update 2019.12.16: I just found out all the content that I typed that time was not even shown up here. and out of all respect, I try to recall and write them down again. In terms of budgeting and location, this is definitely a very nice place that you should choose immediately. Also, the staff at the counter and wait for late arrive customer, I think that's also worth praising. However, in terms of room condition and public area hygiene, that's the reason why i put 2 stars at the beginning and changed to 3 now. Especially for the toilet and shower room, it is very nasty. Even though the staffs clean them regularly, but still people who shared to use them are not. I would say most of the time, I would need to clean the toilet by myself, and even found many time the toilet is not flushed, or there are many toilet paper thrown on the wet floor, or hand tissue fallen on the ground. I would say , on one side we really nice to ask for cooperation and abide of rules from the users; on the other, or to adjust the environment or the facilities that would prevent users from doing stupid things. I kind of having such mixed-feeling when I was staying in the hostel. However, yes, you probably could question me why bother of this convenient price of staying. I would say yes that's because it is convenient and that supposed to make customer comfortable with quality and standards.

It was a quick catch up with a friend that come across from New Zealand. The service was great, the drinks as requested but the only thing that dissapointed me was that they had a singer in the front room that matter it abit difficult to have a proper conversation without training or voices. Maybe having the volume a bit lower should have been in order when you have patrons in. The singers voice was great and the girl looked happy being there.

Had a happy hour and one of the few places open during the holidays. Rustic backpacker type bar. But had decent standard beer fat yak, carlton. Some outdoor seating and a view of south melbourne markets. Good for a casual drink , maybe not a first date.

I stayed here for 2 weeks... I was just focused on completing tasks I needed to do.; so I wasn't at the place much. Downstairs had an inviting aroma of beer, the second floor smelt of cannabis. I think this place was in need of a renovation and an upgrade for the appliances; place was falling apart, the cook stoves only had two working burners, there was an out of order oven (stated it was getting cleaned), entrance for the hostel had wood coming off of the doorframe, the doors to each room had a card entrance lock but it wasn't what was used to lock the door, one of the washrooms on second level had a door that wouldn't shut. I enjoyed my roommates I stayed shared a room with and all the other guests were very nice, towards the end I wasn't feeling comfortable because the hotel staff and owner made me feel like the bad guy. My rent wasn't missing, the guy I paid the money to didn't document or give me a receipt... I had to show them on the CCTV camera that I paid in cash. Still 3 stars is a good review.

Amazing located., super friendly and helpful staff and cheap as chips. All Important rooms (Kitchen/Bathrooms) were clean and the main rooms were not to bad either. Id say they were as clean as a 10 people Dorm room can be. Thanks Guys. C Ya next time

This place is amazing. I wish I had found the Market Tavern earlier and made it my Basecamp months ago. Unlike the big, superficial hostels in the CBD, this place offers the warmth, charme and character that comes along with good people and good vibes. There are people here that came off the Airport and stayed for months and years. They have great weekly activities and are just all about having a good time. It is really more like a big family and has treated me like a member. Come check it out and join in!

We were searching for a proper watering hole in Melbourne and found it here! 🍻 A backpackers bar that has everything you need and nothing extra: two pool tables, cheap beer and wonderfully quirky personnel that is topped with an international backpackers vibe. Damn, my hometown needs a place like this.

Cheap and clean place with happy hour drinking deals every night. Pool tables and sport on tv. Good location, close to south Melbourne market and two tramlines around the corner, two stops from casino.
