Maritime Museum

So many cool old boats and motors! Beautiful old wooden boots were really stunning, and I really liked seeing the old waterfowl hunting boat and decoys. The local history of it all was of course extra interesting. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

I'm going to be honest. I have not experienced this museum; because it's only open on Sat. and Sunday for a limited number of hours. It WAS open on Wednesday, but there was a sign saying they weren't doing that. And there's no AM or PM on their door. You have to guess.

We only had half an hour there, but it was fascinating and well laid out. The curators were kind and knew a lot about the boats and the area. It is well worth the stop. It is free, but donations are accepted.

Pretty neat stuff. Super friendly, knowledgeable. Our boat club visited here while staying in town and had a great visit.

The folks here have created an outstanding experience for visitors Algonac. This is a must see particularly for people interested in the history of ships and boating.

Great place for boating trip down memory lane. They have Cris craft boats inside, outboard motors... Memrobila - fun place to visit...

On display in the museum is also a 1949 Chris-Craft 16 ft. Sportsman mahogany boat that was raffled at the annual Algonac Lions Pickerel Tournament in 1949. The Maritime Museum has many photos of World War II landing crafts that were built at Chris-Craft between 1942 and 1945. One of Gar Wood's last mahogany boats from the Marysville, MI plant when it closed in 1947 was named the Last Gar. Also on display is a Chris-Craft kit boat, built every year by students in a boat building class at the Algonac High School until 1960. If you like to see and touch boating history live this is the place to visit. Have a great gift shop.
