We visited Marmaris Castle Museum on Sunday night and loved the new concept they’ve developed — The Night Museum. Since Marmaris can be extremely hot, visiting in the evening lets you explore comfortably, avoid the midday sun, and even enjoy the sunset from the castle walls.
The museum features both open-air and indoor rooms, giving you a nice glimpse into the local history. It’s not a large museum, but it’s enough to understand the area’s ancient background. Our main reason for visiting was to see the newly discovered statue “Leyla” — a magnificent piece recently found by a local fisherman.
The only downside was, unfortunately, the other visitors. Many seemed obsessed with taking photos from the castle walls, making it hard to find a quiet spot to simply enjoy the view.
The walls had clear warnings not to sit or climb on them, yet many tourists ignored this for the sake of a photo. Please be respectful of the site and its history.
