On the Grid : Mary St Bakery

"Mary St Bakery has evolved somewhat into an institution for Perth. Their original cafe space is located in Highgate, with West Leederville being their second location. But if you are under the illusion that West Leederville is just another cafe you’re wrong, it's a baking powerhouse, with a team of professional bakers working 24/7 to produce all of their signature goods. Apart from a very short list of happily adopted products, every morsel at Mary’s is made in-house from scratch. From their butter and jam to the aromatic baked bread you will find passion and talent in every crumb and crust that passes your lips. With such an indulgent flair, you visit Mary's to immerse yourself in food, either take it home on the hips or complement your inner health freak to suit your mood." - Juicebox

Mary Street Bakery is definitely a popular spot among the locals, and it's easy to see why! Every time we've been, the food is consistently good, with a great range of tasty options. Their coffee is good. It's clear they've mastered the art of baked goods, making it a reliable and enjoyable choice for a casual bite or a decent brew. A popular spot for fur babies

Google
Came in for coffee and was pleasantly surprised by how big the breakfast menu was. The fried egg cucumber salad was super refreshing and tasty, and the egg and soldiers hit the spot!! I also ordered the malt milk which made my day. I’ve been trying to find malt milk in Perth for ages, so I was stoked to finally come across a cafe that offers it! One happy customer here.

Dexcellent Reviews

Google
No Lactose free milk A long time since I've been here and things have changed and not for the better..... It's great that they do table service and the small cake I had was yummy. I also had a coffee as needed a fix however for those that can't have lactose and can't stand the other so called milk substitutes, unfortunately you are out of luck as they are one of the VERY FEW cafes that don't DONT DO lactose free milk. Other disappointment was a guy working there was extremely loud. Good service and attentive but just needs to tone the volume a little. Other disappointment was for those people that pay only cash and don't use debit or credit cards, we'll don't even bother going in as they " do not accept cash" I can understand if we in WA had covid but we don't. I had to use a credit card of mine that has expired as I don't use it. I was surprised it worked unless it gets rerurned/ rejected after I left.. Very disappointing visit. See below my previous early review Great place for coffee, cake, breads and lovely pastries and breads. Staff are friendly and approachable. There are a few different areas you can sit including outside. Always seems to be busy too as popular place. Great food, great service

Google
Sunday afternoon brunch all day breakfast on point! Had a combo scrambled eggs with avocado and chorizo … scrambled eggs top class and good side serve of the avo and chorizo. Winner was the fried chicken butter milk pancakes with maple syrup and peanuts… decadence! Coffee ok.

Google
Extremely busy place, plenty of wait staff and very efficient. Ordered the scrambled eggs on toast (didn’t like the taste of the toast and only ate couple of bits - had an unusual taste), good crispy bacon and hash browns- these are home made with a spicy sauce. Great coffee.

Google
Coffees on your day off always taste better for some reason. Capp and almond croissant were on point. Keen to come back again!

Google
This place has significantly improved over a year. I am glad they are open on holidays. The new chef has got a bunch of Eurasian specials you may want to try. I just wish the golden days of Beaufort street festival were back.

Google
Outdoor sitting was lovely, not busy on a Monday morning. Good coffee. Enjoyed the beef brisket eggs Benedict, the Asian-style radish was really delicious! Scrambled eggs on toast was alright, nothing spectacular.

Yelp
Delicious!! Breakfast with friends, as per their recommendation I got the fried chicken and pancake. The photo does not do it justice. It's one giant fluffy pancake topped with fried chicken and smothered in maple syrup with chilli in it which helps cut the sweetness. It's a very big meal so come hungry. Naturally I HAD to try one of the donuts. I got the passion fruit curd filled donut to go and eat later. It was amazing!! It was hard to choose just one when you look at the donut cabinet.

Yelp
The coffee was nice! The pastries are huge in size which is nice, but the swirl tasted a bit stale. Nice place to sit a while, got our orders quick from the staff

Yelp
Love this place, the staff are always so nice and helpful, coffee is GREAT, poached eggs always perfect and the donuts are fresh and yummy. Thank you MSB

Yelp
2 parts flour, 1 part hipster, add yeast, bake. Finally, Perth gets its first new-age artisan bakery. Cos, if you read the (food) journalism, its a big thing right now. And the hipsters have already found their way to MSB. You'll be welcomed by the familair faces from Cantina/El Publico/ACE, who warm you with their knowledge and charismatic demeanour (most notably the blonde guy and Dan). The mixed wood and paired back furnishings make you instantly feel at home, too. Coffee is well-prepared, but it didn't sell me with a wake-me-up-before-I-go-go oomph. Next time, maybe. The creative baked goods will make you curse a gluten-free diet. Beautiful loaves, bread-based brunches, gut-busting cakes and biscuits, daily pie and sausage roll specials, and Aesop to wash the grease of your hands afterwards. Extra credit for the house-made tomato sauce and rhubarb jam! If you're carb loading, make this your destination, Yelpers!

Yelp
Yum, super fresh donuts and meals. Great coffee and reasonable customer service. They have 2 shops , one on Mary street obviously and another on Abbortsford street.in west Leederville

Yelp
Let them eat cake... and raspberry almond tarts, orange poppyseed loaf, artisan sourdough, and donuts - salted caramel, lamington, pistachio and rosewater, maple cream, malt, and pina colada! If Marie Antoinette lived in Mount Lawley, Mary Street Bakery would be her local. A firm neighbourhood favourite any and every day of the week, Mary Street Bakery delivers the goods by being a coffee shop, brunch place, meeting venue and high quality bakehouse all in one. I am always pleased by the friendly service from staff that have been there since the doors opened (a good sign!) plus the cozy and inviting atmosphere that I am fond of. Now most people come here for the fried chicken waffles or the latest dessert craze, I have tried neither. But I do enjoy having afternoon meetings over an almond cappacaunio as the Pound coffee is exceptional and the nut milk is frothed to a creamy, full-bodied consistency. I always pry in the glass cabinet to see what magnificence they have baked up and I pop in for my go-to loaf of gluten free bread - pro-tip: get them in the morning as they are extremely popular. The gluten free bread is a work of art - dense, chewy and toasts to a satisfying crunch. You could really eat one of everything from the breakfast and lunch menu, with a few vegetarian and gluten-free options on offer plus Instagram-azing plate presentation and quirky yet comfortable interiors. There's a reason Mary Street Bakery is everyone's main gal!

Yelp
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG People come from all over to buy from this place. And now I see why!!! I need a bigger belly and a bigger bank account. I just want to try EVERYTHING!! Comfy place to enjoy a snack or a meal Friendly staff who know what they are selling

Yelp
OMG baked goods heaven! These guys are known for their baked goods and I can see why. They make pastries, cakes, biscuits, sourdough and doughnuts (both filled and unfilled). I have tried the salted caramel doughnut before and it was delicious! It was filled with a yummy burnt salted caramel which was amazing. On this occasion though we went for a malt doughnut and it was equally as good. Now, onto breakfast which we actually consumed prior to the doughnut but I thought I should get that out of the way as it was the best bit! Breakfast though was still amazing! My husband had the fried chicken pancake (yes, you read that correctly) and I had the quinoa Bircher. The chicken was perfectly cooked and the pancake was nice and light. My Bircher was tasty and made me feel virtuous and it was GF, DF and vegan. It's a great spot on Beaufort St so give it a try!

Yelp
Haven't been back to Mary street for a while and thought we would come here for lunch today. We waited 40 minutes to get our food served, and it wasn't even that busy (we got here after 1:30pm to avoid the crowd and lines). We ordered the usual (fried chicken pancake) and something new (prawn omelette). After waited 40 mins for our food, the chicken was served lukewarm! At this point in time, we were too hungry to send the food back so we just ate it. MSB, seriously, I hope this was an one-off thing.

Yelp
Love this place! Lovely food, lovely decor, lovely services and lovely people! Tried the fried chicken and pancake, it was divine! The chicken was really crispy on the outside, even with the syrupy sauce drizzled on top it did not go soggy, and was extremely moist on the inside. It went really well with the fluffy pancake underneath. The corianders and peanuts were a nice touch too! Offering a contrasting texture on the palate. I also ordered a side of mushrooms, because I'm crazy about mushrooms. It came with lots of fresh herbs, it was altogether a rather nice combination!

Yelp
I have never had a bad coffee or meal at Mary Street Bakery, this became my local when I was living in Mt Lawley for a while and I am so sad I don't live closer to it now however my bank probably thanks me. Highlights - they make a mean Short Macchiato and flat white. A nostalgic heart throb of mine is the soft boiled eggs and toast soldiers they scream comfort to me. Staff are super friendly. Lowlights - none I have none other than I can't go there every day of t

Yelp
Mary street is my local. Have been going there since it opened and have always had a great experience! Went there yesterday for the first time in ages, originally just going for a coffee (which was perfect might I add) Then got a bit peckish , my friend went for the "soldiers" and I went for this bread pudding with Beetroot which was delicious!

Yelp
Had the beef cheeks with eggs this morning and I have not stopped thinking about them since. The beef was amazingly tender and the chimichuri sauce gave a lovely spice to the whole dish. They made this gluten free for me so unfortunately I couldn't have the crispy potato which came with the dish, but my partner (who ordered the same thing) said it was incredibly good. If there was a food to risk the repercussions of coeliac disease, then that crispy potato was it haha. They substituted the potato with a slice of gluten free toast and I would have to say, it was the best gluten free bread I have tasted. I'm hoping to receive a loaf for my birthday.. We interacted with at least 3 different staff members and all of them were very pleasant and accommodating. They seemed to really enjoy their jobs and helping customers. Can't wait to go back here :)

Yelp
Came here during a quick stop-off before the zoo, bought a few pastries, smoothie and a toasted sandwich. Came here in the morning around 10-11am, super busy. The staff were efficient behind the counter but it was still a decent wait in a crowded small area. It would have been very competitive to get seating at any time as this place is always busy from what I've seen. We had ordered a escargot danish, brownie, banana oat smoothie and chicken sambo..... - Banana oat smoothie, super underwhelming and definitely not worth the price - escargot danish left little to be desired - the brownie wasn't bad, but we had waited over 20 minutes and I don't think it justified the wait - the chicken sambo was one of the best toasted sandwiches I've ever had in my life, even given how off putting our experience was with the business and waiting, I'd still go back just for another one of these babies.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times for brekky and always had a nice time and a yummy meal, today was no exception! I started with a nice soy mocha and because I wasn't that hungry I had the homemade pork sausage roll, it was delicious! It is a big sized roll too with yummy homemade pastry and came with a homemade tomato relish. Perfect for brekky, especially if you're craving something simple but yummy. I also had a cold pressed OJ, the only disappointment is that it's a small bottle and costs $8. Everyone on the table was also happy with their meals including the baked eggs and the brisket so I think you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. And grab a baked good on your way out too, especially the donuts!!

Yelp
Mary's one hell of a gal! She'll serve you delicious breakfasts in the comfort of her trendy abode. She'll fill your weekly shopping bags and picnic baskets with incredible artisan loaves. She'll get you drooling over her sweet treats, unsure whether to take home the cream filled lamington, chocolate cream filled donut, lemon meringue pie or red velvet cupcake. She'll even cold press some juices for you too!
google avatar

Caprice B.

Yelp
If there was more parking I would stop at Mary Street Bakery every time I drove past just for the salted caramel doughnuts! Milkshakes are awesome, coffee is great and breakfasts are delish! Not great with little kids as they have no highchairs and no room for prams. Easy to grab a takeaway and walk down to Hyde Park anyway.

Yelp
I went to Mary Street Bakery for breakfast when it first opened and was a little uninspired, but the menu and service have come a long way since then. There's a really interesting selection of dishes to choose from, not to mention the great selection of baked goods to take home (or eat in the car) for second breakfast. I started with a mocha which was pretty average, although what I went there for was a dish you've probably seen on social media - fried chicken, buttermilk pancake, maple syrup, peanuts and a fried egg (apparently there's chilli in there as well but I didn't spot it). Not a particularly healthy start to a Sunday, but wow! A huge, fluffy pancake covered in loads of crisp but soft chicken, moistened with maple syrup & crushed peanuts - the perfect combination of sweet and savoury. I thought the egg was unnecessary but hey, it's breakfast so why not? Definitely worth a visit, just get there early as it gets very busy.

Yelp
Mary's does dinner!!!! My taste buds experienced something I haven't had in a long, long time. It's when you take that first bite and your mouth stops chewing so you can savour the flavour just a bit longer. And it was like that for all three courses. A kaleidoscope of taste I cannot describe adequately. We chose the mushroom lasagne, braised beef and a salad of Apple iceberg bacon honey, wow. Ordered a great gin cocktail called Pink! They have a wonderful selection of wine, beer and cocktails too. The service was impeccable, they take bookings too and they, MSB, have their own unique entryway through the window. My only disappointment was there was no room for dessert which I will definitely make room for next time. Cannot wait to go again. Thank you MSB

Yelp
Holy hipster! This place has the classic trademarks of any of the Alex C joints; good coffee, good food, neon signage... The baked good all looked a-ma-zing(!!!!!) (Watch out Lawley's). I tried a fruit bun, and despite my aversion to sultanas, it was delicio. The fit-out is also a delight, but no less was to be expected given the past feats of these restauranteur entrepreneurs (Cantina, Il Publico, Ace Pizza). I will be back here, though perhaps sheepishly as I don't consider myself to be part of the M.L. Massive (the street name of the Mount Lawley hipster pack). All in all, congratulations again you lot (sigh, can they do anything wrong?) This place is worth a stop-in if you are in the M.L. locale.

Yelp
all I can say is YUM! I popped in the other day for a afternoon pick me up and this was just what the doctor ordered. The array of baked goods was overwhelming from cheesecakes to lamingtons there was something for everyone. I tried the salted caramel doughnut and the smoothie. Let's just start with the doughnut... how can I eat them all day everyday without getting diabetes?? because that is the life I want. I almost felt that I needed a fork to eat it as the caramel was so oozy and sticky that I didn't feel very lady like but I ignored that as I wolfed the sweet tasty doughy goodness down. The smoothie was just the right balance for my sweet treat. It wasn't overly sweet and had enough fruit and substance to it that it felt like it might have contributed to my 2&5, that could just be wishful thinking but even if it wasn't on the heart councils approved list it was mighty tasty and filling. I was a little concerned that my drink came in a take away cup and saw others having their coffee in takeaway cups in the store however it was towards closing time so I will have to re-check their environmentally friendly level on my next visit. If you are in the area definitely drop in for some of the wonderful mouthfuls available here.

Yelp
A sensational place on Beafort Street, their cakes and pastries are delicious. We had to have 2 coffees each as they were just beutiful Check out the photos that we had of the chocolate tart http://www.coffeeblogger.com.au/2013/09/mary-street-bakery/ Highly recommend it..

Yelp
Enjoyed a nice brunch here today with a gal pal. Started with one of their fresh juices which was really refreshing, though quite a small size bottle. My friend got the chicken and pancakes and i got the pork belly with black pudding, Scotch egg with what seemed to be a pesto and hummus spread and fisnished with a relish of some kind. All of it was deliciously heavy and large in portion size. I was pretty content after eating half my dish. Definately a brunch kinda meal though i did see some lighter breakfast options which looked pretty good.
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
Love the buttermilk fried chicken pancakes - big enough to share between two people if you're not absolutely starving. Also can't go past the salted caramel doughnuts or gingerbread with quince and marscarpone if you want something a little sweeter. The coffee is good, although served in quite small cups.
google avatar

Yelp
Mary St bakery is a buzzing place with two sections of indoor seating and outdoor seating. Always expect a wait. And the takeaway coffee queue is pretty long too. If you're after a takeaway they've got scrumptious doughnuts ( rose pistachio doughnut), croissants and bread. I had breakfast here on a Saturday with a friend. We were seated within 10 minutes but waited for 20 minutes for our coffees. (The only negative). I ordered the baked eggs with spiced mancho chickpeas in a tomato base. It came with some sourdough bread. It was the most delicious thing I've had in a while. The chickpeas had the right amount of spice and were roasted. The tomato sauce was herb flavored and delicious. The baked eggs were done just right with no drippy yolk. My meal plus a coffee was 23 dollars. Awesome portion size. Next time I'm getting the fried chicken with buttermilk pancakes.

Yelp
Love, love, love this little place. I went on a Saturday morning without a booking a managed to get a table for two within five minutes Staff were really good, not long after we sat they were requesting drinks orders and were happy to answer any of our qn's about the menu. I had the quinoa bircher - delicious! So fresh and the flavors were delicious.. blood orange, kiwi, almonds etc. They don't do freshly squeezed juice but do offer cold pressed juices, which were fine. My friend had good old eggs on toast with side of avocado, really good portion of avo and she really liked the eggs. Definitely worth a try

Yelp
3.5* for MSB. There is so much hype about Mary Street Bakery that I had to give it a try. In the end? It was okay. Worth all this hype about being so amazing for weekend breakfast? I wouldn't say so. Not for a coeliac. For those more fortunate, definitely great but not for us GF eaters. We walked in at midday and it was still pretty busy. We took a seat up at the communal table and waited to get a menu over. We ordered a coffee which, after all the reviews I read complaining about the 20 minute coffee wait, came relatively quickly and a smoothie which didn't actually arrive until after my food had. The coffee was okay and the smoothie was good although tasted a little odd. Banana and berries but topped with orange juice, good but not really my vibe. I ordered the baked eggs which were AMAZING! The crunchy chick peas on top were next level and I had the option of GF bread on the side but was told that as a coeliac I would want to avoid it because the GF bread is kept side by side with the standard bread and toasted in the same toaster so cross contamination is unavoidable. Heartbreaking news for myself because I came to the bakery set on trying the bread I had heard so much about! On the side my friend ordered polenta chips, again GF in theory but fried in the same dryer they use for everything and, as such, not suitable for coeliacs (sob). But, alas, apparently I wasn't missing out on anything. They were thick and floppy and gelatinous and really not that nice at all. So much so that we spoke to out server about them and they removed them from our bill. To end we left with a malt glaze donut which was delicious (again, not for me, sob) and I had the lemon polenta came which I was told was the only cake that I could eat safely - it's kept away from the other cakes and wrapped individually. I'll definitely be back, but if I want a lush GF breakfast? I think you're more likely to catch me over at Sayers Sister.
google avatar

Sinead H.

Yelp
Doughnuts... need I say more? If you've heard of Mary Street Bakery purely as a result of their incredible salted caramel doughnuts there's a damn good reason why. Full of sumptuous gooey and buttery salted caramel these live up to all the expectations and tick each and every box, big, messy, fresh and delicious what more could you want out of a filled doughnut?! But don't be afraid to try their other doughnutty offerings all incredible in their own right, a favourite of mine being the monstrously large pistachio and rosewater (yum!) my only complaint as a rosewater-holic is give me more!! As good as all the other doughnuts are but, you'll never want to leave without a salted caramel one for later. If the doughnuts are anything to go by I can't wait to try the rest of their products!
google avatar

Kelly N.

Yelp
As a bakery, this place is fantastic with yummy muffins (I love the savory ones such as spinach and feta) and good breakie options. Love the ambiance of the place with tables to eat separated out from the main order counter, decor gives a hipster vibe. However, one caveat - the takeaway coffee / chai is very marginal - essentially luke warm milk with little taste. The "extra hot" request would be essential.
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
I'm not sure what all the fuss is about this place. If you are not out for salad like food, it's not all that appealing. My dish was simple as it looks, a sliver of salmon on top of fresh bread with a few bits of salad to bulk it up...meh! The only positives were the ability to poach the egg perfectly and the fresh rounds of bread. Not impressive at all, I definitely wouldn't recommend it to a hungry person! The second dish, the pancakes, were the polar opposite! A filling meal with juicy chicken pieces on top. A little heavy on the maple syrup but that's a personal preference.

Yelp
Having read so many rave reviews and heard so many wonderful things about Mary Street Bakery, my friend and I decided to treat ourselves to breakfast on our way to work. Due to it being quite early, it was not very busy but within a few minutes of our being seated it really started to fill up due to its popularity. I chose to have the buttermilk pancakes with the fried egg, fried chicken and the maple syrup and it was delicious. The contrast of the sweet and the savoury flavours works surprising well. Also the texture of the crispy chicken contrasts brilliantly with the soft, fluffy pancakes. It is a hearty meal which will leave you well satisfied. The macchiato I had was well made and I did enjoy it. The service was good and the waitstaff was extremely pleasant in spite of it being so busy, she still managed to deliver service with a smile. I also bought some of the legendary salted caramel doughnuts to take home and I can assure you, they live up to their reputation. Mary Street Bakery has taken the humble doughnut to a whole new level and I'm hankering for one right now!

Yelp
Wow it gets busy here, and I can see why, coffee was great, even sitting outside on a cold winter morning was worth the service and the food. I tried the slow cooked eggs on toast and the recommend bacon as an add on. Very nice and filling. I then went in side and couldn't pass the opportunity to try a Red Velvet Cup Cake, so fresh and tasty. I must have looked in heaven as my friends went inside to only come out with Donuts to share, there was only silence as everyone enjoyed the flavours. I only got photos of the Donuts as we gobbled down the rest too quickly. Definitely a recommend. We will be back.

Yelp
The cage was busy at lunch time on a weekday but we managed to find us a couple of seats. The table was cleared but it wasn't wiped down. When I asked the waitress to do it. She was making faces when she turned away. I saw her taking orders from the customer on the next table and as she turned away she was making faces and rolling her eyes. Not cool. We tried the salted caramel doughnuts but it was a little stale. So we didn't rate it. The buttermilk pancakes and fried chicken was good!! It was a tad spicy but I love the pancakes! I had the bread pudding. It wasn't great in its own but the beetroot cream cheese was surprisingly good that it made it tasty when they were eaten together. I accidentally left my credit card on their machine and to their credit they kept it. I rang the listed number but it was an answering machine and they rang back at the end of the day. Sadly, I had already cancelled the card. I would come back to try the pancakes again if I was in the area but that waitress..

Yelp
I have now eaten here twice, today for breakfast and once as a lucky attendee of a stranger danger dinner (Get on this). for brekky this morning I had slow poached eggs on toast with my usual skinny long mac. It was exactly what I needed to start my day. for dinner we had the Mary Street degustation, I definitely recommend this, the food was just incredible and the service was impeccable. We had a sommelier match wines for us all night and not to mention the entertainment of the stranger danger dinner in its own right. Definitley give Marys a try for what every you fancy.

Yelp
I've visited Mary Street Bakery a couple times on recommendations of friends. It's a great place but this week I went for mid week brunch. SLOW COOKED EGGS! Talk about amazing! I can't quite explain how they are so good. Something about the yolks. The coffee was lovely, I went for my usual mocha. Staff were delightful. The decor is quaint and minimal but works so well. So relaxing!! The place was popular, even for midweek. On this occasion I didn't get a donut as I was full from Breaky but if you are visiting, I recommend their baked good. The donuts are fab!! Highly recommended if you in Mt Lawley/Highgate

Yelp
Who knew fried chicken could so happily be married to maple syrup!! Mary Street Bakery take a bow. Really lovely staff. Fast service for how busy it is. Then whoever came up with salted caramel doughnuts needs a clap!! Omg awesome. Great coffee too.
google avatar

Darby D.

Yelp
Everything here is phenomenal! I've been a few times, and every time the coffee has been on point. One time I went and had the omelette with the smoked trout and goat cheese, and it was honestly one of the best omelettes I've ever had in my entire life, like ever... (I will say it was a bit pricey tho And the pastries are altogether decadent. I purchased the chocolate croissant t he last time I was there and I was blown away, it paired so well with the macchiato I got along with it. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Mary Street is one of our go-to regular local spots. The food is always on fleek, service can be hit and miss. If you sit outside, you might occasionally be forgotten about. There are so many good dishes on the menu which makes it difficult to pick a favourite. It is also very hard to leave without a salted caramel donut.

Yelp
Mary Street Bakery should be a staple on anyone's list. I mean really, their coffee is incredible, their food is great and it's always busy. I love Mary's, but you do need to be comfortable with a constant air of chaos. It's not a calm venue, but I like that. Split across four spaces (split level inside, upstairs and outside) each space is individual and feels a little different. Outside you have this wonderful feel of being separate to the rest of the venue. Inside (entry level), you have the feel and buzz of a busy cafe, but you've got heaps of room to relax and this works perfectly for bigger groups. Inside (down a couple of steps) is your quintessential cafe feel. Lots of tables, lots of people, and lots of atmosphere. Upstairs (by the counter) is my favourite spot. With only space for three(ish) people to sit, this spot overlooks the rest of the venue. I love to settle in here for a couple of hours, eat, drink coffee and write. Onto the food. I really like the food. It's a good mix of simple and creative. My staple is avocado with siracha on sourdough with a green juice and a double espresso. They do things that make me smile, like toast soldiers and boiled eggs. Their menu is pretty diverse, at the moment they've got mescal cured salmon on there, pork sniztchels, and leek and manchego omelettes. The only thing I don't like about the food is that the bacon is a little thick for my liking, but that is purely a preference thing. Their counter food is also outstanding. I'm not going to go on and and on about their doughnuts but just go and buy some. They speak for themselves. Beverages. Right. Juices. Now I am not a health freak. Sometimes I have pizza, like four times in two days, but I have fallen in love with their green juice (from The Juicest) $8 is not cheap, but it;s 250ml of pure kale heaven. Kale, Cos, Silverbeet, Apple, Celery and Lemon. GET. IN. ME. Also, their coffee is bloody good and they are fully equipped with beers, ciders and bloody mary's galore. Also, their wine list is pretty killer. Prepare yourself for a possible wait, especially on a weekend, but I promise you, it's worth it.

Yelp
After a lot of hunting around on Yelp we chose Mary street. I chose Pancakes and fried chicken interesting combo definitely works though. My partner had hard poached eggs on toast unfortunately it had to be sent back as they were still runny. That's prob only complaint I can give. The waiting stuff were very helpfully. The food was great I'll definitely be back

Yelp
Every time I go to Mary Street Bakery I have the same thing: a fluffy buttermilk pancake topped with succulent fried chicken, topped with a fried egg, drizzled with maple syrup and scattered with crushed peanuts and coriander. Sure, the venue is great for people watching, the coffee is good, and the staff are friendly and never flustered by the crowds. But I come back for the fried chicken pancake.

Yelp
One of my new favourites in Perth atm. Coffee and food has been pretty spot on both times. Located on the buzzing strip of Beauford street, it always has a great and busy atmosphere. They have amazing sweets on the counter, fresh breads and sandwiches. And then you got the kitchen menu which is just as delicious. The fired chicken and waffles was great, an interesting mix, but it works and it's nice, but too much of it can be a little too much. So good to share. Because it's tasty. Also had the salmon which was very well presented and flavoured to match. Coffee is always really nice to, and rich smooth blend. I am enjoy my macchiatos I find myself a regular here and I think if you go and it's close for you, you'll return. Also recently they have opened for dinner, I think over the weekend mainly, gets a good crowd.

Yelp
We have been wanting to try this place for so long and finally got there this week! We went for brunch and ordered the veggie eggs and fried buttermilk chicken. The food was delicious and came quickly, great flavoursome meals. My coffee was good as well. We both were very happy with our dishes and would come back!

Yelp
I've been dying to try this place ever since a coworker raved about it several months ago. Well, believe me - it's worth the hype. You could smell the place from nearly a block away on Beaufort Street - you know that delicious, fresh baked goods smell? Yep. That was gettin' all up in ma nostrils. It sure got the appetite going... Seated and coffee ordered in two minutes. Big tick. Coffee is spectacular - perfect temperature (I always order mine extra hot which can be fraught with difficulty: it's usually either not hot at all which makes me wonder if the barista ignored my request, or the milk as been scorched to buggery). Not here - the barista nailed it. Go girl. I ordered the poached autumn fruit with gluten free granola and coconut yoghurt. Simple. Delicious. My dining accomplice went for something a little unconventional: fried chicken pancakes with maple syrup and walnut. Holy balls... There are no words. Tastebud-gasm. To top off a fabulous dining experience, we also picked up a fresh loaf of organic sourdough which was STILL WARM. *enter whimsical music with floating unicorns prancing around* I'll definitely be returning - the salted caramel doughnuts made fresh in-house each day were totally giving me 'eat me' eyes.

Yelp
Fried chicken on pancake with spiced maple syrup was delicious! Chilli in the maple syrup made it a little special and different to your usual sweet maple sauce. Pancake was nice and fluffy Beetroot French toast was different but delicious and light, definate worth a try! Salted Caramel donut was so so...or maybe there was too many hype about this donut that made my friend and I over excited to try it. I didn't expect the donut to be cold and did not taste fresh. But still okay. Would have been much nicer if donut was fresh

Yelp
So this is my favourite place to eat in Perth. I am not sure what I can say that will not have already been said about this place, but here goes. As a creature of habit I return here generally once a fortnight, with my partner or as the go-to where we have breakfast with friends. On the weekends, get in early or be happy to put your name on the list and wait the 30mins it will take to get a table. There are bench seats outside and a public sitting spot with lawn across the road on Mary Street. Plenty of people chose this spot to show off their new puppies in Perth so there is no shortage of entertainment in dog watching while you wait. On the menu, you have a lot of tasty dishes to choose from, with a Mary Street twist. These guys own it. Again, a creature of habit, I tend to stick to eggs and soldiers which they do damn well. You can opt for the regular bread or gluten free if you are that way inclined. It comes served on a board with a tower of toast, side of pink sea salt, a cardboard egg carton with your soft boiled eggs and a dipping tomato chutney sauce. One of the cheaper things on the menu, it is an excellent choice. Add avocado as a side if you just need to eat one. Besides this, they offer ham and cheese croissants, which come out griddled from the press but SUPER crisp and tasty. The pastry is dead on. The veggie baked eggs are a beautiful combination of tastes, the coconut rice is a bit hit and miss- I have had it excellently done twice and averagely made once, so I stopped ordering it. The coffee is small but very good, if you are dining in and want a larger cup order it in a large takeaway cup. The desserts are really insane here. The donuts are better than any topped up stuffed donuts you can find elsewhere. The salted caramel is really where it's at but the lamington one and others are also damn good. The brownies and cookies are all excellent, kind of rustic and not at all over cooked or dry. If you are getting takeaway the toasted rolls are all good options. They sell Pound coffee bags, take home bread loaves and cold pressed juices as well. The service is good, the staff are all attentive and real. They are going to laugh with you and are in good spirits. They cop a beating in terms of how many patrons come through every day but handle it like pro's. Best in show.

Yelp
The MSB is uber cool and the place where all the hipsters congregate on weekends and plenty of yummy mums & dads and the nonworking types hang out on the week days. But don't let this put you off. It's actually a cool place, because it's actually a cool place, not just a trendy one. The menu is good, not try-hard with mostly just fresh classic ingredients done well and with a few tweaks. Damn good coffee and bloody Mary's for those a bit dusty or just feeling like their vitamin C could do with a dash of vodka. If you don't want to wait there's always the bakery for something warm and lish on the run. If you fancy a weekend brunch, the crowds are well handled and we've never waited more that 15mins for a table. There's no doubt the owners and staff know their stuff. Keep up the good work MSB. And I look forward to trying Mary's for dinner..

Yelp
First time for dinner and truly enjoyed the experience. We had Lasagne with mushroom burnt butter and butter curd, rocket salad with puffed rice and avocado and Fettuccine with baby clam dressed in chilli soy butter. Other than service being a bit slow we had an amazing dinner!

Yelp
Just stopped by to grab a doughnut on the way home from the city as I'd heard everyone raving about these salted caramel doughnuts! We got a cinnamon one and salted caramel one which were nice but to be honest I wasn't blown away, maybe I had read to much hype so was expecting to much from them. The had sandwiches in the counter which looked nice to, and the bread looked tasty but at $8.50 for a take away loaf of bread I thought was a bit steep! I would be back to test out breakfast as the menu and pictures look good and the decor was nice, so may amend my review after that!!
