We visited the exhibition on the coronation of King Charles X. The exhibition was stunning and extremely well presented, telling a story from the death of King Louis XVIII to the coronation. This was the first public display of the regalia and robes for 200 years, in fact since the event itself, which was the last ever coronation for a French Monarch.

On google maps the museum is listed as open and on many websites it is listed as free entrance museum first sundays at the each month. I lost an hour on my off day to go there to find out it is closed. What a disrespectful way to treat the public.

The manufacturer was closed over the holidays and I was heartbroken. I literally touched the building in reverence. Gobelins has been the tapestry maker for France since approximately Louis IV. They still restore and maintain all the French antiquities that are owned by the French government. Epic. Some day I hope to visit and purchase anything, even a Keychain.

Small but wonderful gallery of tapestries from the Gobelin museum. Extraordinary colours and detail can be found in old and more recently woven works. Well worth a visit and deserves to be better known.

Excellent tour to see both tapestries and carpets being hand made - each a multi-year project by incredibly skilled crafts professionals.

France's historic tapestry workshop still operates using 17th-century techniques. Guided tours (Wednesdays only) reveal weavers creating masterpieces thread by thread. The onsite museum displays priceless tapestries, including designs by contemporary artists like Louise Bourgeois.

Rate average considering a 4 for the palace and a 2 for the item. But of course if you want to visit you know that you will see only very well and colourful tapestry.

Saying nothing about the partner who thought it was where they made vaccum cleaners! This was originally a dyeing workshop set upin 1440 by the gobelin brothers. It became a tapestry factory in the 17th century. Louis XIVtook it over and gathered the greatest craftsmen of the times together. they were to furnish his palace at Versailles. Today weavers still work here.
