Margaritaville Beach House Key West

"Note: This review is for the now-closed Barbary Beach House Key West. Why did this hotel catch your attention? This 184-room hotel right across from Smathers Beach, one of Key West's only and best beaches, just opened in June. It used to be a Sheraton, which you'd never guess thanks to its refreshed renaissance. The front entrance has been made grand with a sculpture-like, metal awning-style feature that you pull your car up under to check in. There's a street running between the hotel and the beach. What's the backstory? Barbary Beach House is owned by Diamondrock Hospitality, which owns another Key West property, Havana Cabana, as well as popular hotels in Colorado and elsewhere (for example, they own the L'Auberge de Sedona). Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? All rooms are suites with separate bedrooms and living areas with mini-fridges and microwaves and the decor aesthetic is salvage-chic, with worn wood and neutral tones. Definitely a place to hole up and relax in the comfort of plush pillow top beds and cool AC after a hot day exploring Key West town or playing on the beach. The rooms have a very cooling and refreshing feel, with neutral colors that calm and lots of natural light. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? It's fast and included in the daily resort fee of $48. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? Drifter's Cove Restaurant is the place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is a good spot for things like acai smoothies, Cuban sandwiches, tuna poke, shrimp ceviche, and surf and turf items like steaks and lobster quesadillas. They have indoor and outdoor dining with tables on a shaded balcony overlooking the resort pool. It's all very Key West, which is to say: tropical, bright, and inviting. Shipwreckers Bar is a round open-air bar by the pool where the blender is usually whirring and frozen concoctions spiked with rum, passionfruit, and mango are on the menu. And the service? The concierge is there to make all your "when-in-Key West" fantasies come true, whether that's a flight-seeing tour around the island or to the Dry Tortugas or a Hemingway-style fishing charter offshore. What type of travelers will you find here? They're wearing pink shorts with whale belts as much as board shorts—Hawaiian shirts and Lily Pulitzer floral dresses, too. They came for vacation and to party. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? The hotel is very much a part of the neighborhood and resort area surrounding Smathers Beach, which is one of the more local beaches on Key West. The hotel offers a free shuttle for guests to Duval Street and to the Downtown Seaport Harbor, and you can easily bike there, too. You're right near Key West High School and residential neighborhoods of the interior, a bit removed from the overtly touristy part of the island. Not everyone comes to Key West to spend time on the beach (the island is known for bars and boats more than beaches), but if you want some beach time during your vacation here, it's one of the best properties for easy access to the sand. Is there anything you'd change? The $48 daily resort fee is steep but it does get you some things in addition to Wi-Fi, including poolside popsicles, free lobby coffee, and kayak and paddelboard use on the beach (bikes are extra to rent). Any other hotel features worth noting? There's one pool with a waterfall feature, pretty landscaping and hammocks strung around the resort to add to the on-vacation vibe. Bottom line: Worth it? Why? Worth it for the great beach access and comfortable rooms and grounds." - Terry Ward

Our stay at the Margaritaville was amazing. From the day we got there, we flew from Pa and got there super early the front desk workers I didn’t catch any of their names but they were so friendly and very accommodating to our needs. This was our first time at Key West so I was a little skeptical but they over exceeded all of our expectations. I can’t say enough great things about the staff from the front desk to the restaurant housekeepers they went above and beyond. Now on to the shuttle drivers John was fantastic he made the shuttle ride so enjoyable and was very informative about all the things to try while visiting. LuAnn was also very nice she was able to give us additional history about the island. I am a review reader and that is how I determine if the place is worthy I hope this can be helpful for someone else. If you are looking for something to do plan a trip to margaritaville I can promise this you will not regret it. Also while mentioning the staff that stood out to us I have to give a shout out to Bubbly Bob he was the airport shuttle driver so nice. I couldn’t have asked for a better trip. We will definitely be going back we had so much fun and the whole staff was remarkable

This was my first trip to Key West. The room, pool, and on-site restaurant were all pleasant and well maintained. While I did have to walk around much of the building—or go up and down several floors—to reach my room, the room itself was spacious, clean, and nicely appointed. Having access to a six-foot-deep pool was also a nice feature. My primary concern was the overall cost structure. Very few amenities were included, and many aspects of the stay seemed designed to encourage additional spending. There was a significant incidental hold at check-in (approximately $100 per night), frequent prompts from staff to charge purchases to the room, and an additional $60 per night resort fee. The beach across the street also offered no included amenities—no chair vouchers or complimentary services. While I understand Key West is a tourist destination, the lack of included amenities made the experience less enjoyable. The location was another drawback. Although the shuttle service was convenient and the drivers were friendly and helpful with recommendations, the property is about a 10-minute drive from Duval Street, and the last shuttle run was earlier than ideal. I would have preferred a more centrally located property within walking distance of the main attractions. Overall, I feel neutral about the stay. I didn’t dislike it, but I also didn’t find it particularly memorable. Whether it was worth the cost is debatable, and at this time, I would likely explore other lodging options in the area before returning.

Overall great hotel. We had an ocean view room(Room# 356), even though it was across the street & across small parking area(see photos). Room sofa was a bit outdated, but still charming & chic. Loved the old-style fridge & microwave. Bathroom was large and modern. Hotel grounds landscaping is well-kept & tropical. The lighted tiki torches, stringed-lighting, and colored lighting around pool area made for a beautiful ambiance. On-site bar and restaurant has limited menu, but there are options for all 3 meals of the day. Also, free coffee stations throughout resort. Free cookies available for a specific time during the afternoon. We received free margaritas & a beach-bag filled with items, but this may have been due to the prepaid hotel pkg that we purchased through hotel website. There is free shuttle service to and from hotel to the airport, and if you rent a golf cart, you won't have to rent a vehicle unless you plan to venture north via the 7-mile bridge towards Islamorada. There is also a free shuttle for downtown tours. Duval Street & Bahama Village are the lively areas with shopping & restaurants. The Christmas displays are a treat also.

Great hotel with nice pool, hot tub and bar. Free parking and shuttle service to airport and down town. Friendly service Beidy at the bar was great and our shuttle driver Luann does a great job and good local recommendation's . Food and drink prices on the high side but most everything was good .they had coffee stations on the floors but the ice machine had a frozen bag of ice that you had to chip to get ice cubes. We enjoyed our ocean view room ,clean and comfortable with a fridge and microwave. I’m glad we were on the second floor, third would have been better , if were on floor one you would have zero view. We joined the perks club before we booked and got $50 resort credit and a voucher for store snacks. We really enjoyed our stay and will stay here again if we return to key west.

I did a lot of research planning this trip. As a single mom of a 10 and seven-year-old, I needed a vacation that was easy. This resort made my dream come true. The room with the pocket doors that could close off my bed from the sofa bed meant that I could enjoy my evening after the kids went to sleep. I loved being across the street from the beach and the kids loved the lagoon style pool. The shuttle service from the airport and into town was excellent. I found myself ordering DoorDash because the kids don’t care about sitting in restaurants and I got to try some really good food. Despite its proximity to the airport, this hotel was quiet even on New Year’s Eve.

I recently stayed at the Margaritaville Beach House Key West and had an amazing experience. The property is beautiful, and the rooms were fantastic. It was also a huge plus having such a scenic beach right across the street.|However, the highlight of the trip was the service. A special thanks to Yveline for providing amazing assistance during our stay. When you are trying to choose between multiple good properties in Key West, it is people like Yveline who truly make the difference.|I highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the area. This is definitely going to be my go-to stay for my future Key West visits!

Dear Management Team, I am writing to formally document a series of serious issues during our recent stay at the Margaritaville Beach House and Resort. The experience fell drastically below acceptable standards, particularly given the premium price we paid. We were charged approximately $700 per night and encountered cockroaches crawling around our room at night. This is completely unacceptable and indicates a severe lapse in cleanliness and pest control. At this price point, this should never occur. The staff was consistently unaccommodating. I prepaid for my room and two additional rooms 35 days in advance. When my son was required to return home one day early, I requested a refund for that night well within the designated cancellation window. The hotel refused to issue a refund despite clearly meeting the stated policy requirements. We also experienced an unacceptable error by your concierge. The concierge, Kevin, charged us $29 for our one-year-old grandson for an excursion. Upon arrival, the tour operator confirmed that children ages 0–4 are free. Kevin did not apologize for this mistake. While management later stated the charge would be refunded, that refund has still not been received. Additionally, we were extremely disappointed with the Christmas dinner served at the hotel. The fish was dry and poorly prepared. The quality was unacceptable for a holiday meal at a resort of this caliber. Upon check-in, my children were each charged $5,000 on their credit cards despite the fact that all charges had been prepaid 35 days in advance. This caused unnecessary stress and financial inconvenience. On top of this, a mandatory resort fee was charged, further increasing costs without delivering corresponding value. Resort amenities were also lacking. The ping pong balls were broken, making the game unusable, which reflects poor attention to basic guest experience and maintenance. This was a family Christmas vacation, and instead of being memorable for the right reasons, it was marked by repeated service failures, billing errors, and unacceptable conditions. I am requesting immediate resolution, including appropriate refunds and compensation for the issues outlined above. I expect a prompt response detailing how this matter will be resolved . Regards Pam

Great location and service. Airport and downtown shuttles were helpful. Nice pool and hot tub but they could use mare chairs as it got crowded. Had a second floor ocean view king suite, if you get ocean view make sure you get 2nd or 3rd floor as first floor no view. Over all food and drinks good but pricey which was expected being in key west. Hotel service was good, friendly shuttle drivers and bartenders.

Yelp
We tried to check in early (before lunch) but there were no rooms available, so we did all the check-in paperwork, then hit Duvall St. for some fun! We eventually made it back after sunset for a snack and nightcap. Bar area was packed, so we got a table. The staff here are so friendly! I mean ALL the staff. The front desk, servers, housekeeping, they were all so lovely! Our room was comfy. The shampoo, condition and shower gel smelled so good! Kind of spa-like but with a hint of the tropics. The beach was nice. I've never seen a beach where the water was completely flat. It reminded me of the Universal Studios backlot where they have Falls Lake where a lot of ocean/lake scenes for the big screen are filmed.

Yelp
This is not a "Beach Hotel" it is an airport motel . But You wouldn't know by reading those suspicious 5 star reviews. The closest this place comes to a beach resort is a small pool & a busy international airport which is right next door . The closest it comes to a hotel is a motel with a maze of attached outdoor rooms. The closest it comes to the beach by exiting out though a parking lot and walking across a busy highway then down a staircase. It's in a terrible location. they do have small shuttles which go to front street every hour but it fills up fast . This place is extremely noisy . The blasting outdoor music didn't stop until 11 and the loud pool football play went on until after midnight. All the rooms face the pool which is a rather small curving pool slightly larger than a kiddie pool and it contains a loud splashing waterfall. It fills up with guests in a similar way to an inner city public one.. The lounge chairs go back to right under the room balconies. By 8:00 unfortunately most seating near the pool and two rows back are saved by people and then remain empty for several hours. Why is that even allowed? I think the music stays loud to drown out the constant roar of overhead planes and the splashing noise of guests. Today was tree trimming and maintenance, gas smell everywhere. Add that to the high decibel noise level. The outdoor restaurant is pleasant and has an attached very nice large outdoor sports and pool bar with 3 TVs. The lobby is the only open space there is and that includes the exterior. It's nicely appointed and has a small indoor eating area. The changing menu is quite good. The rooms are very new and nicely designed and thankfully well Sound proofed . The staff is very good especially the front desk manager. This place may be great for the young set but not I think for mature people . We came for a fun and restive stay but there was no chance of that. We mostly stayed in our room going out for meals. I couldn't wait to leave. Mr

Yelp
Good stay. Ocean view room. Good breakfast Pablo was courteous and attentive. Saw two ants in the room; one wash cloth had hair on it Despite the two things above we recommend the resort

Yelp
Fabulous place to stay in Key West! Beautiful place; spotless; friendly and fun vibes. Free shuttles to and from town and free airport service. Staff was super friendly, welcoming and accommodating! Stayed in the 2 BR suite and it was amazing. Beach directly across the street steps away and pool is awesome. Will definitely return!!!

Yelp
First time here! Our check in experience was a bit of a mess. The agent seemed completely out of it. We never received a text (as suggested) when our room was ready. When we arrived back at the hotel around 4:45pm, to see if a room was available the response was....did you get a text? Well no but I'm sure you could help us, right? The room was super cute and clean. We had a two bedroom suite. Nice decor with all that Margaritaville charm. The pool area is nice but small for a mid-sized resort. It was hard to find a space to sit in the afternoon and the deck was filthy! Food, towels and yuck from the day everywhere. I wish people picked up after themselves. Our server Camille was a sweetheart! Super nice and fun. It's odd to me that so many people bring kids to Key West. Especially to a quaint resort like Margaritaville that doesn't offer kids stuff. Oh well.

Yelp
Buyer Beware! Before you press accept when you make this reservation be aware there is absolutely no cancellation policy.! I understand that there is a policy but how about a little bit of compassion when you have to cancel because your father died! Horrible absolutely horrible. I'm not asking that the cancellation policy be overridden but I'm asking that they just hold my reservation until a week or two when I have buried my father.! I even offered to pay the difference if the rate increased!

Yelp
This is one of the best vacations we have had. the Hotel is super nice along with the staff and the bartenders. Its located across from Smathers beach, has a free shuttle and a great location. They have excellent FREE coffee in the AM, Free bottled water and genuinely care for you. We loved it, and will be back.

Yelp
Batu, Hotel manager greeted us the first morning after we arrived and spent several minutes going over the resort qualities and history in KW. He talked to us every day we spent at the resort and the day we left he made a point to say good bye and have a safe trip. Top notch guy. I'm sure he inspires the rest of the resort staff. Jason (Food and Beverage Director?) - We spent a day at one of the pool Cabana's and Jason made sure it was setup for us and ready to use early in the morning. He went over all amenities offered at the resort. He also made a point to say hello every day and ask if we needed anything. Wayne (Front Desk) - Wayne greeted us upon our arrival and was very accommodating. He offered us cold fruit water and went over our resort perks. We are Margaritaville perk members. He was friendly and very accommodating. Levan and Kate - Tin Cup Chalice bartenders. These team mates made our stay unforgettable. The went above and beyond any service we have had at a resort or cruise ship. They really deserve the gold metal in our eyes. We can't wait to get back to see them. Agata (pool attendant) - Agata was a tireless worker around the pool area. She took care of the restrooms, which were always spotless, picked up dirty towels and provided new one for those just arriving. She was always on the move, cleaning, picking up after folks to make the pool area look clean an inviting. Every day we made a point to talk to her, she was a very sweet lady. Victor & Pablo (Tin Cup Chalice night bartenders) - Very attentive and courteous. They went over the specials and provide us with recommendations for food and drink. Destiny (Pool Bar bartender) - A very hard worker and always on the move. Working the pool area has to be a tough gig, especially in the heat we've had. She worked tirelessly making sure all the guests had food and beverage and enjoyed a clean pool area. Luann (Margaritaville shuttle driver) - She was very passionate about Key West and making sure she could provide as much high value information as she could in her short trips to town or the resort. She always had a smile on her face. Christina and Carmille (Tin Cup Chalice servers) - Serving breakfast with a smile is very important and these two made the start to our day a pleasant one. Excellent servers who were always smiling. Shea (Front Desk) - Shea greeted us with a smile and went over our folio thoroughly, just to make sure we had no questions. She offered to hold our luggage until we were ready to leave the resort. On a side note, I would like to add the food at the resort was 5 star. Far better than many resorts we've stayed at. Kudos to the chefs and kitchen help. Smathers beach is across the street and is a nice beach Typical Atlantic ocean beach, with some seaweed in the water, but nothing crazy. A nice sandbar a few hundred feet out or so. Umbrella's, chairs, and kayaks/paddle boards offered at a cost(not associated with the resort).

Yelp
Recently spent 4 days here and right from check in ALMOST everything was good. Bartender has a nice heavy pour which really helped the experience! Only downside was when we ate lunch close to noon (this is when they start lunch). It took over an hour to get food after ordering and we were told it was because of room service meals having to go out at the same time. Should have a process to help avoid this type of situation.

Yelp
I highly recommend any hotel but this one! I had anta crawling all over my toothbrush and bathroom items. The service was awful!

Yelp
Legit drinks at the bar. Great bar snacks. Fun pool! Friendly staff. Very close to the airport.

Yelp
I had a stay planned for 4/5-4/7 we arrived on 4/5 at 3:50. We went to go to the beach and the path was closed, we had to walk around. We went back to the pool, where there was food all over the pool area, rotten fruit smashed into the seats, garbage PILLED up around the trash cans. No service available poolside, the towell machine was broken. Went to get ice and it was solid rocks of ice, went to front desk, asked what was going on with the poolside service, she stated it was not open at 6 o'clock when stated on website. We stayed at margaritaville in Gatlinburg, it was 5 starts, very nice and had servers everywhere. We talked to the manager, she said that the person that cleans the pool area and trash was doing laundry that's why it was dirty...brought us more ice and it was a solid rock, I called the front desk to talk to the manager, they said you guys can check out tomorrow we don't have a problem with that, didn't offer any kind of help for our problems, handed me a card to call the manager the number was out of service, our door was broken, wouldn't lock, or shut, there was mosquito's eating us alive at the restaurant, moved inside and they still were so we went to shop inside hotel they said they were out of bug spray and we could go to the nearest store. There was mold on the ceiling of the inside of the restaurant, we got to go boxes the one they gave us was full of dirt. I am very saddened to have had this experience through this place. I would like to submit some kind of claim to get some of my money back for time and having to leave and change the place with 3 children, I have photos of the resort and they charged me a 600 deposit and a 900 charge so basically I paid 800 a night for the worst place, I also asked for corporate number they stated they didn't have the number. I would recommend staying at Glunz Ocean Beach Hotel & Resort on colony key beach, it was close to water and half the price! Beach was very clean and kept up! Stayed under name Bern, emailed corporate Saturday, no response yet. Save yourself money and do not come here. The old margaritaville was changed into another hotel.

Yelp
Great place. Across the street from Smathers beach. Great bar, nice, friendly, skilled bartenders. Good food in the restaurant. Pool looks great (though I didn't go in). The Resort Fee @ $60 per day is extreme.
google avatar

Keith T.

Yelp
Hands down, it was one of the best guest experiences ever. Diana Cruz (The In-House Reservations Coordinator) was accommodating, flexible, and hospitable. Margaritaville Beach House Key West's hospitality did not end with Diana but extended throughout her management team. I understand that coordinating a group-level reservation over a party of 10 is difficult and stressful. Yet, Diana and her team ensured that we received the utmost support and memorable experience.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this resort. The rooms were well appointed and even though we had spring breakers set off the fire alarm at 4 am we still had a marvelous time and they did comp us some drinks breakfast and a resort fee. The bar had great drinks and the cafe had great fish tacos and a very good breakfast.

Beth G.

Yelp
Not quite sure where the rave reviews are coming from. We had 3 nite reservation. Left after one nite food was bad and expensive. Location at end of airport runway -but this isn't on many reviews. Beach access between hotel and beach was road construction zone Very loud pool area music. Run down fitness center. Not sure what the resort fee offered. Few amenities here. I Guess the one positive was clean rooms- but our shower didn't drain well. All in all very disappointing

Yelp
We have loved every aspect of this so far! Free trolley to and from airport and other places around. Free fresh water that is fruit infused! Gorgeous rooms, beautiful appliances, friendly staff, perfect landscaping, amazing food and an insane pool! We have loved every part of our trip thus far! The staff is so kind and accommodating! Truly top notch!

Jennifer G.

Yelp
The stars are for the size of the room only. It's nice and spacious (king suite). Everything else is very disappointing, most notably the airport noise! How is no one mentioning that this hotel is 200 yards from the end of the runway and every plane takes off right above the hotel??! We kept having to pause our conversation at lunch to wait for the plane to pass. Speaking of lunch, it was awful at the cafe next to the pool. $125 for inedible flatbread, a curry bowl and fish sandwich with 2 beers and 1 margarita. Our room looks over the parking lot with the scooters for rent right under our room. It shakes every time someone starts one up. The fees are ridiculous and for what? Very few amenities here that justify the add-on cost. The pool is tiny with minimal chairs. Without getting up at dawn to reserve them you'll never get one. It's better to head to the beach across the construction zone. The free drink is sugar water and the shuttle is inconvenient so we didn't use it. Wish we stayed elsewhere.

Yelp
Omg Roger is the best!!! So kind, so willing to find a way to make your experience better. Best server in the restaurant ever! Would go back for his iced coffee alone! Please give him a promotion asap he has amazing customer service skills!

Yelp
We stayed for a week. The lobby is very nice and check in was fairly easy. Pros: very close to the airport, directly across from beach, good bartenders and food was pretty good. Room sizes are nice with comfy bed. Cons: 4 star prices for 2-3 star amenities/service Elevator was broken and never saw anyone working to repair it Mold on bathroom ceiling Shower knob stripped so could not get good temp. Too cold or scolding hot Had to call everyday to remind housekeeping to come by Pool is pretty small and very crowded I can't say yes or no to staying here again because hopefully some of the maintenance issues would be fixed but it's pricey for what you get.

Gabi M.

Yelp
Worst place in Key West. I don't mind staying off the busy strip, but when you only offer 1 small shuttle once on the hour and tell me as I walk on that you're full, that's unacceptable. On top of that, I entered my room with clumps of hair on the shower wall and bathroom floor. They then text me saying that my room couldn't be serviced the next morning because my do not disturb sign was posted- that it was not. I waited for a beverage, alone, at the hotel bar with 8 other guests for 20 minutes. After I was finally served my drink was made improperly and poorly. I will not recommend this hotel or stay here in KW again.

Yelp
Bugs. Lots of them. Called multiple times a day to have the room sprayed. Called multiple times a day to have the room refreshed. A manager was supposed to reach out to me and never did. Just don't. Would have been cute otherwise. Great food.

John R.

Yelp
I was there for a few days and everyone was nice but my experience was a bit disappointing. I made reservations with them directly because they boast that if you do they will give you 2 perks from a selection . I chose a room upgrade (if there were availabilities), my room was a resort view with a king size bed, and a $25 in hotel credit towards any purchases. I received an email confirming this. When I arrived at the front desk I asked the employee if I was getting a free room upgrade and told him my wife and I were celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary. He told me he would speak to the manager and a short while later came back and said we were in luck because there was an ocean view room on the 3rd floor. We were so excited, I gave the guy a $20 tip, and he told us to give him an hour to clean the room and come back so off we went to rent our scooter and get some lunch. As we were finishing up lunch on Duvall street I saw I had a missed call. It was from a manager telling me there was a mistake and that the room I was suppose to get was actually already reserved. As you can imagine I was very disappointed. When I finally got through to the manager she re-iterated what she said on the phone and said that she was sorry but they were going to do away with those free room upgrade perks because it caused a problem. She put us in a room facing the parking lot worse than the resort view room we reserved. As I was walking away an employee told me that after I had left a last minute couple walked in looking for an Oceanside room and would pay extra to get one. The same manager who said that the room I was getting was already reserved had cleared our free room upgrade for these people to stay. To make matters worse the tv began to malfunction; we couldn't get the guide or the ability to change the channels. They sent up what seemed to be a very frustrated repairman complaining about all the things wrong with the hotel and began yanking the wires and HDMI cable from the back of the tv and doing whatever but he finally got the tv working but an hour later it was acting up again. Another problem was that the walls and ceilings are paper thin. All through the night we could hear chairs scraping the ground, someone running back and forth and got so bad we had to complain and the management did respond quickly and had a talk with the people upstairs about being courteous to others. With that being said the hotel was beautiful, the pool area was really modern with bars and a restaurant. And it wouldn't be fair if I didn't mention that for my room inconvenience the same manager comped us for the $54 a day resort fee and we were staying there for 4 days.

Yelp
Just came back friom a 6 day stay. Place is great. Free shuttle from airport (about a 10 minute ride) Daily free shuttle into and back from town. Outbound runs on the hour and the return trip runs on the half hour. About a 10 minute or so ride. Johnny and Luanne are the drivers and very informative. Food was great. Service was great. Pool is nice. Smathers Beach right across the street. Mimi, the assitant general manager, was very responsive to any questions we had. Would recommend.

Yelp
I've always wanted to check out Margaritaville in all the years I've been coming to Key West. Yesterday, my flight along with 3 other of my cousins were bumped off American Airlines. We were given vouchers to stay the evening at Margaritaville until our flights out today. We checked in last night and all 4 of our rooms were on different floors and all spread out. We got to the room and I was immediately grossed out by the sand that was all over the bed. We went down to the bar for a bite and a drink. The drinks were good and the food was borderline from the frozen food isle in the supermarket. We started getting eaten alive by mosquitos outside so we decided to call it and night and head to bed. When I tell you the hotel was INFESTED with mosquitos inside I am not kidding. They were coming out of the vents from the rooms. We were stuck in the elevator with about 6 of them too ! Needless to say, I packed up, left my key at the counter and walked out of the hotel to never return ! Absolutely gave me the heebie jeebies from the second I walked in !

Yelp
Once a beautiful clean hotel with excellent staff in now rock bottom! Stayed here for my last time. The bites on your legs are not from no seem bugs they are roach and bed bug bites. Management doesn't care still waiting for my pest inspection like i was told. Also was told all resort fees would be waived and two nights credit. Sorry that didn't happen either. Bartender lexi didn't wash her hands after picking her lips and nostril this place is an adorable hotel that needs someone who cares to run it

Yelp
We had a girls trip and couldn't wait to get there with my friends from Chicago. Check in was ok. There was a long line and only one person to check everyone in. We all received a complimentary margarita while we waited. I'm happy we had a pool view instead of an ocean view as they are working on the road right outside. The room was decorated great but there was a wad of long dark hair stuck on the shower wall. The couch and chair in the room were stained. Also we had ants every day that really creeped out the northern girls. The ice machine on our floor was broken. 11/7/23 The very worst part was our first trip to Duval St. on the shuttle. We sat in the last row as there were 5 of us. We didn't notice right away that the seats were wet but whenever we turned the A/C spilled water all over us. Even our hair was wet so we had to walk around in wet clothes. The driver could have said not to sit there or put something there to keep people out or let them know the seats are wet. Also there is a $54 resort fee every day. We could have Ubered for that. I mean we booked a resort. Shouldn't that be included in the price?? We were looking forward to this trip and thought we'd have a 5 star experience but we didn't. The lobby, restaurants and pool area were clean and service was good. If you order avocado toast there is only guacamole and no chunks of avocado. The drinks and food were good. I replied to an email asking about our stay and let them know about our issues but still haven't received anything back. We paid almost $2,500 for 3 nights 11/6-11/8 Disappointed

Yelp
Had a very nice stay in a one bedroom suite. Room was spacious and clean, everyone who worked there was very nice and the food/drinks were surprisingly good for a hotel (albeit a little pricey). Knocked off a star for two things: 1) the shuttle service is a bit of a mess. The shuttles are small and first come first serve at the top of the hour. You have to lineup 30 minutes before or else be prepared to wait for another shuttle. Cabs are a better choice. 2) While the bed was comfortable, the pillows are absolutely the worst I've ever used. Those two things said, I would absolutely stay here again

Kara M.

Yelp
The shuttle driver told me to "put my big girl panties on". I found this to be very unprofessional and rude.

Yelp
I live in SWFL. This isn't my first time toKey West. However, it IS my first time staying at Margaritaville Beach House. And very likely my last. I've read reviews boasting about hospitality - maybe they confused another "place" with this one. Because hospitality is definitely not on the list of words I would use to describe this "resort." Maybe short-staffing is an issue? The poolside smoothies/popsicles never happened, and the pool area smells strongly of chloramines (if you're unsure what this is... look it up and imagine what you're swimming in). The floors in the rooms need a good cleaning - make sure to bring socks or wear your shoes/sandals around the rooms, or your feet will have dirt/sand all over them. The shuttle to downtown is nice. They will drop you off at the Brewery. The resort driver fails to mention at drop-off (so I'm telling you now, if you've never been to KW) that you can walk a block and hop on the free Duvall Loop transit. I have walked from the brewery to the southernmost point - not recommended in this heat. The Duvall Loop bus will take you by the lighthouse and close to the southernmost point, if either are on your to-do list.

Yelp
Pablo and Leo took great care of us. Pablo educated us on greet rums and made sure we were good the whole time. Great service can make even the most mediocre establishment quite a special experience. Thanks Pablo!

Yelp
Make sure you budget in the resort fee! We were charged the following for a one night stay (in addition to the hotel reservation): $48 resort fee + $3.60 resort fee sales tax + $2.40 resort fee occupancy tax = $54 in resort fees! Minus one star. We had breakfast and lunch here which were both fantastic. For lunch, we had the fish tacos (got this twice) and the fish sandwich. The clear winner was the fish tacos because the sauce stole the show. The pool area felt very like vacation, and the music playlist never got old. Lots of comfortable lounge chairs with umbrellas that kept us dry while it rained all morning, but that didn't stop us from enjoying the pool (it's a perfect temperature) and jacuzzi. The checkout time is 11, but they extended ours to 11:30 free of charge. Anything after that, they start charging you depending on how much more time you'd like. There is a nice bathroom with a shower next to the gym which proved very convenient after we checked out of our room, and then spent the day at the pool. The spacious bathroom even has shampoo, conditioner, and soap. When you check in, ask for a room near the pool. Our room was so, so far from the pool which made it kinda annoying to do anything - carrying our luggage to/from the room, going to the gym, going to the pool, going to the beach across the street, eating at the restaurant, etc. They have an airport shuttle and a shuttle that takes you downtown. Note that you can't walk to Duval Street from this hotel, or you can but would be a super far walk. The Uber cabs are plentiful, always quick to arrive and about $15 to get most places. Five starts for the helpful and friendly staff!

Yelp
Had a recent stay here -we were a family of four and stayed in the 2 bedroom 1.5 bath suite. First off-the property and vibe is adorable! Margaritaville all the way and tropical. Really cute decor touches -appreciated them all. Our room was actually better than imagined. Really cute decor with a retro green microwave and fridge! plus free water. It was about 3 separate rooms( sliding doors makes them more private) 3 tvs. and If you were a family of 5 -or 6 you can all fit-as the bunk beds in kids room are either double bed or queen size. And there is a pull out couch in the living room. The room has some cabinets in the master bath and a few hooks -but kids room had like one hook in the bathroom and nowhere to put anything else but the floor. Our check in was quick and easy with magaritas as a welcome drink . Also cookies in the lobby every afternoon for free-kids loved! Shuttle was easy, but did uber most of time due to our own schedule. Pool area cute -smallish pool , but property isn't so big that it will get over crowded. There's a real beach just across the street which has an island vibe=so nice. Only set backs are-we needed something fixed in the bathroom and it never was-toilet seat literally came off in kids bathroom-was like that when we arrived. Housekeeping ok-but room was always cleaned very late. I would advise filling out the paper that asks when you prefer your room to be serviced. Also-there should be another shower in the other room. This set up can be doable with kids but if you have a girls weekend or are with other adults it's no bueno. But it's not a deal breaker. Overall would stay here again and recommend. Would give 4.5 stars.

Yelp
I am so disappointed. Check in time was around 5:50 pm. Had to drive around because the room wasn't ready at 4. The photos to me were deceiving . Especially the beach. Jellyfish everywhere . Can't go in the water because of the jellies , seaweed , and construction where you have to cross the street. You can't control the jelly fish and the seaweed I get that but dang I wish I researched before coming here ... . I was really looking forward to this. Not what I expected let down . I am sad :( We never got a complimentary drink upon arrival. They did construction or something outside our room near the pool near 11 at night , sounded like drilling and they have in the room a sound device to try to block the sound out ... The sound from the drilling or cleaning kept me up. We had ants ..... the shower felt flooded . Canceled the rest of our trip. :(

Yelp
I love this hotel! I stay here for work frequently and am always happy to return again and again! I'm not sure the backstory/business decision of why they dropped the Sheraton Flag, however, they did a pretty amazing job on the marketing spectrum with rebranding the property. I love the rooms, they are clean, crisp, and truly updated. I would say 95% of the updates make sense, I question the choice of choosing all-white for walls and trim, I figure it will not wear well, but right now it looks great! There is also a woven basket type thingy slouched in the corner of the room, not sure what that is for? Used towels? Decorative? No idea. The T.V.'s swivel-mounted and are massive, easy to use remote. I love having a (huge as far as hotel rooms go) fridge and the microwave is nice and easy to use. I kinda was disappointed not having coffee in the room, however, they state they have espresso machines to lend if you call the front desk? I did not bother however because they have a drink "station" on each floor with an industrial Keurig machine with pods of coffee/hot water with creamer, sweeteners, and sugar as well as a cold water dispenser and ice! The downtown shuttle is nice however I wish it ran a couple of hours later than 10:30 p.m. being the last pickup, I almost have always had to UBER back to the hotel for that reason. Overall location, pool, amenities, and charm make this a great choice for a stay in Key West!* *That resort fee though, OUCH!!

Kayla C.

Yelp
I want to start off by saying this place is pricey but there are some perks. The shuttle service was super convenient and the room was clean and very nice. I had a side room that had a nice view very stunning. But my family was all together and i have a young baby she was laying on the couch almost asleep and a lady came over and said if we didnt have a $100 tap we couldnt sit there and there should have been a sign but didnt know why.. there was maybe one or two other families at the pool and two other couches able to be used. I didnt see the problem but i moved my daughter anyways. I thought for the price it would be more but it is what it is now a days.

Yelp
Disappointing. We've stayed at other Margaritaville hotels and this was just an average hotel. Nothing special. In need of updates and flooring outside of rooms is trip hazard, some kind of material glued to floor that bubbles and catches on your shoes. Lights are not working or blown bulbs throughout the facility making it very difficult to see where you are walking to get to your room safely after dark. Had one meal at the restaurant. Chicken sandwich and fries were good, guava bread pudding was terrible. Tasted like it was over cooked and chewy. Big Fan if JB buy won't be staying here on our next visit to Key West

James M.

Yelp
The worst part of staying here is we were forced to stay another night because we drove from naples,FL and there was too much rain today to drive back! " DON'T DO IT TO YOURSELF!" Much problemas

Yelp
We had such a wonderful stay for our 10 year anniversary! Love that the resort is across the street from Smathers Beach. The hotel staff was very kind and attentive - they even left us a bottle of champagne in our room upon arrival for our anniversary. (So sweet!!) The food and drinks were good - we loved hanging out poolside! We even got to see some iguanas ! The lobby has complimentary drinks from 11am-4pm which was also a nice touch. Having their concierge there to help book excursions was a plus too. We ended up booking scooter rentals, dinner cruise and an all day water adventure. (Highly recommend) They also have a shuttle to take you into town and back throughout the day. There also are a few events each day at the hotel itself- the one at the tiki hut was super fun and interesting (learning about the ghost stories of the town). They also have a sister hotel (Havana Cabana) which has the biggest pool in key west. We rode our scooters there one day snd had full access to all of the amenities there as well. So it was fun to hang out at their pool and bar for the day to change up the scenery. I definitely will stay here again if we are ever in the Keys. Beautiful atmosphere!

Yelp
The hotel was beautiful, however considering the fact that we had a twin queen room with a sofa bed listed as accommodations for 4 to 6 people, we were very disappointed in the lack of drawer space for storing clothes. In need of repairs were the toilet paper holder in the bathroom, the pocket door to the bedroom from the bathroom also, and the sofa bed was filthy. They could certainly use a better maintenance crew. Other than that the staff was very friendly and accommodating, the bus drivers into town were courteous and helpful. Overall, I would recommend your resort.

Yelp
Pros: Across from a not-packed beach; complimentary shuttle pickup from/drop off at airport; gym with weights; pool with entertainment, cocktails, and decent grub; large suites; free coffee all over the resort; free hourly drop off at the main pier area by Duval street Cons: Approximately 1 hour trek to main pier area by Duval street; small pool area with only a few pool chairs; limited food options; no true breakfast cafes within walking distance (unless you consider 40ish minutes doable on an empty stomach). I would stay here again, because I'm in tremendous shape and jogged to the main pier every day to get my drink and eat on.

Yelp
My husband and I could not be more pleased with our stay at the Barbary Beach House! This experience was one filled with so much happiness! Upon our arrival we were slightly worried because the recent storm had kicked up quite a bit of seaweed and produced a fairly unpleasant odor, but in the days that followed this all passed and completely went away. Even with this initial slight distraction, the rooms themselves did not carry any trace of the outdoor odor. Before our arrival my husband and I text the front desk, to request an early check in if possible. We did not receive a response right away and went to the hotel to drop off our bags and let them know we would be in the area if one came available. To our surprise not only was one available, but it was already ready when we arrived. We were greeted warmly to the resort with a smiling faces and a wonderful welcome drink, which was delicious! When we reached our room we were even more blown away with the personalized welcome scroll wishing us a Happy One Year Anniversary, and with some complimentary Sushi Cupcakes. The rooms are perfect!! They are beautifully designed while offering space, comfort, and confidently cleaned! We were very pleased to have a mini fridge and microwave in the room. The pool area is very nice, and has a fantastic bar attached where you can order the $10 drink of the day, or choose from one of the many other delicious drinks. We dined at the hotel 3 separate times throughout our stay and truly enjoyed each meal. Our favorites being lunch, where we ordered the Duval Cure (Burger) and the Shrimp Ceviche, both were fantastic. As well as breakfast, where we enjoyed cappuccinos and Smoked Salmon with Everything Bagels (we added poached eggs and hollandaise sauce to our order). One of the things that attracted us to this hotel were the added access to amenities that was included with the resort fee. This includes kayaks and paddle boards at the beach across the street. However, once we arrived we found out there was soo much more that they offered! Apparently they are sister properties with Havana Cabana and so we received text updates about what activities they were holding each night for the guests of the hotel. The shuttle guests between the two hotels so that you may enjoy the different activities they offer. They also offer a free shuttle to downtown each hour since they are not located right next to Duval Street. It was very convenient and we utilized this service during our stay. The most difficult part of our trip was the part where we had to say goodbye and leave. It's not often that you find a hotel that has such wonderful and engaging customer service. It is because of this that we will certainly be back and will be bringing our friends and family along with us the next time we return.

Yelp
One of the loveliest hotels I have stayed at, I will certainly come back again! Initially this hotel caught my eye cuz I was searching for a boutique hotel in key west, and honestly all their pictures on their social media were beautiful. Well- their pictures don't lie!!! The room and hotel grounds were spotless & brand new. Our 1 bedroom suite was amazing- bathroom was HUGE & so pretty. Bed was super comfy with a perfect view of the balcony. Living room area had a nice high top table and adorable vintage style appliances. I really loved the wood floors & all the artwork in the room, along with the bedroom pocket doors. The rest of the hotel was simply wonderful too. Relaxing indie pop music filled the air, the lobby always smelled so good (plus offered a complimentary frozen drink, cookies & apples), and the walkways were beautifully landscaped & had hammocks & tiki torches. And probably best of all is the pool area. Tons of places to sit and lounge (including complimentary daybeds), cute pirate ship theme, and a tiki bar as well. Beach is literally right across the street, and downtown Duval Street is 2 miles away. We rented bikes thru the hotel for $18 for 24 hours which was awesome- we biked to all the bars and restaurants easily a couple of times, and perused all the cute neighborhoods & coastline as well. Every employee we met was incredibly professional & offered 5 star service. Loved being able to text the front desk with any questions or requests. Hotel also provides free airport shuttles on request and a shuttle to other parts of key west on a schedule. This is def my type of hotel- clean, beautiful, upscale, awesome service, wonderful pool, beach access, and a mostly adult crowd.

Yelp
Never stayed at a Margaritaville and will never again. Only good point was the pool. The rooms were ok and served it purpose I guess. The AC would never keep up, the cold water was not cold, only had hot water. The food at the resort is way overpriced for what it is. I looked over the reviews and most of the negative reviews I see why. Check in was a little difficult. The "upgrades" are not upgrades. Just seemed like a tourist trap resort

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 nights in late September and we loved it. Chose this resort because it is right across from Smathers Beach. They have chairs you can take over to the beach so you don't have to rent them. Check in was smooth. The front desk staff were nice and explained the amenities. Hotel has a free shuttle that leaves on the hour and takes people down to the waterfront area (4 blocks to Duval St) and picks up from the same place on the half hours. Last shuttle pick up is 11:30pm. Shuttle drivers were great! Our room was very clean and bed was comfy. The sofa bed didn't have any linens but after calling the front desk they took care of it asap. Pool area is on the smaller side but we were out during the day either on the beach or in town and by the time we went swimming around 9pm we had it almost to ourselves and it was so nice. On site restaurant was good but doesn't serve breakfast until 8am so sleep in. Coffee bar is free and always open in the lobby. We didn't have pets but several folks had small dogs on the property. Overall it was a wonderful stay. This was our first trip to Key West and it was hard to choose whether to stay on the beach or close to Duval St. With the shuttle dropping right near Duval I'm glad we stayed at Margaritaville. It was heaven to come back in the evenings and enjoy a quiet, relaxing drink and swim in the pool

Chris C.

Yelp
If I could give it no star I would. I really wanted to like it from all the glowing reviews but what the pictures don't tell you is that this is a glorified motel 8. If you want intimacy, quite, relaxing place... don't come here. If you have 3 kids all at different ages and just need a resort to dump them off... then BINGO. There was nothing wrong with the staff it was just clearly missed managed and short staffed to do anything. The room we were assigned wasn't even touched and we checked in at 5 pm after driving 4+ hours. The guest there (at that time) had no idea of what personal space was and kept interrupting as I was speaking to the manager. It's just lack luster. If you want to do your own thing and don't care about kids running around the lobby or people smelling of smoke and vodka all the time, then by all means... If you want something more "adult" and luxurious, do your self a favor and stay at the kimpton in town.

Yelp
Great hotel. Would definitely return. Only downside was the pricing. Other then that there were absolutely no problems at all. Room was very nice and VERY clean

James E.

Yelp
Very nice place. Friendly staff. Right next to nice beach. They run shuttles every half hour to Duval street. The only negative is with all hotels and resorts now a days. Once you get there they charge you $100 a night deposit and their damn resort fees. Really wish places would just include resort fees in the original price. The deposit you will get back in 3/5 days. Still sucks to show up and they take $500/$1000 out of your account/credit card.
