Wanted a beer and it was dinnertime. My wife said to check out what's available, and I came across Mason's Brewing Company. I made an excellent choice.
We could have waited in the quite full restaurant to sit outside on the covered deck, or right away inside. We chose to sit inside. People of all ages were in the restaurant.
With the way the restaurant is constructed, it gets quite lively and loud with the sound reverberating off the concrete floors and wide-open space. Tonight was very busy and even more so as the evening went on.
Our server did her best to keep up with her tables. She did keep her pleasantries high and didn't show any signs of negative vibes. She was constantly on the move and didn't always come to help us leaving us to wait a little long.
I started with a flight which included four beers and if it wasn't brewed at Mason's, then that choice was $1 extra. I had the Brown, Blueberry Cream, Diablo, and Hefelweisen; all Mason's. Am I allowed to say that the beers were the worst part of my meal when I'm at a Craft Brewhouse? I just did. Each were fine, and I liked the Blueberry Cream the best of the four, but none hit the spot where I said I needed to buy this again.
For starters, my wife had the Garden Salad, and I had the Ahi Tuna Salad. Both were piled high on the plates. Mine included three or four nice pieces of Ahi and had greens, ginger, and a spicy drizzle which didn't immediately kick in. They were both quite good. For mains, we both went with the pizza. I had the Best Damn Pepperoni, and she did a Build Your Own with mushrooms, caramelized onions, green bell pepper, and ground beef. I was so surprised at how great these pizzas were. One of the best I've ever had and I've had a lot being from Philadelphia. The half-sphered pepperoni, the ricotta, the little hot and sweet red peppers, just divine. The menu said the dough is made locally with some of their beer in there. It just really hit the spot. The only complaint about my wife's pizza was that she wished there was more red sauce on it. Otherwise, perfecto.
So we really liked Mason's a lot if not for their beer, but the food was awesome. Our server did her best and was very friendly. Everyone on staff seemed to be on their toes tonight.
$75 not including tip for a flight of beer, a soda (Coke products here, yea!), two pizzas, and two salads. We had a great time and felt even better supporting local businesses. Mason's is not a chain, and we were told they might open a second location soon also in Maine.
