Martini Church

The Martinikerk is a stunning Gothic church dating back to the 13th century, right on the Grote Markt in Groningen. Inside there is one of the largest and most famous baroque organs in Northern Europ, first built in 1450 and later expanded by Arp Schnitger in the 17th century. I was lucky to attended an organ concert here on Open Monument Day. A must-visit when in Groningen

We went in April and it was quiet in the church with few people. There was an organist playing wonderful music. It was a beautiful peaceful experience.

Beautiful church and it was really cool that there was a sustainable slow fashion event inside when we visited.

It is an absolutely breathtakingly beautiful church, very spiritual and with architectural awe. There are large paintings by a young artist, Edgar Modderman. Three Stars, however, since opening hours are very restricted and not well communicated.

Right in the center of the city, it's a protestant church so it's less ornate than the Sint Jozefus cathedral. They have an enormous organ from the 1400s. It's the most beautiful thing in the building. They have art exhibitions here too. You can also pay to climb the tower, if you're brave.

Impressive church with fascinating artifacts and graves from hundreds of years go. Entrance is very cheap (€1 or €2 per person), all the more reason not to pass up an opportunity to take a look.

The Martini Tower is pretty much the staple for Groningen, besides all the schools in this town/city. What I experienced was the pleasantry of people watching, drinking beer in the outdoors, marathons or bike-a-thons that go through the city, seeing the concerts that happen in front of the square. It's a very pleasant place to be -- if you're visiting, you can't miss it, of you've pretty much missed Groningen. :)
