I stayed at the Marco Polo hotel for 3 weeks as I was working as the Director of Photography of a documentary film in the Philippines. The entire crew and cast poured money into this hotel in those three weeks, from transportation, food, lodging, room service, cleaning services etc. During my stay, half way into the third week, housecleaning came into my room and was cleaning up around my work desk and broke my brand new $3,500 US maxed out macbook! They tried to close the screen while I had SD cards stacked on the keyboard and shattered my screen and did damage to the upper right hand side of the keyboard, and damaged one of the SD cards almost causing us to loose 5 days worth of footage. When I confronted the hotel they "Opened and investigation" and by the next morning said they would not take blame for the macbook because housecleaning "said they didn't do it". So now after our productions has dumped tens of thousands of dollars into this hotel, they refuse to pay for the repair or replacement of my Macbook... Are you kidding me! When you have a professional team from Los Angeles come to make a film and include you in their film to help boost marketing, and dump money into them, you don't just dismiss a huge mistake on their behalf based off of the word of a housecleaning member who would obviously would not want to loose their job over something like this. I wasn't even asking for the macbook to be replaced! Just the repair invoice from Apple for the damage to be paid by Marco Polo. I am truly stunned they would treat me and my team in this manner after all we have done and spent at this hotel. To repair my macbook would be a small percentile compared to what we dumped into this hotel. I am utterly appalled by the poor decision and customer service of this hotel... I would not advise taking any expensive items into the hotel and leaving them out where housecleaning can damage them.
Cons:
Aside from them breaking my laptop, there are leaks from the roof in the lobbies, restaurants, rooms, gym and hallways. Even a leak from our light in the bathroom which can start an electrical fire. There is no microwave for an option to heat up food.
Pros:
They have security on site that always search you and the cars when you come in and out of the hotel. They have a medical team on staff 24/7. As well as probably the nicest hotel your going to find in Davao at this time.
I would have better things to say about his hotel, but the poor decision they have made in handling this issue has left a bad taste in my mouth and bill that I will be stuck with from Apple that is clearly their mistake for my brand new 25 day old macbook.
