We had never visited Myrtle Beach before, so my wife booked us at a Marriott knowing that this would be a good hotel. Wow! Am I glad she did! I had looked into less expensive options prior to arriving, as I thought the rates were a bit high. I can say, without hesitation, that I am so happy that she chose this place!
The resort is crowded in behind some vacation club villas, and the signage was not exactly easy to follow, but once we pulled up to check in, the resort staff was AMAZING. Kevin took care of our bags, and he was so pleasant.
Our room was good...about what you would expect from a Marriott. The partial view of the ocean, beach, and pools was nice. We quickly organized, and made our way to the pools. They are both clean and attractive. The pool attendant, Abigail, was very attentive and helpful.
The next morning, we went to the breakfast buffet. We had spoken with the hostess, Beatta, the previous evening, so we were looking forward to seeing if her descriptions of the dining experience were accurate. And, they were! Everything was perfect. Tah'ja can create an omelet that is a work of art, all while entertaining the guests as they wait. Mo and Richie were the happiest, most pleasant wait staff imaginable. The other hostess, Alice, was similarly pleasant and helpful. In short, the breakfast experience really sold us on the resort.
I met Paul, the Director of Food and Beverage, and I told him how great his staff members had represented themselves and the hotel. Paul was equally professional, and he made a point of checking on us each day. He really made us feel valued.
There were other nice amenities, like the fruit infused water near the check-in area, and the fabulous little shop run by the sweet lady (from New York, sorry...I can't remember her name). They also had activities for children, a basketball court, ping pong, and a cornhole game. It's not at the same level as the JW Marriott at Marco Island, so there is an opportunity for this hotel to step up their game.
We did not make use of the cabanas, as I didn't feel the need to drop $100 per day for one. Also, the beach chair/umbrella rental system seemed too pricey, so I would recommend that you take your own chairs and umbrellas to the beach. They told me that price was not set by the hotel, but instead was a city fee. Whatever! Take your own!
In short, the stay was AMAZING because of the staff! The resort is pretty great, mostly because of its location. And, as I noted previously, you definitely do not want to go shopping for cheap accommodations in Myrtle Beach. There were some shady (not good) places much further south.
Kudos to the staff! Everyone seemed to be polite and pleasant! Thanks for a great week, Paul, Mo, Richie, Tah'ja, Beatta, Alice, Kevin, Abigail, and everyone else who I can't specifically name. You were great!
