Google
One of top places I miss being able to walk to for lunch when I worked in downtown. The noodles are bouncy and delicious and definitely fill you up. They’re quick, courteous, and very affordable for the quality of food. So thankful they’re open weekends even in the downtown location. Strongly recommend!!

Google
This place has other branches that have good food as far as I’ve heard. This place as it’s located in downtown and especially with many homeless people around, has little untidiness and stinks sometimes. The food also isn’t that great. Their ramen and food overall in other branches tastes better. The chicken wasn’t completely cooked, it was still raw inside, the udon also was not completely cooked.

Google
Highly recommended!!! Hands down, the best udon in Oahu. Great prices, fresh food, everything we’ve tried has been delicious 🤤 can’t wait to go back again! 10/10

Google
I love Marugame Udon! The location was great, there was no line, and the food was made instantly. I got the BK sauce ontama with an extra egg and it was only $10! So filling, yummy, and decently priced. As a broke college student struggling with the prices of O’ahu, this restaurant is a blessing. Will be back 100%.

Google
Soup was lukewarm, the tempura was cold. Tasted delicious but it would be better hot.

Google
Delicious! I had the sweet beef with sauce and crab tempura. The noodles were soft but firm enough to not be mushy. The beef and sauce were loaded with flavor! The tempura was a bit bland but fairly priced. I'll skip that next time. Overall a GREAT meal for less than $20!

Google
Was highly recommended and lineup went around the block in Waikiki. Got the Chicken Garden Udon for takeout - wasn't bad but I think it lost something when it got cold from walking it back to the hotel. Want to go back and try it hot and fresh.

The food here is great. We come here each time when visit Hawaii. They validate parking at the next door Pantheon garage. The first hour is free.

Yelp
I normally uber eats your guys udon, and I haven't had one order that didn't meet my expectation. I look forward to actually going to the restaurant and eating there. Thank you for always providing excellent food.

Yelp
The beef udon was spectacular. Go on off hours so you don't have to wait in the longest line ever. We got lucky we were there around 4:30 and it was an in between time, so no line - people were leaving and by the time we finished a new line was forming. Loved this beef udon and we also ordered some tempura sides. The sweet potato was great along with the crab Not the cleanest in terms of tables and floors, but food is great

Yelp
If you're in Honolulu, Marugame Udon is an absolute must. I truly enjoyed the Chicken Katsu Curry. The curry was packed with rich flavors and spices, everything that you would expect in a good curry. This went really well with the crispy katsu chicken and rice. The curry sauce just comforting and nostalgic with every bite. I didn't want the meal to end. While there's usually a long line, the food is definitely worth the wait. You can also skip the wait by ordering online for pick-up, and your food will still be hot and delicious. I did pick up twice, and service was fast and convenient. I did not eat inside but, they seemed to have ample seating. Overall, this is a great spot to grab amazing food that will keep you coming back for more. I highly recommended stopping by at least once if you're in the area, it is a must try!

Yelp
Still good as always with the usual long line. We were staying a 4 minute short walk away so we took advantage of the on-line option and take-out window. They made two mistakes on our order to our benefit. They forgot our Tempura Crab but they gave us three pieces of chicken Katsu instead of one piece of chicken katsu. We ordered two pieces of tempura zucchini, one piece of chicken katsu, one piece of tempura crab, two pieces of tempura shrimp, nicely fried, tasteful 5 piece order of gyoza and a bowl of tonkatsu udon. All of the items were warm and fresh except for the zucchini which was cold and tasted like it sat for a little bit. Although they didn't box the noodles separate the udon tasted good and was hot since it was a quick walk back to the Airbnb. If you can, skip the long line and do the on-line take-out window. Marakame serves fresh food, tempura is not oily and the udon is flavorful. Even with the long line, it moves relatively quickly so get in line and have a good meal.

Yelp
Over here is always my go to when I want a simple/quick meal that's cheap and tasty. I tried their yuzu shuwah to go with the udon salad and it was delicious!

Yelp
I always loved coming to Marugame Udon. We decided to go to their branch in Chinatown since there's way less people than the ones in Waikiki. It's a lot faster and there's always parking around! You can choose from a variety of broths, but their beef broth is always my go to. It was so delicious and the broth always makes you feel good, especially in a cold rainy day! We also tried their pork broth and it was so creamy! You can also choose from a variety of tempura and I love their crab tempura. The breading are so crispy and delicious that I always wanted a bit extra in my soup! The portions here seem to be a bit bigger, although it does seem a bit pricier than the ones in Waikiki, but the short wait and bigger portion is definitely worth it!

Yelp
I got the Garlic chicken salad and some tempura as always Marugame Udon was good and tasty what I like about the Garlic Chicken Salad is is very tasty and a good mix of chicken and salad with Udon. what I like about this location is that it isn't crowded like the Waikīkī one and service is fast.
google avatar

Anthony G.

Yelp
Udon hits the spot on rainy days. I went to Marugane Udon multiple times and my favorite is their new item, Tonkotsu Udon. The thick noodles and lovely broth. So, delicious and for a regular size it's only $13. My favorite sides are tamago tempura, Imitation Crab, and fried Chicken tempura. Dipping that tempura side in the broth. It's so good! If you're hungry, Marugame Udon bowls will fill you up. Also, you can get a cup of water for free and refills after ordering.
google avatar

Emma B.

Yelp
The line is freaking worth it, absolutely delicious! They move quick, so you won't be waiting for long, but the food is so good, you won't regret it. Couldn't recommend the tonkotsu udon more! Super casual place.
google avatar

Dana A.

Yelp
The line is worth every minute!!! We tried the pork Ramen with the spice bowl, teriyaki katsu bowl, shrimp tempura, katsu chicken, and tempura sweet potato. Everyone LOVED every bite! AND they are priced reasonably! Can't wait to go back before we say Aloha!

Yelp
When I feel like getting Udon and Tempura, this is my usual spot. Fast, fresh handmade noodles, no frills. I always parked at Safeway-Nuuanu and just do my regular walk as it's not that far. Food is always hot, the staff are always friendly and the Aunties are very accomodating. This location in downtown cannot be beat cause you don't have to fight for parking + tourist with their other location in Waikiki. They do not have a restroom inside but just let the Aunties know and they will guide you all the way to the back. Mahalo as always Eating at home today

Yelp
First time here, and it was amazing. All the cooks were nice and service at the register was quick and seem less. They asked if you parked in the garage for 1 hour validated parking, just need to give them your license plate number. We went when they first opened up so everything was available to try. Only down side it gets Smokey inside from all the frying. Food was amazing, coming back to try their other dishes.

Yelp
While I typically visit the Kuhio Ave Marugame Udon in Honolulu, the Fort Street Mall location offers the same delicious udon and delectable side dishes with the added bonus of ZERO wait time! If you're in a rush but still craving a hearty bowl of ramen, I highly recommend checking out the Fort Street Mall location. The service is just as fantastic, the food is as tasty as ever, and best of all, you won't have to endure the dreaded long wait like at the Kuhio Ave location. Don't miss out on this convenient and delicious dining option. Swing by the Fort Street Mall location for a quick and satisfying meal that won't disappoint. Enjoy the awesomeness that is Margume!

Yelp
Loved Marugame! Are here twice in the same week because it was so good. Udon was the absolute perfect texture and the broth was very flavorful without being overwhelmingly filling. Beef was very tender and all of the tempura was very tempting. The shrimp and sweet potato were my favorite.
google avatar

Maggie K.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! Everything was good and I don't think you can go wrong here. Udon had a beautiful texture and a perfect bite to the noodles. Broth was rich with a subtle sweetness. Remora was lively. Make sure to get some of the warmed dipping sauce for it. One of the better bang for the buck meals in Waikiki. If the line is too long, order from the app and pick up at the window.

Yelp
I had a fantastic experience at Marugame Udon! The noodles were prepared super quickly and had the perfect bounciness and chew--so satisfying! My favorite is the tonkotsu udon, which has a rich pork flavor and creamy broth that's incredibly comforting. There's a great variety of tempura options, all perfectly crispy and not too greasy, which complemented the udon beautifully. Service was friendly and efficient, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommend for a delicious, quick, and authentic udon fix!

Yelp
Highly recommend this place if you have a craving for udon and/or tempura!! I've been here multiple times now and have taken my friends and family here. The udon noodles are made fresh and depending when you get there, it may take a few minutes for the noodles to get ready. There are a variety of broths and options to choose from. In addition to udon, there are a variety of tempura options as well. The heating lamps actually help keep the tempura warm compared to other places I've been where the tempura ended up being cold even under the lamps. It is a self service restaurant like a cafeteria where you go up to order the udon and then you can pick out which tempura you want. This location is in Chinatown so parking wise you can either park on the streets or there is free 1 hour parking.

Yelp
I knew when we landed, we were going to hit Marugame almost immediately. My husband and I decided on this location since we were going on a weekend and wanted to escape the wait if we could -- there was literally 0 line when we pulled up so yay! Being a leaf eater, I went with the tan tan which is the vegan option whereas my husband got the curry. We both grabbed some tempura including the potato korokke, zucchini, and sweet potato for me and gyoza, egg, and shrimp for him. I appreciate the heck out of this spot for having a vegan option but do wish it was a tad bit more flavorful. The noodles themselves were great but I don't think the broth was spicy or even had that richness that you expect from a tan tan. All in all, I did like it because bless that the broth wasn't just salt water like I've had in other places. The tempura was good with the sweet potato being my favorite but husband I both hated the potato korokke -- which is bizarre because we both love potato and potato korokke. I'm not sure what sort of breading they opted for in frying this but it literally tasted like something you'd coat and fry a donut or dessert in. There's a good amount of seating at this spot and you essentially self serve/bus after you're done. Water is available if you don't want to get a drink and there is hot tempura sauce for dipping your goods. Prices are fair for what you get and honestly I think my husband would rate this spot a 5/5 since he could enjoy more of the menu and felt like his food had a better flavor.

Yelp
We have this in the Bay Area, but according to my daughter, it is better in Oahu... Because she likes the tempura egg that she never saw in the CA locations. This is a newer location; I did not know they were here and it was a good find. And they have been here since 2013!! See Chinatown review, it has been a long time since I have been to this part of town. Quality/Quantity - Fresh udon, made in front of you daily! Cafeteria style dining. Start at one end and keep adding to your tray until you are happy. Then pay at the other end of the counter. Also available - Rice bowls, tempura, salad, drinks, seasonal items, etc. Atmosphere - Decent size location. Table, bench, counter seating. I really like the exterior order and pick up window. Almost an express service. Open 7 days a week from 10am to 4pm or 7pm, see picture. Use their app and get $5 off your first order, see picture. Service - 1 hour free parking with $5 minimum spend (not a problem) and a copy of your receipt. See picture. Price - Very reasonably priced, I would even consider inexpensive. Owner Comment - Congrats on all your success since 2000 and your 1000+ locations, and now being in 3 states; HI, CA & TX. Are you a franchise? Or all company owned?

Yelp
I had a craving for udon and went straight to the downtown location. Parking was difficult. I followed the info from other reviews but couldn't locate it. I posted a photo of their parking instructive that may help. I finally found street parking and made my way over. There was a short wait at the door because they were boiling more noods. The fresh veggies add-on was a cold mix of carrot, cabbage, and green bean. The curry, udon, and toppings were super satisfying. I'm a repeat customer and enjoy both locations. I'll be back when my next udon craving strikes.

Yelp
The chicken katsu curry was very good but a lil too much rice. The service was quick and friendly. A real busy environment but lots of space to eat.

Yelp
Work: Work in Downtown Me: Thank you. *I'm gonna have a great lunch today!* I don't work in Downtown often, but when I do my coworkers already know where I'm eating. I don't care whether it's hot, cold, or rainy, I'm getting my udon and tempura fix. Now, I do have to warn you that you can get a pretty quick lunch here if you're crunched for time, but because this place is so popular you either want to get in line a little before 12 or after 12:30 to beat the line. Since this is the heart of downtown, you might have to fight the lunch rush of all the tradesmen, corporate Hawaii, and maybe even some tourists! If you've eaten at Marukame in Stix or Waikiki, it's the same set-up. If you've never eaten here before, no worries because the instructions are posted right above you, and if you're still confused the guys behind the counter can help. Don't forget to get all the toppings and spicy side too! I usually go for a regular kake udon and bunch of tempura on the side so that I can take it home. I've been caught in the rush once, and I made sure to never do it again. But even in the rush, it's not hard to find a spot for just yourself or a group of 2 - 3. The place is also really clean and the employees are really quick to help and reset a table. Just please don't forget to PUT YOUR DISHES BACK. In a lunch rush, this makes is harder for people to get a table because someone needs to clean the table. Other than that, this is of course my favorite, best, and highly recommended lunch spot.
google avatar

Margo V.

Yelp
This place is consistently always perfectly what it's supposed to be! Great place for a quick lunch as service is speedy and they can handle groups well but I like coming by myself and just focusing on my delicious soup. Warning, if you're not a fan of udon, there's not too much else to eat here but all of their tempura items are made fresh and very tasty also. Another nice thing is the flexibility on what you add to your soup or how many sides you want so you can adjust your order to fit any appetite. Prices are reasonable enough to come every day!!
google avatar

Kaile P.

Yelp
My coworker and I stopped by for an early lunch on Monday. We were greeted immediately, which is always nice! There was plenty of seating because we came before the lunch rush. The tables are always clean. They also offer complimentary water at the condiment station. The vibe is relaxed, though the service is super fast. Most of the customers are business people or locals around the area. So you won't see too many tourists at the location. We ordered two (large) Beef Nikutama and a 5pc gyoza. Our total was $32.32. Beef Nikutama - Udon noodles with japanese curry sauce topped with Beef and scallions. Toppings are optional. The beef was a bit overcooked and hard to chew through, but the flavor was great. Gyoza - The meat was way too greasy. I wouldn't order again. This was a major miss. With all things considered, it's still a great option for a quick bite and friendly service.
google avatar

Wei C.

Yelp
Simple and delicious, a must visit when in Honolulu! There usually is a long line to this place but the line moves fairly quickly! You walk up to the counter to order your udon then you go down the line to pick up any additional add ons to go with your udon then you pay for your meal and pick your seat to enjoy your meal! The broth here so so flavorful, the noodles are cooked to perfection and the add ons are a plus!
google avatar

Desiree M.

Yelp
It's good - ambiance is great. Music is nice. Noodles are amazing. Udon - choose your flavor and you can't go wrong.
google avatar

Jonathan K.

Yelp
Marugame Udon of international fame is a cafeteria style idol spot where they make fresh noodles and you go down the line to pick your size, broth, toppings, side tempura or onigiri before sitting down Usually busier during the lunch rush of the weekday, at night it's relatively calm so that might be a better time to relax and enjoy I always get the large curry udon, with the tempura flakes and green onions, the rich beef, a dash of togirashi spice, and if I'm feeling it then a tempura potato croquette, shrimp tempura, or a salmon onigiri (but those can get expensive so it depends if they look fresh or not) It's consistent, warm and comforting, and relatively affordable given how everything has risen after the pandemic and inflation

Yelp
A must for every visit I make to Hawaii. The downtown location has wayyyy less people than the Waikiki one. Service is straightforward and food is always fantastic
google avatar

Mia H.

Yelp
I wanted to try Marugame when I came to Hawai'i, however the one in Waikiki is always PACKED, with a minimum of an hour wait. So, when I found another spot just 20 minutes away, I had to go. Located near Chinatown, this spot is easy to access and find parking for. Walking in, there was no wait and the place had lots of seating. The way Marugame works is that you choose the type of udon, size (love this!), and after they give you your bowl, you can choose from a selection of tempura to enjoy with your meal before paying. I got the kitsune udon, with the sweet potato, imitation crab, and shrimp tempura. The udon itself was delicious. Soft, chewy noodles and a deep broth. The tempura sizes were huge and super crispy. Overall, a great spot to go to for a casual meal. AND, this location is super great in that there is little to no wait!

Yelp
Downtown on Sunday is awesome, no crowds, no line and fast service. Happen to be downtown for an appt and forgot this place was on fort street mall, wandered to check out what was still on fort street mall (haven't been down there in years). Walked in little after they opened at 11am and did a take out order of Tan Tan and Nikutama and side order of crab, tamago, zucchini, chicken tempura. Take out is interesting you have to self serve your take out on the side counter. Service was "fast" so I was very happy. Tan Tan and Nikutama was as I remembered when we first ate at the Waikiki location a few years ago, noodles is what makes this udon place it chewy like in Japan. The tempura was not dripping on oils and very tasty. The crab and tamago was interesting items we've never had before and was delish, the tempura sauce could use more flavor, kinda watered down from my taste buds. Next time you are in downtown on a sunday, check this place out, its not crowded or if you need a facial check our Moon Lilly across the street from Marugame Udon.i I

Yelp
So glad they're open on weekends too. First time visiting their Downtown location... lots of free in-building parking and seating (indoor and outdoor). Got in line with our trays... cafeteria style ordering. Ordered our soba and then followed by the line-up of tempura and other sides. Service was quick and friendly - except couldn't purchase their liquor that was available (cashier said she didn't have a liquor license? confusing explanation). Didn't want to hold up the line so just let it go & paid for our trays of food. We all enjoyed our bowls, and refreshing drinks - Matcha and Calamansi. Will definitely come back... love that they're in Downtown.

Jaymee A.

Yelp
I had a long day today, a migraine, nausea... fatigue. But the BK regular, with rich and comforting broth (of course with all the toppings) was a delight. Along side the tender tamagoyaki tempura, moist and savory yet sweet crab tempura, juicy shrimp tempura, and crispy and crunchy gyoza to top it off... the meal was perfect. But was made even more perfect with a side of Yuzu Sake. Highly recommend after a long day with patients.
google avatar

Belinda A.

Yelp
Love this location no lines faster service and closer to home. I don't need to worry about waiting in a long line like the Waikiki vacation. Also usually they have their special food items only valid for this location.
google avatar

Kristen S.

Yelp
Marugame udon in Waikiki is infamously known for long lines, drawing a huge tourist following. But good lord, the fort street mall location is an entirely different vibe with food that 100% lives up to the hype. This spot has become a staple to meet up with my brother, who works downtown on Fridays, along with my grandpa. We go around 11:30am and there's never a line, tons of seating, and walker accessible! Noodles and soup combos are made to order and range in simplicity and price--as low as $5 up to $15. Tempura is always fresh and they serve refreshing matcha and tea drinks that rotate. Parking is validated at pioneer plaza, which totally combats my distaste for dining in the downtown area.
google avatar

Vinson H.

Yelp
I like this place. Why?! Because you can start a regular bowl at $7 and work your way up to I believe $12. And of course you add on your meats and veggies, you can on average cost $20-22 dollars. I love their broth. And you also do curry broth too. Also a hot day in Hawaii, you need a nice cold beer. Only note, blast up the AC or get an AC. Because it's warm to hot as balls in there. Service is also fine. It's really build it and find your own seat. There's not really a table service sort of vibe.
google avatar

Isabella R.

Yelp
We stopped by Marugame Udon during our last stay in Honolulu and I was pleasantly surprised with no wait as opposed to the one located in Waikiki that usually has a line wrapped around the building. Service was nice and quick. Restaurant was well stocked. Soup was plenty hot when we took it home to enjoy.
google avatar

Cynthia S.

Yelp
Another day, another bowl of udon. I love how each bowl is made fresh to order and if you get a chance to watch them make udon in the window, I highly recommend doing so! We had their BK udon and dashi this visit and they were all super tasty! Highly recommend trying the BK udon cold on a hot day

Yelp
Visiting Hawaii and was craving some udon, so I yelped around and found this place. It is located in Chinatown (which I had no idea even existed in Honolulu) and you will have to find street parking. Was easy to find spots since I got here early, around noon. The serving style is grabbing a tray, adding appetizers that you can grab with tongs, then placing your order and paying once you get to the register. I ordered one of the most popular udon dishes: Nikutama Udon and my husband got the Nikutama Curry Udon. I knew the beef was supposed to be a little sweet, but it was a bit too sweet for me. I don't think I'd be the type to put sweet bulgogi in any noodle brothy dish, but that is just my personal taste. My husband liked his, but he said it wasn't very memorable. Overall, both tasted okay.
google avatar

Vicky L.

Yelp
Super popular and busy. Efficient style, like a cafeteria line. I ordered the basic kake udon (I love broth/soup), but I forgot to disclose I wanted a regular. They didn't ask... but I did remember to ask for no green onions. They gave me a large with green onions, then remade it without. A large was too much for me :( I also got 3 shrimp tempura on the side. For a bowl of plain udon and 4 shrimp tempura, it was a little more expensive than I would like. Especially since the udon was about $6 for the large but the total cost was almost $20. Taste was good, texture of the noodles were great. Their tempura sauce is very light. I also wish we could add more tempura flakes but they just gave a small scoop. The register also has a sign basically making us feel bad if we don't tip, and the girl at the register also just stared directly at the machine to see how much tip you put. Since the line is very much a "hustle" vibe, I couldn't see if there was even an option for no tip before panicking lol. I think the lowest option was 15%. Which is crazy since it's cafeteria style. The massive tip for low effort is also what contributed to the overspending on the basic udon. Order take out, it's not worth dining in, serving yourself basically, and having to tip way more than necessary.

Yelp
You know a place is good when the line to get in the restaurant is out the door. The food was delicious, got the sweet beef (regular), tempura octopus and zucchini. So much food for a great price.

Yelp
I always love this location. Not only the food is pretty good and budget-friendly, there is no long wait every time I come here. Goodness that's a plus especially if you are starving. Every time I come here I alway's get the tempura chicken which is really good and juicy from the inside. The crunch is unbelievable and so far they're tasty and the breading is seasoned well. Their croquette is also yummy which I occasionally add to my pile of fried food. Love their iced calamansi-ade as well help to wash down all the crumbs. The citrusy, sweet drink is so refreshing & sweet. I will definitely come back here over and over again, I mean I think a pilgrimage should be scheduled at least once a month. LOL. Why not? Love the space, not crowded at all, and the ambiance is welcoming and that's a plus for me. One udon restaurant at a time...

Yelp
Returning to Marugame Udon on our downtown office lunch break was a great decision, and here's why this spot continues to be a favorite among my friends and me. First off, we were pleasantly surprised to discover their new loyalty program app, which offers $5 off your first purchase. Who doesn't love a good deal on delicious food - especially when the prices are already very reasonable? Marugame Udon's claim to fame is its commitment to the art of handcrafted udon bowls and tempura, all prepared in a theater kitchen that allows guests to witness the culinary magic as it unfolds. The authenticity of their Japanese noodle-making tradition, originating centuries ago in the Kagawa Prefecture, is evident in every bite. This time around, I opted for the B.K. - Sanuki-style Udon served in a Umami-rich (flavor-packed) sauce. Choosing the cold version, I was treated to udon noodles with the perfect stretch and bite, complemented by a broth that was savory and delicious. The attention to detail in making the noodles to order truly ensures a taste that's unmatched. But the noodle adventure doesn't end there - after selecting your udon, you're presented with a tempting array of tempura choices. My personal weakness is the mushroom, but with options ranging from chicken and shrimp to sweet potato and tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelette), it's easy to get carried away. I've admittedly lost my head before, ending up with an unintentional pile of tempura, but hey, no regrets when it's this good! The restaurant provides both indoor and outdoor seating options, and tables turn over quickly and are cleaned regularly. Noise level is not too loud inside, making is easy to carry on conversations. The workers here are efficient and friendly. Marugame Udon remains a top-notch destination for authentic Japanese udon and tempura, and the addition of the loyalty program app makes it even more enticing. Whether you're a udon enthusiast or a tempura lover, this downtown location is sure to leave you craving more. Fast, friendly service and an unbeatable flavor experience - what more could you ask for? We'll definitely be back for another noodle fix soon!

Long line goes quickly. Food is fresh and made to order. Udon bowls are outstanding and tempura is also!

Yelp
Good place to go for lunch since it's sit down and near my workplace in downtown. Good choices of bowl items, decent priced but can get crowded if you don't go early. One of the few places still open, friendly, great service, and tho I'm not always hungry for Japanese food I like their food here.

Yelp
The udon noodle dishes here are very tasty and priced affordably. I thought Marugame Udon would be a tasty place to eat after I had seen the long line extending outside of its Waikiki location. This location seems to be just as delicious.

Yelp
No one ever knows that there's a Marukame in Chinatown! Honestly it's a bit perplexing why/how they manage to stay open in this spot for this long. I go once in a blue moon when I feel like putting up with the traffic and parking in Chinatown, but craving some good tempura udon. The quality is still there, tastes just as good as the Waikiki location, and honestly the restaurant is quite clean! And I had expected a ton of homeless people in there or something but there weren't! I even asked the worker in there if it ever gets busy or if the restaurant ever fills up, and he said it never does lol. In any case, that's great news for me since I live within walking distance now :P The udon noodles are sooooo chewy and thick, literally heaven. The broth is super good, and the tempura is fire. The only downside is that since there's such little business here, they generally have a much more limited tempura selection unlike the Waikiki spot. Probably because turnover is much slower so they don't feel the need to make so much tempura all the time. I will say though that every time I've come, the tempura that I personally want is always available which is good: shrimp, chicken, and vegetable potato croquette. All for $13 for a giant bowl of udon and 3 pieces tempura. Pro tip: NEVER order a large size udon at marukame. You will explode. Just get the regular size udon which is already huge and filling. That way you can finish all the tempura u picked!

Yelp
If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine and in the mood to try some pretty authentic Udon, Marugame Udon located in the heart of Chinatown is the spot you gotta try. It's not as busy as the Marugame Udon location in Waikiki. This restaurant is legit and it's never too busy to not be able to get a table. The seating is easy, open seating, and lots of tables to choose from. They have a menu board upon entering with all the options, and you place your order and grab a tray. The open concept kitchen is a great experience, you literally see everything being cooked and prepared while you order and move along the line and wait for your food. I like to order the Nikatuma Udon, which is $10.25 for the regular or the Beef Udon, which is $9.75 for the regular. Both are best sellers and absolutely delicious. The noddles are freshly made and are cooked to perfection and the broth is smooth and tasty. Aside from the amazing Udon, they also have amazing tempura, everything from vegetables, shrimp, to sweet potatoes and eggplant, and everything fried perfectly. I love this place, and will definitely keep coming back.
