Yelp
Austere and modern, with jewel box rooms with trompe l'oeil decore, this hotel seems amazing, with it's orangerie and infinity pools under the arches of a Roman aqueduct. It is clean, polished with marble, wood and glass everywhere. 16 of us descended on this place so I have a collective of experience to share.
The rooms: Small and Dark, one women likened it to a prison cell...I lean more to a convent room in the monastery with gray walls and a little window....I was ecstatic to find a cute glass enclosed bathtub in my room and did use it the first night. Afterwards there was a sewer smell that was not pleasant, and when I heard another friend had found worms in her bath tub, I decided not to have a another soak. Our rooms were both "garden level" and below the ground a half a level. Friends staying on the second floor did not share our complaints of darkness, worms, or sewer smells. The sheets were rough, my room temperature was difficult to control, and it was too dark to do anything in the room after dark except watch tv or work on your computer.
Dining: The restaurant does not open until 7:30 pm, but there is a hidden bar inside on the second level, where we enjoyed an early dinner of hamburgers and cocktails- very nice!
The breakfast buffet was excellent and nothing left to desire....pastries (the pain au chocolate is superb), a full British breakfast, bread bar, fruit bar and pastry bar- plus TONS of coffee.. Perfect!!
If the worms and sewer issues had not cropped up, this would have been a 4. If the rooms were better lit, had softer sheets, and a good temperature, this would be a 5 star stay. The decor and optical illusions of the design are unusual and cool... Best advice: Complain until you get a room you like- don't settle for a room on the first floor.
