Masseria Il Frantoio, a Design Boutique Hotel Ostuni, Italy

"Masseria Il Frantoio is an organic farm set in the countryside of Puglia, a 10-minute drive from Ostuni and the sea. It offers free parking, rustic rooms, and excellent regional cuisine. Il Frantoio is surrounded by citrus gardens and olive groves and features an original mill of the 15th century, still producing quality olive oil. Rooms are located in the main building, a bright white structure of the 19th century. Common areas and rooms are decorated with antiques, and the Masseria even has a library with more than 1500 books, and a free internet point. Parasols and sun loungers are available at a partner nearby beach. Masseria Il Frantoio’s homely restaurant offers set menus of characteristic regional specialties. Meals are served in the pretty inner courtyard." - My Boutique Hotel (en)

We can’t thank the team at Masseria Il Frantoio enough. Nico, Serena, Angela and the whole team were incredible through our wedding celebration and week long stay in September. They made all of our guests from Australia feel incredibly welcome, and the food experience from breakfast to dinner is unmatched in quality. We had the most beautiful celebration with a ceremony in the olive grove, an incredible 8 course dinner under the stars and party in the courtyard. We can’t wait to come back again with friends and family in the years ahead, it’s the most beautiful place. Thank you again!

The entire site was gorgeous! Spacious room - there was a storage room, a large bathroom, a kettle was a plus. You can choose the breakfast items and they were all delicious! The staff was especially pleasant and helpful. Would stay there again if I'm in the area. The olive oil tasting tour was a great experience. Highly recommended!!

We loved it here. Very calm locality, very quiet. The food was AMAZING. Everyone was very helpful. We visited in October but the swimming pool looked very cared for-- and wished we could have gone swimming. The location was perfect, close to Ostuni, Alberobello, Monopoli, Polignano, Bari, Brindisi, Matera.-- which was why we stayed here for 4 nights. We visited Amalberga Winery for a tasting-- don't miss that one either-- organic, sustainable young winery.

We loved our 5-night stay at this restored masseria in its own olive grove 10mins from Ostuni. The staff are really friendly and welcoming plus we had a great room in the main building on the first floor, complete with our own kitchen and living room. So comfortable and quiet at night. Breakfast is generous and it's fun to stroll around the lovely gardens. We really liked the 'welcome home' message each time we returned from a day out. The olive-oil tasting is a good experience too with the knowledgeable Lucia. All in all a very relaxing experience.

This was our first time staying at a "masseria" type of accommodation. Overall, it was a positive experience for us. The place was beautiful, everything was clean and comfortable. It was especially nice when our host told us about the history of the farm. The dinner was also very good.

Google
Lovely location, grounds and garden. Clean, staff was friendly, somewhat helpful. Decor was very interesting, not sure what they were going for. Random items all around from 1800s to the 2000s, all set about randomly throughout the main house. The dinner was decent and the dishes reflected the cuisine of the region.

Lovely place and people! The property was beautiful and we were made to feel very welcomed. The highlight for me was the olive oil tasting session! It was fun and informative. The hotel is also in a great location for exploring the area. Highly recommend!

Google
My husband and I came here for a tour and an olive oil tasting. What a unique and wonderful experience! The grounds are completely enchanting and meticulously kept, and the olive oil tasting was superb. Lucia was both passionate and highly knowledgeable; we learned a lot and tasted 4 different oils, each distinctive yet each of exceptional quality. I can't wait until this season's oil is ready for purchase! Fortunately, they ship to the US.

Yelp
We had the most amazing 4 nights here. The room, the gardens, the food were all fantastic but the staff are what make this place special - they are all exceptional!

Yelp
While the room was relatively large and comfy, it was by no means luxurious nor special in any way. It was also noisy late into the evening as it was almost directly across from the restaurant. Most disconcerting, however, was that the water coming from the bathroom sink faucet was not potable. (The masseria at least does provide free bottled water.) Another disappointment was the dinner served in the onsite restaurant. Not one dish stood out and not one was dissimilar to what one could find at a typical Pugliese restaurant. After our first night's dinner there, we opted to take our dinners in local restaurants. Staff was friendly and helpful. If my expectations were not high (based on Frantoio's website), I'd rate it 3-stars instead of two.

Yelp
There were so many great meals in Puglia that it's really hard to choose one place that was my favorite. But for overall experience, this is definitely the place! We dined on a superb tasting of local dishes paired with regional wines underneath the stars. It was the perfect way to experience the essence of Puglia. The black rice with mussels was a total savory treat! I became obsessed with finding some to bring home. And the zucchini flowers, yum! Why don't I ever see that in the grocery stores. The whole meal was a journey for the taste buds, and I savored every bite.

Yelp
Everything about our stay was nothing short of incredible. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating to ensure the best experience. The food at breakfast and also the 8 course meal were everything I could have ever hoped for. I would absolutely recommend people staying here.

Yelp
The property is absolutely beautiful. My room was wonderful, the staff was very kind and helpful. The only negative was fixed meal for dinner which was 5 to 6 courses with about five times the amount of food that I could consume. if you were vegetarian the food was much better than if you took what was automatically served. I'm not a fan of octopus and squid muscles and other heavy weights. Also dinner starts at 8:30 and I usually go to bed before that time. most nights we finish dinner between 1130 and midnight. My recommendation is to find out if you can stay here and not have to take the dinner. Breakfast is great

Yelp
We had the absolute best stay to start of our vacation in the Puglia region! Our stay was nothing short of amazing. The staff was extremely friendly, and felt like our friends by the end of our stay. The main house was comfortable and went above our expectations of feeling like home. Our favorite afternoon we had during our Italy trip was the Friday afternoon we spent at their beautiful pool drinking spritzs! Highly recommend dinner on premise as much as you can during your visit. We cannot wait to be back next May!

Yelp
This is a great Masseria. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the restaurant for dinner is outstanding! We had dinner 3 nights and each was remarkable. Well done!

Yelp
Il Frantoio is such a pleasant surprise. The minute you drive up the long driveway you think of a very rustic place in the middle of the olive trees. The entrance to the main building is welcoming and then when you cross into the grounds, it is simply charming. The staff is welcoming & courtious, the facility is clean and charming. The bedroom units are clean, welcoming and charming. The pool is spacious and the surrounding chairs and loungers make you feel relaxed. The pool bar & staff offer some great choices to keep you cool. The breakfast area is so charming but furnishings are adorable, the food is very good and authentic to the region. Their al fresco dining area is romantic while staff is very attentive and makes sure you are looked after. We are definitely planning a return when we are back in Puglia and likely be bringing along some of our closest friends to experience this charming masseria. I recommend Masseria il Frantoio to anyone looking for a charming, authentic place to stay in Puglia. Tony

Yelp
The whole package is marvelous. The setting, pool, rooms, old buildings, gardens, tour of gardens/olive oil press, friendly staff and the dining is all genuinely five star. If you are looking for a more rustic yet sophisticated Puglia experience this place has to be worth your consideration.

Yelp
Best hotel in Puglia for hospitality. The rates include all: breakfast, beaches... During the winter the place is warm and calm, from May a bot crowded but very nice. The restaurant is one of the top 10 in Puglia.

Yelp
My wife and I spent two nights and 3 days at the Masseria Il Frantoio and had a wonderful time. We are experienced Italophiles and would rate this location among the best. The accommodations, food and staff were all up to a very high standard. The site is beautifully landscaped and includes ancient olive orchards you can hike through. One thing of note: If you are a senior with some walking disability, be sure to inquire about access to your room and the bathroom. The resort has been built out of an older structure and, in some places like the bedrooms, access can be a bit challenging, e.g., small steps, narrow openings, low ceilings and archways. Otherwise, a great place to spend a few days and an excellent base for making daytime sorties to nearby hill towns.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place. The ambiance is great and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The food is good but I think they could improve the menu. There is generally no seafood option and we were not offered pasta over the three nights we were there. The main course was ground beef one night, ground veal the second night and sausage the third night. We were hoping for something a little more gourmet. But that said, the food quality was good and we enjoyed all our meals. Breakfast was very good. The best part was dining under the stars ever night.

Yelp
Great property and food just outside Ostuni. Small B&B style hotel and restaurant. Lengthy 8 course, but delicious, "farm to table" meal - amazing dessert. Nice service with explanations of each dish. Reservations a must and all seatings are at the same time (830pm in our case). Wonderful for large groups, couples, or a special celebration. Mussels with black rice were amazing!

Yelp
We very much enjoyed our 3 night stay at Il Frantoio. The highlight is the wonderful food produced on the estate and cooked and presented to perfection. The staff are great and very helpful and responsive. Initially disappointed not to be allocated a twin room in the main house we concluded that being allocated the stable accommodation was a good option for two single travellers as we effectively had our own rooms rather than the smaller twin bedded rooms in the main house. I am sure Il Frantoio will respond to my feedback that a supply of bottled water should be made available to guests outside the main house as the tap water is not drinkable and the two small bottles in the mini bar are clearly insufficient. (On our last day we discovered that guests in the main house had a fridge full of bottles water to help themselves to). That said when I mentioned it to the breakfast room staff I was given to large bottles of water but clearly it should have been available. A bit more information about guest use of the main house for those of us with rooms elsewhere on the estate as well as information about exploring the wider wonderful estate would have been nice touch. The pool looked delightful with towels supplied plus an honesty bar but we did not have a chance to use it as the weather was not warm enough. Il Frantoio is not a 'cheap' place to stay but we thought it good value for money even with a weak £. All round I would highly recommend a stay here and would happily return.
