Would you pay $165 for dressed up carrots? Well, we did, and we felt it was not a good value. I would rate the service as 5. The presentation as 5. But the value of the ingredients was 1. The Serrano ham should have been Iberico, salmon roe should have been Osetra. And I could not eat Waguy beef because I am a pescatarian and instead got a plate of carrots made four different ways. I appreciate the creativity of the chef but a carrot is still a carrot if you fry or roast it and is not an expensive ingredient. The chocolate dessert was excellent but the Pavlova was so so. We chose $175 per person wine pairing and got mediocre selection. I would not call a person who selected those wines a sommelier. The restaurant was half full. I guess not to many people are willing to shell out fortunes for mediocre meals. I have rated restaurants professionally and I have dined at many Michelin restaurants, this was definitely neither.

Let me save you some time - DO NOT COME HERE. Food and service were both terrible. We came for a prix fix New Years Eve dinner. The food was mediocre at best and inedible at worst. There was something seriously wrong with the Foie Gras. The wine pairing really didn't "pair" well at all and the selection wasn't anything at all special. The champagne was probably the only good one. The service was relatively attentive I suppose, but the "sommelier" described every single wine as "fruity" and seemed like he hated wine, his life, or both. The staff never asked why none of us had eaten many of the courses (they were bad!) and just generally couldn't have been any less friendly or personable, despite being weirdly ever-present. Based on other reviews I thought maybe this place was just expensive and folks thought it wasn't a good value, but it's Park City and everything is expensive. That's not it. It is just bad. Don't come.

Was exited they had a vegan menu! Soup and cauliflower were both excellent. Not the typical ambience I would go for (lodge, old school) but food and service were both great.

Google
Was nice overall. They’re very strict about seating you at your reservation time. Very convenient to the underground parking garage if you are driving there and not staying on Deer Valley. French onion soup was pretty standard. Bread pops were good, fluffy, soft, but were definitely just croissant rolls and not “bread.” Wagyu steak was really good. It was smoky and tender. Got it medium rare. Came with a small small small salad. If you want actual sides, they are separate. Extensive wine list. Ambience is really nice, soft lighting. Bathroom is downstairs, where you go if you’re skiing, so not really convenient to the restaurant itself. Generally speaking, would probably not come here again, as the food is pretty standard, and not extraordinary really.

I had high hopes when we made reservations for Mariposa, having read rave reviews. Unfortunately, the nicest thing I can say was how underwhelming the entire experience was. Our waiter was so kind, but unfortunately seemed to have no training. We ordered drinks and waited for 20 minutes for them to arrive. As soon as the waiter delivered the drinks, we ordered our dinner (tasting menu at $125 person). Four courses took 2 hours to arrive and when they did they were cold, very small portions, and honestly not good. (The steak, wagyu filet, was covered in what tasted like Heinz 57 sauce.) The waiter offered to get the manager but by that point we were just ready to leave. The manager came to the table to say that he had great news… he was docking our bill 15%- for a dinner that was over $1000. I left dinner feeling as though we were robbed.

Google
A really great experience. The food is sourced both locally and internationally through a very curated list of perveyors. That means the best of everything. Had a small misstep in timing between the kitchen and our server that caused a bit if confusion. Otherwise, would be 5 star.

Google
The service is amazing. Shelley was on top of it all. The food was hit or miss depending on what you ordered. Having come here for over 20 years, and the reputation, I expected the food to still be up to par. We had the onion soup to start, which I thought tasted good. We then split the asparagus starter. The tomato confit or whatever that was with egg didn't pair very well, personally. Usually an asparagus with egg dish is a great pairing, but with this- the tomato tasted extremely bitter, and if there was egg, it must have been still in the hen. I would order something else. My husband and I each had the lamb shank. Mine was good, however his was very dry. We had the potatoes as a side and they were extremely sticky. This sticky-ness would have been good in their toffee treat at the end (which go ahead and make an appointment with your dentist in advanced), however, it seems they must have mixed up the recipes. I'm not really sure what's happening here, but I hope they get a new chef or fix some of the menu items. It has so much potential to be what it was, especially when the service staff is so great. I have always loved coming here and I will come back one more time in hopes of a better experience.

Some restaurants attain the dubious achievement of transitioning from outstanding, to lazy incompetence, to indifferent contempt for their customers. Mariposa has made this transformation in spectacular fashion. I’ve been coming to Mariposa for more than 20 years, and have had some truly phenomenal meals here. We would bring friends to the restaurant when they visited from out of town. Our experience tonight, though, is an example of how far and how fast an outstanding restaurant can go from great to truly awful. The highlights: the dining room is colder than a meat locker, so don’t check your coat; the caviar fries for 33 dollars are the same fries you’d get with a burger in the cafeteria with a gram of fish eggs; ours arrived cold. The ahi was so fishy it was inedible; the tasting menu is the same price as last year, with 3 courses instead of five (or seven) but portion size is still the same (so make a second reservation at another restaurant because you’ll still be hungry); there’s no wine pairing now, and the list of wines by the glass is meager. Our server who was very nice and trying hard had not been adequately trained. The busser was MIA. We raised our concerns with the manager, who was sympathetic but gave us the Ikon discount, and comped our bottle of water. With tip, we spent more than 200 per person, with one drink each. If you’ve enjoyed Mariposa in the past you’ll be blown away at how bad it’s become. If you’ve never been, you’ll be amazed that a restaurant experience at a place like Deer Valley could be so abysmal. It’s a bit sad to acknowledge that I won’t be coming back after having been a fan for so long.

Yelp
Was in deer valley for Sundance. Grabbed a reservation here last minute. Incredible service and food. Tylla was fantastic. Thanks again!

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place for sometime and I'm glad I did. It was a great fine dining experience , food was good but really small plate that I wish they could do better overall this is a American restaurant.

Yelp
Last year I would have given 5 stars. We shared a 24 ounce waygu tomahawk for $250. There was no sear or crust to the steak. I don't even think they used salt and pepper. We ordered it medium and it was obviously rare. The whipped potato dish was oddly sticky and not at all flavorful. The onion soup unremarkable. The kale Caesar salad was a Caesar salad made with kale, which sounds kind of good until you taste it and realize it would have been 10x better with romaine. The service and ambiance spoke for themselves. I spoke to the manager about how disappointing the food was. He told us that we weren't alone and that they get complaints every night. The bill with tip was $540 for 2 people. It was our worst dining experience in memory. Shockingly bad food. Stay away.

Yelp
Unbelievable food and service. Chelle was our awesome server. She has been serving at Deer Valley for decades and is always one of the best. Perfect way to celebrate Valentines day or any other special occasion! Bonnie concocted a delicious prosecco cocktail to start off the meal. FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
What a lovely evening at Maripisa. We Haag an 8;30pm searing so we enjoyed a leisurely meal as the dining area cleared out for the night. Our server Samantha was a delight who kept the meal moving without moving without rushing us. We brought our own wine ($20/bottle corkage) which helped lower our bill but don't expect an inexpensive meal! Samantha started us with a small tart from thee chef which was a fun bite to start. The shining stars of the evening were thee appetizers. The scallops with Carmel are to die for and the burrata was fresh and delicious. We each selected a different meat for our main. The only reason this meal gets 4 stars is the quality of the meat cuts. The NY was not the best cut and flavor wasn't top shelf - don't get me wrong, it was eaten it just wasn't perfect. The fries with the steak were delightful. The pasta dish with elk was interesting but missing some umami. The fresh truffles were a fun touch but didn't highlight an ny of the flavors. The short rib took the prize for best cut of meat. Tender and melt in your mouth. Of the desserts the panna cotta & cheesecake were winners. The chocolate tasting was good but not our favorite. Samantha brought us chocolates at the end of the meal that were amazing. Overall - totally recommend this restaurant. Just be aware your bill can easily be $500+ which is absolutely expected for Park City fine dining! My only wish is that each of the meats had been more on point.

Yelp
This place was phenomenal! Their 8 course tasting menu was an experience of fine dining that I didn't know I needed. The most attentive staff, the personalized menus, a romantic ambiance and the incredible food. I will be coming back here every 4 weeks to try their new tasting course because it's on rotation and I dare not miss out. Definitely worth the hype and price point.

Sara M.

Yelp
Unfortunately, I was disappointed with Mariposa this time around. I was hoping to do the 6-8 course tasting menu like I have been doing the past 4 years. Apparently, they aren't doing that anymore and replaced it with a chefs tasting menu. It was SO disappointing. It is NOTHING like the experience of the 6 to 8 course tasting menu. All it is is the cheapest items on the menu, nothing special at all. Would have never made a reservation or considered coming here if we knew that original tasting menu would not be offered.

Yelp
Amazing experience. Shelly was the best server and her support team are friendly and attentive. Wine pairing was more than worth it. Manager Jared was very professional and kind.

Yelp
I agree with the folks that called this a special occasion restaurant. It's extremely pricey, and they do that stupid small plate thing where everything costs $20 and is only a few bites each. We ate here our first night in town, and really enjoyed it, but after going to Riverhorse and Mustang, it's just not even comparable for the price and the quality. You should order about 3 small plates per person, which is great if you don't want to commit to one thing. But not great for your wallet. I should say, the restaurant is lovely. So cozy, and the service is very nice. And the food is good! I had the Diver Scallop Tiradito (good, raw scallops, lots of flavor), the Buratta, Fresh Basil and Heirloom Cherry Tomato Salad (Very delicious), and the Quail Saltimbocca (small, but very good). I also tried the gnocchi, which melts in your mouth like pillows of goodness. We also had a very chocolatey dessert, which was awesome. Very good, but I'd just look around before you commit to this place.

Yelp
My family used to live this charming alpine fine dining restaurant in Deer Valley. But, our most recent 6 course tasting dinner there last week was horrible. Not one dish was tasty! The food was bland, and the chef tried to make up for the lack of skill by smearing a tiny bit of sauce in the edge of the dishes, giving all the plates the look that they hadn't been washed. 4 of us had the 6 course regular menu and one had the 6 course vegetarian. The chef's lion's mane mushroom dish was watery and bland. The butternut squash gnocchi was equally bland with no sauce or cheese... tasted starchy! Even thé dessert bombed in the flavor department... a floury mild chocolate mini flourless hockey puck. Never will we return!!

Yelp
We had high hopes for a restaurant which boasts such high reviews, but after a lengthy 3 course meal (+dessert) I felt mildly disappointed (and still hungry). The food was excellent though small portioned, the wine pairings were delicious, and the service was at times superb and at other times unsatisfactory. I know we are at a ski resort, but it would be nice if they would seat on time for reservations and enforce their dress code. There was a large table of guys next to us who were wearing jeans and backwards ball caps.

Yelp
My husband and I had a 5:30 reservation and enjoyed it. He had originally made the reservation for the 8 courses but they decided to only do 6 courses - which was plenty - we were full but not too full. Our server, Sofia was lovely, the other staff seemed nice. The food came out pretty quickly. I personally would come again. It's not cheap but a fun experience.

Keaton M.

Yelp
The eight-course tasting was perfectly curated and the wine pairings were spot on. The elk with butternut squash was remarkable, you have to try it. Shelly was personable and had a great knowledge of the menu and wines. I'd highly recommend the tasting and pairing - we will definitely be back!

Yelp
We had a lovely meal here last month. While the bison tartare was a great starter, I got out ordered by my son with the foie gras waffles. Talk about a great twist on a classic. This was excellent. For mains we had the bison filet and elk pasta. The pasta was a good portion and quite tasty while you can never go wrong with a bison filet. The desserts were interesting and we had the chocolate snowball, creme de la creme and sangria sorbet. Overall it was a really nice dinner

Matthew P.

Yelp
The food was great. The ambiance was fantastic. The service was absolutely phenomenal.

Julie K.

Yelp
The service was absolutely impeccable. Probably some of the best we've had in a restaurant. Tuna tartare was absolutely delicious. The elk and mushroom pasta was so-so. It had an Asian taste and there was definitely nothing in the description that would you lead to think that's what you were getting. Duck fat fries were fantastic. Sticky toffee pudding was good. Order a scoop of vanilla ice cream to go with it. The prices were not as high as previous reviews indicated so they may have changed their menu structure.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant for the first time on a Sunday and it was PHENOMENAL. First off, I have never received amazing service like this in my life. So welcoming, comforting, professional, respectful, and they really make sure your needs are met. Not once did I think "where are they" or "I need more water" because they are so organized and on top of it. Highly suggest the 8 course meAl because I can't even describe how delicious and different each course was. These people really do make you feel like you ARE their priority and they care so much. Will be back again and I am going to suggest this place to my foodies!

Dan B.

Yelp
This is my first-ever yelp review, and I only write it to address comments made in previous reviews concerning the tomatoes that adorn Mariposa's burrata salad. These were some of the best-tasting tomatoes I have eaten in recent memory and they were a highlight of my trip to Deer Valley. To the extent a prior review provides anything but the most favorable assessment of these tomatoes, such a slanderous review should be viewed with the utmost skepticism. Excellent meal all around.

Yelp
A solid 3 stars. And PSA: Mariposa now offers a separate vegetarian menu with vegan options! #winning! We've been here half a dozen times, and it's gotten better over that time. We've had some mediocre experiences and meals here in the past, but the chef has put a lot of thought into the new menu. In 2015 or so, the menu shifted from full entree sizes to small tasting bites that were more or less the same price. We're glad that it's shifted back to fuller portions! 2-3 plates is more than enough for one person, but it does add up fast. The good: Full portion sizes are back on the menu at the old prices. Vegan menu now offered. Ambiance is romantic and warm, and the service is outstanding. The eggless vegan linguine with vegetables is amazing...do it! Fresh ingredients. The bad: Some items have been on the menu for decades (HELLO, I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU, WILD MUSHROOM BEGGAR'S PURSE!) and the food just doesn't seem that innovative. Because a lot of their customers come back each winter, it'd be nice to see more newer dishes alongside just a few familiar favorites. Otherwise it just gets boring. Also, it's just super overpriced for what it is. It's almost comical how much the wine is marked up. And there's quite the maze to find the upstairs bathroom (and the cafeteria-like upstairs looks like it's straight out of the set from The Shining). Staff is weird about substitutions. Bottom line: It's DV, so we expect these prices. But we can have much better food at wine at far lower prices in Seattle or even in NY. It's a fine choice for vacation, but understand that it's marked up because of the location (and not because the food or experience is so much better than less expensive places).

Yelp
This place is a shadow of its former glory. I've been eating here with friends and family for years and even though it's always been pricey it has always been worth it. I'm not sure if they are l under new ownership or have a new chef, but to say that I was underwhelmed would be putting it nicely. First of all we were sat and then waited for service for close to 30 minutes. After that, Just looking at the menu my heart was already breaking because I realized they had taken off most of my favorite dishes (most notably the foie gras and waffles). The bourbon list which used to be respectable was next to nothing and their amazing walnut old fashioned was replaced by a regular old fashioned featuring Basil Hayden's bourbon which barely counts as bourbon in my book lol. The foie gras on my elk pasta was under and so was the pasta. We ordered some Burrata which was great by itself but it had these awful stewed tomatoes with it that were basically inedible. Overall the food was not bad but not for 150$ per person. I am a serious foodie and have no problem dropping that kind of money on a great meal. This place used to be amazing. It pains me to say this but spend your money elsewhere :'(

Yelp
This experience was lovely. All of the food was quite delicious and even items that I thought I wouldn't like, I did. They recommend choosing 3 to 4 plates each which ended up being just the right amount of food to share and taste. The gnocchi and bison were the favorites of the night, and the beggars purse. They already have designated wine pairings which did not blow me away. I appreciate that they make their pastries, bread and cheeses on site, so we ordered the cheese plate before dessert. All of the cheeses were very dull and I wish they had more inventive accompaniments. We tried their pear dessert, and it was certainly technical. The best part was their almond treat they brought out at the end. By then, I felt like I would pop so I shared. This is a great fine dining experience if you're planning a trip to Park City/Deer Valley. Make sure you make a reservation and confirm it. There was an issue with open table.

Yelp
Mariposa fancies itself a fine dining experience, but sadly fails in service, food raw ingredient quality, and chef skills. Worse, management doesn't seem to care. While I don't expect Restaurant Joël Robuchon quality, I at least expect Restaurant Michael Mina service level. We were disappointed. The wait staff is quite junior and inexperienced. I believe they mean well, but they have not been properly trained and they are not properly managed on the floor to perform at peak levels. Our waiter disappeared for over an hour between our first course and our main course. We had to flag down random people to refresh our water glasses several times, and ask for more bread as the main courses were delayed. When we finally got our waiter's attention by quite literally yelling his name across the restaurant (something I've never, ever had to do anywhere) to inquire about our main courses, as it had been over 65 minutes since we finished our prior course, the waiter apologized, of course, and blamed a large party that had come in. "So, you're telling us we are lower priority than they are?" I replied. He said he would send over his manager, but even that didn't materialize. When our main courses arrived, they clearly were not dry aged steaks as advertised. We had to flag someone to bring us steak knives. The steak of one of us was so tough, even a steak knife was inadequate to cut it. I'm not exaggerating. He used his steak knife like a saw on a 2x4 piece of lumber. Another person's steak was mostly gristle. The roasted parsnip was almost raw -- I could barely penetrate it with a fork. Finally, we flagged the restaurant manager, whose business card lists him as Scott Myers, "Restaurant Operations Manager Mariposa". His response was -- and I'm not exaggerating -- "Well, sorry we disappointed you. I've taken care of the bill. I know you won't come back." It was as if he was telling us to leave and never return - that somehow we were problem customers. He did take care of the bill - but not the round of drinks. On a positive note, the appetizers and desert were good.

Yelp
Wow! This really is a world class restaurant. We stumbled on this place by accident, and are so happy we did. The concept of the place is make your own chef's tasting menu, which leads to small plates high end European fusion, so all plates are smallish. All which leads to about 4-5 plates per person, and easily reaching the $$$$ category. Some of the highlights are the foie grass (was in the specials), the sea scallop, Maine lobster bisque, and the bacon soufflé. While I personally am not that big on desserts, the cherry chocolate soufflé was amazing.

Yelp
As my sweet tooth has gained notoriety, I feel I have a great responsibility to steer you all in the right direction for your sugar cravings! haha :) I'm often asked where the best dessert I've had in my life was. Without a second thought I can quickly answer Mariposa!! Park city, and Deer Valley are like an overpriced brothel full of mediocre restaurants. In fact prior to finding Mariposa, I'd all but given up hope of having a great meal in this town. It's fitting then that Chef Clark Norris' restaurant is tucked away on the tip top of Deer Valley, way off the beaten path. You have to traverse up a long, winding, icy road via four wheel drive vehicle just to reach this Jewel. His menu centers around seafood and game, although he also offers a vegetarian tasting menu. We started with the Dungeness Crab served over top avocado, and surrounded by beautifully drizzled (alblore sashimi shaped) wasabi, and ginger sauces. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/x36Y20Vcpw2qp6YHE4fD-A?select=cKZmaVXWaKin9cYBRP32aQ The wasabi ginger sauce has an intense kick that gives the buttery salty crab, and creamy avocado an explosive flavor as it hits your tongue. My dad is an avid seafood lover, but don't mess with him on how he likes his fish cooked (well done please!) I once watched a waiter try to talk him into getting his salmon rare, it was comical he is set in his ways. I like my seafood raw to medium, opposite of dear old dad. It took a great deal of convincing on the part of the waiter that NO sablefish was not going to kill him, and yes it was going to be delicious, and yes they would cook it right. He prefers his east coast tried and true staples, such as tuna, crab, and cod. Upon the waiters recommendation we both the same thing http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/x36Y20Vcpw2qp6YHE4fD-A?select=4oiepGfM12DJBjYGIene1w (Photo by Joan M.) I can't remember what my mom ordered... Mariposas Sablefish is oh so light and flakey!!! Laid gently over Porcini mushrooms, and a juicy scallion rice cake sitting in a small pool of honey tamari ginger glaze! It's flavor can best be described as radiantly savory. My dad and I just looked at each other smiling ear to ear with each bite. Mine was medium, his was as he'd asked well done, we were in food-gasmic heaven. You know I have a sweet-tooth, what you don't know is it comes from my dear old dad, not my mom! His sweet tooth is not as broad and far reaching as mine. However put him in front of a truck full of flour-less chocolate cake or dense chocolate mouse, and he will turn into a rabid chocolate eating monster! We were unoriginal and ordered the same dessert letting out manly moans, as we thought about the rich flavor that would soon be sending us to chocolate bliss. My mom sighed and went for the Banana Brûlée Tart praline rum ice cream, nutella truffle! But hey!!! Like father like son right! ENTER wait for it.............The BEST DESSERT of my life! Yes I said BEST. Take a look at this picture http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/x36Y20Vcpw2qp6YHE4fD-A?select=1qqRZJtr9fDyjK7DVatG0w and Joan M's PIc http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/x36Y20Vcpw2qp6YHE4fD-A?select=VrukOEaAAAxs8ZEjzaQHxw It's a Chocolate Snowball, and it's oh so bitter, and sweet, and creamy, and dense, and delicious. Words can not describe how freaking badass this dessert is! If I had to die with one bite in my mouth I would choose a spoonful of Mariposas Chocolate Snowball. My mom's Nuttela Truffle was almost as good but the chocolate snowball mmmmmmaahhhhhh~mmmmm! Plan on paying about 80-120 PP at Mariposa for 3 courses without wine, but you will love every single bite that enters your mouth. The only downside to Mariposa is they are only open during ski season.

Yelp
Come here if you: -Are a gourmand -Like warm ambiance -Eat game meat -Appreciate impeccable service -Are from California and yearning for seared foie gras Speaking of foie gras, it came sizzling hot with sauteed apples on brioche. The last bite was devastating as it wasn't nearly enough to tide me over until my next trip out of California. Luckily, I was able to get another taste with my exquisite bison filet, which came with a small piece of foie on top. Other noteworthy dishes: Pan-roasted Sea Scallop and Caramelized Onion and Gruyére Tart.

Yelp
#300 Review There is no doubt that the Mariposa is the best restaurant in/near Park City. This adorable two-level cabin style restaurant was #1 on my restaurant list. I am really surprised that no one has reviewed Mariposa as it has the highest Zagat rating in the area... Making reservation was a little tough as you are required to give out your credit card info and if you flaked or didn't cancel within 48 hours, you'll be charged $50/person (yikes!)...and the restaurant is only open from Tuesday - Sundays from 5:45p-9pm during ski season. After a long week of dealing with bitches and assholes, I treated myself to dinner at the Mariposa right before watching an 8pm flick. I made reservation for 2 the same day and luckily they didn't charge me $50 when my colleague couldn't make it. The restaurant was tricky to find in the pitch black night (it gets pretty dark at 6pm). Once you passed the driveway to the Stein Ericksen Lodge, there's a parking lot to your right for the Silver Lake Lodge; I'm pretty sure parking is gratis (I didn't get a ticket but someone did hit me. If you're renting a car, always get full coverage). You will see a stupid map (only lists what stores are there but doesn't tell you WHERE the stores are...) to the right in front of the "strip mall" and basically the Mariposa is straight down. When you enter the restaurant, you are automatically greeted by (3) soft-spoken polite people, and to your right, a gentleman offers to take your coat. I waited for 7 minutes as they re-set my table for one...hmm...at least I was sitting in front a nice warm fire. As the hostess guided me to my table, I noticed all the empty tables, wondering why Mariposa told me that they were fully booked for the evening...they seated me at a four-top table but removed the (2) chairs in front of me...as to scream to everyone that I was dining by myself...er, they should really just leave the chairs there with no place settings. I started with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc (good, had a sparkling taste...) for $8. Their wine's price list is reasonable. The chef's complimentary amuse bouche was Tuna Tartar (very good & very tiny) (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/x36Y20Vcpw2qp6YHE4fD-A?select=6QuAEGCI6IhxPBeD4RXE9w). I went for the Warm Vidalia Onion crusted Goat Cheese & Roasted Baby Beet Salad (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/x36Y20Vcpw2qp6YHE4fD-A?select=OhD-NizVZNQkBZMuF_yNZg) as my appetizer for $15. It was delicious; I really liked the crusted Goat Cheese. The portion is very small or perfect -- slightly bigger than my fist. I was starting to think that the restaurant was not as expensive as I had thought, but oh wait! The entrée prices are from $37 to $49! Yeah...that's where it hurts...I really wanted to try the Seared Natural Bison Filets but didn't -not because it costs $49, but it came with Foie Gras and Yam -yuck. My waitress, Stephanie recommended the Sablefish Mariposa (honey tamari glaze, fresh ginger sauce, shiitake mushroom~scallion rice cake) (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/x36Y20Vcpw2qp6YHE4fD-A?select=4oiepGfM12DJBjYGIene1w) and WOW, the fish just melts in your mouth and I loved the rice cake with shiitake mushroom. Luckily, the ginger in the sauce wasn't over powering. Like the Beet Salad, the portion is small, but at least it allowed me to have room for dessert. Lastly, I finished my meal with the $9 Yummalicious Chocolate Snowball (a dense, bittersweet chocolate cake with whipped cream) and a cup of coffee ($3.50, not the ridiculous $9 Glitretind coffee): http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/x36Y20Vcpw2qp6YHE4fD-A?select=VrukOEaAAAxs8ZEjzaQHxw How cute! If I had to pick on something, it would be that they didn't wipe the breadcrumbs off the table after the main course. Despite the breadcrumbs, service was excellent. Oh and like I said they shouldn't make it so obvious when people are dining alone. My meal came out to almost $100 including tips, and had I more time I would have definitely opted for their tasting menus-- prices start off around $75. Mariposa is a must!

Yelp
We came here for New Years dinner and were quite unimpressed with the food. While the service was great, the food didn't meet our expectations at all. The restaurant has a ski lodge feel, more casual than dressy or elegant. First, the menu was pre-fix so we knew it was already going to get expensive but we figured given the reviews we'd have a great dinner and ring in the new year. We made the reservations for 9pm, hoping it would stretch out for a while, but the place emptied out by 10:30. The dishes were very simple, not really elegant or complex and felt like things we could make at home. We had a crab salad, buratta, onion tart, elk steak, lamb and some crepe dessert. I expected a much higher level of food and flavor, even the plating was a bit amateur. Our bill came to $350 and we had much better food in town and better experiences.

Yelp
This is hands down the best restaurant in Park City. Yes it's pricey, but again, you get what you pay for and this place was fantastic. Please keep in mind that I am from Chicago, home of some of the best food in the country so me giving this 5 stars is a big deal. Service was outstanding. Our waiter was friendly and outgoing. Their oysters were from the West Coast and were delicious. Presentation was fantastic. Our waiter brought out spicy tuna from Chef Clark, and they were excellent and extremely fresh. I ordered the scallops and they were fantastic in taste and size. The Risotto was well cooked and seasoned and was out of this world. 3 people ordered the Mariposa special which is their sable fish. It was perfectly cooked, moist and very well seasoned. 2 people ordered the bison which was raved over. It wasn't dry. 1 person ordered the vegetarian tasting menu and overall he thought it was pretty good. The bill wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. $180/couple. It was well worth it though and I would recommend anyone to come here for a special occasion.

Yelp
Cons No one was at the reception The glass wine had dried water stain The wine did not taste fresh Server touched my fork with his bare hands The braised short rib did not have a taste The small bowl plates were really annoying due to the fact that I had to cut my food in a bowl Pros Place setting is good Ambience is setting is romantic Assistant servers are well attentive Waiter was very informative & attentive as well Amy, the manager stopped by to check on my table The 2 bite size of peas and carrots were good The parsnip mashed potato started to compliment the meal  The French pressed coffee was good I had the sweet potato tart for dessert and it was the highlight of my dinner In-between 3 varieties of bread tasted very well but was served at room temperature Both oysters were extremely small but tasted fresh as well as the wasabi but not the slice of lemon The scallops were extremely salty with the risotto but was cooked properly

Yelp
The food was incredible. We had the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. We will absolutely be back!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic. The lamb is exceptional, the strip steak is incredible, the elk pasta was unreal. Wonderful wine. But have to say, the service is what brought it all to an A+++. Our server Jon was not just knowledgeable but kind and interesting and of course very well versed in food and wine. We look forward to going back. What a treat!

Yelp
A recommendation receive on the lift yesterday, we came with high hopes and we're not disappointed! Julia, our waitress and fellow southerner, was top notch! Our cocktails were perfect, the oysters and Auhi tuna were delicious. We shared the elk/mushroom pasta; it was divine! The wine paring was perfect. Our dessert, creme de la creme, was the icing on a wonderful cake! Highly, highly recommend!!

Yelp
Get the QUAIL! A must. Now that I've said that....What an awesome dinner experience!! The food and service were exceptional. We were completely taken care of, %100 from the moment we sat down until we paid our bill. Our waiter was so helpful explaining everything to us and so attentive, yet not hovering over us. The table setting was so pretty, and then the food started coming out, one dish after another, each one was so different from the next and so good. Beautifully plated. We always had a drink and a plate in front of us. Each dish was so artfully done, such detail, contrast, lots of different items go into each dish producing the most amazing flavors, wow. My favorite was the quail. The breasts were tiny, two bites to each, the sauce over kale and mushrooms, amazing! Ate if before I could take a picture! The Dungeness crab was great too, so much crab! They make everything from scratch on site, like the cheeses and butter, and they smoke their own meats. Everything else they get fresh and local. One of the very best meals I've had, thanks you guys! I come to park city each year and will be back and next time maybe take my dad who is a very picky eater! Make reservations ahead of time.

Yelp
A romantic little restaurant with a glowing fireplace, wooden surroundings and a cozy vibe. My husband and I decided to get the tasting, which included the fried green tomato and ahi tuna appetizers, gnocchi side dish with truffle shavings, the lamb chop main dish, snowball and sorbet desserts. The ahi tuna was good, but it was sitting on top of a large piece of thick bread (which seemed a bit of overkill), and there was too much sea salt sprinkled on top. The gnocchi was delicious, but the added cost of the truffle shavings was definitely not worth it--they tasted like paper. It was disappointing. The lamb chop, I must say, was THE BEST lamb chop I've ever had in my life! Perfectly cooked. Not chewy. Not gamey. Absolutely amazing! I was looking forward to the famous snowball, but at the end of the day, it was just a ball of dense chocolate cake covered in whipped cream. It didn't wow me. However, the sorbet dessert was so interesting, with its finger limes and meringue dusted with chili--I can't remember the actual name, but it was great! Our service was 5 stars, as was the atmosphere and location. I just think their food is just a bit of a miss with a lot of hits!

Yelp
Great restaurant. We came here on 12/23/18, and had come a year ago. We had the bison, scallops, bone marrow, etc. Everything was wonderful and awesome service. Would definitely come back again

Yelp
We've been coming here for at least 20 years. Not many times, but enough to see the place over time. I like the current move to small plates rather than mostly multi course fussy food. Everything we had was pretty much perfect. It's still quite pricey. The service was excellent. The space perfect. Rather than just hand out superlatives, if you are looking for a special night, this place should be at the top of the list. It's a LOT better choice over some of the traditional places like Log Haven.

Yelp
We have been to the Mariposa three times before over the past 3 years. Every time we previously came the food was Unbelievable. We heard from our server that they had a new chef and new ownership when We Questioned why the menu was so different. The food tonight was mediocre and the menu was very limited. Both of us have queasy stomachs after dinner tonight. You lost loyal Customers tonight. We do not plan on coming back again.

Yelp
They missed the mark in every way. A 5 star restaurant that has the service and food quality of a 3 star at best. The food is ok. They try to do it fancy in this side "coat closet" of the silver lake lodge at deer valley. It starts with a stale amuse-bouche and they bring out the expensive wine menu that has an above average offering. They ignore most of the Utah liquor laws so you can enjoy the evening. Order your 3-5 course meal up front or as you go. And then the servers, even at a slow time of the night, disappear with three tables seeming to overwhelm them. Ordered a nice bottle of wine, a glass of bubbly and a cocktail. We poured our own wine all night. The food felt almost overly pre- prepared. Stale. The oysters were not fresh. The short rib was fall of the bone because it was almost entirely fat. The potatoes were almost impossible to cut or eat. Did offer a McDonald's French fry like flavor if you're looking for that in $400+ meal. It was like slicing through a thick stack of newspapers. And had the same texture. The bison filet was good. Enjoyed the mushroom beggars purse and the burratta was also good. The Creminelli Prosciutto & Butterleaf Salad was likely just out of season, but also random to the menus overall palate. Skipped dessert after being ignored for the evening and ready to go.

Yelp
Wow. But not in a good way. The food was so over-interpreted that everything tasted like hands. My wife and I looked at each other with each "small plate" delivered. Our thoughts were almost audible. "Are we in an SNL skit? Where's Kate?...I thought they said the small plates were slightly bigger than small??" To be fair, the sweet/salty brown butter ice cream was divine. That was the pilón from the pastry chef just before dessert. It was the size of a large marble but expected to be small. I told the waiter it was delicious. He mistook that to mean our entire experience had been sublime. Trust me, there was no correcting his perception. Once I made the statement, a Fabio-like head toss occurred and he became blissfully dissociated as the angels sang in the background. My wife returned to the table asking "why are you snapping your fingers?" The food was definitely no match for the pretense. This was a $350 disappointment. I still can't figure out why we were so amused as we left. Perhaps we were were the joke. My thumbs were not as amused.

Yelp
Ok, so this is a mixed review. This restaurant has changed to a small plate format, which can be a wonderful way to try different dishes. The problem is the price! My husband and I had a cheese plate, a scallop - yes one scallop, two oysters, one small cup of soup, one 3"slice of seared tuna, and desert. Drinks - one glass of wine and beer and one plain coffee. Price: ARE YOU READY? $230! ABSOLUTELY LUDICROUS! I don't care where you are, the restaurant is entirely over priced and eventhough the food is good it is not worth that!! There are a lot of great restaurants to go to in Park City and Deer Valley with amazing food and realistic prices. I guess here less truly is more! So disappointed. Don't go unless you have a LOT of money to waste!

Yelp
We dined here last year (March 2012) and loved it. It was absolutely amazing and we enjoyed our experience. The appetizers we had were tasty, the entres were amazing and the desert was great. 5 stars then. Our most recent experience (March 2013) was a different story. They changed their menu to small plates (charging more for less food) and you get to pick out multiple items and have them in flights. While all the food was tasty, I found the portions too small for the price, the food arrived in long intervals and it wasn't the experience I was looking forward to. 2 stars now. I love tasting menus, however I enjoy it much more when it's a chef that does the picking of the plates and the order they come in.

Yelp
So weird to have such high end dinner in such a casual environment, and on top of it in a ski lodge. I mean, lol you use same restroom while having dinner here as you do when you take a break during skiing lol the dress code is not only après ski casual, but super duper casual. One step above sweat pants. Wait staff was great as well. Can't remember any other restaurant where the staff is so knowledgable and clever to catch on to what you will like and be so totally easy going, yet professional. Very attentive (based on their replies and actions) with an easy going calm energy. Strange in a refreshing too good to be true way. Keep in mind that the restaurant is super quiet. Have to speak in a very low tone of voice. This made me uncomfortable initially because it made me assume no one was enjoying their food. Just a strange slightly awkward energy. Overlook it, it's not indicative of what you're about to taste. We ordered a bunch of plates we could all enjoy and that were noted in reviews here and on foursquare. The dishes were super creative and clearly very well thought out. Exciting flavors that work well together. But I must say, the purse everyone recommends with mushrooms was the worst dish. It photographed well, but that was about it. Flavor fades in comparison to all the other dishes. I'd definitely recommend ordering a few dishes as we did to share. The dishes are more or less cohesive so you leave feeling as if you had the tasting menu.

Yelp
There may not be much in Utah other than snow sports but there is The Mariposa! This place serves small dishes so you can try multiple dishes. This is a great concept if you have a pretty penny to spare. Each dish ranges from $16-$26 the waiter recommended 4-5 dishes if you are hungry. I say 3 dishes would be sufficient for the average person. If you are a hungry burly man you may want to order 5, these portions are not big. We ordered the: *Wild Mushroom Beggar's Purse *Niman Ranch Beef Short Rib *Quail Saltimbocca *Maine Lobster Chowder Each of these dishes were great but if you had to order one thing, order the Quail. Everyone at our table loved the creamy miso sauce that it was swimming in.

Yelp
We have been coming to Park City for probably 20 years, so how we managed to never try the Mariposa is beyond me. This is probably the best meal I have ever had in Park City, a town that isn't exactly lacking in good restaurants. The food is outstanding, the service was impeccable, and the location was beautiful (suspend your doubts about it being inside a ski lodge, you will forget within 5 minutes of sitting down). So let's talk food ... our waiter suggested we do a "tapas-style" sampling, which was a great suggestion so we could sample a wide range of the chef's art. So we had: - Diver scallop tiradito - sort of a scallop ceviche in a very light vinaigrette, the scallops practically melt on your tongue - The charcuterie platter, which came out with house-made duck prosciutto, mortadella, smoked sturgeon, and fionoccio salami, along with some house-made mustards and marmalades - Beggar's purse with mushroom and truffle brie - Lemon thyme gnocchi - incredibly light pillows of potato, some of the best gnocchi I have had in a very long time - Quail saltimbocca, a fun riff on the classic saltimbocca with quail breasts in place of the veal - Cheese soufflé Along with this, we had the wine pairing, which paired a specific wine with each dish. The chef (or the sommelier) did a wonderful job of choosing, although we did at the end add a few extra glasses just for excess. Finally, for dessert we split a hazelnut daquoise, with praline buttercream, salted caramel, chocolate mousse and hazelnut foam. Orgiastic! Now, be warned, this is not an inexpensive restaurant. In fact, this is probably the most I have ever spent on a meal in Park City (not a cheap city to being with), but it was really a wonderful evening, and we had no qualms paying the check at the end of the evening.

Yelp
TINY but TASTY in Deer Valley! Procuring a table at this highly sought after #1 Zagat rated Utah restaurant proved quite simple when compared to finding the restaurant itself! Be sure to get directions in advance and know where you are going! We had a late reservation and were lost. The hostess called to see where we were. After relating our woes and basically conceding we were close, but still lost, she talked us through the parking garage and up the steps. She greeted us from the porch with a friendly smile and a warm hello! We checked our coats and were escorted to our table. The restaurant was quite full for 9 pm. We were escorted to our private table upstairs. Our waitstaff was excellent, tending to our every need. Led by Alex from Romania, they did not miss a beat! The dining style behind Mariposa is a tasting menu. Between our party of 6, I think we may have tried everything on the menu! By far our favorite was the burrata cheese with heirloom tomatoes. It was served over arugula and drizzled with an amazing balsamic vinegar and oil. The Maine lobster chowder was divine - rich and delicious. All of the meat selections sampled by our party were prepared to perfection. I had the short rib and I highly recommend it. Dessert was a treat. The signature dessert is the Snowball. It is a MUST try! The wine selections were sufficient and unique. We tried a bottle of Altamura, followed by a Pio Cesare Barbaresco. Both delicious. All in all, we enjoyed a lovely evening out at The Mariposa. Kudos to the staff and chef for a job well done! Put this restaurant on your list next time you visit Deer Valley! Reserve a table in advance!
