Manzanita Cottages

Vintage charm inside and out. Lovely flora and well-kept grounds with a wishing well in the center of the four cottages. We stayed in the Yellow cottage and it was just perfect for three of us. The king size bed was very comfy and even the pullout couch was surprisingly decent and comfortable. The linens and towels were upscale. Very fresh and clean. Kitchen had beyond the few basics including dishes, flatware, full size fridge with freezer, and a nice coffee maker to make fresh coffee. The location was ideal because it was so quiet-no noise from PCH. Very close to town, just a few minutes’ drive. Very good communication and tips on staying at the cottages. Excellent communication from Sean who was extremely helpful and very prompt with replies. FYI: The front entrance has quite a few stairs. There’s a back entrance accessed via the high school parking lot that made it easier, but still a bit of a challenge for us seniors with a rolling suitcases (and a recent hip replacement ;)). Still, we managed and would definitely stay here again!

A beautiful, vintage space in walking distance to the ocean. The unit had everything we needed and the bed was comfortable. The entire property was elegant and well maintained. The staff were very friendly and responsive. A great space in Laguna!

We hosted our multi-family group in the cottages and our stay was so special. We felt like we were able to give our out of town guests a taste of vintage Laguna charm, but the updates in each cottage meant that everyone was very comfortable. We heard many positive comments about: the high quality of the beds, the unique design of each cottage and the proximity to downtown and the beach. There are parking spaces provided but we also found free street parking on the block in just a few minutes. The manager was highly accommodating and attentive especially on check-in day.

We had a wonderful stay at this quaint little cottage in Laguna Beach. The location was perfect—we could walk to everything, including the beach. The cottage itself was very comfortable and made for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. We would definitely stay here again.

Great little gem walking distance to downtown Laguna. I staid int he studio, perfect for 1 or 2 people. My favs were very strong water pressure and very hot. Manzanita is very easy to work with. Thanks, Sean. JH

Great location. Cottages are charming, clean and well stocked. Would stay again. Parking is a big challenge- our car is on bigger side, so assigned parking was tight- but it worked out, we parked down the street.

The Green Cottage was perfect for our sister trip! It was even more beautiful (and spacious) than the photos showed. We could easily walk to all of the great cafes and restaurants, plus the beach, and had a very relaxing place to return to each day. Absolute bonus was the tiny hummingbird nest outside our window with a mama and two teeny baby birds. Would highly recommend!

We had a great stay at the blue manzanita cottage. Everything was clean and comfortable. The cottage grounds are well kept and beautiful. We liked the privacy and how quiet it was, so much better than staying in a hotel. It’s a quick walk to downtown and very convenient. We found a gem, recommend staying here!

Both the living room and bedroom of our yellow cottage had wonderfully quiet ceiling fans and there was air-conditioning. We stayed in a particularly warm November of 2025 and kept the windows slightly a jar all day and even in the evening - it was ideal. FYI: The front entrance has quite a few stairs. Steep stairs. There's a back entrance accessed via the high school parking lot that made it easier to load and unload, but still a bit of a challenge for us seniors with rolling suitcases (and a recent hip replacement ;)). Still, we managed and would definitely stay here again!

Very cute set of four Cottages in a studio located just above the main part of Laguna beach. Easy walk down the hill to restaurants etc. Cottages cute and well appointed it. It is old. Forest Creek, lighting is marginal, windows are old. Comfortable for sure. Everything you need is here. AC in both living room and bedroom. Also ceiling fans. Bathroom is small, very vintage, but with fabulous water pressure. There is a lower gate that cuts your walk time down to the main part of laguna. Management is good, very communicative. That small issue with front door lock which got immediate response.

Wonderful place to stay! We stayed in the green cottage for 3 nights to celebrate our anniversary. We can't wait to stay here again and try another cottage. The minute we stepped foot through the top gate, we were embraced by gardens and the cottages captivating architecture, transporting us straight into a historic village of Europe. The cottage a separate living room, dining area, kitchen, master bedroom and full bath. The king size bed was comfortable and the closet offered ample storage space so we could keep everything neat and tidy. The water pressure was amazing, it became hot almost immediately and made you feel like you were at home. One evening, we decided to fire up the grill and it worked perfectly. As for the gas fireplace, it added a touch of old-world charm to our romantic evenings. Also, the cottages have lights on the outside, which light up the pathways just enough. Location was lovely, tucked into a nice neighborhood, just far enough away from the hustle of the main beach and downtown area, but close enough to get there with an easy walk. The gated entrance at the top where we parked our car and the secure gate down the back that led us into town were both locked with a code. Knowing we were well-protected gave us peace of mind during our entire stay. They also provided beach chairs and umbrella! We couldn't resist lounging by the mesmerizing waves, basking in the sun, and simply enjoying the serene beach life. It truly completed our Laguna Beach experience! Thank you, Manzanita Cottage, for creating the perfect backdrop for our anniversary celebration. We'll forever cherish the memories made in this oasis of tranquility. Can't wait for our next adventure back to Laguna Beach!

Quaint and darling cottages. We stayed in the blue cottage. We had issues with the porch lights going off while we were BBQ everything went Black. Reached out to the management and nothing was done to rectify the situation. Poor communication! Also, no Wine glasses to enjoy our special bottle of Wine. They only had fogged up plastic ones. We had to go to the store and buy our own. The cottage it self needs some TLC and some basic deep cleaning. Windows were dirty and the chipped paint around the pane of the windows was definitely sad to look at. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The shower was very tiny with low pressure. The gardens are magical with gorgeous flowers and scrubs. The wishing well in the center of the garden lends a magical and welcoming touch. Hopefully, the owners will take time to give some well deserved love to the cottages as we would truly like to revisit on our next trip to Laguna Beach.

Laguna Beach is a hilly community with beautiful views. On Manzanita, located off of Park, about 2,000' up a hill from PCH is the rental property. The part of the premises facing the road is four garages. The address is not prevalent and I did not readily find it. There is a locked gate for which a code is inputted unlocking it. It is awkward entering the code because the thingamajig is closer to waist level than eye level. Upon entering, an expanse of an old, wide stairwell opens before you. Really welcoming albeit one must be fit. I didn't want my 80yo ma visiting, so fine by me. The gardens are aromatic lush, cottage style. There is water flowing, comfortable seating. Busy with birds, bees and a bunny or two. Flowers are popping up everywhere. I cut a bouquet of freesia for the table. The individual cottages are lovely. There are 4 one room cottages identified by the door color, and a studio. Each of the cottages has a private patio (except mine, as the studio window opens to the patio). There is no way to ensure privacy in the Red Door rental. The cottage is sturdy with an early California feel. The important things are clean and modern, like the shower (with a skylight) and the kitchen. There is a pitcher of water in the fridge. A toaster oven, microwave. A two burner gas oven with a beautiful tea kettle which while nice to look at, was awkward to use. Luckily I could heat up water in the microwave. The bed is gorgeous and I felt like a princess in the lovely linens. There is a heater/ac unit in the bedroom and a separate one for the living room. Each with a remote control so, for example, you can get in bed before turning the heat off at night then turn it on before getting out of bed. Love. There is a gas fireplace that I used every night. This is California so there is a lo-flow mechanism in the shower. But the water was hot and no wait for it. I do have a complaint about the bathroom. The toilet extends and partially blocks the entrance to the bathroom. I get it, the room is small but sheesh, the light to the bathroom is on the other side of the toilet. I got a heck of a bruise on my left shin from hitting it the first few nights. (And dude, fix the broken mirror). The lovely walk in closet was perfect for all my clothes. I hate clutter and appreciate all the deep drawers and shelves. I got creeped out every night because there is a mirror on the back of the bedroom door. So when you get up in the middle of the night to take care of business, you see a stranger moving in the room! I got so scared that I would forget to not kick the toilet. Eventually, I just covered the mirror with one of the deliciously lush and large bathroom towels. I got a lovely work out walking up and down this wee hill everyday. The first night I was a just tad tipsy after two glasses of wine with dinner. I would have thought the walk would have sobered me, but no. I couldn't for the life of me, open the cottage door. I called the owner who was sweet and helped me. It's the stupid technical stuff that any 5-50 year old understands that confuses this old fart. But NTL, I had an immediate response. The location is walking distance to everything. There is a trolley but at this time odd year, just on weekends. What a disappointment. So plan around that. There are many hiking opportunities. Wilderness, shore, neighborhood and stores. All fascinating and worth the exploration. You will be catered to in this neighborhood. And for the most part, I was. I love shopping. I tried on dozens of shoes over two days at one store before spending $255 for a pair of shoes. Yes, they are remarkable. Nitchell assured me they will be wonderful to wear dancing. I recommend this rental which like it's neighborhood, is quant, quiet, colorful and graciously inviting.

We stayed at the yellow cottage and had *the best* time. We enjoyed walking to the village for breakfast, the beautiful fountain, and the cozy accommodations! This cottage could not have been any more perfect for a romantic weekend away, and we are so thankful to Neil for an amazing stay. The bed was super comfortable, location perfect, and the ambience was excellent. Thank you thank you! Can't wait to come back next year!

Husband & I came here for our 12th anniversary & it was so lovely. This is truly a special & charming property. We will return. The cottage is quaint but not for everyone; love staying at older, unique places. Small cottage but perfect for us 2. Living room had a comfy beige sofa, I noticed a few stains but I ignored that. The gas fireplace added a tranquil & homey ambiance, but provided no heat. Also, don't turn the gas too high when lighting. You'll be in for a fiery display & do not get too close. Walk-in closet was so cool, it opened to both the living room & bedroom. The bedroom was very peaceful & quaint. The bed was comfortable, but pillows too high/thick. Bathroom was small, we don't need a lot of space. I loved the small shower, so full of character. Tile was beautiful & skylight was a nice added feature. My husband prefers strong water pressure from a shower head but I do not. I thought it was perfect. They will need to replace pedestal sink; there are cracks in the sink basin. Toilet had a powerful flush. I do wish there was a heater/vent it there, but keep in mind these cottages are from the 1920s or 30s. They're constructed/built from something like stucco & plaster. You can't just renovate buildings like these. You may cause damage to the structure. Light switches & outlets are very limited & in odd places, all due to the time these were built. I do not mind this & actually expect this, but others may. They did add wall mounted air conditioner/heater to the living room & bedroom. I definitely appreciated that since we are experiencing a winter that is much more wet & cold than usual. Some areas are a little drafty, all attributed to the original windows/doors, which again we do not mind. We enjoy & seek older buildings that have minimal updates to retain their original features/authenticity. Dining area & kitchen are small, but big enough for us. Since it was raining we didn't get to enjoy the private patio, maybe next time. All in all we got the experience we wanted. The amount of original character still here is worth the stay.

The Red cottage was the perfect way to end our honeymoon! Stepping into the front gate was like a fairy tale; I had no idea this place existed so close to our home. This cottage is conveniently located near great beaches and restaurants in Laguna. The rooms are extremely clean! We enjoyed a warm night by the fireplace . The bed and pillows were so comfortable; I got such a good night of sleep. We had everything we needed in the morning to cook and eat breakfast. Such a cute and quiet place for my husband and I. This place beats a hotel room in every aspect! The manager was very prompt, courteous and gave us many recommendations of where to go in the area. He made the visit personal and so welcoming. Definitely would love to stay here again and recommend this place to anyone who love to see this beautiful place.

We stayed in the Yellow Cottage and it was amazing. If you want to stay someplace where it feels like someone's home from the 1930's and be cozy and quiet, than this is your place. Loved the serenity and gardens and the communal outdoor space surrounded by beautiful plants and trees. The center of town and Main Beach are all walkable. It's a beautiful place to stay. If you want valet parking, a bar downstairs and a high rise view, this is not the place for you. But it was perfect for us.

This location was perfect for my husband and I. I wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Laguna Beach but not too far. The studio we stayed in was very clean and charming. There was water in the fridge when we arrived which was perfect for us! I also appreciate the paper shades because I have black out curtains at home. The assigned parking was great since Laguna Beach High School and a church are at the entrance of Manzanita. I didn't walk around but it was very quiet and serene. The laundry room is across the studio but we heard no noise from there whatsoever. I booked this place through Airbnb but I also saw that if you're a returning guest, there is a Yelp discount.

Had a great stay here this weekend in the green house! It was a lovely, cozy, quiet, quaint home for the weekend. Everything we needed was available to us, as well as it being a convenient, quick walk to the beach. Such beautiful scenery as well. Would definitely stay again!

Manzanita Cottages exceeded my expectations! From the steps down into the quad to the adorable cottage itself! We LOVED it!

We stayed in the studio with our one year old son.it was beautiful,clean and spacious! The grounds are breath taking and well kept. The wifi worked great! Neil our gracious host was a phone call or text away. With any questions we may have had. It was walking distance to the main beach and lovly shops and restaurants! We definitely will be staying again!

Our first visit here to the manzanita cottages and we are absolutely in love with these cute quite cottages. Who knew this little gem was hidden in the hillside of laguna! We are already planning our next visit! Highly recommend!!!! Host Neil was very accommodating! Thank you!

We had an amazing stay a couple of weeks ago at the Manzanita cottages. Everything was very cozy, comfortable and simply lovely! Truly a place to unwind and relax from the stresses of life...Our host, Neil, went above and beyond to help make our stay comfortable and pleasant. He's an excellent communicator and takes care of his guests very well! NJ

My wife and I love the Cottages. We have stayed here 3 times over the last 2 years and each time has been better than the last. Recently, they put in a new AC/heat unit. We used the AC when we stayed in October and had unexpectedly warm weather and the heat when we stayed in December - both worked well and are a significant improvement over the old system. A few observations: - we have stayed in Red and Green and they're basically the same - the bed is king size and very comfortable - the bathroom is small but clean and has great water pressure - the premises are impeccably maintained; there's a great courtyard and a shared lawn with a grill and chairs - the unit is big enough to sleep 4 comfortably, but the whole point is for a romantic getaway - the gas fireplace works great and only adds to the charm - there's wifi that works great with fast internet; there's also cable with a few channels, but I'd recommend checking out the town instead of watching TV The cottages are not a hotel (for example, there is no daily housekeeping but they do a good job of cleaning in between guests) but this is exactly why we love it - it's charming, quaint and a hidden gem in Laguna Beach

I am very disappointed with this booking! I booked this cottage in February. Thru VRBO it says if you have questions ask host directly. From 10 days out of the reservation date I received no answers to my questions. The Thursday before my arrival (2 days) I spoke with someone saying they would give me the info I needed the day of. Well the afternoon before my arrival my reservation was CANCELED ! So the night before my flight I had to search for a room in Laguna Beach! Laguna Beach is very popular at this time because of the Pageant of the Masters Art Show! Do you know how difficult availability is the night before in a popular town?! & the COST! How dare you tell me to book directly thru your website. You confirmed my booking 4 months ago! Do not blame VRBO. You should be watching and verifying your bookings withVRBO. I will never go to your website. Shame on you for giving VRBO a bad name. If you don't want the booking then don't list your cottage!!!

Stayed here recently with my boyfriend and we were so pleased. The grounds are breathtaking even in the "winter" and cottages perfectly appointed for cooking and just relaxing! Neil was a great host and extremely responsive whenever we had any concerns or questions. We will definitely be back!

I was really missing Eilers Inn which used to be the nicest B&B in Laguna Beach. Now that Eilers Inn is gone, I wanted to find something with similar charm. Manzanita cottages did not disappoint. I will definitely be back.

The manzanita cottages are a real charm. The property has a zen like feeling and is much better than a hotel. The sleeping arrangements are awesome! The huge king bed is super comfortable! The electronic locks make getting in and out of the cottage a real breeze. The air conditioner in the unit was much appreciated during my hot weekend. Wifi was blazing fast which is a huge plus for me. Highly recommended!

We loved our stay so much! It's the perfect little cottage for two people to stay for a wonderful weekend get away. It's walking distance to town, very clean and has the cutest outdoor private patio where we enjoyed our morning coffee. I highly recommend it!

We spent three nights here in May and had a wonderful time. The Green Cottage was perfect for the two of us. We enjoyed relaxing on our patio and walking into town. It was the perfect location, convenient for everything we were looking to do. The beach chairs could use some updating, but other than that, would highly recommend,

BEWARE!!!!! While this "charming"little group of cottages, look cute, the Red Cottage, where I spent last weekend, was a Hell Hole! The cottages lack air conditioning and feel like an OVEN turned on HIGH, upon entering them, after a long day spent in Laguna. Sleeping was VERY difficult, & after turning on ALL 3 fans, that I found in the closet, I STILL could not get comfortable! The promise of Free WiFi was a joke too, as I could rarely send or receive ANY emails. They also advertise Netflix, & several other TV options. They just don't mention, that you can't get a TV signal, in this hole of a location! I was told by the manager, Diane, to enter & leave through the back door. You wonder why??? Well, after spending 2 nights there, I discovered the front (red) door, didn't LOCK!!!! The lock was broken, & just turned round & round. A very cheap, old & small slide bolt, was the "safety" I was given, according to Diane, the manager. This is ridiculous & UNSAFE! Her excuse, just given to me, was that "they wanted the cottages to be left in their original condition", & not change the doors. One doesn't NEED to replace the doors, just the broken locks. How much would some new locks cost, really!????!!!!! Please, do yourself a favor, & look elsewhere! Diane was NOT HELPFUL, & in fact blamed me for the problems.....along with COX Cable, the old door, ...... 3 nights, over $1000..... NEVER again! I was staying alone, & I did not feel safe, even though Diane....said, I had nothing to fear!!! She was argumentative and hostile..... No respect was given to a paying guest.
