We had been observing the restaurant being fitted out and decided to try it after noticing it had opened. Not sign posted at the front (except for a very subtle menu at the entrance), we were drawn in by the cellar vibes (exposed stone and coffered ceilings) with wabi sabi interior and decor. The menu didn’t hint at what was on offer except that the offering was degustation with or without wine pairing. It took a Google search to discover the chef was Masa Ikuta-san who blends Japanese and French cuisine and that the restaurant seats 35 covers. Always keen to try anything with an Asian slant, we dined on a Saturday evening. Service was the right balance between personable and efficient. We didn’t go with the wine pairing and after a substantial lunch, opted for the 6 course menu. With the sommelier’s help, we drank a Pinot noir from Cote des Beaunes which matched the dishes perfectly. Delicate dishes included an oyster with lovage oil, trout confit with beurre blanc and Bresse chicken with mussels and surprisingly tasty barnacles (careful not to consume the hard shell cap!) Dessert was in two parts which were both refreshing and comforting in equal measure. The waitstaff spoke good English and explained everything carefully, and the background music was chilled and enjoyable. All in all, a wonderful and memorable experience and we would love to return!…our only criticism is the lack of detail on the website and signboard (street front) as to what the offers are…..definitely worth a visit
