The hotel is outdated. The rooms are super dark. Many of the facilities were broken such as the toilet and the water faucet. After complaining about it a maintenance guy came to our room who stayed there throughout the day. I dont understand why they didn't give me another room. The hotel was basically empty. My room was inaccessible for the entire day due to maintenance guys being there. In tulum there are many nice hotels and resort. Don't spend your money on this one!

Maria del Mar is the perfect boutique escape in Tulum. The rooms are beautifully designed with a relaxed, authentic atmosphere, and the ocean views are simply breathtaking. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special, always welcoming and attentive. The location is ideal—close enough to explore Tulum, yet peaceful and private. I’d absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Tulum.

We appreciate the good service and dedication of the staff. Room and bathroom were kept clean and neat. Regrettably we couldn’t enjoy the beach due to sargasso but the pool was pretty cool.

Maria del Mar is a small hotel in a quiet part of Tulum. It has access to a lovely beach with nice loungers - there were always loungers free and they are not crowded together. Our room was great - spotlessly clean and spacious.||The team are really friendly and helpful. There is a nice restaurant next door (our only gripe was a very limited wine selection) and other good restaurants nearby. We got our laundry picked up/dropped off.||A lovely gem of a place and we hope to return!

Fabulous small hotel with very friendly helpful staff. Special shout out to Daniel - the manager who couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. We had a penthouse room which was really lovely. Very large, super comfy bed, plenty of hangers!!!!! (Why oh why are some hotels so mean with their hangers?) And a huge bathroom. ||The pool is lovely, the beach great with a lovely friendly member of staff clearing the seaweed away each day. ||The hotel is outside Tulum along a small stretch of other small hotels, bars and restaurants, a few shops and a gallery so not too busy, although enough to do for us. We did go into Tulum one evening (15 minute drive) and wandered up Avineda Tulum. || Lovely breeze at this time of year made sunbathing a delight and some wave jumping fun. ||Would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

Google
Beautiful little hotel, just what I was looking for! Welcome cocktails really nice, room amazing, bed extremely comfortable and a very big shower. The only noises are birds singing and the sea. |The beach is really tiny and from it you can see the turquoise water, even if this summer was full of sea weeds. Don’t let this stop you! The swimming pool is really nice and there are plenty of wonderful beaches to discover.|The staff is really the cherry on top of the cherry cake!!! All of them but Santiago at the reception has become our guardian angel since day one. He helped us with tours arrangements, taxis, local amenities but most of all he was always checking on us to make sure we were okay and having the best time ever! |Thank you with all my heart ❤️

Great small hotel at the beach and very close to other restaurants and shops. Room was nice and big pool. Mina restaurant also very good. The pizza across the street also very good. 711 nearby so it's convenient. Nice beach cove and keep clean.

Yelp
I don't know why this only has 3.5 starts. I give it 10/10 and recommend for a peaceful getaway. My husband and I LOVED how secluded and private this place was. It is very close to restaurants and about 10 minutes from the city. Very clean and staff were so friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
Maria Del Mar has amazing staff members on their team. It's convenient to walk to other stores and bars. The lady at the front desk is super sweet and made us feel welcomed upon arrival. House keeping cleaned our room everyday! Mario is the man, great personality; he helped us with our bags and was super accommodating. Minas restaurant was great, from breakfast to lunch it was everything we hoped for. Drinks are tasty and the staff is very nice. Make sure to tip them well. Muchas Gracias Maria Del Mar we will be back!!

Yelp
We absolutely loved our stay at Maria Del Mar! Everything about this property was beautiful and the service was excellent. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by friendly staff and received welcome cocktails that were so yummy! As a boutique hotel there aren't many rooms, which I loved because they can give each guest individualized attention. The staff makes everyone feel so welcomed and they are easy to get in touch with if you have any concerns. The room was very comfortable and came with organic toiletries and bathrobes. The rooms were a bit dimly lit, but that wasn't a problem at all as you can just open the windows and take in the bright Caribbean sun. The pool and hammocks were great to use and the property also has its own beach which was lovely! The restaurant is also good and right on the beach! You must try the fresh guacamole and margaritas! The location is ideal as it's right across from a convenience store, ATM, and close to the bar and restaurant Mateos, but I'd also recommend going a little more south for other restaurant options. It's also just a short bike ride or taxi over to the ruins! Would love to stay here again if I come back to Tulum!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I just had a 4 night girls trip getaway in Tulum and couldn't be happier with our stay at Maria Del Mar. From the get go we were blown away. Upon arrival we were greeted by Ezikiel and from there we already knew it would be an amazing trip. Ezikiel is a star! He did it all, he arranged a rental car for us (but we didn't feel comfortable to drive), grabbed our cabs, checked on us to make sure we were okay, called to make reservations for us at restaurants, and so much more (I'll stop now so you can experience his amazingness for yourself). Aside from Ezikiel, everyone else was also so great. Because of the small nature of the hotel (18 rooms) it really felt like the entire team took their time to get to know all the guests. We would be lounging on the beach and someone would come up to us personally to ask if we wanted our rooms cleaned and remembered to put in extra towels that we had asked for randomly that morning. The team at Maria Del Mar is definitely the best I've experienced at any hotel in any country I've visited before. Now for the hotel, this cute small paradise away from home is nestled at the start of the Tulum Beach strip (a few doors down for AZULIK). You're about 1.5-2 miles away from the main nightlife locations on the beach which was ideal for us because we could catch a short cab ride (or walk) anywhere we wanted but then got to go back to peace and quiet and get a good nights sleep (so critical for an R&R trip right?). I read some reviews which complained about the seaweed but all of Tulum was having this issue and the staff at Maria Del Mar worked so hard (I mean ALL DAY) to clear it as best they could. Yes you're not on the main beach strip, but rather a small out-cove but that made it feel like your own private beach. I will say the waves at the beach seemed stronger than the waves on the main beach strip but there's an amazing pool at Maria Del Mar that didn't make me miss the ocean one bit (and I'm always an ocean girl over a beach girl so that's saying a lot). I have zero complaints about this place: AC amazing, wifi strong, hotel team/staff above and beyond in every way, rooms huge, location ideal, vibes 100% what you're looking for when you think of Tulum!

Yelp
I cannot recommend this hotel -- it's unsafe. This property does not have staff after 11 PM other than a single security guard, who we saw sleeping through his shift when we would come back to the hotel late at night. This left the front desk and the entrance to our rooms completely accessible to anyone. On our last night here, our rental car was stolen from the Maria Del Mar private parking lot and totaled. We used the hotel's valet service each time we used the car during our stay, and they had both our keys and our car when the damage occured. The hotel did not accept responsibility for what happened to the car while both the keys and the vehicle were in their possession -- or for the missed flight and extra night we had to stay to (attempt) to resolve the issue. Take your money somewhere else. You'll find beautiful beaches and friendly staff all over Tulum, so choose a hotel that takes security more seriously.

Yelp
Great hotel! Fantastic design in the room. Really good food. Organic toiletries. Amazing view from the deck where you can take a yoga class every morning with a great teacher. Good pool and beach club. Quite, secluded beautiful beach which is a mega plus. However I don't know if it is always the case, but in February when we were there, it was quite an adventure to get to the ocean because of the mountain of see weeds ... and then it is a bit rocky, so not as easy as other beaches to get into the water... still a beautiful beautiful beach!! Super friendly and accommodating staff. Expensive hotel, but over all, worth it.

Yelp
I found this hotel last minute on hotels tonight app. Getting there was easy as it's close to the main road down to the hotel zone. They welcomed us and handled our luggage for us, they have a parking lot right across the street which was great. Check in was friendly but we had to sign so many different forms. There was also a weird $2 "protection fee" that had to be paid in cash, but they didn't have change for American dollars or enough peso change to break a 20$ so we had to go around trying to find someone to break a 20 which was harder than you would think. Our room was great, clean, a good size, with an an ocean view. The bed was comfortable and it had a separate bathroom unlike so many hotels in Tulum so there was a door and privacy. They also had refillable bathroom toiletries and water bottles which we love for environmental reasons. The lounge beds were cute and comfortable and the pool was great. They do have a private small beach area but unfortunately all of Tulum is currently covered in seaweed so we couldn't use it. For a hotel on the strip with an ocean view I found it to be a good value.

Yelp
Paid a fortune to stay here and it was a an experience worth about 1/4 of the price. We had the premier room of the hotel, there was no chair or desk in the room, the shades did not block the sunlight either. So strange they could have such a good location and view, but get these important details so wrong. Room was basically just a big concrete block. Save your money and stay somewhere else.

Yelp
I wish it was possible to give this hotel 10 stars, but 5 will have to do. This hotel was the best we've stayed at (and we've been to many in the same price range/stars before) and I can't say enough nice things about the location, staff and restaurant. Upon checking in, we were greeted by a very friendly and accommodating crew, whose smiles continued throughout our stay. Shout out to Abraham! Yes, it's a little more expansive than a few of the other places in TULUM, but I feel like even at places like Azulik (which can be 1000$ per room) there is a sense of pretense and snobbery that MDM lacks. Our room was perfect! Elegant, comfortable and had a great view of the ocean. Best sleep of the trip! Speaking of ocean, the hotel has its own beach it shares with just one other hotel. The restaurant Mina was also amazing! I was not expecting it to be, but we had one of our best meals on the sand one evening. Get the octopus ( if you're into that sort of thing) and try their wines. All in all, wonderful vacation! Thank you Maria Del Mar!

Yelp
BEWARE! ZERO STARS! Worse customer service ever! My husband and I booked a trip earlier this year and were unable to go due an emergency (a legitimate one). After weeks of fighting with them to give us a credit, we were emailed a random paper saying "credit" as a voucher... of course, only after they deducted their cancellation fee (fine, we dealt with that). Now we have been reaching out to reschedule our stay and redeem our "credit" for the last 2 weeks and no one has even made an attempt to assist us. Whoever answers their email, call or DM is unable to assist and continuously promise to forward the message to the person who handles that but no one ever gets back to us. When I have requested to speak to management I am told there is no manager. Really?! Super frustrating and sooo unprofessional. We are talking $1800 (after their cancellation charge). Nothing to be played about.

Yelp
I had the best stay at Maria Del Mar. The staff did an amazing job making us feel comfortable and taken care of. Their customer service goes above and beyond. In addition to that, the hotel is beautiful and has a lovely little cove beach/pool. I also think it has a great location closer to the beginning of the Tulum beach strip. You can easily get to all the things on the strip or to Tulum centro.

Yelp
I had a reservation scheduled and a day before we were supposed to arrive, I received an email explaining they were having water issues and had to move us to a different hotel. We planned our entire trip around this exact hotel/location so we decided to cancel. After going back and forth, they finally agreed to send me a refund and asking for my wire transfer information which I provided. Ever since, I have not heard anything from them or seen any refund and it has been almost a month. I have emailed and called several times with no response. None of the phone numbers work except 1 that connected me to the front desk and every time I talked to the lady, she said the manager was busy and would call me back. She took down my phone number and email and now when I try and call that same number, it goes straight to a busy signal leading to believe they blocked my number... It is outrageous they will not honor the refund due to their own hotel complications and are trying to sweep this under the rug...

Yelp
I have stayed here 4 times now, and have recommended many people to stay here, so needless to say at one point I really loved this hotel. I'm just getting home from a 5 day stay at Maria Del Mar with a few friends and unfortunately it left a lot to be desired. Let me start with the new management and new staff, specifically Lic Verenda- the sales director! There is no reason why one should wait five days to receive confirmation for a room, payment etc. The woman is incompetent and should probably find a new career, this isn't the one. There were multiple emails back and forth with this woman and the lack of response or interest in helping with bookings was unacceptable. Now let me tell you about our checkout experience... for starters my boyfriend and I were charged for a Milky Way bar that was "missing" from the fridge. For context, I'm lactose intolerant, and my boyfriend is a heath freak and will never eat a chocolate bar... EVER! But fine we paid the $5 for a chocolate bar!! It was more about the principle not the $5. We felt we were being taken for idiots. Next, my friend checks out of her $2600 premium suite and they claim to have a broken mirror in the bathroom which she is asked to pay $140 dollars!! My friend let's them know the mirror was like that when she checked in and their response was " You should have taken a picture and let us know" I don't know how many of you walk into your room on vacation and take pictures of any damages in your room. It's absolutely asinine!! Like I mentioned I've stayed here many times and have always loved the customer service, before arriving I was informed their concierge was no longer employed there and I was disappointed, let me tell you, you can tell! He was their best asset! I will never return to this hotel. Go elsewhere there are tons of hotels in tulum. Checkout La zebra! ;

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing! I would HIGHLY recommend. Amazing location, beautiful pool, excellent rooms, excellent service. The beach beds are relaxing and the waiters keep your drinks coming as necessary. Watch out for the sand fleas though, we got a LOT of bites. They also do a great job of removing the seaweed and there is no yucky smell thankfully. We definitely felt like we hit the jackpot. I will definitely be coming back someday. This is probably the best place I have ever stayed. I recommend that you venture to the south a little bit for better food and more people if it seems deserted. The chedraui and the oxxo are close by and convenient for stocking up on snacks, cigarettes and adult beverages. The chedraui is also good for an ATM that doesn't have a ton of conversion fees.

Yelp
Amazing place to stay in Tulum. Location is perfect - right across the road from a convenience store, a couple stops from a place to rent bikes, and next to plenty of restaurants and bars. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are incredibly friendly and very accommodating. Really felt like they did everything they could to go above and beyond. The rooms are immaculate and very comfortable. I highly recommend a room with a balcony. Even when it is fully/nearly fully booked it still feels very quiet. The hotel features a pool with outdoor shower for rinsing, and many cabanas and chairs for lounging on the beach with wait staff ready to bring delicious drinks and ceviche. Will definitely be returning for a longer stay!
