On the Grid : Marstons

"If you live in Pasadena, you have probably been to Marston's- but you have definitely seen the line in front of it. The line partially obscures the old charming cottage facade. Marston's is a popular breakfast and brunch spot opened back in 1987. It is cozy and home-y. If you have a free morning, and don't mind a line, the brunch is indeed worth the wait. Pulled pork benedict and french toast should get the job done- but just to be sure, get an extra side of Grandma's oatmeal to line your ribs." - OSSO

"It's a Front Porch Kind of Morning This cozy little restaurant is the perfect place to start your day. Enjoy your morning coffee on the front porch, and try the French toast—heavenly. Marston's has all sorts of options for breakfast and lunch, and—if you call them in advance—they'll even make you a picnic basket to go."

We had breakfast here and it was delicious! I had a California omelette and my fiancé had the brisket and eggs. Paired it with a yummy mimosa! it was so good. Everything is fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant!

I went for brunch with my husband and three children aged 7, 4, and 1. The restaurant atmosphere was very nice, and we ate outside on the patio -- they quickly moved tables around to accommodate us outside as we requested. The food was average and the coffee below average, and I was unpleasantly surprised by the cost. It was nearly $80 US for middling diner fare -- very overpriced! But a nice place if money is no object.

Google
A fantastic breakfast/brunch option in a cozy setting. The food was delicious and well prepared. Staff are very nice and welcoming. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu consists of all of the classic breakfast options. Overall a great and filling experience.

Enjoyed the patio seating in the morning, was more calm and quiet having seen how crowded it was inside. I enjoyed my omelette very much. I did try a bite of the pulled pork eggs Benedict, not much flavor there. They do have their own parking lot, but it’s very small. There is some street parking available. Wasn’t aware of the 3% surcharge for using a credit card.

Google
Definitely one of the most popular breakfast restaurants in all of Pasadena. It’s very laid-back and you feel as if you are eating inside someone’s home. The wait times are never as long here as some other restaurants close by but also it’s not the best option in town. Russell‘s, a few blocks away, is the best breakfast in Pasadena in my opinion, but Marston’s is still worth visiting. They have an extremely tiny and narrow parking lot with free parking otherwise it will be street parking. They have a fairly large menu filled with a lot of good options and our server was very polite. Inside is not very large and just has table seating, there is not a counter. The food here is good, but not great. For my first visit I chose the special - Crab Cake Benedict and thought it was just OK. The crabcakes did not have as much flavor as I had recently and I really did not enjoy the side of potatoes. I would suggest offering hashbrowns instead. I also felt it was a bit overpriced for what we got in return and honestly I don’t think I would visit again given the other breakfast options close by.

Google
This place serves classic American food, best known for their breakfast and lunch. Their French toast is quite famous. The menu has not changed much in the last few years . My California omelette was delicious but came out really oily. The potatoes were also oily and were not evenly cooked. So sad about the quality of the food today.

Google
Delightful, cozy little restaurant with exceptional service. We ordered California omelet and French toast. Savory and sweet. Coffee and toast was great. Can’t wait to return soon.

Google
Lovely little hidden gem for breakfast dishes. The French toast is one of the best I’ve ever had. An absolute must-try. Update: recently visited the restaurant for Sunday brunch and decided to try some non-breakfast items. We had the regular burger, the crispy chicken sandwich, and the rio grande tuna melt. They were all great. We all especially liked the refreshing side Jicama salad. I highly recommend adding the caramelized onions and chipotle peppers to the tuna melt. I have to mention, the service was very slow. Servers were helpful and nice, just a little slow. We had to wait quite a while even though there weren’t many customers at the restaurant.

Yelp
Nice place for a bite. However, the food is fine, just not amazing. Be sure to ask for a soft scramble omelet if you don't want to be served an omelet where the egg is cooked well done. Service was excellent and friendly. That was a plus. Parking lot is small, so may have to find street parking nearby.

Yelp
My husband and I were in town visiting and met a friend here. She raved about the cornflake-crusted French toast. It's a cozy place and it seems to be very popular. Service was fast and friendly. We had the French toast (one with berries and nuts and one with berries and bananas) and the macadamia nut pancakes. The French toast was OK but not stellar. The coating was nice but the bread was not soaked in the milk and egg dip enough to give it a good flavor. The pancakes were plain, a bit tasteless, with a sprinkling of macadamia nuts on top of the pile. (Hubby expected it to be in the batter of the pancake or at least throughout the layers.) Breakfast for three with beverages, tax, and tip was $88.

Yelp
The eggs Benedict were so good and the sauce had great flavor and was silky smooth. The wait staff is attentive without being overbearing. One of my faves in Pasadena!

Yelp
Well this place is a very real OG Pasadena classic. Don't blink you might miss it tucked away just off E. Walnut across from Memorial Park and a half block from Raymond. I know it's mostly known for its fabulous breakfasts but I go for the American club sandwich which is FANTASTIC. Made just the way I like it. Service is always smiles , super courteous and very attentive. Just like the old times. If you want a solid spot in Pasadena look no further. Solid, Solid, Solid...

Yelp
Located at a super cute house! They have a small parking lot shared with a law office and I was lucky to grab a spot. Came on a Friday afternoon with a friend. Asian chicken salad and fries were good. Service was okay. They do charge 3% if you use a credit card just a heads up.

Mathew C.

Yelp
I had the Rio Grande Tuna Melt. Not being a fan of tuna salad, I was stepping out of my comfort zone. Adding the chipotle peppers and onions is a must. I truly loved this sandwich. There were lots of flavors in every bite. Marston's is a down home pantry with good service.

Yelp
I parked by the corner parking lot as their back parking was full. You pay with the QR code which was very convenient *take a pic of qr code as you enter so you don't forget) and add your info like the license plate, name, phone number. All day for $7. I checked in through yelp and it said you get a free baklava. My server, Lilly, said you don't. I didn't care. I came here for the fantastic French toast which consists of four thick slices of sourdough dipped in vanilla egg batter and rolled in with fresh cornflakes. But I got the half portion so it's two and I added berries: strawberries and blueberries. But few other times, I had their Florentine Benedict. That comes with two poached eggs served with spinach, avocado, and tomato on an English muffin, topped with Hollandaise sauce and served with their special potatoes. And my daughter always gets their San Pasqual or the omelet which comes with bacon, cheddar and avocado slices. All delicious!! They have one of the best breakfast in Pasadena and their food is always consistent. They have great service and the ambience is comfortable like you're visiting a friend's house and they have paintings hung on the walls. This is truly one of my favorite breakfast spots in Pasadena and I always come back.

Yelp
The food was delicious and very fresh, seasoning on point, I love my eggplant & tomato soup with bread. Perfect for the weather. Service was wonderful, both ladies were super sweet and always made sure we had anything we needed and more. It is a very cozy place that looks like a cabin in a mountain.. very nice ambiance and very peaceful. Parking is very tight for only 5 cars. we paid $10.00 for parking on in another place. Recommended it

Yelp
Marston's is a great place for a classic brunch. It's not super trendy, but it is a great family-friendly and DOG FRIENDLY place to grab a nice meal! We always bring my dog when we go and the servers are super wonderful and bring out a little water bowl for him. The best meals to get are the french toast and eggs benedict!

Yelp
Loved this restaurant. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was about a 15 min wait for a table which wasn't too bad just wish LA wasn't 100 degrees outside that day but we waited under a shade :( anyway, when you walk in it feels like you're eating at home. It has a cozy vibe and the AC was on full blast so I ate my meal comfortably. The menu has a little bit of everything for everyone. I got the crispy chicken sandwich. It was very good. The waitress was very kind and checked on us frequently. Can't wait to come again.

Yelp
I had the traditional eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon. Not my first time at marathons but my first time with this dish. The eggs were perfect with a wonderful hollandaise sauce. Their signature potatoes were a wonderful side. The staff were very attentive to our needs and the coffee was amazing. We sat outside on a beautiful Saturday in pasadena. My guests had French toast and they commented how good it was.

Yelp
Food was decent. Breakfast food fit for a diner. I should have ordered French toast with frosty flakes, but opted to get a California Omelette. My son ordered 2 items. 1. Burger 2. Breakfast plate as he is an athlete that is back home visiting from College. The price for the food is standard for LA. There was no wow, or wooo.. it's just brunch in a local joint that looks like a house.

Yelp
This diner felt very homey and welcoming. The staff are friendly and there's plenty of tables for such a small place. There's plenty of outdoor tables as well. They give very generous portions. I wanted to order an entree with pancakes on the side but the entree was more than enough for me. I struggled to even eat one pancake and I thought I was a big eater. The food tastes delicious and everything is warm/hot right out the kitchen. None of my eggs or meat was burnt, it was all cooked just right. Their omelet's are quite wide and thick (packed!). You get toast on the side as well. The only major flaw of this place was the parking. The parking lot is very small so it's usually full. If you get in and can't find a spot, it's a pain to get out since there's not much room to maneuver. I ended up paying for parking at a cheap parking lot just down the street.

Yelp
Typical breakfast / diner food. I had the macadamia pancakes, added bananas. It was literally just pancakes, with crumbled macadamia nuts on top lol nothing special! It was still tasty, and the coffee was good. I highly recommend asking for your potato's to be extra crispy. They'll do it, and it's delicious! We came in at about 12:30 on a Monday, and there was no wait. We also found parking right out front. The waitstaff was attentive and nice overall. It's a small place, so I don't recommend large groups unless you call ahead!

Yelp
Searched for "best breakfast" in Pasadena and this popped up with good reviews, so I told my friend to meet me here. She arrived and was able to sign in outside for the waitlist (perfect) and we were seated about 10 minutes after arrival on Sunday early afternoon. We were seated and drink orders taken. We waited awhile before our server skipped us, and took our order after taking the orders of a table seated after us first. Then it took an unusually long time for a half order or blueberry pancakes and chicken sauce, potatoes and eggs. Food was pretty good, but Tiffany was our server and though she was verbally nice she was not attentive and it was not just us. There is an and all parking lot right before you reach the restaurant. It is an older spot but clean and it wasn't too busy but close space seating. I likely won't be back. I left my water bottle and I called and they held onto until the next day and very much appreciate it!
google avatar

Kavita P.

Yelp
It took us 1.25 hours after seated to get our food. Upon arrival our food was painfully mediocre but we were so hungry but had no choice. For the price and the amount of time we had to wait, I would suggest skipping here and going somewhere else. Orange juice was great, must get.

Yelp
Ordered the works French toast and the huevos rancheros. I was twice disappointed. I love corn flakes and I love French toast. So I lamely thought the two together would be great! I was wrong. The corn flake crumbs don't add anything to the French toast. If anything the odd texture detracts from what would otherwise be very tasty French toast. The berries were sweet and fresh. But they forgot the candied pecans. Not like they would've helped much anyway. The huevos rancheros should not even be called huevos rancheros. Granted, this is Marston's and not Mexican but still, there's a certain reasonable expectation. These "huevos rancheros" were an obscene mass of black beans piled on top of three non-toasted, non-warmed, straight-from-the-plastic-bag corn tortillas. Had trouble finding the two eggs buried within. I was able to find one for sure. But if you like six or so whopping dollops of sour cream on your food, this is the dish for you! And the sliced avocado on top was good. The best part of this two-course disappointment were the potatoes. So three stars overall just for having fresh produce I guess.

Yelp
Always good interesting choices. A locals favorite. The French Toast is excellent. A little expensive, but always good service and flavors.

Yelp
Tried this place out on a whim. It's a little hidden and the parking lot is small. The servers are friendly and attentive. It's a cozy place and our meals were good. I like the fact that this was once upon a time someone's home. Im sure there is lots of history. I like old places like this to explore, some of the restaurant's home history is written and framed on the wall which is cool. Even though it was a busy morning, it's a very calm and relaxing atmosphere which is nice and there is also some outside seating on the patio.

Yelp
First timer for breakfast this morning and will be a last timer. The service was lacking big time, not only for myself and boyfriend but for another poor patron as well who sat for about 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging him, he literally had to go up to the counter to ask for his order to be taken. The waitresses seem oblivious and really don't care. I had the blueberry pancakes and bacon. We all know bacon is oily but the chef didn't even drain the grease, it was horrible. The pancakes were so undercooked they were almost white. The veggie omlet was good. The best item we ate was the toast.

Yelp
Marston's has always had a solid reputation for excellent food. However, the last time I dined there was probably 20 years ago. Despite the delicious food it tends to offer, I have been reluctant to go back due to memories of long wait times and a tiny parking lot. Now, if I am gonna go enjoy a high-quality breakfast or lunch, the last thing I want to deal with is a long wait time and difficult parking. As I've gotten older and crustier, I definitely do not possess the patience for these things. Recently a friend suggested we meet at Marston's. I agreed because I know the food is good but mostly because this is a very good friend. And I will put my grievances about parking and waiting aside for her. For her only. So we meet and to my surprise, several tables are available! I avoided the parking lot entirely and parked at the public parking garage on Raymond just south of Walnut. It was a short walk to the restaurant. I sit down, decide on an order, then check in on Yelp to get the free piece of baklava they mention on their page. I let the waitress know, and she says, "Oh, we don't do that here". I said, "It's on your Yelp page" and she says, "Yea, but the owner doesn't do that anymore". I said, " Well, maybe the owner should update the page and remove the check in offer". The waitress just sort of shrugged and walked away. Honestly, I didn't care about getting the baklava. I rarely go for freebies of any kind. But it was kind of embarrassing and an uncomfortable transaction. Moving onto the food, the tuna melt and accompanying orzo salad were delicious. The atmosphere was homey, warm, and just what you what expect from eating in a cozy Pasadena craftsman house. The gentleman who refilled our drinks was pleasant and polite. I am usually quite generous with my Yelp reviews but I have to dock a star because of the Yelp check in thing. Also the parking situation does still suck. The food, however, is as excellent as I remember. If the owner or manager reads this, please do remove the free offer on your Yelp page! Not only are you getting our hopes up for homemade baklava, but you are setting customers up for an uncomfortable and weird transaction. Thanks!:)

Yelp
I enjoyed my food it was simple but tasty. It was nice place the host was a very nice young man, very accommodating. He took care of everyone fairly and as quickly as he could. The problem solely rested at the feet of our waitress Tiffany who walked right past us to a table who had just been seated and proceeded to take their order even after I told her we were there first and had been waiting longer than we needed to be. I hesitated with what I was feeling until I watched her do the exact same thing to another couple who fit our exact description, 2 Black people. I took notice of the other side of the room where the waitress was taking very good care of all of her customers she even popped over to make sure we were ok. Marstons is a nice place just don't get stuck with Tiffany and it was quite clear that her co-workers knew she was the problem. 3 stars because customer service is important and I can't imagine that the boss hasn't heard about her poor behavior.
google avatar

Cynthia M.

Yelp
Marstons is one of my go-to brunch spots in Pasadena. My two favorite dishes are the andouille sausage omelette and the cornflake encrusted French toasts with fresh berries. The service is always great and it's a reliable place for a great meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Very inviting, warm and friendly service. The servers are always checking up on you and ask if you need anything else. Food came out fast. Eggs Florentine was good. Hot cocoa is on the sweeter side, maybe powdered version. Popular place for breakfast that has been around forever and fills up around 10am on weekdays. Cute, house-like structure.

Chantel C.

Yelp
I've been coming here for a long time and since around 2020 , maybe even before the food hasn't been the same. The breakfast potatoes used to be amazing and now they are just so so. Same with the french toast I just ordered. The bread tasted stale and was so flat. It used to be the fluffiest french toast with a crunchy corn flake outer texture. There's just no love put in the food anymore. Quality has certainly declined. No need to come here anymore.

Demitri R.

Yelp
Had lunch with colleagues a few days ago and it was my first time dining here. The food was pretty good (although a bit on the bland side) and they have a cozy, covered outdoor seating area. Portions are a bit small for the price (meaning they only gave me about 7 french fries), but this is an ok place to have a casual lunch. Food was served pretty quickly. The server never even acknowledged my existence and I'm not sure what that was about. One of the gentleman at my table had to prompt her to take my order. I didn't factor that into my rating because I don't think the establishment as a whole should be dinged based on the actions of one person. But it was definitely worth mentioning.
google avatar

Yelp
Food: one of the best tuna melts I've had. The jicama salad side dish is so refreshing. Service is ok. Cup of coffee is too expensive. Parking is a challenge. They have a small parking lot.

Yelp
Had the hickory burger. Mediocre at best. Basically a frozen burger thrown on the grill. Nothing amazing, and definitely not at that price. First and last time there.

Yelp
Best coffee, super outdoor space. Staff is on point. I was surprised the place wasn't packed the way it used to be some years back.

Yelp
We finally made it!!! Absolutely worth the drive! This cute little house is cooking up some serious deliciousness! My son and I shared a Denver omelette w/potatoes, he also had the kid's chocolate chip pancakes, and we tried the works French toast . Make sure to bring your appetite we had plenty left over to to bring home. Not only did everything looking amazing, it was amazing! Plenty of filling in the omelette, potatoes nicely seasoned, French toast crispy with plenty of fresh berries, pancakes prefect portion for a 9year old. The morning was beautiful so we enjoyed sitting outside under the tent. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Can't wait to try the lunch!

Yelp
Amazing service and great food. Well worth the 11/2 hr drive to get there California salad is a must, So is the spicy salmon sandwich with sweet potato french fries you can taste the freshness. #FantasticFood.

Yelp
This brunch place has always been one of my favorite. But I like it more for its traditional stability than any particular novelty. It feels like you're eating at your house, and the serving staff has always been nice and attentive in my experience. I usually have the Works (which is a fancy French toast dish) perfect for those looking for a sweet brunch or the Powerhouse omelet (which is a cheese-free egg white dish made for athletes and what I think is a healthy diet of vegetables and lean protein). You can order the powerhouse with regular eggs as well. The coffee is solid, but they don't have fancy coffee drinks, if you need your cold brew oat milk matcha latte with gold dust then this is not the place for you. Parking is limited for the restaurant, prob total 10-15 spots. There's additional parking on Raymond just south of walnut in a public parking structure. It costs 1$ for the first 2 hrs so pretty cheap. Overall solid brunch place for the old fashioned feel.

Yelp
My wife and I have been dining at Marston's for over 25 years. I have pretty much tried everything on the menu and its consistently good. Service is always good and efficient. I'm glad that they have successfully emerged from the pandemic and continue to serve great breakfast and lunch items. It's comfort food at its best in a casual setting. You can't beat that.

Gene L.

Yelp
Breakfast today at Marston's. I ordered the 1/2 order of the Macadamia Nut pancakes for $11.45 and an order of bacon for $7.25 and coffee for $4.95. The coffee was good, but not worth $5. The pancakes (2) were luke warm and served with a liitle cup of cold syrup. I had to ask for more syrup two times. Basically two regular pancakes with macadamia nuts sprinkled on top. The bacon was served crisp (the way I like it ) but not worth $7.25. I asked for a 1/2 order of bacon, however they refused. Wait staff nice but rushed due to crowd waiting. The ambience very nice and cozy! For the money, I think I will skip breakfast here and continue to eat lunch when i am in town.

Yelp
Hidden Gem! I had one of the best quaint breakfast experiences I've ever had here. I got the pulled pork benedict and it's SERIOUSLY good! The potatoes are awesome too, they have great seasoning and flavor. Everything here was great. The staff was tentative, the order to table time was great, and I couldn't have had a better breakfast that day. They have outdoor front and side dining, as an alternative to indoors. Clean Bathroom, clean restaurant.

Yelp
a disaster! waited almost 30 minutes for breakfast, and a few tables were empty. waitress brought the toast about 10 minutes in, so it was stone cold when breakfast came. when the food came, potatoes were cold And underdone. I soon discovered what looked like a black hair under my hamburger patty...turned out to be a black thread about 2 inches. gave it to the waitress. I was now turned off the food by the "memory of the hair thread) altho there was more than 1/2 of my breakfast left. I ate no more. Bill came, no adjustment for my 16.95 breakfast, so I spoke with the owner who said she would make no adjustment because she was losing a lot of money already. Finally she said she would take off 1/2. She make no apology, and even said "well, I do not know what you found". I told her to ask the waitress, who had taken the black thread away. The new bill came and she had taken 3.00 off. I spoke with her again, and she said that is what she had offered the first time, that I was mistaken. She was pretty surly and nasty, so I told her we would not be coming back. She shrugged her shoulders.

Yelp
This place a a dingy dark filthy greasy piece of sh_t. Just look up at the ceiling and behold what you'd imagine a crack house to look like. They've packed the place with so many tables (to make profit) you can barely move. There's no ventilation. The prices are designed to steal your money and leave you bewildered asking why you ever stepped foot in this sh__ihole. I wanted a side of bacon and it was $7.25! I wanted two eggs and some eggs $20! Remember, you'll be sitting in a rat infested old house on fIng walnut st. It's not overlooking the Pacific Ocean it's overlooking nothing.. The owner is reaping in your cash probably living in a massive home overlooking the rose bowl while I'm paying $70 plus to have the worst greasiest piece of crap breakfast with my wife. My advice: Go to Russel's on fair oaks. You won't regret it.

Senbon Z.

Yelp
Went on July 4th. Called to ask if they'd still be open when we arrived by 1:30. The guy we spoke to on the phone said they're closing early "because of the holiday" but would still be able to seat us if we arrived in 30 minutes. We arrived at the agreed upon time and they refused to serve us. lol such garbage customer service and food is overpriced. DON'T eat here.

Yelp
I came here for a breakfast and saw they had good reviews. They have indoor and outdoor dining options. The weather was excellent so I ate outside and had a nice view of the trees and San Gabriel mountains. I tried their pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. Everything tasted very good and the service was friendly too. The prices were reasonable and I would highly recommend this place which is in an old house.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite breakfast restaurant in Pasadena. If you disagree, you haven't been. I ordered the French Toast (full portion) and a side of special potatoes to go. I would post pictures, but I ate the food too fast. The woman who answered the phone was extremely pleasant. The men who assisted me in paying for my order were friendly as well. The next time, I'll bring my sister and dine in. There is a plethora of outdoor seating. See you soon!

Yelp
Whenever I'm in LA, Marston's is a must for breakfast. My go to is the French toast - with the corn flake crust. Parking is limited and it can get busy. Def worth a visit.

I really wanted to love Marston's, but I didn't. When you're charging $18 for an omelette and $5 for coffee, I expect everything to be at least pretty good. Well, the atmosphere is "okay", comfortable but nothing more. The menu is good; quite a few breakfast items that caught my eye. The food preparation was just "okay". So far that's not adding up to "worth the money," but the kiss of death was the coffee. Quite a few reviewers seem to love the coffee so I don't know if I have different tastes (quite possible; I despise third wave coffee) or if something was wrong with it, but it was sour with a lemony finish. Part of the pleasure of having breakfast out with friends (being a meal that is never really worth the money, given that the ingredients don't cost much and the preparation is fast and easy) is relaxing with coffee refills and enjoyable conversation. Reader, I could not force myself to drink this swill. I really, really wanted to enjoy drinking it, but every time part of my brain said "take a sip of coffee now" another part of my brain said "No no no, for god's sake no, don't put any more of that revolting swill into your mouth!"

Yelp
Great lunch/brunch place for a quick and tasty bite in Pasadena; off the beaten path so locals know where it's at!

Yelp
Great food at a decent price, with a friendly atmosphere. The cheesy popovers are a must. Came here with the wife and kids and I did not disappoint. You know the place is good when there's a constant waiting line to get in,

Yelp
Of all the wonderful breakfast restaurants in Pasadena, Marston's on Walnut Street (on the edge of Old Pasadena across the street from Memorial Part) reigns supreme. "I GET" that a lot of people don't want to deal with the limited parking... "I GET" that it is not located in the heart of Old Pasadena, on Colorado or Lake. But what "I GET" at Marston's time after time is a wonderful breakfast served by a staff that have been there for as long as I can remember! While Russel's is good and Urth Cafe is artsy, Marston's delivers a combination of food and ambiance that will nostalgically remind you of better times and a slower, more peaceful time. When it comes to Marston's, the walk down memory lane is as good as the food!

Yelp
Brunch on a Monday. We ordered the works French toast, just eggs with chicken cilantro meat, and poorhouse omelet with eggs. Served fast and very friendly attentive staff. Bustling morning crowd. Tons of tables to choose from. The French toast is solid but not as flavorful and flaky as I remember from the many birthdays I have celebrated here. The California centric artwork adds to the warm ambiance. Glad this restaurant has survived and I look forward to finally returning for the lunch menu.

Yelp
Even though the breakfast was good, there were some issues. Their menu says fresh orange juice, which costs $7, but they pour orange juice out of a plastic 1 gallon container, and they confirmed that it was not squeezed there. One of the waitresses still insisted it was fresh. They charge approximately $5 for a simple side of toast. My omelette was $19. Kids' breakfast prices seem okay, but then you realize you're paying $8 for the pancakes and have to pay another $8 for the eggs, bacon, and potatoes. They don't tell you, but if you look at your receipt, you see they charge a 2% credit card processing fee. With prices like theirs, they don't need to charge the extra 2%. Many of the waitresses were not professional. They kept telling each other to go home (at 10 a.m.). The more aggressive ones wanted to make sure they got to stay and make money on the tips without compromising to anyone who would be willing to leave. Their parking lot was full and all street parking was metered parking, and the parking meters do not accept card payments. All this is a shame, because we have a connection with this place, it having been there for so long and us having gone there over decades. Our waitress was very nice and prompt. We were in a huge hurry and she made sure we were out of there on time. But still, I don't like it when restaurant owners try to take advantage of their customers. The 2% fee for a place like this--unbelievable.
