The 85 Best Airbnbs and Vacation Rentals in the World, According to Super-Travelers

"This one-bedroom, one-bath cottage in Canterbury boasts indoor and outdoor tubs, plush bedding, and a cozy woodburning stove, but what really sealed the deal for Lisa Jansen, author of the travel memoir Life Done Differently, was the location overlooking beautiful Lake Tekapo on New Zealand’s South Island." - Ashlea Halpern

The property was the size of a house, so there was plenty of room for all of us. Everything was beautiful with a fully equipped kitchen allowing us to prepare meals. Very comfortable. Heated floors in the bathrooms, very luxurious. The only issue I had was that I was travelling with elderly parents and the stairs were a bit of a challenge for them (not that the stairs were challenging but I am finding stairs are an issue for my parents in general and might be for other travelers as well). Take the short walk down to the Lake through the park next to the hotel and enjoy the spectacular views. It was also great to enjoy the hot tub. We really enjoyed our stay here.

The house was very spacious and well-equipped, with the great convenience of a garage with direct access. The area is beautiful and quiet. We had a small issue during our stay, but the Hotel Manager, P.M., was super professional and very kind. Truly appreciated!

Got quite a good deal on my stay. Easy check in tho we arrived after reception hours. Place was not new but it was clean and well maintained. Rooms were very comfortable as well and location was good. Was great that they provide good quality toiletries in the bathroom.

We spent 3 nights here in unit 18. Loved it! A really nice, spacious and well appointed, 2-storey unit. Adequate pots, pans and utensils in the kitchen and fast, strong WiFi. A short walk, over the great little footbridge and you're in the little town of Lake Tekapo and the Dark Sky Experience Building. Plenty of eateries and a small, 4 Square supermarket. The brief interactions we had with the staff were friendly and welcoming. There's a central swimming pool in the circular shaped complex of units, but we went brave enough for a dip in November's cool temperature. 😂

Fantastic place to stay! We had a gorgeous 3 bedroom place with a private garden which also had access to a shared pool. House was clean, modern, spacious and very cozy. We loved it!

The location was reasonable, with it being a short, flat walk to the town centre. The 3 bedroom villa was large. The decor and inclusions were very odd. I think this may be one of those places where the villas a privately owned and they each have different furniture and equipment. The common facilities (like pool, BBQ) were run down and there were weeds all around common areas. Bedrooms and bathrooms were relatively clean but kitchen, living, dining, stairs were not clean - I think the cleaning team focuses on specific areas. The floor downstairs was dirty and I don't think it has been mopped in some time. The villas are stacked quite close together and we got parked in by a neighbour who put multiple cars in their driveway. We also had issues with noise from an all night party 3 villas down - there were about 20 people staying in that villa but because there is no overnight reception there isn't much oversight of what happens in the villas once the office is closed.

Stayed just one night check in was easy & friendly we are gold members the welcome drinks have to be collected at another nearby hotel which is a bit odd. The unit was very clean although I did have to empty the clean dishwasher myself. It unit has many heating options although the master bed only had an electric blanket for half the bed haha I also thought there would be cooking stuff like oil & tomato sauce ect no big deal just a heads up. It’s a well equipped unit. In a nice area. I wish there was a bath a robes 🤣🤣

Good sized rooms. Needs investment, furniture is old and tired, poorly equipped eg only 2 proper wine glasses, some areas dusty, outside areas need work, maintenance not great. Not luxury by any stretch of the imagination. Might be OK for rural NZ but not anywhere else.
