"This Victorian landmark has just been completely restored and revamped and is set to open this August, with a clubhouse vibe – dim lighting, lots of velvets and statement chandeliers, all set against a seductive colour palette of grey, purple and blue. It is also home to one of the oldest Scottish golf courses, not to mention a sleek spa and health club, pleasure-dome ingredients that make a stay here so spoiling. The golf course is especially impressive – even non-golf fans can't help but admire the rolling greens, restaurant and club, with epic views over the sea."

"Marine & Lawn have built their reputation on upscale golf hotels with outstanding views, and their North Berwick offering is no exception. Just under an hour’s drive from Edinburgh, it’s housed in a majestic, lovingly restored 19th-century edifice replete with chandeliers, parquet flooring, and antique furnishings. There’s a full-service spa and fitness complex onsite, plus a splendid bar full of dark wood and rich upholstery. Individually decorated rooms feature extravagant wallpaper, carved headboards, and chic Floris amenities." - Tablet Hotels

Lovely weekend celebration for our parents wedding anniversary. Special touches by staff were lovely and very kind. Restaurant/ kitchen staff served us well at dinner, with food and wine lovely and of a high standard and presentation. Rooms clean, well appointed with little touches like tablet and welcome card, made it personal. Spa fab with selection of pools, saunas and steam rooms to relax and chill. A few adverse comments from others about the building condition. Remember its an old grand building , having been recently refurbished to modern needs, great views, charming old worldy and full of character. We all enjoyed our stay. Thanks again

Been a while since we last visited and the hotel has had a lovely cosy makeover but the things that make it stand out are its wonderfully dog friendly ( but in a nice discreet way if you don’t have a dog lots of spaces to avoid) and more importantly staff were fantastic from the welcoming reception staff to the restaurant and bar teams and the lovely cleaning staff. Thank you for looking after us and making our stay special. Each and every one of you we encountered are a credit to the hotel.

Relaxation Spa and Afternoon Tea Day On arrival reception directed me to the spa reception staff all very helpful, showed round all the facilities. I was booked in for a massage, it was amazing!!!! Cheryl the massage therapist was brilliant highly recommend! Facilities - Thermal Suite - Sauna Rooms, Steam Rooms, Pool, Jacuzzi, Massage Showers. The Afternoon Tea consisted of an assortment of savoury, scones and cakes and I had several latte's as well, all presented on a stand with grapes and strawberries included, the staff in the Lawn Bar were very attentive. Views of the golf course and Bass Rock, i had a lovely day and would certainly recommend well worth a visit.

We had the most amazing weekend at the Marine Hotel for my Dad's 60th birthday! The food and atmosphere were great throughout, and our rooms with views over the golf course to the sea were incredible! The spa was also such a treat, with so many great and unique facilities to try out. I'd like to give a particular shout out to Dawn Hanratty who made my Dad's celebrations extra special by organising a lovely warm welcome and going the extra mile! Thanks so much for our stay and we'll definitely be back!!!

We had a lovely time in this beautiful hotel for our tenth anniversary. Waking up to a view of the sea was very soothing, and the spa was luxurious. The staff were friendly and the rooms immaculate.

The hotel was very nicely situated and staff lovely, but although it says it is 5* it felt more 4* to me. Dont let that put you off though as its definitely one of the best places to stay in the area and the whole building and location is quite dramatic in a good way , but I dont know if its because of the fantastic location ie on the beach, five minutes walk from town and near the golf course that maybe it doesnt have to try as hard as it should do. The decor is faded glory, It has grand areas, but it all feels a little tatty and the food in the restaurant is not really up to five star hotel standard. The beds too are just not what you would expect for a 5* hotel either and the spa too is so-so. It all just feels a bit dated but the staff and location are what makes this hotel worth the money.

The hotel/restaurant has fantastic views. My family really enjoy it. My two girls love the tea set and the lounge very much. Staff are friendly and professional.

Yelp
Great location located on North Berwick golf course. Pros: 1. Clean hotel (lobby, rooms, garden, spa) 2. Friendly staff. They went out of their way to help. 3. Great breakfast selection to suit everyone's taste. Cons: 1. Small rooms (our Jr. suite was no larger than a regular courtyard room). 2. Bed cover is a thick blanket (no sheets). Sweat for a while, kick off the sheet and be cold for a while. Seems typical in UK. 3. No plug in for a dryer in the bathroom. 4. Spa - Jacuzzi water temp is lukewarm. Steam sauna room had musty odor. Generally a good hotel, but certainly not up to the standards of equal value hotels of US or Asia.

Yelp
The hotel is in an unrivalled location, minutes from the bustle of the charming town centre whilst remaining quite and peaceful. The rooms are of a reasonable size, the restaurant is surprisingly good and the staff are helpful and attentive. Recommended for one-night stays in what is undoubtedly an unspoiled and traditional Scottish town.

Yelp
Marine Hotel. North Berwick. May 2nd 2014 ---5pmish Glasses of prosesco and nibbles. Divine!!! Beautiful view of the sea. Wonderful spa. The relaxation room was wonderful. Really may to return. I was a bit miffed though, the waiting staffs' clothes were dirty and unclean. A bit off putting. My friend a glad of prosceco and complimentary nibbles which I would have been happy to pay for. Beautiful location.

Yelp
Painful. Waiter slammed the wine glass on the table. Host shouted at waiters across tables. Food was average. Service discourteous. If you want to pay for bland food and poor service, this is your place.

Great location, the people were very friendly and attentive. Actually great food, but spotty service at the meals.
