a new batch just as I came, it was still piping hot. Filling is not exactly like a custard, it's very unique, like an appropriate amount of filling had been added. Filling is however quite oily, as you can see from the video. It's also a little too sweet Come early because it's super crowded with tourists after 10am

Google
My friend recommended me this place and this did NOT disappoint! This pastel de nata was DIVINE. Still warm, perfect crispy and light pastry, with a beautiful custard that is so creamy and not too sweet. I wish I could’ve eaten 10 of these. 1 x pastel de nata was under 2 euros to dine in. The staff were also super friendly and lovely which made for a nice environment. 5 stars for sure ⭐️

Google
Their pastel de nata is probably the best I’ve ever had—honestly, it’s incredible. The base is thin and crusty, with a smooth custard inside and just a hint of cinnamon. There’s no seating area, but even though it’s a bit narrow, you can stand at the counter and enjoy your nata with coffee or tea. They also offer packaging for takeaway if you want to bring some home or eat on the go. Just a heads-up: there may be a queue at the door if you go after 10am on the weekend, so plan accordingly.

Google
The pastel de nata was delicious, and watching the staff prepare it was a good experience. However, I was disappointed by the lack of seating. Since it wasn't a takeaway order, I was hoping to sit down for a few minutes to enjoy my coffee and pastel de nata, especially after a long day. Standing to eat something that should be savored made it hard to truly enjoy the moment, as I was too tired to fully appreciate it.

Google
Manteigaria is worth the try. The pastry is crisp and light, and the custard is smooth with just the right amount of sweetness. They serve them warm, which makes all the difference. You can see the team working in the back, which adds to the experience. It's simple, fast, and delicious! Oh, and the hot chocolate and coffee were also tasty!

Google
Really good pastel de nata and great coffee too. You get to watch them make the pastries live which is a fun thing to do as you enjoy your coffee. Reasonable prices and friendly staff. Must checkout if you are in the neighborhood

Anna

Google
Okay these were by far the BEST pastels de nata be had during our 9 days in Lisbon. They're fast and the menu is simply, but the pastries and coffee were delicious.

Yelp
I have 3 places for the best Pastel de Natas bookmarked. This is my firs stop because it is near where I am staying. Believe me when I say after one bite, you will slap the counter like Meg Ryan. Love that it wasn't too sweet and the flaky crust was perfect. It was right out of the oven and piping hot. You can sprinkle some cinnamon powder that is available on the counter. We also had the hot chocolate and it was another OMG moment. Yeah, I might be stopping by every night before heading back to my suite. Service was super friendly. I already want another one as I am writing this review.

Yelp
Trying to figure out if Manteigaria's Pastel de Nata was the best in the city was a challenge! I will say it was amazing. I'm torn between this one and the other top contender that's in Belem. Both purely delicious in their own way. I was lucky not to hit the long line!

Yelp
Pastel de nata is a classic Portuguese snack/dessert that's practically synonymous with the cuisine of the country, and it's easy to see why at Manteigaria! This is a famous chain bakery serving up one thing and one thing only: Portuguese egg custard tart pastries, and coffee if you'd like. The cafe itself is located just outside of the quaint city square of Praça Luís de Camões, with an elegant stone exterior and a cozy interior: there's a small area to queue up, and behind the glass windows, you can see the bakers painstakingly and efficiently crafting each tart. At around 4:30pm on a weekend, there was a line out the door to sample the classic confections, but it moves quite quickly - you simply order, pay, and are promptly handed your tarts and/or coffee. Each tart is €1.40 (also note that you can order multiple at a time, but it isn't any cheaper per unit), which I think is actually not bad at all, considering they very well could price gouge if they wanted to. It's the perfect finger food: two to three bites of creamy, custardy goodness encased in flaky puff pastry. The custard itself isn't too dense, and much softer than the Hong Kong egg tarts that I'm used to - it's almost like a French creme brulee, especially with the slightly crackly burnt-sugar top that gives the tarts their signature coffee-colored spots, The flaky pastry is buttery and rich with the perfect texture, serving to encase the decadent filling and holding its own structurally. Paired with a hearty Americano, this is a lovely small breakfast or afternoon pick-me-up that I will happily return to again and again - I can highly recommend Manteigaria as one of the best (if not the best) pastel de nata bakeries in the city!

Yelp
Pastel de natas became a favorite sweet treat on our recent trip to Lisbon and of all the bakeries we had a chance to try, Manteigaria was the freshest pastry and creamiest filling we had our whole trip! They know what they are doing and offer great and fast service, and functional packaging for taking your treats and toppings to go.

Yelp
Lisbon is the land of tiled walls, steep hills, and this custard crack in a tart shell. Enter Manteigaria, the official pusher of the pastel de nata, Portugal's golden child. This flaky little bombshell is buttery, blistered perfection with a creamy custard center. Better make it two. They serve it warm, because apparently they do care about your feelings.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
These were our favorite pastel de nata! To be they had the perfect amount of crispness to the crust, and delicious sweet filling. Definitely get the cherry liqueur with them, it's an unbelievable combination!
google avatar

Bill P.

Yelp
Just arrived in Lisbon and while walking around found this place, read about it before we arrived and it was every bit as delicious as the reputation. Two pastries and two espressos 4.5 euros great value. Worth the line.
google avatar

Alexander C.

Yelp
Amazing, fresh, warm pastel de nata in a lively food hall setting. Great to eat on the go or to take home!
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and i were in Lisbon for a week and these custard pies are all over the place. The same day we took a train out of town to try the first ones of these custards. They are super tasty pastry cups filled with a sweet custard. Then you put cinnamon and sugar. Manteigaria was right around the corner from our hotel, so we tried one from here. I liked this one more! Stiffer custard and not as messy. You also get to see the workers making them, there are hundreds of the little tarts everywhere. Very cool. I didn't add the sugar and cinnamon before, big mistake, they are a huge edition. They are cheap and GOOD!
google avatar

Penprapha B.

Yelp
Cute cafe. Staff are very friendly and accommodated. The pastry is a little too sweet for my liking, but had to try!
google avatar

Judy L.

Yelp
I didn't care for these. Was way too sweet and too much cinnamon flavor and not enough flaky crust. Sorry to say but the frozen ones from Costco which is imported from Portugal was better and half the cost! I wonder which bakery in Portugal they get it from?
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
You can't really go wrong with this place! This was the last stop on our food tour and my first time trying a pastel de nata! The fact they are super fresh makes them the best!
google avatar

Thanuja V.

Yelp
One of the best versions of pasteis de natas in Portugal. Absolutely love their variation and it is more light and fresh compared to most out there Highly recommend checking this out over other popular spots. We also tried the delicious sweet drink offered in store that is a must!
google avatar

Ronda S.

Yelp
We tried pastel de nata at three other places. This is the one. Freshly made, still warm, flaky crust, smooth, not-too-sweet custard - sooo dang good! After a native from Lisbon recommended we sprinkle with cinnamon, it was actually even better, and that seemed impossible. Wish I had one right now.

Yelp
Whelp...I'm officially hooked on pastei de nata. Manteigaria is well-known as one of Lisbon's most popular fabrica de nata shops, and for good reason -- they've truly mastered the art of creating the most incredible pastei de nata, with a perfectly creamy, custardy center, delightfully bruleed top, and the most incredible, flaky crust. They do run a little bit sweet compared to most other Portuguese shops, but it's still one of the most incredible pastries you'll ever have. And, when paired with a nice bitter espresso, it's perfect. As you walk through the streets of Baixa, you'll be lured in by the incredible scent of pastei de nata baking away. Eventually, the sweet, buttery fragrance will lead you to this small, but often crowded shop, where you'll have the joy of seeing a giant pastry case of exclusively pastei de nata, as well as a window into their back kitchen -- if you're lucky, you'll even get to see the magic come together as they whip up a new batch! They have a narrow counter along the window into their kitchen, where you can stand and enjoy your pastries and coffee. However, there isn't any seating, so most people will only stick around for at most ~15 minutes.

Jeanee V.

Yelp
My friends and I went to several places to find the very best - ladies and gentlemen, this is it!! Can't give a higher rating for this pastry. They have mastered the art of baking these. The end result is a warm, buttery, flakey, heavenly bite of goodness. Don't forget to sprinkle cinnamon on top! While you eat, you can watch them make these from scratch. Service is fast - they really have a system down to get through a lot of people and hand these over fresh! It's a small place, but welcoming. You really have to visit this place if you're in Portugal... like I said, it's the absolute best you can get.
google avatar

Nicole D.

Yelp
**EAT HERE** If you want Pasteis that taste exactly like Pasteis de Belem, then go to the Time Out Market and find Manteigaria! They make them fresh all day. The Pasteis is hot and gooey and sweet and delicious!!!
google avatar

Victoria W.

Yelp
This was one of two of our favorite Pasteles de Nata shops in Lisbon. The lines seem to always be long but they move fast! The egg tarts have a great flaky texture and are perfectly sweet. They definitely live up to their reputation!
google avatar

Nina H.

Yelp
This place was solid and it was right by my hotel. It wasn't my favorite, but it was a worthy pastel de nata still.
google avatar

Angela T.

Yelp
A must stop when you're in Portugal! We were told there is another version in Belem, but we were unable to make it there. This place was also recommended, and it was interesting to watch the whole pastel process! Be prepared to wait in line, but the line moves quickly! You are served pastels freshly made and warm! We were happy to try them since it is a popular item in Portugal, If you are also a coffee lover, the coffee was ok, but found tastier coffees, on our travels through Lisbon
google avatar

Victoria S.

Yelp
This place was recommended by our night tour guide (walked by it en route to a miradouro). They specialize in Pastel de Natas. Saw a long queue around 8:30pm and was curious. We came back the next day early afternoon to try. Because they Pastel de Natas are in such demand they don't sit around all day. They are continously baked fresh, as seen through glass windows separating the counter space from the kitchen. We each ordered one and sprinkled some cinnamon on top. The tart was still warm. The pastry shell was so crispy and light. The charred topping was almost creme brulee-esque. The egg yolk custard on the inside was creamy and soft, unlike the kind you get in the states (which is almost gel-like). We've tried other Pastel de Natas from other places near us but Manteigaria is one of the best, if not the best.
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Amazing... fast service, warm, and simply no way to describe how good they are. I had them plain; I had them with cinnamon; I had them with powdered sugar; I had them with coffee. I suppose if my hotel is across the street, it was easy to get there right when they opened in the morning and before I called it a night, they were still open. Everyone was friendly, to include the workers who were making the pasteis who let me take photos. A class operation!
google avatar

Sam E.

Yelp
My educated take on this topic: if you want a sweeter tart, head to Manteigaria, if you want a not so sweet treat but equally delicious: go to Pastéis de Belém. There was a slight line out the door to enter Manteigaria but it goes quickly and smells amazing. While you wait, you can view the process of them making these tasty tarts. Once you get them, prepare to bite into a flaky crust and creamy interior. Well worth the pence paid!
google avatar

Quang B.

Yelp
I came here 1st to get a taste of the egg custard. Gotta watch the prices - it costs more for takeaway... so I decided to eat there (which is pretty much those stool seated with the view of watching them make egg custard). I was mesmerized but their efficiency and process. I then came back after roaming around the city, and got another one to cleanse my palette. According to Google - this is one of the best egg custard place to go. Sooo good. I'll come here anytime I'm visiting this city
google avatar

Damiano D.

Yelp
After lunch I went to get a Pastel de nata to this place and I was satisfied of the delicious taste of them; Great with the coffee and it was nice to see the process to make them; You can see the pastries chefs making these delicacies while you enjoy your fresh Pastel de nata with your espresso. Good experience!

Henrieta P.

Yelp
The pastéis de nata here are absolutely fantastic - crisp, creamy, and fresh out of the oven. You can really taste the difference! A must-try when in Lisbon! We loved it as much as we loved the Pasteis de Belem.
google avatar

Jay Y.

Yelp
Instantly became my favorite pastel de nata of our Lisbon trip... we tried several other places but this ranked #1 in my book along with many other people. Also tried their cold lemon tea and it was also very good. It's worth the wait and get at least 6 more to go as they package them well...
google avatar

Christine A.

Yelp
Spent the holidays in Portugal and taste tested several pastel de nata while there. Manteigaria was the top for us. The custard to pastry ratio was perfect and the flakiness of that crust was lovely. Our favorite location was in Principe Real, the freshness was unparalleled due to the volume of baking and foot traffic. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon to enhance the flavor. Yum!
google avatar

Franco C.

Yelp
Allegedly, the best pão de nata in Lisbon. You should try them! Amazing taste! Buttery crisp crust and sweet and creamy filling. Size is perfect. There will be queue for sure, but they operate remarkably fast. Take 1 or 2 to go and stroll out! A few customers can sit in the coffee bar and enjoy a nice cup of coffe with their pão. I still think you are better of taking them to go. The street is so walkable right in the heart of Rossio that you will enjoy a sweet treat while you stroll...
google avatar

Tessa S.

Yelp
This was my first time trying a pastel de nata and I definitely came to the right place. I loved how flavorful the filling was and the texture of the pastry. It was super flakey, yet creamy at the same time.
google avatar

Mary H.

Yelp
Fantastic pastel de nata. I'm no connoisseur by any means but we had heard good things about this spot and decided to wander in during our trip. There was no line when we went but some groups arrived right after. We were very pleased! Would definitely return.
google avatar

Liberty G.

Yelp
This is the pasteis de nata you deserve after a long day of breathing. A reward for being yourself. A treat for being present. There's nothing better than a warm, flaky, custardy, caramelized, crispy, silky, fresh pastry paired with coffee. Cute shop, fast friendly service, you see them being made fresh, great price and I did touchless payment.
google avatar

Luiza M.

Yelp
Must try Pastel de Nata when in Lisbon - pro tip, i went to the Time Out Market for it and there was no line!
google avatar

Liann A.

Yelp
One of the top competitors as good as the ones from Belem to get in Lisbon for Pastel de Nata or Portuguese egg tarts! This one is topped with sugar and cinnamon. So creamy and flaky. Very delicious warm, my mouth is watering typing this all out!
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
Delicious pastel de nata - order at an indoor counter and sit outside under umbrellas. Very reasonably priced. Lots of articles claiming these are better than their famous neighbor Pasteis de Belém.
google avatar

Arthur F.

Yelp
This was an awesome pastel de Nata. It was based on the suggestion of a couple getting their wedding photos.
google avatar

Molly H.

Yelp
This was our favorite Pastel de Nata we had! It being our first time in Lisbon we had many, many, many of these custard tarts. My sister and I both agreed Manteigaria was worth the hype! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Lauren T.

Yelp
Heard this had really good egg tarts, but to be honest, I found them too sweet. Maybe it's because I'm not used to Portuguese egg tarts, but I'm also not really a fan of the cinnamon taste.
google avatar

Lucia D.

Yelp
Delicious custard pastries. We tried these in several places. These are my favorite.
google avatar

Gabriella C.

Yelp
First time trying natas! Love how you can see the process of making them! They were so custardy and gooey - and enjoyed the powdered sugar and cinnamon that you can top them off with yourself. Very good dessert!! Service was quick - small space so more of a grab and go situation!
google avatar

Isabella C.

Yelp
ok the pasteles de nata are AMAZING. The inside was sooo creamy and melted in my mouth and I loved adding in the powdered sugar and cinnamon on top. I loved the crust as well and now it flaked away while eating the pastry. The service was fast and the staff was nice!
google avatar

Amelia M.

Yelp
Just the best pastel de natas you'll ever have. Can't recommend enough. Always warm, great prices, and consistent.
google avatar

Andrea H.

Yelp
OMG! Died and went to pastels de nata heaven. Our Air bnb host referred us here by saying they were the best in Lisbon. Yup, definitely and plan on going back today. Small place where you watch the pastries being made by a very proud baker. Added some cin and sugar and opened wide. DELISH!
google avatar

Will S.

Yelp
Mmmmmm. Hell ya. A good pasteis de nata is never as good as getting it from the source. I found this out when I had it Spain after visiting Lisbon. This company is the source. While the original pastel comes from the St Belem monastery in Lisbon, the recipe is followed devoted here at -- Manteigaria, located in multiple locations in the city. The resulting pastel is a custard with a crust I've never had. It's got layers of thin pastry almost like filo but you know it's not. It is addicting and managed to have this everyday when I was visiting. It is customary to have an espresso and a port with a pasteis de nata any time of day. Sprinkle the pasteis with cinnamon to add that layer but am just as content eating it plain with a coffee and a port chaser. Service was super helpful in over 5 locations I visited. End of Yelp
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
Wanted a paste de nata, came in bought 6 pieces for €7.80, a Americano ice coffee with very little ice. Pastel de nata was still warm fresh out of the oven, the pastey cream slightly sweet with hints of fresh cinnamon and rhe puff pastry had a nice crispy shell with every bite. For a table of 3 ppl it was perfect, we each got 2 natas and ice coffee. Great to finish the afternoon right before going into siesta mode, i can definitely get used to this.
google avatar

Clara C.

Yelp
Pretty good pasteis de nata, the famous Portuguese egg tarts If you see a long line outside, you can turn around and head to any of their two other locations that are close together. They're not too far. Here they serve the egg tarts, of course. The egg tarts are good. If you eat there, they have a small counter area looking into the bakery where they make the pastries nonstop. They have public powdered sugar and cinnamon containers. They also offer coffee. I recommend stopping by here when you're checking out the city center. There is no restroom inside at this location. They accept credit card payments.
google avatar

Sharon T.

Yelp
There was a long line in this little bakery, even in the late evening. There are no seating areas and very little standing room. The pastry was tasty and had the crispy and crunchy crust that we expected, but i think the other bakeries in downtown Lisbon was just as tasty and easier to travel to. Would definitely stop by, if in the area, but don't go out of your way to travel to them.
google avatar

Caili C.

Yelp
Yum! I really liked the pasteis de nata here at Manteigaria. The pastries are nice and flaky and I find that there is a bit more cinnamon flavor in the custard than other bakeries that specialize in pastel de nata. I'm not a huge fan of cinnamon but I know locals love to sprinkle it on their pastries. Overall a really nice treat and I'd recommend getting it warm if possible as it's a tad sweet for me when it's cold.
google avatar

Miriam C.

Yelp
Food was tasty but much sweeter than I desired. The crust was amazingly flaky but I wish this had half the amount of sugar. I know everyone likes these little pastry treats but if you prefer non-sweet treats maybe order one to share rather than one per person. The workers are efficient and welcoming with the first question being how you plan to eat them, in store or take away. Then the next question is cash or card for payment. Casual location, accepts both cash and credit cards. It's a must try when in Portugal.
