The Best Hotels in Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada - AFAR

"Named a UNESCO World Heritage site as “the best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement in North America.” Close to all the town’s attractions, the inn—a charming clapboard house built in 1830—has three guest rooms and two suites, plus nine nautically decorated accommodations in two nearby buildings. Continental breakfast is included in your stay, and there’s even an exercise room." - Barbara Peck

Cozy historic inn and old decor, but newly renovated bathrooms. The common area felt a bit run down with dirty carpets, but the room itself was good. Very warm when we got in and there is at least one window overlooking the street. Our room has a creepy old portrait of a boy so we had to take the down before sleeping lest we wake up in the middle of the night and see him looking back at us. Front door is locked after 5 pm so make sure to check in before then. Simple breakfast of bagels, bread, fruits, juices, cereals, and cuts of meats and cheeses are provided. Parking available out front. Be aware of steep stairs leading up to the living suites. Inn is old so you can definitely hear people walking around.

It was a unique experience to stay in a home from 1830! The service was excellent and included use of the sitting room, dining room, and patio. There were Swiss chocolates and snacks (fruit/coffee) available at all times for no charge. The room fridge had a loaded mini-bar with decent pricing as well. Awesome inn. It's for sale currently, so if you want to stay here do it while it's still possible!

We stayed here July 16 at the Cranberry Suites. It was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room has been completely upgraded and is brand new inside. We were well impressed with the breakfast - fresh baked goods were fabulous and the baker was very friendly and pleasant to talk with. Scones and fresh muffins were especially good. Everything about it was exceptional. Location is excellent right in the heart of Lunenberg so we could walk to most of what we wanted to see easily. Prices were very fair and we highly recommend it.

Would HIGHLY recommend! The perfect place to enjoy a relaxing, pampering, and charming getaway. The top floor suite that we had was absolutely amazing. This historic building transports you to a romantic time that has been “updated” with today’s amenities and comforts. The wonderful and helpful staff is attentive to every detail and always there to greet you with a smile & positive words. Even with hurricane Fiona, the staff took every effort to ensure no disruption during our stay, with bottled water, candles, etc. And they followed up with every question we had. The amazing building is in the perfect spot for enjoying beautiful Lunenburg . The upper suite has a delightful deck to enjoy the view with some wine & cheese, or a cup of coffee. The claw foot tub is amazing for a soak at the end of a day of sightseeing. The king size bed & lush bedding envelopes you in luxury and the breakfast buffet, in the glass sunroom, is a spectacular start to the day. We would absolutely recommend the Mariner King Inn to anyone planning a visit to spectacular Lunenburg!

such a beautiful hotel. one of our party has mobility issues and our room and facilities were ideal. Walk-in shower, tall toilet, disabled parking and an elevator. To boot, the room was extremely comfortable and decked out with many thoughtful elements, more than many other hotels and inns. exceptional location. laundry, parlour, sunny conservatory for the breakfast which is included.

The room was spacious, modern, well appointed and comfortable, with mini-bar, free wireless. The breakfast was European style with meat, cheese, fish, fruits, breads buffet type items in the morning. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They have a DVD player built into the TV with a DVD library in the lobby. Free parking. We would definitely stay there again if we go to Lunenburg.

Four stars for the inn, zero stars for Lunenberg itself — hard to get to and completely overwhelmed by tourists all looking for something to do. And let's be honest here, there's nothing to do. If quaint is your thing you might have a good time — our top floor room at least had air conditioning, but it required a Herculean effort to get our bags up the narrow stairs. And once there I was constantly banging my head on the low ceilings. Staff was friendly, breakfast spread needed something sweet.

My wife and I stayed in the Honeymoon Suite for 4 nights during our honeymoon and cannot say enough positive things about the Mariner King Inn. We ended up checking in after hours but they left plenty of communication to help us get settled into our room. The Honeymoon Suite itself was incredibly spacious and very romantic. Seeing pictures online, I was a little concerned the ceilings would be kind of low but they were plenty high for myself (I am 6 ft 2 in tall). The bathroom was clean and spacious with both a shower and a bathtub. The room had 2 sitting areas in addition to a private deck. And lastly, the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on. The breakfast provided each morning was kind of small but everything was good quality; we particularly enjoyed the nicely brewed coffee. Another great thing about the Inn is it is located right in the heart of Lunenburg with lots of good restaurants, cafes, and attractions within a very short walking distance. I can't recommend the Mariner King Inn enough. My wife and I have already discussed coming back for another visit sometime on an anniversary.

Yelp
Visited Lunenburg from the US. When we arrived at the Mariner King we were pleasantly surprised by the classic design of the lobby and reception area. The receptionist was hospitable and friendly. He provided us with a list of businesses in the area that would be good for a bite to eat or drinks. When he showed us to our room in the Cranberry Suites he informed us that he upgraded our room prior to our arrival. Excellent service, immaculately clean rooms. I would recommend The Mariner King without hesitation.

Yelp
We only stayed one night in the Cranberry suites, but we had a fantastic time! Each room looks different but are all decorated similarly. Our suites were very quaint and east coast-like. The beds were very comfortable and they even included complementary chocolates which were a nice treat. There were two TVs, one in the bedroom and one in the living area. They also had a fireplace in the bedroom and in the living area as well as a stereo alarm clock. We went to the continental breakfast in the morning which we really enjoyed. There was a nice selection of simple breakfast foods such as smoked salmon, cheese, toast with jams, muffins etc. You should definitely check this place out if you're looking to stay in Lunenburg.

Yelp
What a great place to stay and brunch! It is a lovely old house on the main street of Lunenburg. It has a fantastic balance of old and new: - lovely antique furniture, floor coverings, exquisite old light fixtures, etc. - exercise room, high speed internet, business centre, flat screen TV + DVD player in the room. We were blown away by the small touches as the modern stemware in the rooms, updated bathrooms and complementary chocolates on the bed. The bed was a dream to sleep on, once the pillows were cleared and stacked in the corner:-) Nice light cozy comforter on the bed. Now for breakfast - simply fantastic! Cold buffet with solomon gundy, smoked salmon, cheeses, etc.. A bread stack that included fresh from the oven croissants. We went with the a la carte eggs benedict - and don't let them give you the back bacon - go for the smoked salmon option - yummmmmm!!! We will definitely be going back. The question is only whether it will be another mid-winter, off season fantastically priced get-away or a full priced mid-summer Lunenburg folk festival week? Not to be missed!

Yelp
Great location and great facility in a great town. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. Friendly, helpful staff; nice European-style buffet breakfast. On-street parking wasn't difficult to find and inexpensive compared to big city prices. The only downside: we booked a 'petite queen' room which was pretty tight. Next time we'll choose a larger room.

Yelp
Great place to stay! Very friendly staff, comfortable beds and in a great location. Parking was a bit of a challenge but all in all a great stay!

Yelp
On my last visit, I thought the manager was very displeasing. Although the room was clean and the breakfast was well-put together. When i was waiting to checkout, I overheard the manger speaking to the receptionist very crudely. Great service, but the main goal should be kindness to your employees!

Yelp
On a very prominent street in Lunenburg sits the most luxurious Inn of Lunenburg. On our honeymoon night, we spent the night in the Penthouse with its own deck, softest sheets and sitting room. It overlooked the harbor and the going ons of Lunenburg. Not the only incredible place to stay for your duration, but one of the very best for sure.

Yelp
My parents and I visited Lunenburg during the last week of the tourist season in October. We all fell in love with the town and The Mariner King. We arrived in town without a hotel reservation and ended up here after trying another place around the corner that was a little over our budget. Margaret (?) was working the front desk when I we arrived and she was so friendly and helpful. She showed us to our room down the block in the Candy Apple building. The two-level suite was amazing! The bathroom was enormous and luxurious in the style of a four star resort. Quite frankly, I was shocked to find it in a little inn. The beds were the most comfortable I've slept in in a hotel in a loooong time, if not ever. The owners have invested far more than they probably had to in this place. And I can't forget about the delicious breakfast that was included! I probably didn't need to eat my weight in lox and cheeses, but they looked so lovely laid out on that table and I just couldn't resist. If I ever make it back up to Nova Scotia, I will be making a trip to Lunenburg and staying at The Mariner King!

Yelp
This is a really nice little hotel in downtown Lunenburg (a town that is ridiculously picturesque). The rooms are clean and spacious, with updated bathrooms, comfortable beds, and crisp white sheets. We slept in late and missed the breakfast the first couple of days we were there. Don't make the same mistake! The breakfast that they provide is really good---yogurt, smoked salmon, pickled eggs and condiments, fruit, and some outstanding homemade scones (I emailed them later and they were even kind enough to give me the recipe. Really kind folks). We'd definitely stay here again.
