Masseria Montelauro, Otranto, near Lecce, Italy - Explore & Book

"These gleaming white, squared-off buildings, set among acres of lawns and fruit trees, are a 19th-century farm complex that once housed 20 families. The thoughtful conversion has preserved all the building’s features: barrel-vaulted ceilings, thick walls, cool interiors. The only new addition is an elegant, cream-stone infinity pool. Surrounding the the grassy courtyards are 29 tranquil rooms, the best with their own access to the gardens. Décor is all white, with Moroccan silver kettles and huge trays in the reception, and snow-white Pugliese embroidery in the rooms. The effect is sophisticated, light and wonderfully soothing. Cactus, olive trees, vines and date palms dot the grounds, surrounded by rural farmland. In the vaulted dining room, delicious local produce is served for lunch and dinner. If the peace gets too much, you’re 3.5km from Otranto, one of Puglia’s most popular coastal towns, with cobbled lanes, boutiques, bars and a yacht-bobbing marina; kids will love the castle and sandy beach nearby. Highs Serene setting in ancient farmland and a resident donkey The large gardens and swimming pool are immaculate – verdant lawns dotted with fruit and olive trees for shade Grown-up dazzling white décor with beautiful Moroccan and Pugliese details Great food made from local produce - the breakfasts are a treat A 10-minute drive from lovely Otranto and some superb coastline Lows It’s a quiet, subdued kind of place - not for those seeking somewhere lively In August, however, the pool can get very busy The Salentine peninsula - the tip of Italy’s heel - gets scorched in summer, and lacks the rich hinterland of northern Puglia WiFi is limited to certain communal areas and very unreliable, but you're here to switch off" - Abigail Blasi

Masseria Montelauro was the perfect base for exploring the region around Otranto. The landscape and gardens are impeccably cared for and there were plenty of spaces to relax in the shade among the olive trees in the courtyard and near the pool. The rooms were well appointed and very comfortable with linen bedding, spacious bathrooms and AC. The generous breakfast was thoughtfully prepared and had a variety of fresh fruit, cheeses, cured meats, pastries, yogurt and more to set us up for our day. The ladies who welcomed us for breakfast each morning were very attentive and kind and remembered our preferences when it came to coffee orders and dietary restrictions. The staff at the front desk were incredibly helpful throughout our stay and coordinated spa treatments with Luigi who is a very skilled practitioner and trained in Ayurveda. They shared a booklet upon check in with their personal recommendations in the area which was very helpful despite the planning we did in advance.

Such a lovely place. Really calm atmosphere, simple decor, and a nice pool surrounded by shady trees. Delicious local food, and it's lovely to eat under the vines. We also appreciated the advice they gave us about places to eat locally, and the fact that they made reservations for us. It's very near Otranto which is a nice small town with great restaurants and bars.

We stayed here for the first time this year (2025). The masseria is close to Otranto so very easy to go to the town and we really enjoyed our stay there. Our room was beautiful - a high arched brick ceiling, a very large bed, good screening for dressing and clothes storage, comfortable seating etc. The grounds were very well cared for and the pool area was great. The restaurant offered a good breakfast and we had two excellent evening meals there. Highly recommended.

Masseria Montelauro deserves a "Golden Buzzer". 5 stars is not enough, the place is beautiful, every detail is carefully taken care of. Staff is warm, charming, welcoming and tremendously attentive. The restaurant is very good, food was very tasty and well prepared. I would stay here again and recommend it deeply.

A Masseria is perfect! My days there were wonderful. The place has a magical atmosphere. Truly, it is a special place. The decoration is beautiful, the restaurant's food is amazing, the plants are very well taken care of... everything is impeccable. If you can, spend a few days in this space.

A lovely place for relaxation, with easy access to Otranto by car in 5 mins (€15 taxi) or 40 mins walking (down a fairly busy road; 50 mins by quieter route) The pool is a good size with plenty of sun beds. The owners & staff were all really friendly. The room (standard) was small but well-kept, the shower had strong pressure, and overall the room was fine for what we needed. My only criticism is that the AC didn’t get as cold as it should. Breakfast is a great spread of pastries, freshly baked cakes, yoghurt, fruits, nuts & seeds, breads, cheeses and a couple of cured meats. Coffee (Americano) absolutely delicious! They put complimentary nibbles out every early evening which is a nice touch. We ate in the restaurant one evening. The pastas were excellent. Good place to come to chill with the option of heading into a nice town.

Great stay- beautiful property and peaceful, with pool and common area lined by fig and blackberry trees. We had dinner on site 2/3 nights and the food was amazing, with great local, natural wines featured on the wine list. My husband and I agreed that the tuna (cooked in a peppercorn sauce) was the best tuna we had ever had. The service was also outstanding. Would recommend to anyone and hopefully will return sometime in the future!

Heaven. Everything about the hotel is a wonder. The owners know exactly what they are doing. Everyone in their team without exception is delightful ~ nothing was too much trouble no-matter who we asked in their team. The hotel itself is stunning. The restaurant is outstanding. They took care of me, my wife and 4 month old son brilliantly. We truly found a gem and we absolutely return another time
