New Grand Canyon East Rim Lodge Partners with Navajo Guides - AFAR

"I stayed on 168 acres half a mile from the Colorado River at Marble Canyon Lodge, which reopened in March 2025 after two years of renovations as Terra Vi’s debut project. The property has 53 motel-style rooms and eight 1,500-square-foot ranch cottages—my cottage featured natural wood and leather finishes, artwork of desert wildlife, a patio with Adirondack chairs and a campfire, and sweeping views of the Vermillion Cliffs—and rooms lean into a contemporary Southwestern aesthetic with terra-cotta orange tones and wood floors. Every facet felt reimagined, from the desert-chic Trading Post to new dining outlets, and what set the place apart for me was its deep, tangible connection to the Navajo community: local employment across roles, a revenue-share program for Indigenous causes, nightly Salamander Fire Circle storytelling, and exclusive curated Navajo-led adventures that take guests to off-the-beaten-path places like the East Rim and Secret Canyon." - Matt Kirouac

DO NOT READ OLD REVIEWS! This lodge has been completely renovated and is precious! Best kept secret! The morning and sunset views are stunning! Just a short drive to Page, but there is a lot to do and explore in Marble Canyon/Lees Ferry. They are XL dog friendly and there is so much well-lit space to walk around. The restaurant on site is excellent- the Navajo Taco Salad and Blue Corn Cookies are a must! Our waitress, Juanda, was so exceptional that we ate there every night of our trip! We loved the outdoor fire pits every night under the stars. If you are looking for peace and solitude, with every modern convenience you could need, this is your place! We will definitely be back!

This place is amazingly nice! Very recently remodeled. Very comfortable and roomy and nicely decorated. Our unit had a living space, dining table for 6, refrigerator and dishwasher. Main bedroom with queen and sink and toilet, a room with two twins, and a bathroom with a roomy shower. The staff were great. The Lonely Jack Rabbit restaurant has great meals and the outside bar and fire and big screen TV were really nice.

Little piece of heaven. Most stunning location if you love the desert and expansive views. At the hills of Marble Canyon, this is hands down our favorite motel-resort. Cottages are gorgeously furnished, cozy, sleek desert themed design, and equipped with all one needs (including private fire pit). The restaurant has the best coffees and foods, and staff (especially Wanda) are so kind and genuine. A truly magical place all around (note that the less than great reviews preceded the current renovation which is perfection, nothing less). Oh, and for bird lovers: condors can be observed under the Navajo (car) Bridge, a 2 minute walk from the motel.

This is a recently renovated hotel whose major attraction is proximity to Marble Canyon, Lees Ferry, and the Vermillion Cliffs. If these are your destination, this location saves you 40 minutes each way from alternative housing. It's entirely adequate for a 1-2 night stay. It includes a small restaurant open 11-7 PM, but coffee/pastries are available beginning 7 AM. Rooms are not large, but are clean and modern. Very pleasant.

Google
If your looking for a quiet place with scenic views in the winter months, it’s very peaceful. We stayed in the suite which includes a one car covered parking spot. If you plan on going to Page for dining or tours it’s a long drive. No groceries either so you will need to bring with you. There is a gas station on property. Pros: Rooms are very nice, appear to be remodeled or built recently. Heat worked well, lighting is well designed. Plenty of hot water. Scenic views in the area and the Colorado river access is a few miles drive. Nice outdoor sitting area with fire pit so you can enjoy the stars if it’s not overcast. Cons/Suggestions: Floor wasn’t as clean as it should be. No shelf or hooks in the shower. No place to set your shampoo or body wash. Entrance door doesn’t have anything to hold it open so it’s a battle to bring things in and out without having to fob in each time. Bedroom light/fan remote controls are on the wrong side of the light switch so you have to reach around to find the light switch. I would just move them to the other side. If you want groceries or dining options Page is a long drive.

Google
I loved my stay here! The restaurant food was SO GOOD. I also grabbed a chai tea latte before hitting the road which was great too. The room was very nice and all of the people working there were so kind! There’s also a fire pit, some outdoor games, a trading post, and a gas station. Everything you need is in one little spot with gorgeous views. It’s about a 30-35 minute drive from horseshoe bend and 2 hours from one of the entrances to the Grand Canyon.

Google
Wonderful experience. Beautiful rooms; superb staff and food. My interactions with Kiersten were most enjoyable. I managed the Gap Training Post forty years ago and worked at North Rim around that time so I spent much time in the area. Your property is a remarkable improvement from when I used to stay there. Hats off to your present endeavors. Thank you all for such a pleasant stay! Jon Haney

Google
I stayed here last week for a landscape photography trip. It's located perfectly to be within an hour or less of some of the most epic scenary in the entire world and makes for a great home base. Room was basic, clean and standardly appointed. Not a luxury stay if that's what you are looking for, but perfect for my needs. The restaurant on site was a bonus for meals, and Page, Az. is a reasonable drive away if you need additional services or options. I would 100% stay here again.

Yelp
If you are looking for a new motel, with all the modern amenities, this probably isn't the place for you. If you have children who go into withdraws when they are not somehow connected to the internet, this probably isnt the place for you. This place is awesome!! It is literally in the middle of nowhere. Absolutely breathtaking scenery both at the motel, and the drive to and from it. The rooms are quiet, and they are clean and well maintained. We stayed at several places on this trip, and while everywhere we stayed had a HDTV, this was the only one who actually had it connected to a device that produced HD signal, with a DirecTV box that had hundreds of channels. The staff were polite and attentive, but somewhat like the DMV, they were a little dry. Nothing wrong with that, as they are just people. I am a humble guy and I don't expect to have my posterior kissed everywhere I go. We drove down to the river which is about a ten minute drive through the most beautiful desert scenery ever! We also enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant, read restaurant review if interested. If you are into the classic, out of the way places like I am, this is a great experience.

Yelp
Clean, but very old and run down. Had a Water main break due to renovations and there was no communication. Came back to take shower and had no water. Water heater breaker was tripped and so we had no hot water once water came back on. We only had 5 towels for a booking of 6 people. A/C took a while to cool, good at night when temp dropped outside. AC Unit not enough for apartment during heat of the day, got up to 78 in the apartment. Food at lodge was average and pricey.

Yelp
This place used to be awesome - apparently the original building burned in 2013. I wanted so much to love this place. It's been a staple "last stop" before heading out on a river journey. Unfortunately, reality and nostalgia did not match up. The interior was spotlessly clean, so that was good. Service was average. Definitely heard staff talking about wanting to go home, and I don't blame them. The food was just a tiny bit better than a hospital cafeteria. I opted for the chicken fried steak with hatch Chile sauce (southwestern chicken fried steak) and my husband got the roast beef dinner. The chicken fried steak was bland, the sauce was touted as spicy - maybe spicy if you live in BF nowhere Iowa but otherwise it was flavorless. Overcooked baked potato and limp, canned veggies. Same with the roast beef - just disappointing. I wonder if the burgers are still good, and I'm willing to come back and try again. You pay after you go through the gift shop. Not the Marble Canyon I remembered, sadly, but people were friendly, and I respect that. The food needs work.

Yelp
This place is in the middle of nowhere, literally no where, but it is beautiful and very convenient, I would have given them 5 stars but as the other reviews say, new towels and bedding need to be updated however that didn't bother us one bit. We were only passing through and supposed to stay for the night, I like my space so I got the two bedroom apartment and 1 1/2 baths it was tree of us and our little babies spoiled super clean dogs lol. We were so comfortable and love the place, the prices where like wow ! I though they were kidding so cheap.. we like to stay in good places but being that we were in the middle of nowhere we gave this place a try. We were ok with it to a point that we stayed an extra night. A year later and we definitely came back to this place, as I said before this is not your four seasons hotel but it is an amazing place to feel and get connected with nature. My friends, doggies and I sure enjoyed everything of it

Yelp
I've stayed here many times ,when fishing at lees ferry , Nothing fancy just a solid room with everything you need for a restful night sleep, have use the apartments and the hotel rooms both are good quality clean and for the price you can't beat it plan on staying there many more times, this is not a luxury hotel, it's a country Lodge in

Yelp
The hotel was simple, but clean. The cost was affordable, under $80, including tax. The room was hot when we arrived, and the in room ac unit was loud, but cooled the room pretty quickly. The bed was HARD, and that was a bummer after a long day. The surrounding area was beautiful, and we would stay here again when passing through.

Yelp
Worst food and service..... Unbelievable to think that they are in business. I do not recommend this garbage to nobody. Unprofessional all the way.

Yelp
BEWARE: Housekeeping will knock on your door *before* 8 o'clock and wake you up to see if you are gone yet. :-o When I tried to talk with them they blamed me for not putting a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. No common sense, apology, or courtesy about it. (We were exhausted from a long trip and needed some extra rest to catch up. Sigh.) PUT OUT THE DO NOT DISTURB SIGN when you arrive unless you want a random wake-up knock. TIME ZONE: Located on the very edge of two very confusing, nonstandard time zones. One minute your phone is showing 9am am poor cell connection, the next it says 10am and LTE cell. Weird. NOTE: They close everything at 9 pm *sharp,* including the check-in desk. Arrive on time or else. MISSING: No breakfast included. No Wi-Fi. Cellular data is unreliable at this location (ATT) even when it said LTE 4 bars, see comment above. ALSO: Call ahead for a reservation and *maybe* they will turn the AC on in advance? We got our room spur of the moment and AC was not on before we arrived, so our room was HOT for 2-3 hours as it slowly cooled down. GOOD: The front desk was courteous. (But they were frustrated with their own housekeeping crew--as if they were powerless to ask housekeeping to treat their guests better.) GREAT: The cafe stayed open so we could order hot food even though we checked in one minute before closing. Very thoughtful!! Room was clean and reasonable, felt safe sleeping there. OVERALL: If you need to rest and can arrive before 9 pm, stop here and you'll be OK. Otherwise, drive on.

Yelp
Can't expect much out in the middle of Gods country, but I was pleasantly surprised. Beds were a little old, but flooring was wood & clean as opposed to icky carpet that's seen way to much. The food was amazing & even had a beer selection!

Yelp
Stayed here one evening, it is a beautiful location, and they provide a chair outside the room to sit and enjoy the view during the day and the stars at night. The rooms are clean but spartan, consistent with the environment. There is a large gift shop, arts store and restaurant on site and laundromat, post office, gas station and convenience store in walking distance. Also very close to the Bridge over the Colorado River, an interesting place complete with Indian gift booths. Free Coffee is provided in the office, bring your own tea bags, though. The people who work there and when we were there, the people who stayed there are very nice and friendly. They are happy to help you if you leave any stuff behind... I recommend the place.

Yelp
Request a room in the back row of this lodge and the view will not disappoint. We spent most of our time on the patio watching the sunset and rise. The rooms are small but we weren't there to watch TV. This lodge is close to Lee's Ferry and hours of outdoor adventures. The bed was squeaky but comfortable as it made a great deal of noise with every toss and turn.

Yelp
We stayed here one night. The rooms are nothing special-they are in need of a major upgrade. The staff were very friendly and the surrounding views were spectacular. We would stay here again just for the views but if you are staying here for a few days or looking for a nice place, I would go elsewhere. Quick walk to Navajo Bridge.

Yelp
Be aware that when this place states that the restaurant closes at 9:00 PM, what they really mean is that the entire place closes at 9:00 PM. Therefore if you're traveling a long distance and running behind on schedule or just planning to arrive late you will not be able to check in or have a room. We learned this after arriving after 9:00 on a particularly intense day of hiking and travel, with heavy traffic. We then had to spend an hour and a half finding (in an extremely low reception area), reserving and checking into our new hotel. It would be nice if this place would make it clear when you booked that they are not open in any capacity after a certain time, as opposed to presenting it like the restaurant is closed after 9.

Yelp
We stayed on our return from the north rim. We were in one of the apartments that slept 6. 3 in each room. It was clean. I think that new towels and linens would make a big difference. They were a bit worn. The restaurant had large portions and the food was very fresh. There are not many options in this area. I traveled with my sister who is high maintenance and she was okay.

Jim A.

Yelp
Stopped at the Lodge restaurant when driving toward Monument Valley. We held hotel reservations in Kayenta, AZ so did not look at any rooms here. The restaurant and gift shop were very clean and the restaurant service was perfect. Our server was a Navajo lady who we jokingly asked for the recipe for the Navajo Fry bread which outshines Naan bread by far. She wouldn't let us have it but she handled the awkward moment perfectly. I'm a fan. We will be back for more.... I'd suggest trying the restaurant anytime you're in the area.

Yelp
My girlfriend wanted to bungee jump off of the Navajo Bridge right near the Marble Canyon Lodge. It's literally out in the middle of nowhere. The stay in the motel room was fine; however, their restaurant is terrible. It took us about an hour to be served, and my food was so disgusting that words cannot describe. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and the cheese was like a piece of rubber. How can anybody screw up a grilled cheese sandwich? Apparently, the people in the kitchen working here. The BLT sandwich my girlfriend had was fair.

Yelp
Please DO NOT stay here. My reservation number is 7543XXX, I booked an apartment for Friday June 2nd night. And it was a terrible experience. I called them in the afternoon of day of arrival and told them we will be arriving around 10 p.m. They said it is fine and we will have instructions to find the keys at the main entrance. When we came there, the office was totally closed, (management and staff leave by 8 p.m.) and there was no one there. AND WE DID NOT FIND OUR KEYS in the place they said they gonna keep. So, this is how it works if you arrive late. On the main entrance of the reception door they will a big note saying - 'Please go to the right side to a wooden box below the glass window and you will find your keys in an envelope with your name, we will be here at 6 a.m. please come and fill the registration form at that time'. There was no envelope or keys with our names. AND THERE IS NO NUMBER TO CALL ANYONE (OR) ANYONE AROUND 10 MILES ON EACH SIDE. So you are on your own in the middle of night. Imagine coming with your family & KIDS and being in this situation, it is awful and dangerous. Basically, after 8 p.m. anybody who is passing by that road can stop by at the reception, look at the note saying collect keys in the box on the right side and take whichever key they like. Also, as they clearly mentioned that they will be not be there until 6 a.m. the next day, anybody can take YOUR keys after 8 p.m. and leave before 6 a.m. and no one will know, because when you arrive late, you don't have any number to call or find which room/ apartment you are in. And you cannot go to all the guest room and knock. Our envelope was not the box and we were shocked and helpless. Luckily a town called 'page' is an hour's drive and we went there where there are proper hotels (Holiday inn, Hamptons etc.) and available rooms, where we checked in. Imagine if we couldn't find that town (No cell phone signal here, but luckily our car GPS showed that option). It would be a dangerous situation in the middle of nowhere. The next day morning at 8 a.m. I called the reception. They said someone took our keys and stayed in our apartment. The management is so rude, they didn't even call me when they found it. I had to call them to find this information. And the management, whoever lifted the call didn't even had the courtesy to apologize properly. Great! We had to rush to see South rim and didn't go back there to ask for an explanation. But it's awful, we were put in that situation and no one even cared to apologize us - Great job guys, keep it up! People don't take risk. On the reception note they also mentioned ' do not to take other guests keys' so I am sure this happened many times before. You are not safe here. Go to Page or other proper towns with proper hotels, and don't take chances to feel something different by staying near a canyon.

Yelp
Ok, there's not much for competition around here so if you happen to be in the neighborhood (?), which happens to be in the middle of nowhere, this place is a decent place to have dinner and you won't leave feeling a victim of highway robbery. Oh, their portions are huge and the price is reasonable.
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Marble Canyon Lodge has everything you could ask for from a bar and grill in the middle of nowhere. Conveniently located near Lee's Ferry, the bar offers a front porch with rocking chairs, a view that stretches on for days, a wonderful white fluffy dog by the name of Tookalook, and a HUGE beer selection. It's amazing to find microbrews and Belgian beers in the middle of nowhere.
google avatar

Yelp Y.

Yelp
Yes, Marble Canyon Lodge does have a restaurant. However, they don't tell you that the restaurant will be closed during your stay. They just tell you that they have a restaurant. This place is in a great location and is also a great disappointment. We rented one of their apartments. To say that it was SPARTAN is an understatement. THe living room WAS NOT FURNISHED to seat four people. It was very uncomfortable. In the morning, we found one bowl and two mugs. Again, not equipped for four people. Just not a comfortable place to stay.

Louis L.

Yelp
This place has the potential to be a nice stop. For now I would drive by until they update the rooms to match the newly built restaurant and gift shop which are very nice. We stayed in an "apartment" that was old with a cracked sink countertop in the bathroom, old carpeting and kitchen, terrible mattresses and linens and towels that seemed to be 20 years old. The worst of it was bugs with a large roach spotted in the kitchen. The response by the lady at checkout to the report of a roach and other insects was complete indifference.

Mark S.

Yelp
We booked an apartment for a one night stay for our family. We arrived late and they key was left out for us as the office was closed. The lodge has beautiful views, but it truly needs some cleaning and updating. We found furniture, carpet, and linens to be very worn, and the unit had not been sufficiently cleaned. There were coffee grounds in the coffee maker from a previous guest. We were staying there as a stopover on our way to the Grand Canyon, and we were glad to only be staying one night. I gave it two stars instead of one because of the views and the stores on site which offer snacks, fuel, supplies, laundry, etc. at reasonable prices.
