I had already been in the downtown and Burnaby area for 3 days on business and well fed. I dropped in here on my last night by myself and sooooo happy I did! It was the the most authentic and flavour meal I had during my 4 day visit!! The chicken broth is silky and buttery, the curry dishes pack a flavour punch and you get a good portion serving for the price. I even ordered a couple extra dishes to-go back to the hotel for midnight snacks. Lol. On top of that, all of the staff was super welcoming, friendly and attentive. I will be back here hands down on my next trip back if in the area. 😋😋😋

Great place that specializes in simple, straightforward yet delicious ramen bowls. I had the spicy chashu tomagu pork thingamajig and it was delicious. The creamy, rich broth is an absolute winner and the noodles were served al dente and perfectly complimented the rest of the dish. My only caveat is that for the price, the bowl is a touch light and doesn't leave you feeling stuffed like you would most pho or ramen places. However, its quality makes one forget about that pretty quickly.

My family and I were so satisfied with the food here. The broth of the ramen was so delicious and we love the texture of the noodles!

Once upon a time there was a popular Ramen restaurant that opened multiple branches throughout greater Vancouver, including in Burnaby, close by to Metrotown. That restaurant went by the name of Marutama but then one day they decided to change their name to Maruhachi. We had always loved this restaurant back when it was Marutama. They are well known for their creamy chicken broth, and their egg was one of the best ramen eggs we'd had anywhere. This was our first time trying Maruhachi since they rebranded. Featured here: Tamago Ramen (mild) Veggie Curry Ramen My husband said the size of the chashu was very small compared with the chashu that he saw in other people's orders, and that the flavor of the broth was just alright. It wasn't as good as it had been in the past. He did say though that the egg was still very good. It was well seasoned and had a runny yolk just like it used to. Veggie Curry Ramen was better than I expected it to be. I was still an omnivore the last time I came to this restaurant. Now I'm Pescatarian, so the Veggie Curry Ramen is pretty much the only dish I can eat from this restaurant's menu. I did end up enjoying it. The curry however was really more for flavoring the noodles than anything else. It wasn't a broth that I could see myself drinking so once I finished eating noodles, I left the liquid in my bowl. We had actually planned to eat somewhere else nearby as our dinner was last minute and we thought there would be a lineup at Maruhachi. Surprisingly, at 6:30pm on a Saturday, Maruhachi was quiet and we managed to get a table right away. Towards the end of our dinner however, there was a lineup outside the restaurant. 2nd choice another try? I think it has been a longgggg time since I last had a Maruhachui ramen from any of their locations. Original I was geared up to try Kamamarui Ramen around the corner for the first time but they hopped away for the Easter long weekend. (I think they are the last couple of ramen joints I still haven’t try yet). Anyways, this Maruhachi is located on the same corner block as Boiling Point, Chatime, Meetrice etc, corner of Kingsway and Royal Oak in Burnaby. There are pay street parkings available and if you are lucky there are limited free parking at the back. Typical little ramen joint so usually there’s a little lineup. Here were what I ordered this time around; 1. Goma-ae. It was a bit rubbery cause when “Yu choy” are preboiled, cooled and stored inside the refrigerator they tend to have that texture after a while. 2. Gyoza. Nice little crisp underneath but overall pretty basic. 3. Dashimaki. A little bland, I remember it used to be more flavourful?!? 4. Tamago ramen. The ramen texture was pretty good, the chashu was a bit dry more like boiled pork than chashu, the broth wasn’t hot. 5. Chashu tamago ramen. Everything pretty much the same as the tamago ramen except a few more slices of chashu. Once again, “cha shu” means BBQ NOT braised or boiled. The service here was decently good and glad to see a full female crew managing this whole operation in a very organized manner. As for the food; the food was pretty basic. Honestly, a lot of the ramen places not just this place should really understand the definition of “chashu”?!? Plus lightly seared sliced pork for soup noodles are always more aromatic and flavourful. And unlike beef or pork broth, the creaminess of chicken broth is hard to eat when it’s not hot. The exploration of other choices continue… P.S. yeah not a bit supporter of businesses that don’t accept cash, cards only. Employee trust issues?!?

Google
Always seeing a line-up outside this ramen shop. Today, found it with no line-up, so drop it for a bowl. Came in, heard the waitress talking with fluent Japanese to the kitchen. Good sign. Not that this would automatically translate to good authenticated food, but a better chance at least. I was having the standard Tamago ramen. Noodle was good texture. Soup was authentic, base on my experience. The half-boiled egg was really soft inside. Chasiu was a bit dry but acceptable. Size was ok, actually bigger than a lot of downtown ones with higher price. $15 was very ok. Good experience. May come back if no line-up.

Nice little restaurant with simple decor and great staff. Yes, they're cheerful, fast, and welcoming. My husband had the aka miso ramen while I had the tamago (with 2 pieces of chasiu pork and a marinated soft egg). The flavor was on point, portions were great. I recommend you order the side fried garlic, best spent $1! Will be back!

Google
Maruhachi Ramen, located near Metrotown, offers a variety of ramen options, but this review is tan-tanmen focused. On one hand, the flavor profile was decent and notably authentic. Unlike some places that add peanut sauce, Maruhachi’s version stays true to its roots, avoiding that inauthentic twist. However, there were several aspects that detracted from the overall experience. The amount of noodles was surprisingly low, and it felt like the abundance of bean sprouts was used to compensate for this shortage. This imbalance made the dish less satisfying. Additionally, the lack of meat in the tan-tanmen was disappointing. For a ramen dish that typically includes flavorful ground pork, this omission left the bowl feeling incomplete. Another issue was the ball of black seaweed, which dissolved into the broth, giving it an unappealing burned black appearance. This visual aspect, coupled with the lack of substantial ingredients, made the dish less appetizing. While the authenticity of the flavor was appreciated, the overall execution fell short. A more balanced approach with proper noodle portions, adequate meat, and a more thoughtful presentation would have greatly improved the dish. I would have preferred a more traditional tan-tanmen experience. For those in the Metrotown area craving ramen, Maruhachi Ramen may still be worth a visit, but perhaps opting for a different menu item might provide a better dining experience

Yelp
My go to place for a quick ramen, I always get my regular Charsu or double, as for the ramen noodles. Staff was quick and efficient, food always come as per order, bright interior base on exterior lights brings in.

Yelp
First time visiting since name change. It was after 1pm on a weekday and it wasn't busy. The server actually opened the door for me, greeting me warmly which was a nice gesture. She advised me on my way in, to read the sign on the door, which stated no cash accepted and payment by credit card or debit card only. Broth is quite rich and creamy, and it doesn't come with any bamboo shoots or spinach but it comes with lots of green onions. Glad I ordered the mild version and asked for chili sauce on the side. Server suggested I try a bit of the chili sauce for dipping instead of ordering the spicy version ramen and it was a good idea :) Their chili sauce was so authentic & spicy, it was def too spicy hot for me to add to the broth. I ordered the Tamago Ramen and really liked the soft boiled egg. I wasn't a huge fan of their pork slices because I found them a bit dry but I enjoyed the noodles a lot. Noodles refill available for $2. The garlic chips are not free and can be ordered (90 cents) - a nice addition to broth if you like garlic. If I visit again, I would be curious to try other items such as the veggie curry ramen or gyozas or their beers with special summer pricing for $4. I am now also keen to try their competition, the ramen place just around the corner on Royal Oak to compare the two eateries on whose ramen and broth I'd enjoy more. This place has limited free parking spots in the back, in a shared lot with Sherwin Paint and Boiling point. Very attentive service here as they would take note to fill up your tea and order came quickly. Overall, a convenient stop for ramen noodles on Kingsway with friendly 5 star service.

Yelp
Maybe one of the best ramen places on the west coast? No lie. Reminds me of marutama. The chicken broth is the clincher.

Yelp
When my girlfriend used to live near this restaurant, it was still called Marutama. We didn't know they changed their name until we visited it recently.  Although the name was changed, everything inside, from decreation to utensols and the serivice (they still have the same servers that we loved before), remained the same, so we didn't think much and ordered our usual favorites.  I ordered the chashu ramen, and my girlfriend ordered the tamago ramen. This ramen place has always been our go-to place. We loved how rich the soup was compared to similar restaurants. A lot of ramen places have rich broths, but we'd always leave with a dry mouth, maybe too much salt or mSG instead of pure ingredients that make the broth so rich. However, Maruhachi is not the same as the old Marutama; the soup now tastes way blander compared to the old recipe. We were very disappointed at how it tastes now; not only is the soupn't as rich, but it's lacking a lot of flavor. Although the important soup has been changed, the chashu and tamago remain pretty much the same quality. One of the reasons we loved Marutama so much was because they had thin noodles; luckily, the noodles are also the same. I looked up Marutama on Google Maps and I noticed they have all been changed to Maruhachi now. I wonder what happened to the old recipe, as a good bowl of ramen requires a good broth. Needless to say, we have lost interest in Maruachi. We hope they can hear our feedback and will bring us back in the near future.

Yelp
I was never a fan of chicken ramen until I tasted the ramen from maruhachi, the spicy chicken soup ramen is simply amazing, it's rich but clean at the same time idk how is that possible.the egg is also to perfection, it's beautifully done. I will for sure come back again.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Japanese ramen, this is not the place to go. I should have read more about this ramen shop prior to eating here on a recommendation. This is local to Vancouver, BC-- with fusion of different Asian flavors... not Japanese. It's chicken-broth based and not the pork-bone broth that Japanese ramen is known for. Their broth caught me off guard... almost tastes exactly like top ramen or cup noodles. The noodles are more somen-type and not the egg noodles known to be in ramen. Also, who puts cilantro and kimchi in ramen? Huge disappointment for me and my family who have actually lived in Japan. The only reason why I didn't leave it a one-star review is because my review is based solely on authenticity. For those who like cup-o-noodles ramen, this place might be for you.

Yelp
Marutama ramen has rebranded as Maruhachi ra-men. I had to do a double take when I drove by to make sure it was still the same spot because it was similar but the name just changed. The ramen here is pretty decent with a rich broth.

Yelp
I've been meaning to try out Marutama Ramen for awhile but for some reason, never made my way there until a girl friend called me last minute to hang out and suggested ramen. It's a cute restaurant that was surprisingly much larger than I thought and much bigger than your typical small ramen shops. My friend and I were seated at the window bar area and were greeted immediately with water or tea served. Always hard to decide what ramen to get but I ultimately decided on the Tamago ramen with chicken broth and an order of gyoza to share. My friend ordered the original ramen. The gyoza came first and was pan fried nicely with a bit of crunch but not over done. I enjoyed the light dipping sauce and not too much oil was used to cook the gyozas, which I appreciate. The Tamago ramen was decently portioned and I enjoyed the chicken broth as I often find the pork based broths too salty for my liking. If you come hungry, I recommend one of the larger bowls as the gyozas to share and the Tamago ramen bowl barely filled me up after a workout. All in all, a solid joint with good food with reasonable prices and great service. I can see why they keep on expanding and opening new locations throughout the Lower Mainland.

Yelp
My first time here since my gluten allergy disappeared and wow I really enjoyed this. Pretty sure they never CLAIMED to be 100% authentic Japanese for whoever decided to give a 1 star review but as someone who has tried other spots around vancouver I genuinely enjoyed every single bite and sip of this meal. The broth was so good and I loved the amount of chashu they gave. We got sat down right away as well and received very attentive service. There's a reason this spot has a good reputation and I highly recommend checking it out

Yelp
We came here per our friend's recommendation. Despite the wait and a bit of back and forth for not being able to sit together, we ended up getting in after 30mins of wait and have 1 table for all 6 people. I like the simple menu. It made it easy to pick what to have. I like that they have an option of mild and spicy for almost all their Ramen. I would say that their Ramen is about 4 stars. I find that it lacked the burst of flavor that I look for in a Ramen noodle soup. Maybe I should've ordered the spicy Cha Shu Ramen or the one with the ground nut. Hopefully I get a chance to try it next time. My son liked the perfectly soft-boiled egg. I usually have to ask him to finish the egg. But this time, he actually asked for the other half of the egg. Since I initially gave him half of the egg. The ramen was al dente, which I really liked. It has that firm chewy texture. It went very well with the soft, melt in your mouth, cha Shu. Service: 5 stars Appreciate the great and friendly service. Appreciated how they made our table for 4 expand to a table for 6, so we could all sit together, instead of split.

Yelp
I went here for a dinner with a friend on Thursday. This place was it since a friend wanted a ramen and I wanted to treat him. We got Aka Ramen with Tamago ($16.75) and Shoyu Ramen with Kaedama ($14.75). I loved my Aka Ramen it was quite tasty. There was some crunchy sour radish and lemon wedge to add some citrus flavour. It was super tasty with chili flakes, fried garlic and some sesame. I ended up sipping all the soup and it wasn't even salty at all. The light chicken broth soup was pretty good. Also the dining tables had a plexiglass to socially distance from each other. I'd totally go back here one day!

Yelp
For my money it's the best ramen I've ever had in the PNW. Service was friendly. Restaurant is also clean and bright. Great spot!

Yelp
Every time I passed by this place, I saw a line up. I finally came here to what the hype was all about. No regrets. It's a great place for a quick bowl of noodles and very filling too! They offer egg noodles with chicken cream broth which soup isn't heavy or rich. You can add sides such as extra cha su, egg or seaweed. Vegetarians have just one choice of vegetables with noodles. Their speciality is ramen noodles. They offer two choices of starters - Gyoza or dashimaki. Note you'll be seated once your entire party is there. You are asked to scan a code to log your contact info regarding Covid. Show up early as it gets crowded!

Yelp
We've ordered takeout from Marutama a couple times during quarantine, but nothing beats a fresh bowl of ramen! Didn't particularly enjoy their takeout ramen since the noodles were a bit stiff and didn't really absorb the broth as well, but every time we eat inside the quality and service is always exceptional and consistent. Since we were in the area, we decided to eat at the restaurant for the first time since the start of quarantine. As usual, the broth was creamy and decadent, and the egg was perfectly seasoned. Gyoza was crispy and a great accompaniment to the ramen. We got there at around 4:30 before the dinner rush, and there were still a few parking spaces open at the back as well as plenty of empty tables at the restaurant. Service was great as usual, the waitress checked up on how we were liking the food, which was a first for us at a Marutama. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Missed their creamy chicken broth, cha-shu and ramen during this pandemic. As soon as they reopened for dine in, I went with my friend in July. Social distancing in the dining room was excellent. All the servers were wearing a mask. They also have hand sanitizer at the entrance. No condiments on the table, but you may request it on the side. All and all made you feel safe. There was a bit of lineup on a weekend lunch time, but the wait was only about 20 minutes. It's worth it! I had a Cha-Shu Tamago Ramen (pork fillet, soft boiled eggs and aosa seaweed) with spicy sauce on the side. The spicy sauce really added a kick to the rich flavour of the soup base. The soft boiled egg was cooked perfectly with the right amount of runniness. Licking the bowl would not be surprising (of course I didn't do it!) My friend and I shared the Yaki Cha-Shu (grilled pork belly). They were divine! Their food was unquestionably delicious that you won't be disappointed. I learned in August they have the new Shoyu Ramen on the menu. Gotta try it out!
google avatar

Gloria F.

Yelp
New Shoyu ramen! I was quite surprised to see a Shoyu ramen on the menu. I have been ordering the Tamago ramen for years and this was the first time I ordered something different. The broth was still creamy, rich and full of bonito flavor. This ramen bowl does not come with sea lettuce, and I wish it did. It comes with chashu, bamboo shoots, and spinach Give this a try if you want a flavor profile ramen from Marutama!
google avatar

Kristie W.

Yelp
Wowzers--that deep, flavour-packed chicken broth! The noodles just soak up all that goodness. Their chashu is also incredibly tender without needing chunks of fat hanging off each piece. I would highly recommend choosing a ramen with tamago (marinaded soft boiled egg) or adding one on. The side of fried garlic and red chili flakes are like the cherry on top. I wish they served tsukemen at this location!

Yelp
After trying this once, I was thinking about it for the whole week and had to come back again. Tip: come in the between hours and even though the place is still busy you can get seated pretty quickly. On to the food: its delicious. This is the best chicken based broth for ramen I've ever had and the noodles were fresh and perfect texture as well. For just $1.25 more, you can get extra noodles for any left over broth you haven't slurped up already. But for $9.75, a ramen with a couple pieces of chasiu, aosa, green onions and a bunch of fried garlic is quite the bowl of comfort food heaven. The spicy level of the broth varied on the different days but it was a mute point since the broth is delish on its own. Happy to recommend and look forward to returning again!

Yelp
It was really good, I did have to wait in line for 15min. Service and atmosphere is nice. 4 star because i still think it can be cheaper but I recommend you try for once.

Yelp
New spot, came during their soft opening. They did great. Lined up outside and it took no more than 10 mins to get everyone inside. They take card only (no cash) just like their downtown location. Noodles and toppings were consistent quality and service was good - they came by to refill my water glass several times and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. Good thing we came at opening as there was a dozen people waiting outside as we ate. Lots of street parking available - yes there is a free lot but it's super tight.

Yelp
New branch of one of my favourite ramen restaurants in Vancouver. This one is probably the most convenient of the three as it's a 5 minute walk from Royal Oak Station. Craving some delicious ramen as of late, I couldn't resist. First things first, be aware that many other people will have the same idea as you and I of having some great food. Chances are folks will be waiting in line. It's also not the most roomy of restaurants. It's okay to sit in a small group but bigger groups will probably be harder to accommodate. Also, make sure you sign up on the list when there's a line! I went with my go to choice of the Cha-Shu Tamago Ramen. Once again, I gotta think Marutama has the right mix of everything to have the best ramen around. The chicken creamy broth Marutama has is still my favourite broth to drink up. I can't resist drinking it all up. I also enjoy how fine the noodles are as well as the nice hot-cold contrast when you eat the cha-shu up. Just a fantastic meal all around. Wholeheartedly recommend Marutama for all your ramen needs. They have a recipe that's pretty much been perfected in my opinion. Every last bite is just the best.

Yelp
Marutama finally has a location in my neighbourhood! This replaces Ramen Raijin and the soft opening was September 17. The restaurant uses a delicious chicken soup that is rich and yummy! I had the Chasu Tamago Ramen and as is with other locations, it was amazing. I prefer the soup to Jinya which is close by. The service was excellent and I can't wait to come back. Welcome to the Metrotown neighbourhood!

Yelp
The food taste like shit I almost vomited because it was so FUCKING SALTY. I think I have stomach problems now. Service was alright ig basic.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday night. It was pretty busy but it seemed like they turned tables quickly. ~20 min wait for a party of 2. I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture of the ramen before I started eating, but it was delicious. I personally prefer rice noodles over egg (which is usually what you find in ramen) so I very much enjoyed the noodles in this bowl. The seaweed does taste very unique from what you'd normally find in a ramen bowl, so I can see why someone might want a ramen bowl full of it. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Grand opening and finally have the time to try it out. Is it the same quality as the other locations: let's find out! Service: 5/5 Ramen wait time is quite long, hopefully the wait time can improve in the future. Atmosphere 5/5 - I feel this location is more spacious Ramen: Noodle: 5/5 I asked for a little bit more firm and it was cook to perfection Cha Shu-5/5 I feel this location the portion was bigger but it tasted a lot better than the other locations. Soft boil egg - 6/5 - this is how an soft boil egg should look and taste like! Full with flavor! Soup 5/5- delicious and creamy. The green onion and aosa seaweed take the greasiness away from the soup. I love it! If I really have to pick something I would say just a pinch less salt would be great. I was a bit thirsty afterwards I feel this is probably the best ramen I had out of all the Marutama locations.

Yelp
As with other Marutama outlets in vancouver, there is usually a line waiting during the meal hours. So go either when it opens (there are people waiting even before it opens!) or in the middle of the day after lunch and before dinner rush. There is a stand to write your name and party number if you need to wait. All need to be present before you get seated. Unfortunately there is no waiting area inside so good luck if it's raining or bitterly cold/windy outside. The food is yummy as the standard is consistent with the other outlets. Service is good though they could come around more often to top up the tea or water. No jugs of water on the table to help yourself here. The turnover of tables is pretty quick, at least 30 minutes for each diner to complete the meal. I don't think people linger over the ramen here as most are mindful of other people waiting outside. Street parking is available as is the currently empty lot next to it. Free parking at the lot now as no business has moved in yet. I am glad there is a Marutama in metrotown area so I do not have to go to downtown vancouver for my ramen fix.

Yelp
Good comfort ramen in town! Got the tamago ramen and tamago chasu ramen. I love tea here though you should definitely get the hot tea though! The ramen theyre just okay honestly but they did well on the tamago. The noodlez and the broth are just okay. As usual, its a comfort food!

My friend and I went here for a late lunch. We thought that we can avoid the line if we eat at 2 and we were wrong. There were still 16 people ahead of us when I put our names down for a table. Luckily, it wasn't raining or too cold that day. We ordered the ramen with the soft boiled egg. The broth is really creamy and flavorful. The strong chicken flavor comes through with every sip of the broth and the soft-boiled egg was done perfectly and perfectly seasoned. I like how they offered to put the spicy sauce on the side so I can adjust my own spiciness. It's so dangerous that they put the roasted garlic chips in front of me because I was so tempted to put the whole thing in. I will definitely come back again! PS. They don't accept cash in store.

Yelp
One of the few ramen shops that is actually Aquaman approved. The soup was good and had nice depth. The noodles could have been thicker, but could be their own style that is different from other shops. The gyozas were excellent as usual.

Yelp
I've been to this location multiple times, ever since they first opened. They have managed to maintain their quality and flavours every time, if anything, it gets better every time I visit. My favourite location is definitely the Robson location (flavour wise), but the Metrotown location is much more convenient for me (: Ramen broths are usually pork based, but Marutama makes it with chicken and that's what I love about it. The broth is so creamy, light and pure but it also carries a bunch of flavours. The char siu wasn't dry, but tender enough to fall apart. The egg was cooked to perfection every time, it definitely completes the ramen. Highly recommend adding in the garlic chips! They take covid protocols seriously. Your order is taken before you get seated and you must sanitize your hands upon getting seated. You are given a little slip to fill out your information and the condiments are now upon request (garlic chips, chilli powder and sesame seeds). Every table had full on plexiglass dividers, tables and chairs are sanitized thoroughly after each guest. Felt very safe dining in!

Yelp
This is my go to ramen place. I love the seaweed there - I always get the AOSA ramen. I really like the soup base as well - it's not too thick or salty. They do spicy well without making the ramen red.

Yelp
Just came here after reopening and was looking forward to eating a bowl of ramen. I've shied away from order ramen through Skip as I don't think it's going to yield the same flavors as when fresh. Prior to COVID the lineups at this location (well all their locations) were long and wasn't looking forward to the lineup especially with social distance seating. We arrived just after 7:30, put our names down and waited approximately 20 minutes. Prior to going in, you need to pre-order at the door, there's a menu in the window to help. Tables were sparse and at least 2- 4 meters away from each other. The servers and kitchen staff were all wearing masks so it's great to see they are doing their part to keeping their customers rather safe. I ordered the Aka Ramen and was worth holding off on getting it delivered. When the bowl came I was thinking it's rather small and don't know if it'll fill me up, but I was wrong. The broth was a bit spicy, deep in flavour and rich which helped fill my belly. The noodles were cooked well. The Char Siu tender and balanced between fat and lean. I ended up eating it all and was full...but because I had some broth left and yup order noodle refill just to finish the broth. Excellent stuff. I'm so glad they are opening a location in Richmond...line ups will be crazy as well.

Yelp
Marutama Ramen is slowly expanding into the burbs and I'm all for it. I've been to all their other branches (two downtown and Marutama Gaiden). If you haven't been, they specialize in tori-paitan. The Metrotown location is next to a Boiling Point and Cha Time. They took over from Ramen Raijin. We dropped in on an early Saturday (around 4:15pm) and lucked out as there was no wait. The inside was packed and service is exactly the same as their other locations. Constant refills of water and food comes out quickly. There was a massive line when we drove by that day (noon, 2pm and 7pm) so keep that in mind when you go. The menu is short and sweet; a few appetizers and 8 ramen options. My go to is usually the tamago ramen. Their beloved condiments (garlic chips, sesame seeds and red pepper flakes) are always on the tables. Make sure to tell them the noodle firmness you want (I always get firm). - Kae-dama ($1.75) - J was hungry so he ordered a noodle refill. It was a surprisingly large portion. - Dashimaki ($5.00) - four pieces of Japanese omelette. I've heard good things but oddly never ordered it. The dashimaki was warm, eggy and delicate. Perfect to whet your appetite. - Gyoza ($5.50) - pan-fried pork dumplings. Didn't find these particularly good. If you're going to get an appetizer, stick with the dashimaki. - Tamago ramen ($12.50) - this is their signature bowl with a soft-boiled egg. We got this mild so that you can taste the creamy chicken broth. Broth had good depth and flavour. Thin noodles were bouncy and firm as we requested. Cha-shu was tender and stayed that way while we ate. Tamago was perfectly cooked. Aosa seaweed and green onions add some balance to the bowl. - Tan-men ($12.50) - vegetable toppings (wood ear mushroom, cabbage, carrot, green beans and green onions). We decided to branch out and try their vegetable ramen. The broth surprised me; had much more flavour than I was expecting. A little lighter but still warm and inviting. The mix of vegetables was great but would have liked more mushrooms. - Aka ramen ($14.75) - rich flavour with grounded nuts and chili. I had a couple of bites of J's bowl. The broth was excellent with a slight heat and you can really taste the seafood (dried shrimp). Card payment only. Whenever people ask me what my favourite ramen spot is in the city, I always tell them to check out Marutama. Satisfying, quick and consistent.

Yelp
We got lucky one night when there was no line up outside this establishment. I'm guessing Burnaby still craves for a good ramen and I would like to think that Marutama is one that would satisfy this craving. I thought this place was just ok. Menu is quite small which I like. It makes me decide fast what to order. The service inside is good but the only thing that turns me off was that people have to stay outside waiting for a table. Although we didn't wait, I feel sorry for people who did. It was freezing cold. If we had to wait outside, I would rather go to a different ramen place. The inside was very clean. You may have to share a table with other people when no private table is available. We are used to sharing tables so we didn't mind this at all. I ordered the AKA ramen. I thought it was good. The broth is creamy. I love creamy broth. My husband ordered the Tamago ramen. I had a sip of the Tamago ramen broth. I think I like that one better. Would I go back to this place? Maybe. When there's no line up and don't have to wait out in the cold. But I would still recommend this place. it's not that all bad.

Yelp
Okay... so was in the area with some of my friends and we craved a good bowl of Ramen. A quick search and found the Marutama was only 5 min away and opening in 15min! Score! Got there and... a lineup?!?!?!?!? Already!!!! Must be good!!!! The service was organized and we were seated when it opened. We ordered the signature and a veggie ramen. Within 10 min we were served a bowl of deliciousness! And a pint of S&O to go with it too!!! Will we come back? Well there was still a line up when we left... so... if you have time to wait in line... GO!

Yelp
Recently opened in Burnaby, they're known for their light creamy chicken broth with no MSG or imitation flavours. I came here mid-afternoon, on a weekday; as a result, there was no lineup and there were empty tables and chairs. I was quickly directed to a long communal table after entering the restaurant. I had the spicy cha-shu tamago ramen which included the chashu pork fillet and soft-boiled egg. I requested spicy, but it wasn't even mildly spicy and it was the least spiciness dish I've had in the longest time. So, I added the red pepper flakes, and it was only mildly spicy. Oh well, I was expect sweat from my forehead spiciness, but it just didn't happen. The soup made from boiled chicken bones had a milky texture with a very mild chicken taste, but I detected a very light artificial taste of dishwashing liquid soap. I would only assume that the staff didn't rinse their hands long enough with water when washing their hands or they didn't rinse the dishes well. There were four pieces of somewhat moist non-rolled chashu were on the dry side with very little fat. Good chashu should have some fat to it. Maratama Ramen in Japan serves their chashu rolled with some nice amount of fat ( bit.ly/2OCJbdT ). Chashu cooked Japanese rolled style retains its moisture, so you wouldn't have to eat a dry piece of meat that would look like it came from the deli section from Costco. Not everyone wants to dip their chashu into the soup to add moisture. I did dip the chashu into the soup - problem solved. There was an ajitsuke tamago egg which I thought was pleasant firm texture, but it was just too salty. The noodles were thin and light with a melt in your mouth light texture to it. The toppings were aosa sea lettuce and green onions. I love green veggies and more people need to eat more of it due to the health benefits, but there were way too little. Maratama Ramen in Japan serves their ramen that are heavily topped with aosa sea lettuce and green onions and they seriously need to do it here! Their washroom was very clean, but their sign beside the cashier that reads, "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone." is very vague and unwelcoming for a new business.

Yelp
This place never fails to let me wait. I am glad they are opening new locations-now at Metrotown. Prior to all the new locations this is the OG, we trek all the way from the other end of GVRD. They do everything exceptionally well. Variety of noodles, varying textures of noodles, meats, sauces. They cater to all taste buds apparently. Service is typically very spot on with Japanese enthusiasm and curt politeness. Ramen are adequately priced for a quick meal. Definitely will try out their new locations to see if they are up to par with the OG.

Yelp
Have you been to the newest @marutama_canada location beside Metrotown yet? I just got the chance to visit and boy is that lineup long! You put your name down and wait for at least half an hour if you're a party greater than 2, but they've got a good system with the name board. As we were waiting for spots, we got to see almost all the menu items being served, and I had to go all in with the Chashu Tamago ramen ($14.75). This was loaded with 4 large and thick slices of deliciously tender Chashu and a whole egg. This was a very generous portion. The noodles were thin, but perfect ramen texture, not soft or soggy at all! Broth was creamy but light. Only downside was that there wasn't enough broth to soak the Chashu into at the beginning. Also pictured is their original ramen ($9.75), which would've been a better portion for myself. Overall, very quick service, and although it was very busy, I never felt rushed and staff were attentive.

Yelp
- tamago ramen = $11.25 - 《Chungry Rating = 9.5/10》 Chicken or Pork. Which is better?! Controversial opinion, maybe, but I love chicken broth ramen. In Vancouver, I don't know if anybody does it better than Marutama Ramen. One of my favourite things when I dine here is their quick service. The food comes out super fast, while still being absolutely delicious. Fast service AND amazing food, what a great combo! Marutama is known for their addition of AOSA sea lettuce (a type of seaweed) to their ramen. It's a topping that really accentuates the more subtle flavours in the broth. It doesn't taste too "sea-watery", and also gives a nice texture difference to the dish. And speaking of toppings, make sure you don't forget about the deep fried garlic flakes! They have a small jar on every table, so do yourself a favour and scoop some (or a lot) into your ramen! The deep, richness of the garlic gives each bite of ramen an awesome kick of flavour! Hands down, one of my favourite ramen places in Vancouver, if not THE favourite!!

Yelp
TOP RAMEN PLACE! So far, this place is my top ramen resturant. The noodles is just perfect and the soup is just right! Plus the meat doesn't have a lot of fat which is a bonus! I love my meat meaty! The ZENBU bowl is $18, it expensive for ramen but you get a lot of meat and 1 egg. It's so worth it thoough!!!

Yelp
We arrived for dinner walk in and waited about 10-15 min to get seated. We ordered gyoza, shoyu and cha shu tamago ramen. Everything tasted great. Sometimes I find ramen can be too salty but this broth wasn't - it was a good balance and the flavour was great. The portion is big enough but not too big that you wouldn't be able to finish it. Our server was also super nice and checked in often. The inside isn't that big and a bigger line formed while we were eating so i'd definitely say to come by a little earlier. There is street parking right in front of the restaurant and it is free after a certain time.

Yelp
The broth was the "bomb!" rich, delicious, and awesome I ordered AKA ramen and I love it! You can choose your condiments - fried garlic, sesame seeds or chili. I used all Check it out. It's worth it even you can line up to get in.

Yelp
If you're a ramen lover in Vancouver, you've probably heard of Marutama Ra-men. This iconic chain founded in Japan back in 2001 has spread across the globe and is known for their signature creamy chicken broth with aosa seaweed. Recently, they opened up a new location near Metrotown (in the former Ramen Raijin spot on Kingsway) and I visited during their soft opening. Knowing how fanatical ramen people are, I made sure to show up early to avoid the lineups. I was maybe 5 minutes past their opening time and the place was already packed. I managed to get one of their last open seats at the large communal table and perused their rather limited menu offering. Although they don't have a large number of items on their menu, you can somewhat customize your ramen bowl to your liking. However, I just stuck with the basic Tamago Ramen ($11.25) and asked for the mild option. After that, I waited, and waited, and waited... they seemed rather slow but that could be because it was their soft opening. When my food finally arrived, there was already a lineup of diners outside the restaurant waiting patiently for a table. The bowl comes with 2 pieces of chashu which I found to be okay but not the tenderest that I've had before (I've had much better elsewhere). The ajitama (soft-boiled egg) was nicely prepared with a creamy and partly runny yolk. While you can add a noodle refil for $1.50, I thought there was an adequate amount of noodles already in the bowl. The thing that most people are here for is the broth. I did enjoy how the aosa seaweed and green onions melded with the flavours and the broth was fairly creamy. That being said, I felt the broth was overly salty and I carried that feeling in my mouth for a few hours after my meal. Is this the best ramen spot in the Vancouver area? That's probably a bit of a personal question (and, to be fair, this was their soft opening). IMOH, the broth was overly salty and the service was slow. Probably not something that I would line up for. That being said... I decided to give them another try and returned for a revisit about a month later. This time around, I ordered the Cha-Shu Tamago Ramen ($14.75) and Gyoza ($5.50) The Gyoza was the first to arrive and had a light crispness to the exterior with a warm pork and veggie filling and tart dipping sauce. These actually weren't too bad (maybe things are looking up?) I have to admit that this bowl of ramen was much better than what I tried on my first visit. The pieces of cha-shu were larger and a lot more tender than on my first visit and the broth, while still somewhat salty, was much less salty than on my initial go around. In the bowl, you also get a marinated ajitama (egg) with a somewhat creamy yolk. If you go for the spicy option with your ramen, you might notice that the spicy kick creeps up on you as you drink the broth. My thoughts? I'm assuming my experience on the first visit is a bit of a throwaway and that they were still working things out. The second visit was much better. That being said, this place is super duper busy (even when they first open up). The menu is fairly limited with just variations on the same staples but I guess that allows them to control their quality. If you're really into ramen and have never been here before, then you might want to try this place out... just show up early or be prepared for a wait. If you're not a big ramen fan, I wouldn't bother with the lines.

Yelp
Came by on a rainy Sunday afternoon (3pm) because we were so excited for a new Marutama in the Burnaby area. Jam packed, but fortunately it had fast service so we didn't wait long. We were in and out in half a hour (waiting and eating). We both ordered tamago ramen, one spicy and one mild. Compared to the Marutama restaurants downtown, this location matches up to them. As usual, great creamy chicken broth and bouncy firm noodles. Chasiu lean but soft, seasoned well. Great service, walkable distance from Royal Oak station, and awesome food!

Yelp
I'm so happy Marutama is now in Burnaby and this branch is located behind Metrotown. The place is nice and staff are friendly. Expect a long lineup so come a bit early especially on weekends. As expected, the ramen is very good. I'm glad the consistency is there. Sounds weird but they don't accept cash. Debit and credit only. Will definitely go back here.

Yelp
So glad that there is a Marutama in my neighborhood now! I came here with my family at an off-time (~4pm) so we got a table immediately. Shortly after, a line started forming at the door and groups of people had to wait outside. Their signature chicken broth is amazing. You can get the mild, or spicy version. I chose the spicy version, and firm noodles. They even have an option to add extra noodles for a low price (I think it was $1.00)?? We also ordered the gyoza, which was a nice thing to have on the side. Happy that this place exists so we don't have to travel all the way downtown. Woohoo!

Yelp
Disappointed that the quality was not as good as the time I went to the Marutama in the West end. Less aosa and broth was watered down. I ordered mild spicy but it was not spicy at all. Pros are that the location is good, egg was still fairly good and the service is fine. I actually came here twice to see if anything would change and unfortunately their original restaurant is still better for the Marutama experience.
