Stunning lobby and overall a beautiful hotel, carefully restored to it's glory days. Walking in the lobby is a real 'wow' moment similar to some of the best destination resorts we have stayed in. What a surprise to find this in Syracuse! We enjoyed the photo gallery of history about the building on the mezzanine. The room was comfortable and in good condition.Too bad the lobby cocktail bar was not open, but otherwise everything was great! Easy walk to lots of restaurants, great architecture and history, and the local theatres (which is what brought us to town). We enjoyed leaving our car and exploring the downtown, which is well kept, clean, and safe.

Didn’t think it was very spectacular from the exterior, a convenient pull off for check in wasn’t available, and the parking garage is a block away. But the interior is classy, clean, impeccably preserved and impressive. A timeless example of an era past. The staff at the front desk were friendly, helpful and informative. The rooms are nice and well maintained, however, for the price (in Syracuse, no less🙄), all rooms should include a mini fridge and microwave. It’s conveniently located to several attractions and Syracuse university, but it’s not in the best part of town. You wouldn’t want to leave your car parked on the street overnight. It would have been nice to have restaurant information and amenities available in the room…or even available on their website, but we ended up walking the wrong way up the block, then turning around and going to the other end (in the wind and rain) to the closest restaurant I could find on the internet. Little did we know it was actually in the building and we didn’t even need to go outside 🙄. So, information (like hotels used to provide), would be nice.

Hotel has the old world charm with nicely appointed and furnished rooms. Lack of public restrooms in hotel lobby and parking was rough but otherwise I only have good things to say. Excellent food options nearby with Salt City Market across the street. For an upscale culinary experience check out Noble Cellar. A short walk or u er away.

The Marriott is a lovely hotel that retains its historic beginnings. The room doors are made of a beautiful wood with inlaid numbers. Our room was nice. It would have been a nicer stay if there were robes and slippers. Also, the safe is near the floor which makes it difficult to access. The employees were very nice, especially Elif at reception and Gonzolo in the M Club.

Off season visit so scored truly special rooms using Marriott nightly upgrades- executive suite WELL worth it! We had full mini conference room with wine fridge and half bath- perfect for hubby who's a prof. Dual head showers were fantastic. Appreciated carpeting bc it gets cold even with adjustable thermostats in every room. Disappointed that no nightly reception on Mondays. Lounge is great for non-upgrade stays as it's generally quiet and relaxing with nice selection of free non-alcoholic drinks and snacks (yeah, hummus and yogurt). Highly recommend chai latte from the machine. Microwave in there should be larger as it's the only one for the entire hotel! |Suggestions on room- make sofa bed convertible to bed so can do a proper movie night w/lounge popcorn or have space for caretaker (increases room use flexibility for multigenerational families). Also put a microwave SOMEWHERE in the massive rooms. And lotion in bathrooms bc winter weather requires mandatory after shower lotion! Also, at least for these class of rooms, robes, slippers and toiletry extras.|They really should have weekly, rather than once monthly tours, like NYC hotels. Or at least frequent themed tours- haunted Hotel Syracuse anyone? The hotel is just gorgeous and has so much fun history. It's convenient for MOST, axe-throwing and Erie Canal Museum.

Google
Prime location, friendly and helpful staff clean facilities. This hotel is frequented by local because it hosts a myriad of conferences and galas for many different local and national organization. It's right next to the main city bus terminal, and within walking distance of the theatre, the On Center, and right in the heart of downtown Syracuse. The proximity to the city's top coffee shops and restaurants make it a place. Living in Syracuse, I recommend this place as a great option.

Google
For a Marriott branded hotel, I expected a lot more. Mostly wear and tear to the facilities. Not dirty, just well worn. Needs an investment in the facilities. With digital check-in, I didn’t see the grand entrance until I walked around. Maybe don’t use digital check-in at this location?

Came here for a wedding reception. This historic hotel used to be the Syracuse hotel, which ended up being trashy back in the day. However, the hotel has been refurbished from what I understand with some better looking amenities. The event space that we were in was absolutely beautiful. Huge tall high ceilings great open space. Very conducive for wedding reception. The elevators were very very small and some of the decor looked outdated. The staff that served us and that we ran into were absolutely amazing. Very patient with the guests at this wedding reception. The immediate area around the hotel really has nothing as a draw. It's kind of like in the city with some construction nearby. I guess once the construction gets done and maybe business start coming back into the city it might be better? Cannot attest to any of the rooms.

Yelp
Yeah... I get why people book here but also would be very open to looking elsewhere next time I'm in town. This hotel gives every indication of a once well run hotel that now is resting on its laurels. Pros: The lobby is SO impressive and very gorgeous. One of the most fabulous lobbies ever. Seriously beautiful. Large spacious rooms and good interiors Clean Quiet Cons: - Rude desk staff - Poorly run valet - I waited so long for my car and then noticed the 3 guys hanging around doing nothing get yelled at by their manager. I saw him slip one of them a $20 and basically laugh at him to get off his butt and do his job. Managers having to bribe their own staff to do the job they're hired to do it uh... not great. Tipping valets is something I always do but these valets totally expect it and will not work unless there is sufficient tip. - Weird parking. The valet circle is located on a weird side of the building and it's confusing to get inside. - Shower pressure is mediocre. Overall it looks nice but I did not feel really accommodated or welcomed by the staff during my stay. I may look elsewhere next time.

Yelp
I stay at this hotel pretty often on layovers, as my company has a contract with the hotel. It is centrally located, and I love that there are a lot of things to do in the area. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, so I can see why there are so many weddings and events held here. With the hotel being over 100 years old, the history alone makes it worth a visit. Now that wwe got that out of the way, lets talk about the rooms. Beautifully decorated, spacious, and with everything you will need for a stay. Depending on the room, you have a full sitting area with a couch, nice chair, and a coffee table. Their is a desk to the right side of the room, between 2 large windows, that give you sweeping views of either the city, or the surrounding mountains. For the room I stayed in, the bathroom included a huge vanity with two sinks, a glass door walk in shower, and a separate area with the toilet. The entry way had enough room for a queen sized bed, and included a full sized closet, additional drawers, and an in room safe. The beds were comfortable, and against the far wall, with a nightstand in between and dimmer lights. There was an alarm clock provided, as well as ample plugs for your devices. Now to the not-so-good. The curtains on both of my windows were very tattered, with the one next to the bed I slept in looking like someone had ripped off the bottom, and there were several holes. I don't know if this was due to moths, or just natural wear and tear. While the beds were comfy, the pillows were inconsistent, As some were nearly flat, and some were super fluffy. I ended up stacking up all 5 pillows to use LOL. The shower design is awful. Most showers have sliding doors from both sides, and I get that this set up is to prevent someone possibly forgetting to full close the door closest to the shower head so that you don't get water everywhere, but its like playing chicken: you have to turn on the shower and run to prevent from being blasted with freezing cold water because the door closest to the shower head is locked in place. Weird. There is no microwave in the room, but there is one located downstairs behind the main check in area, in a little store that you can only enter via your room key. The store is awesome though, with anything you are craving that can be purchased. I got some chips, a hot pocket, and a coffee for the morning. Overall, the hotel meets your needs! Can't wait to stay again next week!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. Restaurant located inside the hotel, and Irish pub. Salt City Market is right across the street with lots of international foods. Need old fashioned doors and wood work. My only complaint was that my AC unit didn't work. It's about 67 degrees outside but was 76 in my room. I had the unit on AUTO and tried ON, it was set 66 and just wouldn't come down. (Not that I need my room cooler than 70, but was just trying to get it to cool down at all)

Yelp
Amazing! I've been here many times for events, weddings, etc. but this was my first time staying here. I absolutely loved it! Check in was very easy. Parking is a bit tricky here. They have 30 minute parking in front of the main door. The Marriott owns a nearby parking garage that isn't connected to the hotel. I wish it was connected to the hotel. It is two blocks away; the elevator was broken and the garage was dimly lit. Other than that, the staff here was very friendly and helpful. They were able to answer my questions and give me ideas of what to do in the area. There are two restaurants on the main floor of the hotel. One is a breakfast place; the other is a sports bar. Across the street, you can also find the Salt City Market, which has lots of shops, food options, coffee, a market and a bar. The rooms here were up to date, cozy and mostly quiet. I was here on a holiday weekend, so it was a bit busy and there were a lot of other people in the hotel. It is one of the best places to stay in CNY though. I will definitely be back! I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Attended a wedding here. The venue was beautiful and service was spectacular. Food and beverages were tasty too!

Yelp
The front desk people were just ok, no really customer service. We had paid for a higher level room and my profile is set to be away from the elevators yet we were on floor 4 and right across from the elevator. The rooms are ok, a little on the small side. And they must think everyone is 6ft or taller. The toilet, the sink vanity, the mirror on the side and especially the shower head and shampoo/conditioner dispensers are for tall people. And why would you not have the shower open closer to the on/off handle to the shower?? It is a cool older building! Love the doors to the rooms, would be nice if they provided a little info about what ventilate room meant (just for historical references). The only real plus is the water gets warm quick and the water pressure is good. The sliding door to the bathroom would start to slide open a few minutes after you entered. The set up is a little wonky. They have the mini fridge, a big chair and a very heavy side table (which I would think would be used as a desk or place to eat since there is no other option for either in the room) right in front of the window, so it is hard to open/close the curtain. The housekeeping staff were all nice. The valet staff was amazing! They were very helpful and thoughtful when loading bags. Usually there is some form of complimentary coffee but not here- had to pay for lukewarm warm coffee then tip on top of that! There was a coffee maker in room but no coffee or coffee cups.

Yelp
Its classic colonial style was nice. Everything was in great condition. They had real wood furniture. Not the flimsy fake wood furnishing. The place is classy and just very nice. The doors to the rooms look weird but it was very nice. The only problem was when you sit in the toilet the wall is 1 feet in front of you. And I kept banging my knees on the wood bed when I came from toilet to the bed.

Yelp
I idid an overnight stay while my husband was at Crouse Hospital. My stay was pleasant. Workers we're helpful. Room was nice, but with complaints. Both shear curtains in the sitting area were ripped and there was a possible soup - food stain on the rug next to the desk. It was like someone cleaned it up, but never washed the area and the toilet paper mount was broken. I showed issues to housekeeping the next day before I checked out. I did expected better cleanliness for the amount of money I was charged for the room. I was disappointed that Marriotts name was attached. I expected much better from them. Room 709

Yelp
If you're driving to Western New York to try and beat a once-in-a-generation storm, and you don't quiiiiiiiite beat it and need to stop, this is a good hotel to crash in for the night. I had asked my wife to find us a hotel that had a restaurant and a bar (the only things that mattered to me at the time), and was a little skeptical of her choice of the Marriott. I was so pleasantly shocked when we walked inside. This is not your average Marriott. This is the old Syracuse Hotel, and it's gorgeous. They've either kept or restored all the lovely details that they simply do not do anymore when they build. The lobby is massive, and perfect for two tiny girls (and one medium man) who have been cooped up in a car for six hours to run around in. The rooms are well-furnished with nice, Stickley furniture and brand new bathrooms. The Irish pub is attached so you can head over without going out in the weather, and we enjoyed our stay. Drawbacks: 1. Valet is pretty expensive, but only slightly less expensive than "self-park", which really makes valet a no brainer. But I'd rather park my own car, and don't really love getting charged a lot for the privilege. 2. You can't walk in and book a room. The lady at the front desk was unable to take my credit card and ID and get us a room. I had to go sit down 10 feet away, book online, and then come back. This seems silly.

Yelp
This was...an experience. First, we arrived late the evening of our checkin and when we did, they charge us for two rooms for two nights for $1,300 PER ROOM. This was more than 265% the amount of the promised reservation. Additionally their system had us booked for 3 rooms not two (this was corrected on his end without issue and said their system sometimes does this). When we questioned the amount per room the gentleman said the rooms were now $500 per night per room. He also proceeded to tell me they were completely sold out and basically there were no other options for us. While we were checking in, another couple approached and asked if they could get a room to which he said yes and charged them $480 (and they agreed to the cost - no it isn't worth it). This was after he said they were totally sold out, so I guess totally is a suggestion. I had all the paperwork printed so I went back down (now it is close to 1am) and showed it to the gentleman who just shrugged like "it is what it is" and it didn't really matter. Fortunately, the night manager was there and when he pulled up our reservation, he said the system will often default to charge $500 per night and if staff approves it, the change of price can be made without customer's approval. He said they were working on the "glitch in the system." After about 15 minutes, he said he corrected the charge and we would only see the correct amount now. In the morning the $1,300 remained on each of our rooms. We went down and questioned the charge again, but this time, the day manager was aghast and couldn't believe they had charged us this. I will say, the day manager was highly apologetic, professional and helpful to correct the issue. New receipts were printed out returning the more than $1,700 of overcharges. Thank you sir, for being the one bright light in this mess. But wait, there's more. The bath shower gel was empty. I asked for some but they said they were far too busy and would try to get some brought up sometime. I said I was waiting to take a shower and so after a pause of frustration, they said they would bring it up. I then came to discover the shower gel provided was broken and did not open. When we took it down they too found it to be broken and said they would send more up (why they couldn't give us some while we were at the desk, I don't know.) By the afternoon, no shower gel had been brought up and I called again. They said they would send one right up. Again, nothing. By the end of the day, I called one more time, at this point, I just wanted to see what would happen; it had become comical...I didn't know how comical until the man arrived at my door, not with shower gel, but with bar had soap, you know, the small soaps you wash your hand with, yes that one. He quickly closed the door and off he went. No shower gel ever appeared and perhaps that will forever be a great mystery. I am sorry next occupant, this is now your journey. Unfortunately, my single star is for the one kind day manager that corrected the over-billing, but for the rest of the staff, perhaps another field of business that has nothing to do with customer service may be a better fit.

Yelp
Attended a fundraising event last night for a local canine adoption agency, 2nd Chance Adoptions. The event was in the ballroom, not sure how much renovation had to be done, (from the old Hotel Syracuse, especially being empty for many years) but it was beautiful. Every one of the employees I encountered, whether serving, bartending or cleaning were friendly and helpful and professional. There were 2 nice displays with crackers, cheese, veggies and nuts, etc. Dinner was a very good buffet of salad, two types of pasta with choice of red sauce or Alfredo, a chicken dish, and they carved roast beef and turkey. Everything I ate was prepared very nicely and seasoned well.

Yelp
What a great hotel. I was worried at first because self parking seems a bit weird and sketchy, but once I got in the hotel, I was very amazed by the historic rooms. You have to explore the hotel, especially the ballroom on the top floor. The staff was friendly and didn't seem to mind us roaming around at night. The have a little history area one floor up from the lobby. The room was a little small, but comfortable. I will definitely be back next time I pass through Syracuse.

Scott B.

Yelp
Terrible service. We arrived at 2 pm knowing check in was at 4. We were told there were no clean rooms but we'd have one by 3:30. That was fine. Even at 4 would have been great but we had to be at the wedding rehearsal by 5. The hotel was hosting the reception, and dozens of wedding guests (and we have Marriott status) we still didn't get our room until after 6 pm! No apologies. No offer of any assistance. Just sarcasm and attitude. If the reception wasn't scheduled here we would have left and stayed elsewhere. The place is old, dirty, literally broken, and rundown. There are lots of other, better AND less expensive options in Syracuse where you can check in on time and the staff are pleasant. You will be wise to choose a different hotel. This one is several decades past its prime.

Yelp
If you want to see what Syracuse was like during it's industrial heyday this is exhibit A. The city will come back again with Micron's arrival combined with the healthcare facilities and the colleges.. The location is close to the hockey arena (War Memorial) as well as a very cool international food court a block away. Just a beautiful lobby inside the hotel. Also a nice M Club breakfast for the Platinum and Titanium members.

Yelp
A magnificent building from 1922. Marriott restored the former Hotel Syracuse a number of years ago. This would be a flagship building if it could support the size. It looks fantastic but isn't top flight Marriott. Nothing horrible but have to track down a valet, 10 mins to checkout needing a printed receipt with 5 people milling behind counter. Some room carpet stains. BUT I still had a good stay and would go back. Staff is friendly undoubtably.
google avatar

Yelp
I arrive for a conference with a reservation but there is no room for me. I did arrive very late but the woman told me there were 6 people with reservations and no rooms. SMH. They send me to another hotel, courtyard for the night so that was fine. It was a bit frustrating BUT Caroline saved the day. Her customer service is 10/10. She is calm and polite and just a pleasure. She got me back in this hotel for the second night so that was great! The hotel is beautiful in that it's restored and the wood work is gorgeous. The rooms are nice and updated with the original doors which are so cool. The valet attendants were awesome! I'd recommend

Yelp
Very beautiful hotel and lobby that gives rich, sophisticated, old money vibes. You should expect nothing less from Upstate New York! The rooms were spacious and beautiful and the architecture of the door frames to the rooms was so unique and cool. The door is almost rounded, it's hard to describe but it was definitely beautiful. The location is right downtown, I got the opportunity to walk around a bit, it was beautiful! You're around a lot of businesses and establishments which is good if you have no vehicle. If you're in the area I would definitely consider staying here. I only deducted one star because the bathtub wasn't as clean as I would've liked. It wasn't disgustingly dirty, just some dust that I was able to clean out. Other than that, I loved the hotel and the room!

Yelp
Went to the VERY expensive easter brunch this morning. At $50+ per person, very disappointing. Although the menu looked amazing, presentation was sadly lacking. The ballroom was freezing when we were shown to our table. Unacceptable really. At these prices they could at least try to make you comfortable. The omelet station was a complete mess. One girl trying to handle 4 different orders cooked on pathetic little burners. With so many staff, why was she left on her own? Eventually after 15 minutes I gave up completely and left the growing line. Decided to do the traditional instead. Scrambled, home fries etc. Don't know whether it was already cold or the freezing walk back to the dining area did it but it was cold and inedible by the time I came to eat it. Especially the freezing soggy home fries... The banana foster bread pudding was supposed the have had some kind of a warm liquid topping with it but that wasn't there either. Complete washout really. There's a hundred dollars and 2 hours of my life I won't get back. Talk about taking the piss...

Yelp
What an experience in this beautifully restored historic hotel. Started with self parking on the hotel's garage, which is several blocks away from the hotel and across from the bus station. Upon checking in we asked how parking charges are handled when we will be coming and going. The front desk clerk told us that we'd need to pay each time we leave so for in-out privileges we should use the valet. This should be clearly explained ahead of time. Next we go up to our room which was a small corner room with a bed so high I needed to step onto the small settee to get on the bed ( I am 5 foot 6 inches). Used the bathroom and our toilet did not flush. We had plans so stopped at the desk on our way out and reported the toilet broken- an engineer was sent up and fixed that. I returned to the room a couple of hours later and found myself searching for what was making a loud ticking noise. Scary right... Found the culprit- a safe bolted to the floor under the bed that was blinking and ticking and could not be locked, turned off, unplugged. - there is no plug. 2nd engineer visit- literally said "oh this is strange" and said next that he'd be back with "parts" Engineer visit number three stopped the ticking safe and I met my husband at Shaugnessey's for a drink. Which was served to me in a plastic cup! Finally hoisted myself into bed only to be woken up at 5 am by the alarm that I guess the previous guest had set and housekeeping left on. Never again

Yelp
This hotel located in a building from 1924 is perfectly located in downtown Syracuse. The hotel is within walking distance of many restaurants and historic sites including Clinton Square. It is also within 15 min drive from the airport. My room located on the 9th floor was newly remodeled, clean and cozy. Hotel offers valet parking at $18 / night with in/out option.

Yelp
Spent a quick night in Syracuse while touring the Finger Lakes region in upstate New York. I understand this property used to be the Hotel Syracuse before Marriott was involved. This is no cookie cutter property. I don't know who did the restoration but it is obvious Marriott takes great pains to keep this beautiful property in immaculate condition. As a Titanium elite guest I was pleased with my suite upgrade. Furnished in an "Art Deco Craftsman" style, the room was spacious and comfortable. I think most of us have become "clean freaks" if we weren't already in the last year. Marriott's housekeeping did a fine job as our room was spotless. It's nice to see the bar and restaurant in the hotels finally open. Our breakfast was good as was the service. The concierge lounge (called "M Clubs" at many Marriotts) still is not open and there was no idea when it would be. One thing that is evident however is hotel staffs are happy to see guests returning. My only frustration was the parking situation. If you don't valet park (no one drives my car!!) you self park in a garage across the street. When you take limited entrances and exits into consideration, it's a several minute walk back to the hotel. (Valet and self park options are reasonably priced given the downtown location). I was going to subtract a star for this but came to this realization: a. Original hotel was not built with a garage and, b. if you're going to stay downtown, that's what you have to expect. I will definitely come back to this property if I return to Syracuse. The downtown area near the hotel looks like a great place to explore.

Yelp
The hotel itself was beautiful, but service was terrible. we were part of large wedding party where the ceremony was being held there. Their planner was used. Pictures were at 3pm, ceremony at 4:30. Our room wasn't ready so we couldn't get dressed in time. We asked the man at the front when he thought we could get in and he was very rude and sarcastic. He said it would be ready by 4. We ended up changing in other people's rooms while they were changing. At 6, we called the desk and the man was very sarcastic again. At 6:15 we finally got into our room. The man at desk said they'd text us when it was ready, they didn't. The next morning we went down to breakfast. The young girl seating guests told us "you can't eat here". Why not? They were full. Is that really how to say that? For $300 a night, why am I paying $20 for the breakfast buffet? I can't recommend the Syracuse Marriott downtown. Beautiful place but rude staff and terrible service.

Kat N.

Yelp
The hotel was very quiet. My room was on the 9th floor. It was very spacious. Bed was comfortable. Air conditioning unit was quiet. Fridge and coffee maker in room. Hotel is 100 years old. Well maintained. The shower handle was inside of the shower. The glass was fixed next to operating handle and couldn't be moved. You have to get wet with cold water to operate. Terrible design. Room service was much to be desired. Wrong food was delivered. Had to wait for current food took much much longer than expected. Knowing my layover was short I ordered as soon as I got in. Huge disappointment. Staff was friendly.

Yelp
Pros: The hotel was very pretty inside , lots of amazing wood work and cool statues. *Close to Upstate medical Cons: The room was subpar . The grout on the floor was disgusting especially around the toilets. But the worst of all was the parking.. $10-$17 for parking at a hotel is just plain old ridiculous. And trying to find the entrance of the hotel was like a mystery. Once you do find the entrance , make sure you get inside before 8pm or they will lock the main entrance. I'm not sure how you'll get in after that . The lobby is up a giant flight of stairs so they can't see you down there and it's creepy at night ( anyone could hide down there ) . The area around the hotel is sketchy also. They also keep their dumpsters right outside of the hotel which they collected on late Sunday/early Monday morning -such a nice wake- up call... not ! Night staff was also snooty.. especially the blonde . I wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
An hour and half later they claimed that they found one and I have to go down stairs to pick it up with my pajama. Not only this, they gave me a faulty one doesn't even work. I can't believe Marriott has gone down this far. Will request a detail survey to be filled in from Bonvoy... Ok I'm waiting for a hairdryer that suppose to in my bathroom and there isn't one so I can dry my hair after a business day...it's been an hour...it's almost mid night, I really want to go to sleep.

Yelp
We traveled to Syracuse due to the tragic death of my mom's twin sister. I reserved a larger room so we would be comfortable for 4 days; other family members from out of town also booked rooms at this hotel to be close to us. I sent a note to the hotel about our circumstances, tell them our flight would get in very late, and asked for a quiet room. They assured me we were all set. We arrived at the hotel after 1 a.m. Parking was atrocious and it took forever to actually get INTO the hotel. My sister and I did not feel safe dragging our luggage from the parking garage (several blocks away) to the hotel at this hour (and in the snow). Once there, we were told our room had been given away because "SU students get priority." Uhhh...I'm sorry? What are reservations and loyalty programs for? We were given a small room with a pull-out couch, handed a bag of sheets (two top sheets for the cot; no comforter), three tiny bottles of water (no food available), and sent on our way. We made up the cot ourselves in the middle of the night so my sister could sleep. We checked out the next day, and the rest of my family changed their reservations to our new hotel. The young lady at the desk when we checked out was very sweet and apologetic (if not embarrassed), and she took half off the one-night bill. We were welcomed and treated amazingly well by the new hotel with a caring staff, pantry to purchase necessities after hours, clean, large rooms that were MUCH more affordable, safe parking, and the room we reserved was magically available when we arrived. This whole experience has honestly almost swayed me to become a Hilton member and to be loyal to them going forward. I have two Marriott reservations coming up in the next two months that I'm considering cancelling, truly showing that one really bad experience after a lifetime of good, can really have an impact. Aside from all that, the hotel is very pretty, but old. Old is fine when cleaned and updated appropriately, and this could use a deep cleaning. Location did not seem great in the middle of the night. Room was ok but not the size we needed. Shower was nice. The parking situation was awful, especially when traveling with older folks. Not convenient at all. In short, we knew this trip was going to be horrific for many reasons. I didn't believe Marriott would be part of that. Do better.

Yelp
Unbelievably loud hotel. There is a prom going on right now and there is music blasting so loud that it is making my room shake. I called the front desk and they did give me a new room, but I have to bee up in 5 hours so having to pack and unpack my stuff was not fun. I am now on a different floor and I can still hear the pounding music.

Yelp
It works. It works well. However, having never been to the Syracuse area before, I thought I would be coming to a more modern experience. The architecture is interesting. Someone I was with called it a hotel like the one in the Shining. Yes, I could see why they felt that way. That in itself is nothing to ding a hotel on, but there are numerous areas where this hotel needs a refresh. Fitted sheets that crept off the mattress, carpets that looked like they needed to be replaced, AC that barely worked in one room of a suite but was fine in the other, etc. Like everything I did in Syracuse, people seemed to be extremely friendly and helpful. There are some odd artifacts of COVID -- like no one can bring anything up to your room, like a bottle of water. However, if you ask for AC maintenance, they come up and enter your room, or you can still get linens delivered. All of that is transitory in nature and will change at some point, hopefully for the better. Something that is not going to change no matter how much refreshing they do is the size and layout of rooms, such as bathrooms that have very little counter space to place anything down on. In summary, however, if you need a place to stay downtown or near the university, this is still a great option.

Yelp
If your traveling alone and afraid of being in a place with a high crime rate definitely find another hotel outside of the Downtown Syracuse area because this area is super sketchy! Even valet parking was confusing. As that entrance is in the back alley and you have to take an elevator up the stairs to the lobby area. The lobby area has registers like an old bank. Anyways.... super questionable area nearby and they charge for valet parking with in and out but if you self park it's in a bad garage you have to walk across the street and you can't go in and out. Definitely valet the car and don't leave the hotel! The room itself is fine. That's why they get 3 star because it's a Marriott but if you could avoid this location please do so ! I certainly will when traveling next time.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my quick stay at this historic hotel in the heart of downtown Syracuse! I arrived in the middle of the night during a snowstorm seeking respite. Yes, that sounds dramatic but it was a long day of travel, trust me. There's nothing I wanted more than a comfy bed and nice room. That's exactly what I got. My room was pretty small but felt fresh and new. As mentioned, the bed was super comfy, especially the pillows! The bathroom was sizable and had great amenities from THANN. Other highlights were the smart TV so you could connect your personal Netflix account, desk space, and big window for some natural light. Besides the room, the hotel had other great things going on including an updated and spacious gym with all the equipment you may need. It even had an interactive TV loaded with classes to work out to, as well as spare headphones, apples, cold and dry towels, and sparkling and still water. Super impressive! For eats, there's a Cafe Kubal at the bottom which is where I snagged breakfast, as well as another restaurant/bar and room service. I would definitely come back the next time I'm in need of a hotel in Syracuse!

Yelp
Terrible. Worst decision was booking with this place for my wedding. Prejudiced and dishonest staff, specifically Kayla Sawyer. Her incompetence with numbers is either extremely questionable or outright embarrassing. Every so often, random expenses were accrued. She could not calculate 2+2. Was on vacation almost every week, never picked up the phone, dodged my questions unless she was chasing me for money. After I signed the contract, the cracks began to show. Staff made color decisions without confirming first, and I received zero guidance whatsoever on the menu prior to closing everything, only after was it mentioned that I could've ordered more expensive options to save on my contract total overall. The staff even refused to provide my family with the $9k + of food and canned bevs we paid for, that they kept, we tried to reschedule but they wanted another $12,500+. To keep the food, is truly diabolical. What a waste of humanity this place is.

Yelp
I miss this place when I can't stay here. All the other marriotts in the area are a little bit off and don't really feel personable or warm. This place though, everyone is so kind, thoughtful, and understanding when you have an issue or you ask a question. I never feel like I'm bothering anyone, and they're always more than happy to help with a smile. The housekeeping is also amazing! They write you a cute note to make sure you know where they put everything, and also fold your clothes (what?!) when you've been super messy (unfortunately, always for me. I also love the gym which is on the 11th floor, and despite it not having a peloton, there's weights, bikes, treadmills, everything you could want on top of a beautiful view. It's also super clean with a water filling station and towels. Eleven waters, the restaurant attached, also has kind servers that aren't pushy and incredibly hospitable. Makes it so easy when you're in a pinch and there's food right downstairs. Not sure the hours, but yesterday they were open til 1am! Only downside is the parking. It's 19 to park in their parking lot across the street, or 25 w valet. Gonna continue to be a regular customer. Thanks Marriott downtown!

Yelp
We were booked to stay at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown, unfortunately we were bumped from our flight. This threw off our schedule and we were unable to make our reservation for our hotel stay. After contacting Bonvoy customer support they submitted a ticket to have our cancellation looked at by a, Mr. Don Shilling, the director of operations at this hotel, unfortunately he refused to reimburse us for our missed reservation. I called and left a polite message to return my message and discuss his refusal to refund our reservation. He never responded. BEWARE of this hotel, I recommend staying at several of the other hotels in the area. The staff is rude and dismissive.

Yelp
Such a unique property from the Marriott chain of hotels. They have done a good job at maintaining what looks to be the original architecture and charm of the old, blended with all of the modern creature comforts we've come to expect. Definitely one of the better lodging options within the city.

Yelp
Gorgeous hotel in a great location. Very pleased with my first stay in Syracuse. Room was very nice and AC worked great. Hotel staff was very friendly. I enjoyed the restaurants and shops within walking distance. The hotel is really beautiful if you appreciate historic preservation. The hotel room doors alone are so beautiful. Will definitely be back if I need to stay in the area again.

Yelp
My traveling lover and I stayed a total of four nights from Monday to Friday. Upon arrival, the valet was extremely friendly, willing to assist, and answered several questions about the area's offerings. Walking up the stairs to the main lobby, we were stunned by the roaring 20's era décor along with the concert grand piano and several ornate chandeliers. There were multiple sitting rooms, ballrooms and two attached restaurants for dining. Upon reaching the fourth floor we admired the period photography spread throughout the hallways showing construction, renovations and historic living. The ornate doors, brought up to modern standards were a welcome touch and maintained the upscale look of the original hotel accommodations. Upon reaching our room the initial magic of the hotel quickly started to fade. We were given Room 414, a corner room overlooking the local art university. The lighting in the entryway was vastly inadequate, especially when trying to use the coffee maker during early morning, not wanting to use the main light and wake up my still asleep lover. There was no refrigerator in the room, and after speaking with co-workers staying in the hotel our room seemed to be one of the few without one. The ice bucket which we had to use to keep our White Claws cold was of poor quality, with the ice melting very quickly. There were holes in the sheets, from thumb sized to tears at the corners larger than a grapefruit. We mentioned this to the management right after checking in and were told the issue would be fixed, however the issue was never fixed. The amount of effort to restore the room was not the same effort which was put into the common areas around the lobby. The crown molding around the windows was detaching from the roof, leaving several obvious gaps. There were remnants of previous water damage repairs which looked as if they had simply been painted over with poorly matched paint. The bathroom provided the biggest disappointment. The sliding barn-style door was a nice touch, but seemed to be the lone bright spot. For starters, there was no fan, and even though there was a window, the locking mechanisms were broken, and we couldn't crack the window for ventilation. The toilet paper dispenser was either broken, not installed correctly, or was simply a very poor design. This led both of us to simply remove the roll and place it on the windowsill. The shower has a fixed sliding glass door, so when you go to turn on the water, you have no choice but to get immediately blasted by cold water. There were remnants of shampoo and conditioner dispensers in the shower. They did not completely finish removing them, which highlights the half efforts made to maintain the entire room. During day four, the housekeepers came through the room to replace towels and take out the trash. The staff of course ignored the early sheet issue I brought to attention on the first day. They appeared to clean the room next to ours. The reason I know this is they left sheets and towels outside their room in the hallway which was right next to ours for over 24 hours. The final disappointment came when I checked out. They did not properly account for the room on my receipt, and I now have to contact them again to fix their error in order to submit the receipt for work. While the room itself was disappointing, there were a couple things I liked about the hotel. The gym on the 11th floor had state of the art equipment, and was always well stocked with water and towels. The location of the hotel was perfect for our needs. We were able to enjoy several trips across the street to the Salt City Market to try a host of local flavors from several international restaurants. We also enjoyed being able to take a short walk to see multiple buildings with classic architecture while stopping at incredible restaurants along the way. Overall, we had mixed feelings about the hotel, for while beautiful, historic and well placed, the room itself was a disappointment, especially given the price point. From the lack of maintenance and poor customer service, it appears staff do not take pride in their work or care much about the customer experience.

Yelp
Have stayed there multiple times and was one of my favorite hotels. Unfortunately, the rooms are getting rundown. Stained couches and carpets plus worn out sheets. Really disappointed with my stay.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel last week. Horrible experience. Room was dirty. Surfaces not cleaned. Black spots on cups. No shampoo in shower. Clerk did not care when told about the problem. Wrote to the hotel and the general manager made things right--so I have added another star.

Yelp
What a treat to stay in such a beautiful hotel with such a glorious past. I realize it's unusual to say this but there was nothing in the hotel that was negative at all. Marriott did an amazing job of restoring this hotel back to the 1920 era. As soon as we drove up there the bellhop who took our bags and brought everything right to our room which was already prepared for us. Check in was an absolute snap. You could tell the hotel had been renovated and oh what a job that they did, the rooms are beautiful and very very modern. It was extremely spacious plenty of closet space to put away all your clothes. I was especially happy to see such a large bathroom with very large walk-in shower. Food was wonderful and I really enjoyed the Marriott 'M' club which really gave a little something extra special to our stay. I went there in the mornings for breakfast and it was truly a complete variety of breakfast foods. We were there for convention so we were part of a 300 people group. All the ballrooms for forums were perfect and giving one forum myself, I really enjoyed the fact that the projector was hanging from the ceiling, all prepared. All I had to do is plug in my computer and I was ready to go. For our larger meetings, there was ample space, plenty of light, good projection for the two screens that were up and wonderful sound. Our big Gala dinner was in the Grand Ballroom which was absolutely magnificent. This hotel was built in the 1920s and was just a beautiful beautiful hotel. I really don't want to forget about the team that work here and everyone was absolutely fantastic. There was nothing anybody wouldn't do to help find a location or help me carry something, or just smile as they walk by and say hello. It's clear that a lot of thought and effort went into the restoration this hotel and the staff definitely is top notch. There are a couple of restaurants here that are trendy with great food. Generally these types of hotels have a very institutionalized food but I must say everything looked wonderful, great presentations and tasted fantastic. If you're in the Syracuse area, this is definitely and hotel to stay at or at a minimum take a tour through.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel to look around. Love the old fashioned valet doors. But not practical to stay. Air conditioner is loud. All noise from hallway is easily heard from the room. Doors slam shut loudly.

Yelp
I would give zero star if that was an option. I had the absolute worse experience in my life with this hotel. My coworker and I booked two nights in Marriott between 6/25 & 6/27. There was a thunderstorm this past weekend and messed up all the NYC area airports and travelers. It is all around the news. Hundreds of delayed and cancelled flights. Me and my co-worker's flight was a late night 11pm flight. Due to the storm, it was delayed 6 hours. As soon as I know that there was a delay, I called the hotel and told them about delay and make sure that I can still check in even if I may arrive after 3am. I called them multiple time as my flight was keep delaying to a later time. They told me no worry. They will check me in. However, my flight got cancelled at the end. After the 6 hours wait in the airport, I left the airport and drove 5 hours from NYC to Syracuse and arrived the hotel. I was super exhausted after I arrive the hotel the other day and just wanted to take a rest. When i check in, the front desk told me that because I arrived late, they cancelled my entire reservation for two nights, regardless I already paid for the two nights of hotel and called them regarding my delayed flight. They told me that the hotel was fully booked and there is no room for me and no refund because I book it through expedia. The funny thing is, she said that if we reserved through their official website, she can give one room to us and I have to share the room with my co-worker. In other words, there was available room!!! but she just didn't give it to us!!! We had to move our luggages out and move to another hotel very last minute during a thunderstorm. Please! I told you that I may arrive after 3am. If you are going to cancel my reservation if I can't arrive by a certain time, let say 6am the next day, would you notify me? Be honest, I didn't even know that a hotel could do that to a customer. I have never experience this before. They took my money and let someone book my room again to make twice the profit out of the same room? This is absolutely ridiculous and furious. I didn't book a cheap hotel, I booked a Marriott. I have expedia agent contacted the hotel, and they still said no refund... PLEASE help me to understand under your policy, what should a traveler/customer do if they have delayed flight? Nothing, but we should just agree to give you our money and lose our rooms. Do you think that fair to your customers? I would report this to customer affair. In short, if you don't want to lose your money and your room for no reason. Don't book this place.

Yelp
Husband and I had an over night get away this past week and were both pleased and unpleased! We checked into a room on the second floor only to find that the two windows over looked a black roof and that was all you could see from from the windows making the room very dark! We went back to the front desk to ask for a room that you could see out of!! The front desk was very understanding and gave us keys to a larger room on the same floor that you could see out of the windows and had a view of the down town! Our only other problem was the shower. It is a large modern shower but the floor needs a non slip mat or perhaps some non-slip strips put on the floor. It was a step back in time for me as I grow up in Syracuse and loved seeing how they have saved the hotel!

Yelp
I traveled up to Syracuse this past weekend for one of my college friends' wedding, and a block of rooms were reserved here at Marriott Syracuse Downtown. Being a fan of cities in general, I was excited to be staying in the middle of it all, and all my experiences at Marriotts before were good so it seemed like a win-win. What I found when I got to the hotel really exceeded my expectations. It was unbeknownst to me beforehand that this Marriott branch is a completely restored, historic hotel formerly known as Hotel Syracuse. A book in my room told of how the hotel used to be one of the vibrant spots of the city, but over the years it fell into disarray - being passed on from developer to developer until Marriott bought, restored, and reopened it late last year. Because of that deep history, the hotel is exploding with character; the details in the lobby, elevators, and hallways were so intricate and full of character that I couldn't stop looking - truly stunning and a feast for the eyes. Marriott did a good job updating the facilities while still keeping the character of the hotel. A good example of this was my room door which still had some of the old "service please" and ventilator buttons from the hotel's previous life. The hotel also has three (?) ballrooms as well as two bars and a restaurant on the first floor. There were only a couple of details that left something to be desired for me. While my room was great, there was no full-length mirror (I know, nit-picky), also I would like to see a bigger variety of food options in the hotel (which they seem to be working on). Also, something worth noting is that the hotel doesn't have a parking lot - just valet and a garage. They charge you for garage parking every time you leave the lot - I believe the most I paid for a single parking interval was $18 (when I kept my car parked overnight). Overall, I'm a fan of this hotel - lots of character and a growing number of accommodations right in the heart of Syracuse. If I ever found myself in the Cuse again I would definitely look into staying here again.

Yelp
Having been to cuse a handful of times I personally only come when I HAVE to. This was one of those times...BUT luckily I stayed at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown. Being that I have my own views and opinions of the city I really wasn't expecting much at all, but upon arrival I had to pinch myself when I walked through the doors. I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. The lobby was very impressive and before I even walked up the stairs to check in I was in awe. The whole vibe/decor is very historic feeling but it's paired very well with a "new" feel as well. Many of the other reviews have mentioned this and have posted pictures as well. -Service: 5/5, every single staff member I encountered was kind, courteous, and eager to help. -Food: 3/5, I ordered room service when I arrived and the food was pretty good. Nothing great, but good. Fast delivery to the room as well. The breakfast was your standard continental (eggs, bacon, hash browns, muffins, etc.) -Room: 4/5, I was actually very impressed with the room, it was a nice size, big TV, comfortable bed, nice bathroom/shower, the only reason I can't give it a 5 is because I had no fridge. Not a big deal though. -Location: 5/5, walking distance to Dinosaur BBQ, and tons of other restaurants & bars. Overall, I have to say that I've been pretty well traveled and stayed at many hotels...and it pains me to say this, BUT this was hands down one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in. Really is a beautiful place and made this trip to the city actually enjoyable. As much as I dislike the city, I may book another trip again just to stay a few nights here :)

Yelp
It's a beautiful night We're looking for something dumb to do Hey baby I think I wanna Marriott I spent half a night in this Marriott once and it was okay. Well it was a really comfortable room, but it better be, considering all the money that she paid for it in my humble opinion. I usually get cheaper hotel rooms in this and honestly there isn't that much difference between a $50 room and this one when it comes down to it. But don't tell any of the people staying here that because it will sound to them either facetious or like they wasted a ton of money, and in either case that can't be good.

Douglas B.

Yelp
Stayed here for a work trip. It was booked by the company and was supposed to be an ADA Accessible Room with a roll in shower. The room was very nice and spacious, however the shower was very narrow and difficult to use. There was not a bench in the shower but I had brought my own. After transferring bro the bench my knees were almost touching the wall in front of me. The sad part is they had plenty of room to make it bigger as the bathroom was very large. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and is was fair. We also had a dinner at the hotel that was terrible. This was not what I expect from a Marriott Hotel. Very disappointed!

Yelp
Beautifully renovated hotel. They kept a lot of the antique features which adds to the ambiance. Good location downtown. The bad. Overpriced. No parking unless you pay $20/day for valet. They have parking marked for guests checking in but the valet complains about you using it for that which is flat out annoying and bizarre. They have a crappy Irish bar restaurant on the ground floor. We came in late and their full menu, which they were supposed to have was replaced by a poor excuse for a bar menu. The place is frat party loud and very difficult to get someone to wait on you and get a drink. The place sucks and should be removed. Lastly, the rooms have super cool curved wooden antique doors which look amazing. But, our neighbor a few doors down had their lock malfunction and was unable to get back in their room. We had to endure listening to the maintenance guy hammering it and using a crow bar for an hour trying to break in. Crazy. And a seriously dangerous safety issue. If they needed to get in for an emergency, or even the fire dept. they would not be able to. What if a young child was locked inside. So very dangerous. Workout room pretty good but only 2 bikes
