We were put up here by the airline after a cancellation. It’s in an excellent location right in stone town and the room we got was huge with lovely fluffy towels, a balcony and nice touches like dressing gown and slippers and bathroom toiletries. Noise from the streets below but also from the hotel’s restaurant and entertainment areas. It’s a bit of a warren, but has a lift. Lovely rooftop pool and lounging area with great views, however the Restaurant was disappointing. Been in Zanzibar nearly three weeks and food has been excellent but this was the lowest quality by far. We had breakfast and dinner and neither has good quality food. Strange mix of Chinese and Indian and they all taste Indian. Menu is probably too big. Restaurant ‘manager’ wasn’t very pleasant, quite dismissive of us, and reception staff also not particularly welcoming, waitresses were very nice at breakfast. Overall there are much nicer hotels in stone town, for the same price. The food is the main thing letting this hotel down, and some staffs attitude.

Very well located in the center of the old town. You can directly walk to the small commercial street. The interior is olé fashioned but it is a some charme. More than’ok for 1 night. ||The restaurant is good and not expensive. You can have indian or African food. Very nice breakfast.||I give a score of 2 because of the staff. At the reception or at the restaurant there are not friendly. They are expecting a tip for everthing they do. ||The hotel is not bad but you can find much beter.

I definitely recommended this one. Everything was good . Staff was very helpful, housekeeping do very good job my room always was spotless super clean. Beach literally 10 minutes walk from the hotel and so many shops all around nearby. Rooftop restaurant is great with reasonable price ,good breakfast as well with so many different options every morning . Only one little thing I didn’t like was the coffee at breakfast. I really don’t understand why only instant coffee powder available . I expect espresso machine with coffee beans ,because lot of coffee farms all around Tanzania.

After trying many of the hotel restaurants in Stone Town, my wife and I found Maru Maru's rooftop terrace to be the best in terms of quality and value, so we kept coming back. The view of the historic city is beautiful, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the food is delicious. Highlights included the biryani, the Zanzibar style chicken curry with ugali, and the chicken burger.

The hotel was perfect, close to the ferry terminal and had an amazing view from the rooftop. The rooms were also spotless and the staff were the friendliest and most helpful, especially the ones at the reception. They also allowed us to stay at the rooftop after hours just to relax and they were always so polite and nice. Breakfast was also 5*. I recommend 100% and would for sure stay here when I find my way back to Stone Town.

I had a wonderful stay at Maru Maru. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Stone Town, very clean, comfortable, and offers excellent value for money. The staff are incredibly kind and attentive. A huge thank you to Abdul, Mussa, Khalfan, Swahiba, Franck, Braison, Kudra, Anold, and Hitesh for their outstanding hospitality. I highly recommend it and will definitely return!
