On the Grid : Mary St Bakery

"Mary St Bakery has evolved somewhat into an institution for Perth. Their original cafe space is located in Highgate, with West Leederville being their second location. But if you are under the illusion that West Leederville is just another cafe you’re wrong, it's a baking powerhouse, with a team of professional bakers working 24/7 to produce all of their signature goods. Apart from a very short list of happily adopted products, every morsel at Mary’s is made in-house from scratch. From their butter and jam to the aromatic baked bread you will find passion and talent in every crumb and crust that passes your lips. With such an indulgent flair, you visit Mary's to immerse yourself in food, either take it home on the hips or complement your inner health freak to suit your mood." - Juicebox

Best breakfast I’ve had out in a very long time. Was busy when we arrived after saunas but atmosphere was great. Service was fast. Coffee was really good and food was even better. I had scrambled eggs, avo, bacon and chilli crunch oil.

Mary Street Bakery is a local favourite and there are many reasons why. The coffee is great, the menu is both traditional and creative, staff are awesome and it has great choices across dietary preferences. I love the boiled eggs and soldiers - but you can not go wrong!

Not going to lie this was nasty! Fried “chicken” burger contained 2 piddly 50cent size pieces of over cooked and burnt bits of chicken. The piece looks bigger as there was a large burnt flat piece attached to the side (was NOT chicken/ possibly skin?) whatever it was- definitely not what was on the menu…………… There was 3 of us who ordered the chicken burger and all 3 came out exactly the same- crunchy burnt dry tiny bit of chicken. Except one plate had less than 10 chips, one plate had about 20 and the other plate had about 50 chips, oh and one burger bun was that wet it fell apart because it was that soggy. I sent my burger back- charging $26 for that is just taking the p!$$. However the other 2 people were starving and couldn’t wait. They offered to re cook mine but if all 3 burgers come out with 2 pieces of stringy burnt overcooked chicken (totalling maybe 50gms of chicken total) then what’s the point of getting the same thing sent out again- it was obviously the kitchen was happy sending that out otherwise they wouldn’t of done it x3……… Inconsistent not great and definitely not what it used to be. No wonder not many people were there. Even the person behind the counter was abrupt and rude. I went to buy a rosewater and pistachio doughnut and was told they’ve never made them ever and I clearly was mistaken and obviously bought them elsewhere and never from there…. Don’t gaslight me please. You might not sell them now, but you actually did sell them as I would drive an hour specifically to get them for years and years. You can keep your piddly bit of whatever you scabbed up off the floor to deep fry to chuck in a burger and charge $26 for and you can keep your rude gaslighting attitude while your at it too.

Google
Mary Street Bakery, a Delightful Treat On Mary Street, where flavors meet, A bakery stands, a gem so sweet. With golden toasts and eggs so bright, Each bite a moment of pure delight. Hollandaise drapes like liquid gold, A story of brunch so warmly told. Crispy shallots, a crunch divine, Paired with avo—oh, how they shine! Fluffy bread, with seeds embraced, Each dish with love and care is laced. A poached egg soft, a yolk so runny, Mornings here are bright and sunny. So if you crave a perfect start, With coffee strong and food as art, Mary Street’s the place to be, A taste of joy in every spree.

Yelp
My children have a pupil free day today. We sent them down to the claremont Mary street bakery with $20 cash to buy them self morning tea! They came back 1/2 hr later, nearly in tears that $20 cash wasn't accepted. That is appalling! I can not fault the food, bakery or coffees, but the staff unfortunately let down the entire experience

Yelp
I came here for lunch on a Friday and was pretty pleased, though the menu is definitely more of a breakfast and brunch one with lots of egg dishes and other breakfast items. I ordered the pancakes with buttermilk fried chicken. The chicken was nice and crispy on the outside yet moist on the inside and the pancakes were amazingly dense, thick and fluffy all at the same time. The whole thing was swimming in a lot of maple syrup but in the end it was actually almost the right amount. My friends ordered a few steak sangas which looked amazing with perfectly rare and thinly cut steak. I took a pistachio donut to go, which was amazing - so very soft inside yet perfectly springy and doughy.

Yelp
Well established in Highgate for their fried chicken pancakes and luscious salted caramel donuts, Mary Street Bakery now have a second spot for your brunch needs. Located on Railway Parade, neighbouring popular eateries such as Tracks and Hylin, this café offers a similar menu to the original location. During a mid-week brunch my boyfriend and I made a trip to the new location for a morning bite. There was a good amount of seating inside, and also a few chairs available for outdoor dining. After a lengthy study of the menu, I chose the Veggie Baked Eggs ($19) while Dan went for the Salmon Pastrami ($24). The eggs were baked with tomato, ancho chilli, greens and topped with crispy chickpeas and yoghurt. If you're a fan of Spanish baked eggs and shakshouka this would be the dish for you, and the crunchy slice of toast was perfect to dip into the sauce. The cured salmon dish was a much fresher option, served with avocado puree, pickles, rye and mayo. The rye added a nice crunchy texture, and Dan was super pleased with his choice. Dan also ordered an espresso which was too acidic, maybe because it was under extracted. Apart from that the food was great and the service was quick and efficient. I need to return ASAP for those fried chicken pancakes, and I would recommend everyone to try one of their fluffy salted caramel doughies.

Yelp
Understanding that the dishes served are quite similar in all 3 Mary Street Bakery. I seem to favour this one a lot more. Even though the location is probably the most awkward one. Love the fried chicken with buttermilk pancakes! I'm usually not a big fan of sweet savoury dishes but this one seemed to have worked magics.

Yelp
I had high expectations for the Leederville branch as I love the original one on Beaufort st. Firstly I have to say I was grossed out when the waiter brought our water jug and glasses to the table, our water jug had food stuck on the inside of the bottle, not a way I'd like to start my Monday morning. We ordered the egg soldiers, the omelette and a side of avocado. My eggs came out over cooked for what a runny egg should be. I could barely dip my toast inside the egg, hence why I only ate one egg and left the other. My friend ordered the omelette, I never knew omelettes were meant to have a grainy texture to it. Overall I only enjoyed my green juice (from juicist) and the side of avocado I ordered. I won't be going back here.

Yelp
Had a bacon and egg sandwich for 16 bucks... bacon fried so hard and dry it was almost inedible. $8 orange juice in a 250ml bottle is a bit over the odds surely. Good vibe but warm water to drink, overpriced food. Croissant was good.

Yelp
We ordered 2 coffees and 2 croissants. Received the coffee, well...it took 40min to get our over cooked (too dry on top) croissants! Nope!!! This is way below average service.

Yelp
I have been waiting for this place to open since the last place, watching weekly on my way home. I went in for coffee when they first opened and they seemed a little overwhelmed. The coffee was nice but a little sweet. I don't think they use unsweetened soya milk. It does seem to be busy most mornings I pass but unfortunately they do not open before 7am.

Yelp
Baked goods are always a good idea, especially from mary st bakery! i love their takes on the different doughnut flavours - my fave the rosewater and pistachio! The only downside to this place is the noise inside the venue - it is always so loud you have to shout to hear anything anyone is saying - which at breakfast time is just too much work, and why I opt to sit outside if possible - which is a shame because the interior is so cosy and inviting otherwise!

Yelp
The highly anticipated Mary Street Bakery recently opened up in West Leederville and I couldn't wait to try it out. Working close by I think this is going to be a new hot spot for me. I loved the cool, minimal interior offering seating both inside and outside. The sweet treats and pastries are hard to pass up as they look delicious and they offer a wide variety of savoury and sweet delights. After much deliberation I opted for the salted caramel donut which was a taste sensation. The soft gooey salted caramel is the perfect balance of sweet and savoury. Combined with the delicately sugar coated dough is a heavenly delight and extremely moorish! In fact these donuts should come with a risk warning, now that I know they exist there is no going back! I also ordered a chai latte which was unfortunately very average, it just tasted like warm milk with a hint of cinnamon and lacked flavour to be honest it wasn't worth waiting so long for. But I will be back for more sweet treats and to try the lunch options.

Yelp
Such a great vibe about this place. The coffee was perfect, the food portions super generous and the staff are really tentative. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great croissants! Coffee is great too. If you love your baked goods (obviously) then give Mary Street a go!

Yelp
Food was really good! Giving 1 star because the waitress was angry. They serve coffee in extremely small cups probably only 150ml. When I mentioned this the waitress angrily told me that this is the standard size in this country. I won't be back. This business needs to be more selective in who they hire.
