They have the largest variety of items in P-town for sure. Surplus items varying from high quality to nick-nacks, and unusual oddball items too. IMO the best local shop see different things at reasonable prices - sort of a local regular business not another cookie cutter tourist shop selling just apparel. I make it a point to stop here everytime I pass through! It can be a little claustrophobic inside depending on how many other people are there, the place is packed full of inventory.

We never leave town without stopping in and looking and getting our mugs and adding to our set. Seashell mugs of blue. We bought dishes and a mug. Sadly the mug got broken on our travels. Great store friendly staff and we got to bring our fur baby in his stroller thank you. Do u do mail order?

Cool store with a variety of merchandise to choose from. Definitely recommend wandering into this store. If you collect license plates, this would be your place to shop.

Great location in the heart of Provincetown. You literally find everything. Lots of interesting stuff from license plates to clothing and survival kits. Don’t rush trough. Read and search fir the unique stuff and have a few good lough.

Felt like this place is straight out of Pirates of the Caribbean. You’ll find everything and anything here is such budget friendly prices. I bought a cute top here! Also, I had a doubt whether it was a thrift store but to my price the supervisor confirmed everything is brand new except the showpieces hanging on the ceiling. How cool!

Very large variety of things. Clothes, tourist things, license plates, collections and so on. Prices were fair.

True army surplus stores unfortunately no longer exist, but this is still a fun place to browse (kids would LOVE it!). If you want true US military surplus items, there are a small handful of things left, mainly some metal Vietnam-era ammo cases and if you dig hard enough, other small boxes and cases. Also, be sure to look up! Lots of cool old items overhead and in the rafters. Definitely worth it to check out if you’re here.

When I was a teen (decades ago) this was the one place I wanted to go for dummy hand grenades, ammo boxes and other military surplus. It is a delight for the eye with all types of clutter hanging from the ceiling. It still is an interesting place to visit, but I don't need anymore Russian gas masks or license plates. You cannot describe it but I recommend a visit.

This store has been a Provincetown landmark for over 50 years. Often known simply as "the army-navy store," Marine Specialties is an eclectic trove of salvage, surplus, slight irregulars, closeouts, overruns, misprints, mistakes, spare parts, odd lots, cast-offs, and new and nearly-new items. Over time it's grown to be the kind of jumbled, inclusive, and eccentric "army-navy" store Provincetown deserves. To me. walking in here is like walking into a bazaar in the Middle East, you don't know what surprises you will find as you walk down the aisles. The one thing you will be sure is that the price you will pay is a good deal..this is not an upscale shop at all, it's a place where you might get a trinket or a sweatshirt, but the variety will blow you away.....I saw many people buying the "old license plates" for $6....LOL.... Located at 235 Commercial Street on the water near the center of town, the shop is just a block and a half west of MacMillan Pier parking lot.

If "shut up and take my money" we're a store... This place has so much random, awesome stuff it's not even funny! I was able to find a Free People shirt for $10, a beautiful sweater dress for $29, and some warm and fuzzy Woolrich house socks for a great price. It's not just clothes, though; this place has all kinds of random things anyone in your party will enjoy. It's fun to simply browse the shop, even if you're not seriously interested in purchasing anything. My friend got some really lovely smelling soap, some beautiful new dishes for her home, and some souvenirs for family. There's truly something here for everyone.

I have been stopping at this store for years on our vacations to the Cape. I had an issue with a shirt that I noticed after we were already on our way home. They went out of their way to fix the problem and were extremely apologetic. This is true customer service!! Thank you !

What a treasure trove of trash, treasures, designer clothes, trinkets and toys. This is a "must go to" when in wonderful P Town. Lucas, the premier sales associate helped me so much today. I love scoring super deals on Lucky Lotus/Lucky Brand and other cool clothing items. Fun for all.

I love it here. Its like a gritty TJMaxx. Its filled with tons of cool, fun, kitsche stuff. Its a tag sale with name brand items that lost their tags. Army gear, costumes, hats, shells, clothing, etc. I always find something special I can't find somewhere else. It appears to be located in an old warehouse made of wood, low lights and creaky. And its on Commercial Street, Provincetown. It cant get any better than that. Love it!

This was a really one of kind shop that everyone visiting ptown should visit. They have all sorts of random things to purchase, from seashells to funky socks to sequin backpacks. I didn't buy anything but it was super hard not to with all the cool souvenirs and stuff all around. Def a must go to stop when in ptown even if you're not planning on buying anything.

It's like a treasure trove for the imagination. This is a clear destination every time we visit Provincetown. On our last visit we found a 6 feet tall metal suit of armor, a pink frilly formal dress, old license plates, and surplus Russian naval uniforms. As other reviewers have noted, this is basically an army and navy store, but there is always something new and fun to discover. I've also purchased some pretty rocking puma ballet flats, as well as probably the softest dyed tee shirts I've ever felt. Come prepared to be surprised and keep an open mind. Also come prepared to spend a good bit of time wandering around, if that's your thing. For those with allergies, would also recommend popping an antihistamine before you go in. The place is relatively clean, but those centuries old antiques come with centuries of hidden dust. Happy exploring!

This place is really hard to describe. It sells complete and random crap, and I mean that is the most positive way possible. If you need crap, you should head to this place without delay. But if you were looking for creepy random doll parts I think you're out of luck since I didn't see them when we visited today. I would say they sold out of them but I can't possibly imagine that happening. But fret not, since there's plenty of other good crap still available at reasonable prices. I wanted to buy this awesome red drum-major jacket but at $100 I was overruled. I'm sure there's still some WWII-era French military-issue underwear there somewhere. Where else are you going to find stuff like that? Absolutely nothing is organized and neatly displayed. It's almost like they went out of their way to make the place as messy and disorganized as possible, which is part of its charm. Yeah and it smells like you walked into a closet filled with musty WWII-era French military issue underwear. In other words if you're in P-town don't miss this place and make sure you allocate plenty of time to spend rummaging through all the wonderful crap.

The most unique vintage/souvenir shop I've ever been to. Old/unique license plates + army gear + seashells + buoy's in decorative colors + fisherman nets + Cape Cod swag. This store literately has. it. all. A must visit in Provincetown. ----------- note- the store is realllly hot inside. I didn't see a single AC unit, plenty of fans though. Just be prepared for all that hot air swirling around.

Time stands still in Marine Specialties! I have been coming to this shop since I was a little kid and not a lot has changed over the years. Back in the old days I would come in to browse with my grandpa while he scoped out all of the "junk" this shop has to offer. If you are in Provincetown it is a must to come in here and take a lap through the store. You never know what you will find here...Military paraphernalia, old license plates and a random assortment of collectible items. You never know what you might walk out with. I promise you, it's well worth taking 5 minutes of your time to browse the obscure offerings that this shop has. The shop is located in the middle of Commerical Street, you can't miss it.

This Store is HOT. An Army/ Navy Store in Gaysville. Yes...A must stop while on the end of the cape. A TIGHT FIT of a store with cool oddities and ends... Some of my finds.... -Real cotton surgical masks. I keep them just on case of a New England VARS or BIrd Flu epidemic. -A cool yellow ribbed tank top with some cool European patch on the chest. - straw beach mats. - Assorted airplane enameled tableware.(for my queer picnic basket) -Tonz of old US license plates. -Nice beach shorts and swim suits. - Small glass bottles. -Assorted metal buttons -Old WW2 gas masks. - Leather boots. This is a fun way to kill 10 minutes or 1 hour just browsing. The place is not well ventilated. Very stuffy. AND Cruisey too!! I love the Armed Forces!

A store for people that like to dig It's dark, cramped, dusty and stinky and one of the most fun stores anywhere. You don't go in here looking for a specific item, you probably won't find it. But you will find all sorts of stuff you didn't think you needed but will buy anyways. Every time I go in I find something that I can't believe a store is actually selling or that someone would buy. Then I usually end up buying it myself. It's always changing so every time is a new and bizarre experience.

Junk. Junk. Junk. Junk. Junk. Junk. Everywhere. In the trunk. On the floor, the ceiling, hanging, piled up. It's everywhere. It's great, it's entertaining and best of all, it's cheap. At least for the most part. This place is perfect for anyone with an attention deficit disorder. Entering this place is like introducing a kitty to a laser pointer. You'll immediately be sucked in and too distracted to even notice anyone. You'll trample people as you try and reach over to grab and play with some random item. You will point, you will laugh, you'll try stuff out. You might also lose your phone (*cough* Johnna *cough*) and then later realize that there's little in the store that you actually need. You just want some of the stuff. Some noticeable highlights are: - French parachute cord - Gasmasks - A giant plastic lobster - Soviet army hats and badges - A Swedish flashlight - All sorts of weapons - Wedding dresses - Tin lunch boxes (not as cool as the Yelp one though!) And many, many, many more. And that my friends, is why Capitalism rules.

I love this store and always have. I grew up on the Cape, so as soon as you get your license you go To Ptown and Boston. The Marine Specialty store has always been a stop for me. I recently did pretty much all of my Christmas shopping here. You can find stuff from silly crazy masks to great toys for kid to great quality wool products straight from Ireland. I love this store! You can also find name brand clothes at a discounted rate and outdoor gear, along with old military uniforms. This store seriously has something for everyone!

I did it. I bought a gas mask. God help us all.

The stars I'd offer a mini-warehouse of military belt buckles, messages in bottles, pipe cleaner ski caps and American Airline flatware from the first-class cabin could not outnumber the pips in our galaxy, friends. Granted, a few items in their (dare I undershoot with a word like) eclectic inventory are somewhat aquatically related, but one could just as easily tie the name Marine Specialties to the flotsam - these treasures couldn't be jetsam! - washed ashore from the planet's coolest trinket freighter. Nets and anchors draped beside wooden samurai swords and discount corduroys, with fat guy in a thong T-shirts folded neatly next to 40-year-old Army issued MREs. It's a museum for sale, or Willy Wonka's attic, or a door into Terry Gilliam's Amazon wish list. And to offer a complete guess as if I, or anybody, could possibly cost compare a pair of 2008 New Year's Eve party glasses, the prices are reasonable. Will wonders never cease? Not as long as Marine Specialties keeps its doors open.

Probably the best store ever. I wish we had gone here before Halloween. It's difficult to adequately describe this huge, musty warehouse full of the most random assortment of crap you can imagine...the only thing all their goods have in common is that they're awesome and I want them. I'm just gonna make a list of some of the things we saw here: - Sticks for 29 cents - A real shark in a bottle (pictured) - A huge selection of pimp hats - Random underwear with the following sign above it: "Please return underwear to appropriate box when opened." - Hundreds of used license plates - A bicycle hanging from the ceiling - Old school gas masks - A wheel room with a big old helm and a wide variety of glow-in-the-dark stars - A suit of armor I have no idea what to make of this place. But if I ever did come up with something to make of it, they would have all the materials I'd need to make it.

What a groovy place. If you can't find it here...well you probably can't find it. Then again if you have ADD its best you take your Ritalin before you enter. I walked out of here with a couple things...dropped 2 Lincoln's and still had enough to buy an ice cream cone down the street. Love their cool vintage sign collection. I would have scored a couple of those if I hadn't taken the ferry.

Oh wow I havent been here in about 2 years but it is indeed a lot of fun. So many things to try on and try out, but the store is just really unique. My friend bought me an american airline plate from here as a gift because she knows I love airline stuff. When I visited here, I remember seeing it all and falling in love, it was like a Lifetime movie. They have it all.

The Royal Mail Satchels were interesting, I almost bought one! Great prices on post cards and magnets. Yes, there seems to be a little of everything in this store. I remember going here as a kid and remember the store being a treasure trove. As you're shopping, look up once in a while. This store may be as quirky as the rest of Provincetown.

On my 30th year shopping here! One of our favorite summer haunts. Back in the day it was a true military surplus store and every visit was a surprise. They've adapted to the times, sell less surplus and more touristy items. Still, you can always find something interesting. There's a ton of merchandise under one roof. Plan to be there a while. Also, look everywhere! There are incredible antiques (not for sale) hanging everywhere. So much fun! We just finished a sword fight (wooden oversized swords) in the middle aisle! Very kid friendly, not pushy...LOVE! You must stop by at least once a trip!

This store has so much random and entertaining stuff. It's kind of like a marine version of the Garment District in Cambridge. Ready to dig for some random treasure? Crazy assortment of clothes, shoes, seashells, gas masks (random, remember?). Try the Beach Plum jam. So delicious!

Themed as an old army/navy supply store but has tons of fun eclectic goodies. Make the trip even better by going after bar hopping around Ptown, bound to get a few laughs and find something good.

What's not to love about Marine Specialties? This was my second time here in as many years and I am happy to see that things being sold here keep changing. Like this time the airline's serving plates and glasses were gone and were replaced by even funkier tumblers and margarita glasses. Which is the best part. So you will find the out of this world gas masks, fun wigs, interesting costumes (I wonder if this store has additional collection during Halloween!?) and some cool casual wear at very low prices. It is also a great place for anyone who is a collector. Pins featuring different eras, old license plates, old vinyl records, tin advertisement plates of coca cola and Marilyn Monroe selling liquid foundation. Definitely a collector's heaven if you have the patience to go through the back of the store, especially near the walls. Chances are you will find something that will take you back in time and you will pick it up as a piece of treasure. There is stuff for everyone. So if you are traveling with kids, there are some fun plastic guns with disco lights, (Wish that was the sole purpose of guns btw!), cute flip flops, and a limited clothes collection. The clothes for men and women are quite a mixed variety. But most of it is casual wear that you can relax in at home. And if you don't find anything that you would like to take home, you can always come out and listen to the dude on the piano singing his heart out.

I am sooooo dragging other yelpers here! This place is jam packed with stuff crazier than the queens strolling down Commercial Street! Marbles (sold by the scientific measurement known as a handful)? check! Gas masks (replacement filter canisters as well)? check! Doc Martens? check! Asian silk purses? check! Coffee mugs? check! Lobster trap buoys? check! Ben Sherman track jackets ($25.00 each!!? check! Vintage leather jackets (sold at $4.00 a pound)? check! Light up floating rubber duckies? check! Vintage American Airlines dinner plates? check! (and no, I am not making this stuff up as I go along...) This place is filled to the brim and like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get. Bring a fun friend with you and plan to spend a little time digging around. Also plan on laughing when your friend puts on those sunglasses that look like cocktail glasses with little umbrellas sticking out of them... Loads of fun? check!

A second trip to Marine Specialties confirms two things: 1. There is absolutely nothing in here that anyone needs 2. Need and want are often two very different things Let go of the first, embrace the second and buy that seashell/weather vane/ doll part/cocktail dress/tea cup/rope/tin lunchbox. The memory and story of having purchased it here is worth the price alone.

I know I've referenced Fallout 3 a few too many times, but if you lived in the 1950s via 2270s motif of post-apocalyptica, Marine Specialties would be your first stop. Let me count the ways: -Gas Masks! -Old license plates! -Police batons! -Pots and pans! -Marine stuff! -American Airlines first class plates! -lots and lots of clothes, both designer and wacky (Leather jackets at $4 a pound! :-O ) Simply put, if you needed to hunt down some Super Mutants, or just do regular-sounding things, this is a nice place to do it :)

Souvenirs in front. Militaria in the back. It's not just a store: It's an experience. Venturing into Marine Specialties is a must for anyone who visits PTown because there is simply no other store quite like it on the Cape, or anywhere, for that matter. It's kind of overwhelming, in a good way. Anyone who enters should definitely enjoy thrifting and/or adventure because it is not your standard, cleanly shopping experience. You'll have to get your hands dirty. And it might smell bad (i.e. it smelt like a wet dog near the front of the store when I was there, and it probably was just that. Generally it does smell a bit musty from the old military items). Following the standard format, here's a list of some random treasures: -Imitation pirates' booty coins, selling for about $2.50 each -Seashell night lights -Seashells carved with horoscope signs, which reminded me of a souvenir from Florida that my grandma would've given me back in 1985 (see photo) -Some sort of military fishnet tops that would have made a really great unisex club shirt/dress -Name brand water shoes and flipflops -Feather boas, in an array of colors -'Marine Specialties' logo t-shirts -Fun magnets, stickers, and postcards -Military bags, cases, and equipment (all of which my boyfriend knew the name and purpose of, and he bought an ammo pouch for $5) -Women's new waist length pea coats (which I bought for $20, original price tag was on there for $80) Number one unique, random, useless item: -Brass hour glass (no longer functional, sand stuck...may have been the actual wording on the sign) Why??? Why not? This indeed must be the major philosophical question of any patron of Marine Specialties.

This place is ridiculous. Ridiculously amazing. You never know what you're going to find here. I have a friend who bought a gas mask. I have another friend who found their first license plate from when they were a teenager. During one visit, there was a completely creepy barrel full of doll arms and legs. Yup, a barrel full of arms and legs. There are clothes, knicknacks, flags, patches, dolls, dresses, soaps, military pins, rubber duckies. Stop in, and give yourself some time to poke around. You can definitely get lost looking through all the wares. And who knows, you might just find some buried treasure.

This is the strangest store EVER!!! Its essentially an Army/Navy store, but marches to a different beat. They have almost anything you would ever want to find in such an eclectic store. I bought a jacket here in 2004, it finally fell apart in 2013.... I got more than my money's worth. I find the most interesting thing they sell is discontinued plates and cups from airlines... you can easily build up a service of 8 for very little money if you don't mind Pan Am logos on things. The back is a serious marine store, you can get the latest nautical maps and other boating supplies, I have several P-town harbor charts rolled up right next to me. I didnt push but I could probably have gotten all my USCG-Aux ribbons and the like as well.

Everthing you need to stock and decorate your bomb shelter! My first thought when i walked in to this place was "what a bunch of useless junk". As trekked further in to this place i started thinking "what a bunch of COOL useless junk". It was like they went back in time and raided an WWII army barraks. Pin-up girl posters and all! In additon to the old army surplus stuff they have a number of odd toys, sea shells, leather by the pound and funny hats....and a hello kitty lunch pail (eh Liana K?). Just an eclectic mix of....stuff, that can't be fully listed...or understood for that matter...in one review. Definitely a novelty stop on any trip to P-Town.

I was at provincetown for the weekend, ran into this store randomly after lunch when we decided to take a walk. This is crazy place where you can find ANYTHING from used, antique, exotic to brand new. It sells things like knifes, army accessaries, coats by pounds, used wedding dresses, vietnamnese hats, clothings, shells, signs, used car plates and etc....The prices are very resonable and you'll definitely get something out of the store if you browse throughout. Highly recommended to check it out while you're in Provincetown.

Everything you could ever possibly need (minus food) rolled into one store. Leather jackets by the pound? Why not. Replica revolvers? sure. Souvenirs from the ocean (shells, starfish, etc)? That too. This is really the type of store you have to actually go in to fully understand. No review can fully encompass the ridiculous beauty of this store. If you're in P-Town for a day, check it out, you'll definitely find something for you.

I love Marine Specialties! It's basically my favorite store in P-Town. You can get anything there! Ok, not anything, but all sorts of unexpected things. Everything from swimwear to petrified fish, umbrellas to funny hats, military gear to seconds of brand name clothes. It's dusty and musty and sometimes you have to dig through bins and barrels to find what you're looking for-- but it's worth it. It's also (due to the magic of P-Town) one of the only places I've ever shopped drunk.

DOLL HEADS! PIRATE SHIRTS! ARMY NAVY MARINE ETCETERA SURPLUS ETC ETC. GAS MASKS! rummage and find! beware of attack (insert thing here). straw mats for about 5 bucks (much much much better and lighter than the beach towels). made me smile. yes.

No trip to P-town is complete without a troll through Marine Specialties. I walked out with only a small bag of purchases, this time, but that was an oddity for me. Best Deal: My fully kevlar padded motorcycle jacket. Or was it my Doc Martens?...Or the full rain suit...Hard to say. This time I got some totally comfy slip-ons for $9. My sweetie just dumps me off here for a couple of hours, and we meet up later. I need hours to delve through the stacks of treasures.

This place is great. It provided lots of entertainment for me and my friends. There are crazy sunglasses and hats to try on. There is everything from military items to throw back to the 70's to retired license plates and even baby doll arms and legs. Who knows what one would do with everything in that store but if you are looking for something obscure you just might find it here. It is a can't miss place in p-town.

Eclectic, thrifty store, with sort of an army/navy vibe. You can find just about anything here. Shoes, boots, shirts, wedding or prom dresses, jewelry, stuffed animals, crazy hats, gas masks, sailor clothes, fishing supplies, army surplus, belts, tee shirts, bathing suits, vintage band and movie posters, license plates, bottles, shells, lunch boxes, magnets...I could go on. Prices here vary. I can remember a pair of chucks from here costing $50, a steep price. But about two summers ago, I got an army coat for only $20, which is now a staple of my wardrobe. Also, they sold me playbills from the original productions of "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Women Behind Bars," both very rare, for only ONE DOLLAR EACH. That's a great deal! Note that the store is packed to the gills with both stuff and people, making it VERY HOT on the inside.

This is one crazy store to visit, kind of 'something for everyone' if you like army surplus. A highlight with our son every time we visit PTown.

This place is ridiculous, it smells funny, and is packed floor-to-ceiling with the most random selection of items available. Usually any one of these traits in a retail store would send me running. Yet, oddly quite the opposite is true at Marine Specialties. As you can see from other reviews - the selection of odds and ends is vast. You can buy a pair ripped designer jeans, a military issue gas-mask, a petrified starfish, and an antique Russian lunchbox without venturing past the first 20 feet. It truly is a treasure trove of miscellany - proving that one person's junk may be the next's treasure (or at least worth a good giggle while browsing). My recommendation: Hit Marine Specialties after a cocktail or three. Good browsing and more often than not buying fun.

Always feels dirty and smelly...but I love it and always go to look around. Can always find something cheap that you have no need for.

This is probably the best army-navy store I have ever been to. I usually walk into these stores expecting not to find anything I like, but I walked out of this one having bought two items. Either this place is absolutely awesome, or my judgment was influenced by the beers from earlier in the night. It's hard to tell sometimes.

My partner's favorite store in PTown. An eclectic mixture of the old and new. Even the dust of the ceiling artifacts is OLD. At Halloween, there is always some trinket or article of clothing that COULD become part of a costume. So if you go on All Hallows Weekend and realize "No costume", this is a great place to start. You'll squeeZe through tiny spaces to get to what you want to see sometimes, but that is part of the experience. So be careful some of you bears or we'll knock over a rack of raincoats!! Of course, someone in a wheelchair would have to be carried or flown around. But, come to think of it, there is so much on the ceiling, you probably could not fly either... Anything from used license plates to Betty Boop Candy lunchboxes or cruise ship dinnerware to rubber boots. They have what you NEED. I won't say it's cheap but most items are pretty reasonable. You must stop in before leaving town. PERFECT on a rainy day with 200 wet, tired people rummaging through... Enjoy

Amazing, you will find the most random amazing stuff you could imagine. State flags and flags from all over the world, gas masks, old airline uniforms, you can spend hours just walking around there-don't miss it!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Make this your first stop in P-Town. Anything you could want, you will find here and it'll be cheap!!! I had been looking for a pair of brown flats forever. Just regular old brown flats - I searched high and low. Online and offline. And you know where I found them!? MARINE SPECIALTIES! You never know what you're going to find here. Other items they feature are home decor, converse all stars, retro lunch boxes, asian printed clutches, jewelry, candles, TONS of clothing, belts and of course military clothes, pins and knives. Adorable place. Gets really packed with people and its crowded with merchandise. Its the next best thing to a thrift store in P-Town.

This store is SO random! I love it! The price is right too. I bought two belts for 2.75 each. Beat that Chinatown!!! There's so much going on that my ADD couldn't handle it. Gas masks? Check? French military excerise track jackets? Check. UK bobby hats? Check. Courdroy jeans? Check. Plates, Glassware? Check. What doesn't this place have?! Me likey here so much!

They do have a totally cool selection of t-shirts and sweatshirts so if you are dying to buy a souvenir, you would definitely find someone interesting here to bring home.
