Google Map Menu showing wine, beer, grill, burger, miso etc are completely wrong! This is a specialty coffee shop with limited choices of croissant, definitely NOT hot food and alcohol. The single origin Flat White was very smooth with light floral aroma. We tried the most expensive pour over "La Union Guatemala". The brewer managed to avoid any tea-like bitterness making it very clean, and keep only the floral aroma in the aftertaste. You can take the counter seats to enjoy watching the brewing process in front of you! There are only four seats in the shop. However, I wished that I would be given more informal about the “daily Single Origin” I had for my Flat White. When I asked, I was only told of the region and that it was Guatamala. With the top choice pour-over we ordered and the convenience of sitting right in front of the brewer, we were not given a chance to smell the dry fragrance before brewing, and were never asked about feedback, and no interaction at all during the whole time. We actually also ordered a bag of whole beans of the pour-over coffee we had in the shop. I wish I could feel more of passion from the team. Perhaps, this is just the way they run a successful chain shop.

It’s a cozy place. Even though it’s small, it’s a nice spot for a quick coffee. I had the Iced Espresso Spritz. A good drink for a warm day or when you want something refreshing.

Personally, I found the coffee here to be quite enjoyable. The temperature was just right, and the smoothly steamed milk blended well with the coffee, bringing out its gentle aroma and flavor. I think this place would be great for those who prefer a softer, milder coffee. I didn’t get a chance to try the long black, but I’ll definitely give it a go next time I visit.

Marketlane Coffee is a total game-changer! Their brews are always on point, and the vibes of their cafes are super cozy. Love how they source their beans sustainably, too. Definitely my go-to spot for a caffeine fix when in Queen Victoria Market.

Excellent bold coffee, woke me up in the morning before start my trip in Melbourne. Only downside is limited space which is understandable. Superb service provided. Definitely worth to visit before start your day!

One of the iconic coffee shops in QVM, service is fast and coffee is decent quality, and they roasted their own beans. But I do find the beans slightly more acidic for the flat white, not the smoothest.

It’s a cute store but they don’t have too much space for take in. Most of the seats are outdoor. Long black is a bit too sour for me but still delicious. Chocolate is really good!

Coffee is so good and done professionally. Service is also great and with a smile. Place is nice and I would come again.

Okay, it is probably not a place where you can sit down and have a coffee, namely because there really isn't all that much room, and if you end up here at the wrong time there will be a barrage of people swarming through. However, it is still quite a nice place for a drink, and the coffee (when I had it all that time ago) was actually pretty good. Probably best to bring your keep cup and go have drink the coffee elsewhere.

By the recommendation of Timeout Melbourne, I decided to visit Market Lane Coffee - that is, the one by the Victoria Markets. Apparently there are several coffee hubs under this name, so to be sure, this is the one on Therry Street. It's a simple and rustic coffee specialty 'cafe' - though I wouldn't say it's much of a cafe. There aren't many seats or tables to stick around the place for, but I guess most people are looking to stroll around the area anyway. I was a bit confused by the menu at first, and just opted for a standard (they only have one size) latte instead of a skinny. In fact, they don't even do a skinny! They just have full milk - and that's it - so if you're one for skim or soy milk, don't bother with this place. The service wasn't extremely friendly, but they were pretty quick when I was there. The latte art was nice, and I liked their takeaway cups! Awesome takeaway cups are sometimes the best part of a latte. Hehe. It makes up for the bad coffee sometimes. In this case, it didn't really have to "make up" for the coffee - thought my latte wasn't as awesome as I had hoped. It was quite aromatic, but a bit more than acidic than I like it. The latte was a good smooth cup of coffee, but in a way, I may find Alen's coffee in Brisbane more favorable. Since there are plenty of other coffee hubs in Melbourne, I'm not so sure I would recommend this place. It's surely convenient if you're by the Victoria Markets - but the handful of other cafes around the city make for tough competition!

Queen Victoria Market coffee shop! This place is the cream on my latte. This is a top-notch coffee spot. I came here, and was amazed at their enthusiasm and depth of knowledge on coffees. I got a Ethiopian single origin coffee, which had berry flavors to it. They were exacting on the weight of the beans, the amount of the water, as they made the drink personally for me. They discussed the qualities of the beans, how they got them, their roasting process- you could tell that the barista had a passion for brewing coffee! The drink was a pour over, and he painstakingly timed the brewing process to extract the maximum flavor from the beans. It was absolutely heavenly. This is some of the greatest attention to detail I've seen while pouring coffee. They get all science-y up in here, and pour a mean cuppa Joe! The shop is more of a coffee stand, in the deli hall of Queen Victoria Market. It's clean, well lit, and prices are clearly displayed. They seem to only offer coffee to-go.

A tiny offshoot of the "mothership" at Prahran Market, this little store is the perfect spot to get either fuel up before a market expedition or rest after you've battled crowds for mangoes over the road. If you've never tried a coffee extracted in a method other than the espresso machine, this is a great place to try it out. There are always single origin beans on the menu and the knowledgeable baristas will guide you in the direction of something new. If they're not flat-chat busy they can also explain the subtle pour-over process. With a focus on retail beans and coffee equipment, this is a great shop to add to your market day routine

Brilliant, high quality coffee. These guys not only prepare excellent espresso beverages and single cup brews, but they roast exceptional coffee, both blends and single origin selections. Perfect extraction and beautiful milk pour for lattes, cappuccinos, flat whites, etc. Crema has beautiful color and shine. You'd do well to enjoy a single cup pour over as well. They'll bring you the coffee along with a card describing the beans, roasting process, and tasting notes for the finished cup. Excellent all-around. A wide selection of beans and brewing paraphernalia are available for purchase. Aficionados who brew at home won't be disappointed.

Lately I have been trying to hold on to my reviews because I just feel like I want to experience a business for a few times before I make a judgement about them. This little gorgeous coffee shop located right to the proximity of QVM gave me all the love in one visit that I wanted to marry it. The cappuccinos that we had was heavenly plus we took home some beans that is of great quality. The best option is to take away your coffee in those beautifully designed cups. However they do have a few seats that gives you a choice to rest after walking all those aisles in the market. So the next time you are nearby, this is not only the best option, it is the feel good after you had your coffee option.

I don't know if this is the best coffee in Australia (fighting words, I know), but it is pretty darn near the top of the list. We ventured here last month by accident, due to its proximity to the Queen Victoria Market, and then we just keep coming back. All the coffee drinks are prepared to a very high standard, and I am super picky when it comes to these things. And the roast they use is superb, so much so that we plan on ordering beans from here and having them shipped to us in Sydney. If you live in Melbourne, lucky you! This is a real gem.

I can't believe I am giving a mere coffee shop in Melbourne a very high rating, but drinking at this place really was excellent. This place was recommended to me by a somewhat sophisticated, gorgeous, but friendly lady that I met in a nightclub in Hong Kong, saying to me it was her favourite place to get coffee in Melbourne. My expectations for coffee are fairly low, and I usually get coffee only if I need to stay awake or if I am having a conversation with someone that I treasure at a cafe. The latte I got here was probably one of the best coffee beverages I have drank in years. Every sip was not too sweet, not overly creamy, and had a slight bitterness that I can appreciate, making it one of the best coffee flavours I have experienced. Great aftertaste flavour, and I had plenty of quick energy running through my body. It made me feel like I was ready to take on the day. Presentation is very impressive and can serve as a wonderful complement to a tasty and sweet (but not overly sweet) "brekkie" or a scrumptious lunch. If I was drinking this coffee before going to a sophisticated evening reception, I would be much more confident talking to plenty of really cool blokes and gorgeous but nice ladies and and not give a damn about the questionable people. That's how I would describe the caffeine's effect on me. The service was not that great. I waited for more than 5 minutes for my coffee, but the interior has a "hip" vibe that gave me the feeling that I was in a better city than Boston. This not a place to go to in an extreme rush, but a place to get and enjoy your coffee at a moderate pace. Overall, if I was living in Melbourne and woke up early desiring some coffee with an amazing flavour to wake me up, this is the place I would go to. I thought I had some of the best coffee in Melbourne, and the flavour was so unforgettable that I remembered it on my flight out of this wonderful city. Thank you Miss, for recommending this place to me. You really were right.

Awesome coffee here. Always preferred the brewed coffees. Tried both types, LA sociedad and the pea berry. Both with a tinge of something for you to think about after every sip. Come after lunch to enjoy it well and fast and avoid the crowd.

Best coffee ever. No questions! I had a flat white and it hit the spot. They take great pride in sourcing, roasting and grinding the best. The café itself is small but very tastefully decorated. It also has limited seating. Don't think there is a wifi. Also, I got one of their danishs and it paired very well with the coffee. Must try if you are in Melbourne.

The flat white here was really disappointing--the coffee was quite bitter, had a burnt sort of taste and the foam didn't have the velvety texture it ought to have. Didn't get any of the coffees other reviews mentioned, but perhaps those are better. Just don't get the flat white here! The cascara tea was pretty decent.

A long time fan of Market Lane coffee, I finally got to their Queen Vic Market location (well, opposite!) on the weekend. A little smaller than the Prahran Market version, but they work the space well. The fit out is simple and elegant. A little crowded during the busy rush, but people perch in every nook and cranny and it seems to give the venue an additional warmth as we all huddle over our delicious hot coffees. No food offerings other than a few cakes and sweet things. The coffee itself is always on the mark. If you've never had Market Lane Coffee before, it's a Melbourne-must. You won't be disappointed.

One of the most consistent cafe in Melbourne CBD. The coffee is great and I had already recommend this place to a lot of my friends and families. They sell different kinds of sweet pastry to pair with your coffee. If you are into pour overs, you are in for a treat because they provide a selection of different kind of pour overs. Market Lane is simply part of coffee royalty in Melbourne. The stores are stylish, staff are elite and your experience visiting is second-to-none. I was able to visit the Therry St venue twice in two days over the last week. Both experiences were tremendous. I was only able to enjoy their coffee as a take away, but the long blacks I ordered were smooth, rich in flavour and down right awesome. The almond croissant was so good, so much so I needed more self control than ever to not buy more than one! I should note though food is unfortunately limited to delicious pastries and sweets, but plenty of coffee paraphernalia for those in need of filters, grinders, and whatnot is available. Whether it's at the QV store, or the Carlton or Prahran one, definitely make sure you try them out. There's a good reason many good cafes around Melbourne are serving their beans!

After enjoying my Market Lane coffee yesterday at Altius on Flinders Lane I thought I'd try the Market Lane coffee shop near the Vic market. The coffee was pretty good but not that strong tasting for a double shot. Similar to Altius they don't serve food (well, there were 2 tasty looking croissants on the counter) so again all about the coffee which is no bad thing. The place wasn't particularly busy as the market isn't on today; maybe it's super busy on market days. Still, I will definitely be coming back.

WOW I knew there was some good coffee places in Melbourne, but this is getting serious here. They clearly know their coffees and you can taste it ! I had a filtered coffee from Brazil, with a card telling more about the producer and the coffee itself, and that simple bonus can make all the difference, reading about what you're drinking while you enjoy it, is really nice. Then, because a filtered coffee was not enough, I had an espresso (can't tell which one since someone ordered it for me) but : WOW (again) It was just splendid, best espresso I had since in Australia, and it's been more than one year now. You can buy the coffee you just drank, and enjoy it at home (high prices but amazing products) Will definitely go back Did I mention the (really) good cake pear/salty caramel ? I did now.

Great coffee, friendly service and a very cool setup. Market Lane Coffee is simplistic and focuses on the hero of the dish quite well (COFFEEE!). If you are heading to Queen Vic for some fresh goodness or one of the many night markets try pop down to Market Lane first for a coffee. Also watch out for some cool food trucks in close vacinity.

Even at 7am Market Lane coffee is serving up some sexy caffeine influenced beverages. Now good things come to those who wait but the early market goer gets the fresh produce and no worm. The folks at Market Lane Coffee are in the slow path to coffee perfection. So perhaps not the best place to go to if your in a rush. Do I thin it's worth the wait? Why yes I do! As pretty coffee purists they don't offer le skinny (skim/trim for our Kiwi cousins) milk. Only a minor issue for those of us with dairy sensitivity. This doesn't stop me from throwing back a latte a I battle the crowds for the best chorizo sausages in town in the deli section. With the possibility of getting another on the way out. They do provide you with free entertainment, as there is usually a fish mongerer or butcher in full kit ordering a pour over coffee or some other hipster inspired beverage, while you wait. Walking into Market Lane, you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd accidentally set foot in a mad scientist's [coffee] laboratory. Pour-over drips against the wall are this lab's bubbles and beakers, and the mustachioed gent behind the espresso machine is Dr. Nefario to the head cheese's Gru. The small, oddly cylindrical cakes adjacent to the register are tempting and indeed as delicious as they look. As for those pour-overs, well if you enjoy good coffee then you're going to like it here.

Had to stop by here before venturing into Queen Vic markets for the am coffee. Such a great decision as my friend and I were in dire need of some caffeine and Market Lane makes really good coffees. The queue of coffees being made and the line of people waiting for their order to be taken was quite a clear indicator. The small space filled up quite fast. Had to wait a bit for our order but got to see the drip brew method of coffee in action as well as the barista at the coffee machine. Loved the white brick interior and simple styling with it's shelf of beans and other specialty coffee making gadgets. Saw a small tiered ladder shelf of sweet goods on sale but otherwise just coffee and things related to coffee. I got the Los Cuxinales- which was classified as a Bourbon variety with the washed process. Hails from Guatemala: specifically the Sacatepequez region. Described semi accurately as Dark chocolate and honey notes with a soft raisin finish. Friend had the La Soledad which was also a Guatemala coffee from the Antigua Region. Hers was slightly different as a Bourbon & Caturra varieties: again with a washed process. Notes of red apple and honey and a cherry finish. Both of ours came with a sweet postcard with all this info as well as more details about the beans, farm and how to brew. Very neat. Definitely recommend stopping by this specialty coffee roastery and cafe! They have a great philosophy about bean sourcing, roasting and making superior coffees. We were both happy with our coffees- great start to the day!

If it's coffee you are after there are few better places for a great cup of joe. There is some exposed brick which is the must have of any good Melbourne coffee joint. The 'sides' of good are great and much the same as the Prahran place. Would say the staff can be a bit pompous here compared to Prahran who are always amenable and pleasant. However I'm not there for a conversation with staff I'm here for coffee. Top marks for the latter.

Beautiful little space with heaps of natural light flooding in located right across the busiest market in Melbourne. Did someone say location location location?? Seating is limited to a few benches, and there is a whole wall of 3rd wave coffee equipment available for purchase. Friendly staff. Fast Service. Great Coffee. Note: No Skinny/Soy Milk.

Wowzers, this coffee was worth the wait! A recent convert to the coffee drinking world, I am hesitant to go out of my way for a 'good coffee' - at this early stage in my coffee consuming career, surely anything will do?! Well no, really. I drink a long black, as coffee has never seemed to go hand in hand with milk for me but I stopped by Market Lane with my Mum (who feels the same but does enjoy milk a bit more...) and she ordered a latte - well I had to have a sip of hers and oh my oh my was it delicious or what! We had to wait a little longer than our friends who grabbed coffee elsewhere but that was because this place was so popular! Neat and tidy, especially by market standards, the stall is one of the more beautiful (and that's really saying something considering there are some great options around here!) and the staff were friendly! All in all, a great choice!

What a lovely little shop! I frequented the South Yarra location more often because I lived on Chapel, but this one is much more cute and cozy. You're instantly greeted with friendly faces and recommendations, and the coffee here is always top-notch. It's a really good location for when you're at the Queen Vic Market and want a great cup of coffee. My favourite is the filter coffee taster... you get an amazing variety and it's a great deal for the price. You can really compare the different seasonal coffees on serve, and watch the changes as they cool. It's great that they offer this, and that they sell such a high quality range of home brew gear.

My love for Market Lane Coffee needs no words. Usually their Prahran Markets hub is my usual drop-in when I'm in town but I had the pleasure of being shown their Therry Lane outfit this trip. It's cute in an exposed-wall-pull-up-a-bench-if-you-can kind of way. Let's be clear, it's not a spot to mill around. It's a spot to get a coffee, a good coffee, and get going. You know their team are pros behind a coffee machine and you'll be able to ask as many questions as you like to understand your coffee better. You could even walk home with a jet-setter coffee set or a starter pour over kit.

For just dropping in and grabbing a coffee near the Queen Vic Market, this is the place to go. I love the fact they have more than one filter option and are fast an efficient in serving and supplying. You can buy your coffee beans here too, plus your coffee paraphernalia! Definitely will drop by again....and again....again

Small, quaint and well maintained. Stopped in for a morning coffee during a business trip and was impressed by the quality of the coffee. So I returned for another and was a satisfied customer once again. The staff were polite, friendly and knowledgeable. Latte art was on on point. And the rhubarb crumble was amazing. Will be back for sure.

First time I was a bit put off by the "reverential" fittings, black garbed women working the "front desk" who whispered to each other and the fact that they couldn't seem to ( or chose not to) understand my order (even though third trip to Australia, the coffee terminology here is complicated). But wow the coffee is great. Unbeaten by anywhere I've been in U.S., AUS or NZ. Second experience (next morning) confirmed the coffee is really outstanding- and there was different staff who were a lot more user (Yankee) friendly. When at Victoria Market would really recommend people step across the side street for the coffee here.

I don't know if we just got unlucky because it was busy when we were here, but our lattes were awful. They didn't even taste like there was any coffee in it. All milk. Arguably the most disappointing coffee we've had in Australia- a land of delicious coffee.

The coffee is so good. I knew that Melbourne is famous for its coffee culture, but this is something else. My recommendations? Get the long black accompanied with raspberry cake!

This place is ALL about the coffee - and they do it so well. We tried iced filter coffee from Brazil, and were extremely pleased. The taste was phenomenal, the price was on-point, the decor of the cafe was gorgeous... and they sell little starter kits for those wanting to brew their own coffee at home. Fabulous!

Finally a decent coffee in Melbourne that's worth writing about. Little pretentious like LA Mill in Los Angeles with a few places to sit - but coffee is solid with their own roasted beans and blends, each cup trying to achieve perfection. But at $3.50 a cup of espresso, that's what you should get. If you are in the area for a good cup of coffee, this is better than anything I had in Melbourne so far, and hopefully not the best.

Went in for a quick breakfast and coffee and the place is decorated lovely but has not many tables rather it has benches to sit on around the edge. The almond croissant was fresh and melting in my mouth. The coffee on the other had was just ok. The flavor was a bit watery and I asked for a cappuccino but got a flat white.

Pretentious? Slightly. Overpriced? Kind of, maybe. Delicious? Absolutely. I was surprised that a small sized cappuccino was $4.50, but after the first sip I decided it was worth it. Their blend was absolutely delicious - I regret not keeping track of what it was. I wouldn't have this on the regular even if I had access to it (considering I live in Brisbane), simply on the basis of the price, but I would have a treat every now and then. The idea of this little coffee shop is that it's just that - a coffee shop that's ALL about coffee. Interesting and I'm glad to see something like this thriving (a coffee and spices near my home in inner city Brisbane just recently closed). In short, try it (at least) once and you'll love it.

The coffee is alright -- not as good as SF Bay area coffee in the states, but the vibe and the kind people working there make it worth a visit.

Delicious coffees, happy to cater to all tastes. Their range of pour over coffees are particularly full of flavour, worth savouring! Service can at times be a bit slow and my order has been missed a couple of times, but worth the wait.

Market Lane Coffee is an amazing little place to get that fix. Espresso is always good, and the daily change of blends is refreshing taste wise. Cute fit out with good range of coffee making goods to buy. Chilled vibe even during peak hours! My favourite part are the antique spoons!

I was really disappointed with market lane coffee. It had been hyped up a lot and I was excited to try it. My coffee was very burnt and the price was a bit higher than the average coffee.
