Martin's Klooster (Leuven, Flanders) 3 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Leuven is a land of superlatives. It boasts the oldest Catholic university in the world, which also happens to be the largest university in the country. Then there’s the longest bar in Europe, which is within staggering distance of the smallest bar in Belgium. Martin’s Klooster is a bit harder to quantify—but by our metrics it’s the top hotel in town." - Tablet Hotels

Disgusting arrogance from these dishonest people! Folks, beware and stay far away from this dump! It feels like they just take your money! Never mind that the hotel is a poor condition and freezing cold. Never mind that when we arrived, they told us that the room we had booked was not available because of heating problems and that we had paid for chocolates which we never received because they had “run out”. We also felt completely ripped off. After leaving this place, we discovered that our deposit had not been returned. We contacted the hotel and politely asked what was going on. We had already paid for breakfast when we booked the rooms. They admitted that they had made a mistake and had charged us twice for breakfast by accident and said they would refund the money. Yeah, right! A little later we received a message that they had taken another 100 euros from the card. Just like that! Unbelievable rudeness and incompetence!?! We contacted them again. Politely again. After a long wait on the phone, they informed us that once again they had made a mistake and that they would refund all the money. Yeah, right! A few hours later, the 100 euros that they had taken just like that out of sheer cheek were refunded, but the other money for the breakfasts – which we had already paid for and were then charged for again – was never returned. Three days of polite calls, every single day and these people just pretended to be pleasantly absent-minded. Hahaha. Disgusting behaviour from people with absolutely no integrity! And it’s not about the money– it’s about the principle! People, stay far away from this awful place!

We came to the Martin's Klooster to celebrate my wife's birthday. A lovely place that deserves top ratings. We had a bottle of wine but no cork screw. The front desk directed me to the bar. The smiling lady not only open our bottle but put it in a wine bucket with ice and added two glasses so we could take it to our room! Her thoughtfulness was a wonderful gift that added a glow to our evening. Thank you.

Great city centre location, lovely rooms. The car park in on a one way street (underground) before you get to the hotel, you turn in, use the intercom and they open the barrier. You can then park and take the lift to reception to check in. Bikes can also be stored. Lovely building. You will need to pay your city tax on departure.

Stayed in Martins Kloosters for 4 days whilst visiting the local university for a conference.everything from the initial email exchanges to the breakfast to go on the last day due to an early departure was handled excellently by the staff. The location of the hotel, the rooms, the bar at night, the lovely breakfast all made for a most enjoyable stay in Leuven. The city itself was a great surprise too! The hotel is a great example of how you can retain a historic feel and blend in modern accommodation. Rooms are well appointed and plenty space. The bathroom was lovely and a quality feel to all aspects of the accommodation In Summary not much to complain about to be honest. Maybe it could feature a spa but that would involve a large investment. It would be a good feature to come back to after walking around the beautiful city. Excellent hotel and highly recommended!

Google
Great location and nice rooms. However, the overall service fell short our rooms were not assigned correctly, housekeeping standards were below expectations, and the breakfast was very disappointing. Not what you would expect from a 4★ hotel.

We stayed at Martin’s Klooster Hotel for a family wedding and had a great experience. The hotel is well located—just minutes from the Leuven train station and close to everything in town. We upgraded to a larger room to accommodate three family members, and it was perfect. The room was comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and even had a lovely view. Having a Nespresso machine in the room was a nice touch. The staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We’d definitely recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Leuven! ---

0degrees Celsius out and heat does not work. They provided a small space heater with broken legs. The front desk manager was not helpful and became argumentative when I suggested an accommodation.

Yelp
About a 50 euro taxi ride from airport. Very nice quiet "university town" with good restaurants and charming ambiance.

Yelp
Tiny but unique hotel with both modern and historic touches. The hotel was converted from an old monetary and it kept some of the same building structure such as the bricks, the cathedral architecture elements and the courtyard style. The room is compact but clean, comfortable and well maintained. The hotel doesn't have a real restaurant but the breakfast buffet is amazing with superb quality pastries, fresh veggies, cheese, yogurt, cereal and eggs. Coffee is phenomenal as anywhere else in Europe. I've always had great experience staying here every time I visit Belgium. I happened to be here during the Brussels terrorists bombing this week (March 2016). My flight was cancelled and it was tough getting out as you can imagined. During the whole process, the staff here was very helpful and accommodating while I had to keep adjusting my stays, and needing help for advise on alternative transportations to leave Belgium. I'm very grateful and will not hesitate to stay here again.

Yelp
According to the ad from hotels.com, we were supposed to have laundry facilities, bathrobes and slippers and a bathtub. We were not told that these amenities came with an upscaled room. We ordered pizza at the Klooster bar and it was ice cold :( pretty disappointed. The GPS in our rental car did not take into consideration that there was road construction that had been going on for months. This construction made finding the hotel VERY difficult.
