Marion Street Eatery is one of those places you'd go straight on by if you didn't look amazingly hard for it, and when you did go by it, you'd never think twice about it. Why do I say that? Because we did, twice actually. And the fact it's located in a run down motel that looks like a place you'd see Patrick Swayze playing a bouncer at might also lend me to thinking that.
Anyway, on the third pass, and stopping in a parking lot across from where my GPS said it was, I finally spotted this place and we swung in. Very nice little patio out front, but, we were hanging out inside on this morning.
Awesome service, can't say enough about how good the service was here. We get our menu's which, for a weekday breakfast, seemed to be paired down quite a bit from what the online menu showed. Either way, the items we wanted were on there, the woman rolling with a banana caramel pancakes, we split a grilled cinnamon bun, and I go with the Lumberjack. Essentially everything on the breakfast menu thrown onto one plate (hash, sausage, ham, bacon, 3 eggs and 3 pieces of toast).
Little wait which gave us a chance to go through the decor - very western style saloon with awesome woodwork and their awards shown near the front.
After about 8-10 minutes, out comes the food.
The meh: grilled cinnamon roll. I was interested to see what this was about, and it fell flat as the surface it was grilled on. It is a dried out, cut in half cinnamon roll that hits the flat top. It then comes out dried and crispy. Really needs to have an icing, or sauce added to help with the texture and taste, which is really lost when the bun hits the grill. Great idea, needs refinement and addition.
The good: My breakfast. Everything about it was a solid 4/5. Bacon was a bit disappointing, but the ham and sausage link - which was cut in half and grilled instead of deep fried - were damn tasty. I loved the toast too, which was a very grainy wheat bread. Eggs were done perfectly, and the hash was very solid.
The outstanding: Pancakes. I'm hard pressed to get my big ass in the car and drive back just for these. Talk about PERFECT. Cakes were fluffy, light and had amazing flavor on their own. Then, the bananas and caramel sauce is like the nectar of the gods on these spongy little creations! And just when you think it's not gonna get better... there is the light, sweet, fresh creme on the side that you throw on this. I was about to kick the woman away from the table, steal these, and run down the street like an escaped mental patient, but, I held it together.
Overall, don't let the location fool you, its worth a check. Would be a 5 if the cinnamon roll were better and my bacon wasn't crisp to a brittle point.
