Girlfriend’s bike was squeaking under braking. I was out of town so she brought it to Market Street Cycles for service. She also requested a tune up. After work was completed she was told bring it back if there were any problems and they’d take care of it. Well after 15-20 miles of riding, the squeaking came back. She called and got the run around “sorry you need to make an appointment.” So she took the bike in personally. “Sorry, we can’t warranty any work after 20mi of riding.” 20 miles is less than 1 round trip from her place to Sausalito and back FYI. Anyhow, I took it to Bike Teacher in San Jose. Arthur and I had it sorted in less than an hour. Brake pads just had a bunch of gunk on them (see pic). A little bit of sanding + cleaning and they were good to go. No more squeaks after many rides up hawk hill and back. Cherry on top, during the “tune up” they decided to mess with the front derailleur settings so it started throwing the chain again. No sweat, I had it adjusted properly in about 5 mins and I’m by no means a bike mechanic. In conclusion, can they fix your bike? Mostly. Do they stand behind their work? Not really.

I came to fix my soft tire today. I love how person took care of my bike. Thank you so much! I was with my child and somehow forgot about the tips. Next time for sure! Thanks again! Great people - great service!

I've stopped into this shop on a few random occasions, and I've always been pleased with the awesome service. My main bike shop is a bit out of the way, so I've been here for supplies, a flat, and even a car collision. The team here is knowledgeable, the store has everything you need (or they're happy to order it), and most importantly for me, everyone is friendly—even the other customers you'll encounter in the store. A couple of months ago, I had a service issue at this shop, and the focus put on resolving my issue honestly made my day. I appreciate that this is a small business, and even with what must be tight margins, they're more than willing to make the right decisions towards ensuring a great experience & rightfully loyal customers. I'm not at all exaggerating when I say that I was highly impressed by the service. Thank you!

This shop is quite honestly the very best bike shop I've encountered during my 33 years in SF! I appreciate the work of an honest craftsman, and I'm so happy I found them. They're in my neighborhood, but quite honestly, I'd happily trek across town for their great work and fair prices! I brought my vintage fixie to them a few years ago, looking to get it running again and mainly to avoid any further deterioration from being garaged for so long...They appreciated its awesome qualities, didn't change what didn't need to be changed, and got it up to snuff for a very fair price. More recently, I had a problem with my daily bike, and brought it in - they fixed the immediate issue and got it running again, but noticed that it had a lot of deferred maintenance (yeah, I knew that, I've been riding it for 5 years!) - and recommended a few fixes. Once again, they didn't oversell me on things that weren't necessary - which I deeply appreciate, because I truly hate tossing things into a landfill before their time! They got my day to day bike running perfectly - quickly and for a decent price. I'm thrilled to call them my local bike shop and I highly recommend Market Street Cycles!

Called to order my dream bike - John, Matt and his team did EVERYTHING they could to get me my beautiful new set of wheels within the week to enjoy over the long weekend. An instant fit both for the bike and the crew I can't wait to work with them in the coming years 😊

First off this place is still open despite what some reviews and online sleuthing might suggest. I walked in on a Thursday morning and John quickly answered my questions about new wheels and provided quick tuneup, my bike is working much better now and I was saved weeks of time by not ordering the wrong wheels online. Would definitely come back.

Being new to biking and having been to 2 of the Big Bike Shops, Market Street Bikes was a great change of pace. John and Fezz made the adjustments to my bike and needed repairs at a fair and reasonable price. I never felt pressured or intimidated during the process. I don't often write reviews, but after my first ride, I knew I needed to let others know about this place!!

Thank you for being there all those years when I needed bike gear and repairs as I was commuting to work, or just a short walk from home. I'm sad you're closing because of the crime and the car wrecking your store, but it's definitely understandable. You, your employees, your business and your customers deserved better. What you did for the neighborhood was greatly appreciated and won't be forgotten.

These guys care more about giving you good reliable service than trying to sell you on something you don't need. I appreciate that business ethic along with their reasonable tune-up rates and expert work. This is my go-to bike shop.

I'm a DIY kind of guy. I built my own computer, fix my own car and grow my own veggies. I thought adjusting derailleur by watching a YouTube video wouldn't be too hard. I was wrong. With greasy fingers and a newfound appreciation for the difficulty of bike repairs I walked into Market Street Cycles. Although they were busy from the recent trend of COVID cycling enthusiasts they let me drop in for an appointment. After about 15 minutes they had my derailleur fixed, brakes adjusted and as a bonus my chain replaced. Biking is my favorite part of living in San Francisco. Thanks to Market Street Cycles I can keep moving!

Market Street Cycles saved my life! I was commuting to work via Market Street had to avoid a car ran over glass shards. Hulk Hogan'ed it but after 5 blocks rear tire blew out I was riding on the rim, got my first flat. The best part is I don't carry a flat kit. Called the wife to get a ride then noticed across the street there it was - Market Street Cycles! Open for business even during the coronavirus lockdown while most bike shops were closed. To own a bike shop on Market Street in San Francisco is extremely expensive. The rent for these shops is sky high and that's an understatement. And they just keep going up and up every year. I am incredibly thankful for a small business like them to be at this location, otherwise I would have lost hours waiting for a ride. John and his wife were incredibly helpful. I remember a moment while speaking to John's wife about how hard business is during the lockdown, John approached his wife and kissed her in the forehead. It was at that moment it reminded me how important it is to support our local bike shops and small businesses like theirs. I am truly grateful I found this bike shop. I decided to buy my flat kit from them - 2 tubes and a pump. They have a stunning collection of Italian bikes from Bianchi. The stunning celeste colors of these bikes are so beautiful. Would love to buy own one someday. I will be back!

Went there with brake problems on my e bike. Thinking it was worn brake pads, the employee told me a replacement would be needed, but this was not the case. My friend came by and adjusted the brakes in less than five minutes. I don't like how either inexperienced or uncaring they were about my issue. i think brakes are pretty important to be knowledgeable about and this shop just didn't take care of me

This is the second time Matt and his team really went above and beyond for me and my CAAD12 Cannondale. The first time I cross threaded crank installing pedals like a noob and he was able to re-thread and install the pedals. I came in near the end of the day and he knocked this work out in less than 10 minutes for me at a reasonable price. I was very impressed! The second time was today and I made an appointment to get my bottom bracket over-hauled and steerer tube cut. The Cannondale crankset requires proprietary tool which not all shops carry and they called me to let me know there is a work around for this and was able to service my bike anyway. Matt test drove the bike and made sure all issues were resolved. Steerer tube was clean and he polished the bike. Exceptional service!! This shop is a gem in SF where other bike shops are closed.

Highly recommend this place, I was in the neighborhood, and I obtained a flat tire, somehow, and brought it to them. It was a Mercedes-Benz E bike. Yes, they performed the repair, smoothly and reassembly perfectly. After the repair, I went on the rest of my bike trip for the day, which just happened to be the maiden voyage of the bicycle. I've found out that these small shops always do the best work. .

Twice now I've taken a bike that other shops in town have repeatedly failed to get adjusted right to Market Street Cycles. And twice they've just gotten it working. Moral of the story is that I should stop wasting my time on other shops, and just take it to them in the first place.

Most honest shop in the business - won't upsell you anything you don't need and give honest assessments. No elitism or snobbery like at many of the the shops in the city. Went above and beyond helping me out with a warranty issue that all the other shops I spoke with were just trying to sell me replacement parts and make $$$. Will keep going to these guys for all things cycling!

Super nice guys. I forgot how to pump my tires and they could hear the evidence as I was trying to use their complimentary air pump. Owner came over and gave me a kind, patient tutorial.

I'm not a big reviewer but Market St Cycles is truly great. To an individual, they are knowledgeable, excellent bike mechanics, and down to earth (I'm never made to feel dumb even when I ask dumb questions!). They've helped me out by doing a major reconstruction after a crash to minor tune ups along the way. Always fair with pricing and clear with what's going on with your bike. Quick turnaround too.

I have to say a big thank you to Market Street Cycles for being open early and helping me with my bike. I ride tubeless on my CX bike and hit a patch of glass - creating a spray of latex fluid that surprised my fellow commuters "why is your bike crying?!" I dropped in, bought a tube, and used the pump - and in fact my tyre resealed itself. Thank you for getting me out of a spot!

My front brake got loosen & went in the Market Street cycles for help. The staff at the front desk was very helpful. He saved my day.

Excellent local bike shop. Friendly, bike-savvy staff, especially Matt. As a bonus, they'll keep an eye on your bike if you have to do business at the SFMTA. Consider having some cash on hand to tip the staff if you use this invaluable service. A $5 tip is well worth having your bike in one piece -- far from a guarantee when you lock it up on Van Ness and Market . . . .

I work a few blocks away from this shop and they have been amazing every time there has been an emergency. Less than an hour turn around to replace my tube and tire (I ran over a three-inch screw a block away), plus they also adjusted my shifters and chain. And for an extremely reasonable rate. They're very low pressure and a great spot on your commute downtown. A+

Brought my bike in because I Kept getting a flat and was getting rude and horrible customer service at Mike's bike-shop in SOMA... these guys at took a good look at it here and figured it out in 5 min.

John and Matt built my dream bike. They ordered it from the manufacturer and customized order and swap out some of the accessories turned a sport bike into vintage look. The service to install the parts were free, I couldn't believe it. You could tell that they really love working there. They are great with all their customers. I would recommend anyone to buy or service their bike here.

This is honestly the best bike shop in the city. I was recommended to go here by a friend and wasn't disappointed. Friendly service, extensive knowledge base, and always willing to go above and beyond. I don't know much about bikes, but every time I come out of the shop I learn something new. I can't say this about most businesses, but they have a customer for life with me. I'd highly recommend going here and would give them 6 stars if I could!

This bike shop is thee best! I have taken my bike to what feels like every bike shop in the city and the people at Market Street Cycles go above and beyond the rest. I had a problem that three other bike shops could not solve and with one visit to Market Street Cycles the issue was solved! They have great prices and are speedy with labor. Seriously, this bike shop is such a gem. Worth going out of your way for!

Bought a new Bianchi bike at Market Street Cycles; all the guys were very helpful locating the one I wanted. The bike came in, they made adjustments for me and I was on my way. A few weeks later I came in and purchased some additional accessories and they made some adjustments and I was on my way. Great place to purchase and the best after sales care!

This place gets an A+ for service! I bought a bike on Amazon, totally fumbled the assembly, and came down to have it tuned properly. Matt went way above and beyond. He's very meticulous and the bike was so much better when I got it back than when I left it. I'd here again!

I love this place. I've been to other bike shops in town where I definitely felt people were kind of pretentious and not friendly. But not here. They are wicked friendly, fair priced, and good at their job. Two big thumbs up.

Stopped by this bike shop knowing very little about bikes in general. I asked Lane(?) about road bikes, and he very patiently explained a bunch of important facts to me. Extremely helpful. I wanted to get a road bike, and to help me out, he and John customized the bike to fit my body type. To do this, I went on a total of 4 test rides, each time with a different modification. The guys working there are super cool, extremely helpful, and down to earth. Definitely recommend them for any bike needs!

To reach my new job site I'll need to take my bike on the ferry so I took it to Market Street Cycles for a check up. John was extremely helpful! My chain is getting worn and will last me a while longer, but since I will be biking to and from work I should replace it now. I agreed because that sounded prudent. A few days later I returned to the shop and John brought out my nicely repaired bike. John replaced the chain and gave it a minor tune up because that was all it needed. John noticed that the handlebar tape was loose and unraveled a bit on one side so he went ahead and rewound the tape on that side. This was such a nice detail because I often forget to bring my gloves. This small detail adds much ascetically and functionally. John rocks and Market Street Cycles rock because they deliver excellent care and excellent service!

This bike shop is awesome. I've been going there for a few years now, convenient because they're on my bike ride home just off Market. Every time I've gone in they have been nothing but friendly and helpful. They are super down-to-earth and really go above and beyond to help you out. You can ask them questions about anything, and they don't treat you like an idiot or try to rip you off, they try to figure out what the best solution for you is and explain why... highly recommend spending your money here!

One of the mechanics is grumpy. He charges $30 for every part that this is dirty on your bicycle. He wouldn't remove the extra charge either. Expensive just to pump air.

This is the most welcoming bike shop I've ever walked into. The owner, John, came and met me at the door. For those of us who don't know diddly squat about bikes, sometimes we just want consultation on it. We don't know the right questions to ask. I bought a 1999 Cannondale T500 on Craigslist from a super shady 47-year-old guy. He seemed nice enough, in a Toyota 4Runner and business casual. Until he sold me a bike with a huge dent in it. That he had stuffed with peppermint chewing gum and used packing tape around. Then hid under a faux-carbon fiber top tube vinyl wrap. Who, after some stalking, I found was a university-educated pastor with a family of at least three. So much for a man of God... I am tempted to text him "shame on you." Shame on me too, for not fully checking the Craigslist bike out. Although, under the "fool me once..." rule, I believe shady dude is up to bat with the shame. In any case, John basically let me know that it was a Frankenbike with its touring frame and road components (brake, fork and wheels). I've since returned to get new tubes and new tires installed on my vintage bike. I brought the items with me and the labor set me back a cool $20. I was in and out in 30 minutes.

Stopped in the other day (on my way into work) as my chain popped off due to an issue with my front derailleur. Fortunately, it popped up right at the bottom of Page St so Market Street Cycles was perfectly located. The guy behind the counter greeted me right as I came in and was eager to assist me in my bike woes. After explaining the problem, he took the bike behind the counter, thinking it would be a simple fix. Turns out something actually broke off in the derailleur but he removed the derailleur and put it into a vice to dislodge the broken piece. A few minutes later, the derailleur was back in place with a better metal piece than it had before. On top of that quick and easy service, he only charged me $8 bucks. While Mondays always suck, and bike problems on your commute don't make it any better, I'm glad Market Street Cycles was there to help me out in a bind.

About a week ago, my back wheel was stolen off my bike while it was parked in front of my school. In the COVID era, I was concerned that I would not be able to find any shop anywhere that was open. Luckily, Matt picked up when I called about my immobile bike and went above and beyond staying late to fix it for me. It is now even better to ride than before the wheel was stolen. Thank you, Matt!!!

Great service and fair prices! I'm an amateur when it comes to bike maintenance and the guys at Market Street Cycles made me feel welcome and took the time to explain things in a kind and helpful way. They didn't do more than I asked but gave recommendations for what my bike needed, plus did some safety checks! My 80s bike feels brand new after a few days in their shop. Great music is an added bonus!

I broke a spoke riding back from a COVID-19 test and was conveniently close to Market Street Cycles when it happened. Despite just randomly showing up unannounced, at a time when bike shops and mechanics are stretched to their limits, they repaired my wheel immediately for a really fair price and sent me on my way. I am incredibly appreciative of the level of service I received and will be a customer for life.

THE BEST BICYCLE SHOP IN SF. Love the guys who work here. They really care about their craft and do a good job if you need advice on your bicycle. Came here recently to get a new seat and new brake calipers. Took about 2 days for the turn around (which is reasonable) and I was out on new brakes and a really comfortable and spiffy-lookin' Brooks leather saddle. Will be coming back here regularly for tune-ups. They're open later and earlier than most bike shops in the area and really cater to the commuters going up and down Market Street. Bonus: discount for SF Bicycle Coalition members!

This place is still great and my favorite bike shop in the city. It's simple -- they're sweet and skilled and never patronizing. They also gave out free chocolate today which really sealed the deal. Love Market Street Cycles and highly recommend it.

I need to give a shout out to the service of this place, and to Jon in particular. I work nearby, and I stupidly forgot my bike lock today. Just one of those days. I walk into the store, pick out a cheap lock, and go up to the register to pay. I casually mentioned that I am dumb and forgot my lock, and Jon stops me from paying and asks if I just want a loaner. Of course I took him up on it, and he said to just get it back to him later today or tomorrow morning. This kind of employee and store is exactly the kind that helps build community, and makes the world a better place. Jon has earned my future business. Thank you.

Very nice and helpful guys! I went here to get a quote to see how much it'll cost to get my handlebars sawed about 5 minutes before they were closing. The guys working there had a look at my bike and told me they could actually do it then. Really appreciated that they would work overtime to help me. Also gave me a very reasonable price for the job! Would recommend this place!

I needed a repair for my brand spankin' new Cannondale MTB and John from MSC saved the day. I dropped off my bike and forgot my wallet so i came back and the bike was repaired. All done within 35 mins...and that included looki g for a repair shop as well. If i'm a fan, then you should be too!

I haven't been to many bike shops in SF, but I've heard about friends having unpleasant experiences. I decided to go to Market Street Cycles after reading all the positive reviews, and I'm really happy I did. The people and service here are top notch. Jim is super knowledgeable about bikes and although he didn't have the right size spoke for my wheel (it is an uncommon size from an older bike) he called me to tell me right away, offered suggestions for a couple places to try in the city, and still managed to fix the alignment on my wheel. He genuinely had my best interest in mind, and to me, that is the most important thing. I will definitely be back here! Also - pricing is very reasonable.
