We recently visited Maracas in Palm Springs as a group of seven (two parties, two separate checks -- one with three people and one with four). When we arrived, our waiter, Jose, greeted us. We mentioned that we were waiting a few minutes for one more person but went ahead and ordered children's food and drinks.
When one of the adults left briefly to move the car, the waiter never returned. The children's food arrived, but 15 minutes later, when the man came back, I told the waiter we had been waiting to order drinks. He responded, "Oh, I was waiting for the man." I explained that I had been ready to order the whole time. He finally took our drink and food order -- a pitcher of margaritas, two candy shots, a beer for my husband, plus meals for four adults.
The drinks came fairly quickly, and our food followed, except for the fajitas, which took about 15 more minutes with no acknowledgment or update from the staff. The two shots, however, took over 30 minutes and only arrived after I reminded our waiter again.
Throughout our meal, we noticed our waiter was very attentive to other tables -- all of which happened to have white patrons -- while our table, surrounded by families with children, was often ignored. It was hard not to feel a sense of discrimination in how we were treated.
When the check arrived, we noticed an automatic gratuity had already been added to our bill, likely because we were a party of six. That explained a lot -- the lack of attention and care we received.
Overall, this experience was disappointing. The food itself was decent, but the service and lack of respect made it clear we won't be returning.
