The Best Things to Do in Auroville, India's Self-Sustaining Community | Condé Nast Traveler

"Founded in 2008 by Marc Tormo Altimira and rooted in a slow, sustainable seed-to-cup ethos with beans sourced from South Indian farms, this café has grown into an education hub; the Coffee Learning Community upstairs offers seven courses, from a two-hour beginner cupping session on flavor profiling and cupping sheets to a five-day roasting masterclass on turning green beans into aromatic flavors, plus fermentation workshops spanning fizzy kombucha to tangy kimchi." - Sneha Thomas

The best sustainable cafés in Asia - SilverKris

"Opened by Valencia native Marc Tormo after he relocated to Auroville, this café focuses on South Indian estate beans and is known for the Malabar 100% Arabica Cherry AA, best enjoyed as a long brew without milk. A bright red bamboo fence and terrace seating give the spot a bold, open feel. The dark organic cacao brownie — made with the owner’s own Indian organic cacao — is a recommended treat. The business emphasizes sustainability through organic, fair-trade beans packed in screen-printed recycled paper and décor largely fashioned from recycled materials." - Joyce Huang

This is an outstanding place for coffee! There is nowhere to compare with it in Pondicherry. The selection of coffees and the knowledge of the staff is world class. I visited twice and the service and coffee were consistently excellent. I only had an almond croissant with my coffee but both were as good as anywhere I have had in Europe! I also bought some chocolate there which was first class too. I don’t normally write reviews but I was moved to do this because I googled where to get good coffee and a couple of other places had higher scores so I checked them out and they were as nothing compared to Marc’s. I bought four bags of beans to take home with me! It’s really worth a visit!!

one of the best croissants i've had. breads is clearly their X factor. intentionally curated food place, with beautiful details. ambience is cosy, warm, and bright. best time to go is for breakfast/brunch. bumped into Agnez (founder & chef) in the place, and it was clear how much she loves her craft. and it shows in the food that the cafe provides. FOOD I HAD- had a quiche, two cutu croissants (almond & pistachio). all three slapped! they even added some lovely salad with flowers on the side, which shows how every small thing is thought through. not the best omlette, but definitely not complaining.

We had breakfast here twice. The food was delicious although some of the dishes’ portion sizes were too small. The dosa here was delicious, especially the tomato chutney. The almond croissant is 🤌. I had an espresso and cafe latte and both were great. The sadhu sandwich was unfortunately not that filling although still delicious. The beetroot kvass is a must try. The ambience is what you’re paying the premium for. We were able to get a table for two without too much of a wait. The service here is pretty good. This place is highly recommended.

I had a great experience! The Masala Dosa and Pesto & Dairy Cheese Dosa were delicious, and the Chicken Sandwiches were a tasty treat. The Classic Big Ben (masala chai) and Iced Cold Coffee (Vanilla) were highlights perfect flavors! Service was quick, and the ambiance was cozy. The only downside was the pineapple juice not being available. Overall, highly recommend for a satisfying meal. Total bill was ₹1775 for 5 items, great value!

Felt like a European cafe. Vibe was really good. Amazing selection of bakery items, coffees and other brunch meals. We liked it so much we visited a 2nd time.

To have a good coffee experience, visit marcs. This is to be added in you pondicherry bucket list for sure. The Manual Brew V60 pour over was just brilliant. Very friendly and happy to help staff, on point food, Marc's is a total package for sure.

During a recent visit to Marc's Café with my cousins, we tried a variety of items from their menu, including an Almond Croissant, Italian Omelette, Big Ben Evolution, Hot Chocolate, Mixed Fruit Juice, Egg Cream, Ciabatta, and Grilled Sandwiches with Coffee. The coffee and hot chocolate were exceptional, while the rest of the food was above average in terms of taste. Additionally, I recommend trying their Cappuccino Salad from The Milk Roasters. Overall, everything was satisfactory, though I would say it's not particularly great value for money. Nevertheless, Marc's Café is worth visiting if you're planning a trip to Auroville.

Great ambiance, making it a pleasant place to relax. They also boast a good variety of Western dishes on their menu, which is a plus for those craving international flavors. However, it's important to note that Marc's Café is highly priced and can be quite expensive, especially when compared to other options in Auroville. During my visit, I tried their coffee, dosas, egg and toast, and the brownie. The brownie, in particular, was exceptionally good and a definite highlight! One significant drawback is the lack of Wi-Fi, and mobile network connectivity inside the café is very poor. This can be inconvenient if you need to stay connected. Given the higher prices and connectivity issues, you might find better options around Auroville that offer similar quality or better value. While the ambiance is nice and the brownie is a winner, you can likely skip Marc's Café if you're looking for a more well-rounded and affordable experience.
