The Best Hotels in Edinburgh (2025) | Condé Nast Traveler

"A new‑build Scandi‑meets‑Scottish bolthole, I arrived to a rooftop reception and champagne bar with enviable views to the Balmoral clock tower and New Town; rooms channel baronial Highland castles with wooden floors, granite walls, sliding oak shutters and mid‑mod furniture with a tartan twist, the free minibar is stocked with Scottish drinks and snacks, and staff are friendly while a hearty Scottish breakfast (including tattie scone and haggis‑and‑beef sausage) sets you up for a day in the Old Town." - Rosie Conroy

The Market Street Hotel was in an amazing location in Old Town, very close to the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. The rooms were very nice, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The mini bar is filled with good drinks and they also provide some snacks which was a nice touch. Also loved that they had a Dyson hair dryer in the bathroom (along with a hair straightener and clothes steamer). They also have rain showers. The rooms were also pretty and quiet. I was on the 6th floor under the restaurant so could hear some noise from upstairs but it was fine. |All of the staff members are incredibly professional, friendly, and helpful. This was my first solo trip across the Atlantic and they all made me feel safe and welcome. |The breakfast wasn't included for my stay but it was well worth the slight extra cost because the food was amazing, and same with their dinner and bar options. They have good vegetarian and gluten free options as well. My only suggestion is to make sure to make a reservation, especially on weekends if you plan to eat dinner there, it is a popular spot! |I highly recommend staying at the Market Street Hotel if you are planning a trip to Edinburgh! Thank you for my wonderful stay!

I have to say that The Market Street Hotel fulfilled all our expectations, which is rare these days. ||Travelling as a small family unit, we booked two rooms (right next to each other) through BA Holidays.||Reception (on the 7th floor) was warm and welcoming and our rooms, which were well appointed and comfortable, were available ahead of time. Each room came with a complimentary glass of champagne and complimentary minibar/fridge (but only for one of each item). The staff were smiley happy people who were polite and always ready to help. ||We were also able to leave bags, securely, both before we checked in and after we checked out, which was really useful considering our flight times.||I love Scotland and the Scottish people. I have been to Edinburgh twice before but this was the first time I’ve really managed to see the city, made all the better by having a fabulous base to return to after a day exploring.||I would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had an absolute blast! The room was very tidy and clean and included bath slippers and robes. The hotel service was perfect, especially at the restaurant! We had to leave early on our last day so we could not enjoy the breakfast buffet (which is an amazing buffet!), so they prepared a breakfast box for each of us to take with us on our way back. We had some complications with food allergies, but they handled this perfectly. Location was perfect for walking to most sight seeing spots in Edinburgh. The hotel is very central, but still very quiet, which was for us the perfect combination. We would definitely recommend staying here!!

This was our second visit to this excellent establishment and did not disappoint!|Circumstances conspired for us to have to move our original booking which the staff bent over backwards to literally accommodate us and, what’s more, we were allocated room 607 which is a suite along with a bottle of champagne in the room!! This particular cloud definitely had a silver lining!!|We were pleased to see that guests were still treated to a glass of champagne upon arrival and also offered the same with breakfast! A cracking start to any day!! Needless to say we were delighted with our room and upset that the inclement weather meant we could not take full advantage of our own roof terrace!!|As with any establishment like this it is the staff that make it and to a man and a lady they are all exceptional and cannot do enough to enhance your stay! The breakfast is a venerable feast and should you be that way inclined you could easily eat enough to see you through until evening meal! As for the evening we ate out for the duration of our stay and so cannot comment on the food available here, however, the choice of champagne and whiskey is superb and not ridiculously overpriced!|In my review of our first stay I had only one slight annoyance, sadly it still persists!! This is the lack of soft close toilet seats!! A simple thing to fix which would stop the constant clattering due to most people having them at home and not expecting the things to crash down!! I realise that this is nitpicking and certainly won’t stop me returning again on our next visit to Edinburgh! Go to this hotel and enjoy its location and welcoming ambiance, you won’t be disappointed! Cheers 🥂

Walking distance to all the major landmarks and right across from Waverly station. . Lovely room with complimentary mini bar, stocked with local favorites. I appreciated the glass of prosecco at check-in, a lovely welcome after traveling. The only off-putting aspect was the pervasive smell of burnt toast throughout, which woke me up thinking something was on fire.

Great location across the street from Waverly Station and close to attractions in the old town. The room lacked a desk, which I think is essential furniture. I had a beautiful view of two dumpsters on the street. The room was pointlessly high tech with a key card reader just to turn on the lights and too many light switches. The free drinks in the fridge were nice, though, and the room was quiet.

Wonderful hotel with a very helpful concierge and excellent location very close to the Royal Mile. The rooms are a bit cozy, but well appointed with narrow but very cool views. Breakfast is pricey but good and surrounded by great views of Edinburgh from just about every seat. If it's in your budget, Market Street Hotel is a great option. It's also directly across the street from the Waverly train station, which is very convenient.

Rooms are small, most around 400sq feet or less, but cozy. Location is great, close to the city center. The walk back to the hotel is easy because it's downhill from most places. Rooms are clean and modern, the beds are comfortable, and it is one of the few hotel rooms with enough lights in the to see what you are doing. Everything worked well, but the shower stall leaked water and flooded the bathroom floor while showering. Nice place overall.
