Marufukuro (Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Kyoto’s Marufukuro Hotel occupies a 1930s building that was once home to Nintendo’s corporate headquarters. (The Nintendo Playing Card Co. sign still stands on an exterior wall.) Its interior renovation and its modern annex are the work of the modernist architect Tadao Ando. All 18 rooms and suites vary in size and style, but are uniformly attractive and well-equipped. The library is full of materials related to Nintendo’s history, while the restaurant, Carta, serves 'New Western' cuisine with Japanese ingredients and seasonings under the direction of chef and author Ai Hosokawa." - Tablet Hotels

This was truly an incredible stay and we felt so lucky to be able to experience the original Nintendo headquarters. Our room with original features was great as were the lounges, staff and breakfast. We also had a tour on our first morning I didn’t catch the staff members name apologies but he was very gracious taking the time to show us around and giving us the history of the building and interiors. We would definitely stay again next time we are in Kyoto. Thank you Nicola & Jason

I had an incredible stay at Hotel Marufukuro in Kyoto. This boutique luxury hotel is situated in the historic former headquarters of Nintendo, which adds a unique and captivating atmosphere. The blend of Nintendo's rich history with a modern, upscale ambiance creates an unforgettable experience, especially for fans of the brand. The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, making me feel very welcome. The hotel's location is excellent, and the rooms are beautifully appointed and comfortable. I highly recommend Hotel Marufukuro for anyone looking for a special and memorable stay in Kyoto!

We had a wonderful stay at the Marufukuro. Most notable are the young people who work at the reception desk and throughout the hotel. They were amazing! They do it all, with kindness and humility. In addition, our room was large and comfortable. (We were warned ahead of time there was no lift.) And the breakfast, the bar, and the library were all impressive. We enjoyed them all. Would stay there again without hesitation!

Marufukoro was easily our favorite accommodation we had during our recent trip to Japan. Everything from the staff, the room, amenities, and dining blew away our expectations. With the building being the original Nintendo Headquarters, we were amazed at how thoughtfully preserved and designed the spaces were. Too often are old buildings modernized with significant loss in character, but not Marufukoro. Every inch felt thoughtfully curated to show the history of the building while providing modern luxuries. We look forward to booking an even longer stay during our next trip to Japan, as two nights were not nearly enough. Thank you, Marufukoro Team, for such an incredible stay!

We loved our stay at this hotel. The hotel is very special and has a wonderful feel to it. The craftsmanship is beautiful. We stayed in the 3rd floor balcony room and it was spacious and comfortable. The staff could not have been more professional, helpful, and accommodating. Many spoke excellent English. We had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant one night, and enjoyed the morning breakfast. We liked the location of the hotel, on a quiet alley near the river. It was not far from Gion and the Kawaramachi area, but far enough to be away from the hustle and bustle. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Marufukuru is the absolute best hotel I’ve ever stayed at. I booked this hotel because of the history with Nintendo. I thought it would be an incredible experience and I was absolutely right. If you love Nintendo and their history, this hotel respects this. They offer a tour of the hotel and shows images from when they purchased the building and the things they did to ensure the history of Nintendo wasn’t erased. They have a small museum that shows some of the highlights of Nintendo’s history as well. We stayed in the Japanese Suite and “gorgeous” isn’t enough to describe this room. It has a mini bar that is refilled daily and you get access to the full size self service bar upstairs as well. The bed is massive and the outside shower/bath is incredible. We stayed here for our honeymoon and they were so kind and even gave us a small gift. I can’t recommend this hotel enough. It absolutely incredible.

Amazingly serene place with lots of history. Hotel was set up with conservation in mind so a great place for Nintendo fans. Right next to the river and within easy walking distance of Kyoto station. Top notch service.

Lovely spacious rooms and impeccable service in this hotel that was formerly the Nintendo HQ and founder's home. The lounge access was amazing after full days of sightseeing when you just want a good snack and glass of wine to unwind - the Ochazuke supper was *chef's kiss*
