Margutta 19

"How did it strike you on arrival?Arches and patterned floor tiles, flowers stood so perfectly in their vases they must be on the payroll, and a golden light falling just right on the cobbles outside. Nothing is left to chance in Margutta 19. Even dust doesn’t fall where it’s not supposed to. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Let’s make no bones about it, Margutta 19 is an expensive hotel, but it works hard to make itself worth the price, and the guests expect nothing less. They want the best, they want it quickly, and money’s not a barrier. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Deluxe Suites continue the clean lines found elsewhere in the hotel, with a partition wall separating the bed from a sitting room, where there’s a flatscreen television and writing desk. Everything’s a shade of pastel yellow, and sketches lines the walls, but none of that matters because you’ll probably spend most of your time on the little balcony overlooking the hotel's garden. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? There is very little better in this world than a free mini-bar, especially one that’s restocked twice a day. Chocolates, soft drinks and snacks are the order of the day, and the considerate staff will usually bring more of whatever you appear to have fallen for. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Margutta 19 wisely keeps its freestanding bathtub and walk-in shower separate, so when the time comes for a romantic sudsy evening in the bath, you’re not sick of clambering in and out of it. Frette towels are the perfect thing to find waiting when you’re done. It’s impossible to see how a loom could make anything softer. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Free Wi-Fi, strong signal. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?Imagine a tiring day traipsing around Rome, only to come back to your room and find a complimentary truffle sitting on your desk. Margutta 19 knows its clientele. Bottom line: worth it, and why? This is the very height of a modern, slightly clinical, hotel. Everything is perfect. Almost as if it were arranged ten seconds before you arrived. If that’s for you, then this is for you." - Maresa Manara

Margutta 19 is a smaller boutique hotel tucked away in a peaceful corridor near several art galleries. The property is convenient to the Spanish Steps (about an 8 minute walk) and to many close by restaurants and shops. ||The lobby of the hotel is small but never felt crowded. The desk attendants were nice and even helped us secure reservations at a restaurant that turned out to be a real gem. We were served breakfast every morning, which included a tasty buffet (the chia seed pudding was a treat) and included the ability to order freshly scrambled or fried eggs. This is where I had the very best cold Americana with almond milk. I am not sure what the waiter did, but it was literally a cup of magic that he created each morning. I would drink this over cold brews any day!||The room was comfortable and the bathroom was very spacious. The cleaning staff was on it and constantly kept the room clean and refreshed with waters and treats. We even received a complimentary bottle of wine! A small balcony with table chairs allowed us to relax in a garden setting, where you could always hear the birds chirping away.||The hotel is somewhat farther from other attractions like the Colosseum and Vatican- I would highly recommend having the hotel call you a cab as we often made the trek in 95+ heat and it was a struggle. But if you are looking for a peaceful location away from the crowds and noise, then this is it.

Loved the property. It's a hidden gem kind of hotel. Small, classy, quiet and intimate. Location can't be beat. Close to all the action but in a quiet side street. Steps from all the high-end shopping and dining. It's obvious that a lot of thought went into the design and interior decoration of the hotel, much more so than many five star hotels. The deluxe suite we stayed in is very comfortable and spacious. Everything in the room is well thought-out, created with high quality materials. The staff is always courteous and helpful.||My only two minor complaints are :||1) The hot water in the shower isn't very hot. The faucet in the shower is kind of hard to figure out and I tried every other way to get the water to reach the hottest temperature, without much success. While the water was warm enough for spring time when we stayed, I'd be concerned if we were staying there in the winter.||2) The smoked salmon served at the buffet breakfast is not of good quality and is very fishy. The usual accompaniment to smoked salmon such as capers or lemon slices were also not provided.||Hopefully these issues will be addressed because I'd love to return in a future trip!

My wife and I ended our recent Italian trip here and it was a home run. We had a classic suite which ticked all the boxes--classily decorated, smelled great, and super quiet for a big city. This is the second time we have stayed on Via Margutta and, to my way of thinking, this is the best place to stay in Rome. The street is quiet, charming and well located for sightseeing. The included breakfast at Emme was (by far) the best we had in Italy. We also had a delicious dinner there one evening. When we return to Rome, we will book here again.

From the excellent turndown service to the amazing breakfast, everything about this stay was more than I expected. The hotel is away from the city noise on this beautiful enchanting street, Via Margutta. The hotel is relatively small, there's not many rooms, so service/staff is very attentive. The rooms and hotel are modern yet still reflects all the charms of staying in a Roman hotel.

Very comfortable and enjoyable room when traveling with a friend. The bathroom was private, the bed was super comfortable. The only not real thing about this hotel was the room service. We were kind of surprised at how bad the food was when we ordered exhausted on night one. But you don't go to Rome for room service so enjoy!

An amazing stay in a beautiful and charming hotel that made us feel at home from the very beginning. Team is very friendly, rooms beautiful and clean, they go above and beyond for their customers. The area is also perfect, especially to visit nearby attractions and parks, or just shopping. Breakfast was spot on too! Overall we loved our stay and if in Rome will definitely be back, and we will also advise all our friends to visit

Everything about this hotel is luxe and adorable. The price tag may have been steep, but I found every penny well spent.||On our first visit to Rome ever in July, we were warned that it be hot. It was actually an inferno. The heat was so oppressive that it was absolutely critical to have a hotel room with fantastic air con. The Margutta 19 delivered. Retreating to the room at the height of the heat was perfection for a nice siesta daily. By sunset, we were rejuvenated to hit the cute neighborhood. The artsy streets, the beautiful piazza di popolo, a quick stroll to the Spanish steps, the quick walk up to the borghese garden, the quick access to via del corso, the lovely little family run restaurants and panini shops and gelateria, it was the right hotel in the best possible place to ooze charm and tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of roma. The streets to the hotel are narrow, so getting in and out via car can be challenging at times. However, it meant that you were in a quaint quiet neighborhood tucked away, the spirits of chic artists and famous Italian filmmakers could be felt.||I found the hotel staff to be amazing. From the diligent housekeeping to the solid reception staff, they never skipped a beat! They were always helpful and anticipated what you needed before you could even think of the detail you needed. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable. The breakfasts were solid and nourishing. The beds were comfy and the room sexy. We had a nice room overlooking the garden. I would come back to this lovely space in a heartbeat.

The hotel "had a problem", and despite having prepaid their most expensive room I find myself with it being cancelled with less than a week to go. An alternative was offered, a smaller, darker room at Fendi Private Suites which is their sister property, but honestly who wants to stay in an advertisement for their bags and clothes? With less than a week to go for a honeymoon break... here I am trying to now find a new place to stay. This is deeply, deeply disappointing... and visitors should not rely on any booking that you have with this hotel, it cannot be trusted.
