Masseria Prosperi, Near Otranto, Puglia, Italy - Explore & Book

"Mercedes, Antonio and their daughters lived here until they moved next door, flattened the farmhouse, and rebuilt it from scratch to create this wonderful 8-bedroom villa. Owners of lovely Masseria Montelauro, they took its chic white aesthetic and embellished it with 2 swimming pools (indoor heated with a steam room, and outdoor unheated with a large sun terrace) plus a custom-built subterranean kitchen from which fabulous Pugliese fare appears morning, noon and night. There's a communal living/dining room on the ground floor with white sofas and star ceiling lights, wraparound terraces and balconies, and an outside sitting room which converts to a conservatory in winter months. Interiors are beautifully realised, with simply dressed beds, whimsical headboards, antique sideboards and equine-themed art. Talking of horses, Mercedes has her own, plus there are ponies, donkeys, chickens and goats - a big draw for families.Puglia's Salentine Peninsula has been likened to Cornwall for its rugged cliffs, miles of beaches and long coastline, but remains blissfully under-visited. We loved exploring the region's characterful historic towns and sampling its excellent local cuisine, returning home to relax at heavenly Prosperi. Highs A super purpose-built country house, with no expense spared in its design and execution. There are comfortable, spacious bedrooms and classy bathroomsDelicious and never-ending food; Antonio is an excellent cookWhether you book one room or the whole house, breakfast is included in the ratesTwo swimming pools, lovely lawns, animals and paddocksFriendly owners who make you feel like part of the family from the moment you arrive Lows Not for those who don't like communal dining, although couples can eat separately on a balcony or in the conservatory/summer roomDinner is a set menu, although you're asked what you would likeThe extras can add upThis is very much a family-run operation with kids and dogs romping around, so if you prefer the anonymity of a hotel, book elsewhereSouthern Puglia with its pine forests is less pastoral and flatter than further north. It can get very hot in summer and is windy at times" - Nadine Mellor

Masseria Prosperi is one of the places you don’t want to share, and gate keep for yourself. It’s a truly immersive Puglian experience. Anto and Mercedes are such great hosts. The ultimate touch are the animals roaming around. A serene space that lives behind its expectations.

A truly magical place! We loved the animals, the people, the beautiful outlook, and the delicious home cooking. We felt relaxed the moment we arrived and didn’t want to leave. We can’t wait to return and cannot recommend highly enough!

This Masseria will not work for everyone. And that is a good thing. Only those who value authenticity will come…hopefully. |There are only a handful of rooms available, each unique and decorated in the Salento minimalist and quirky style. |The whole operation is under one roof. Small indoor communal area with a working fireplace and 2 bedrooms giving onto the breakfast/bar prep kitchen. Upstairs, a couple of more private rooms. A small indoor pool. Enclosed terrace. And animals! Donkeys, horses, dog and cats. All roaming everywhere. The chef and proprietress live next door and interact deftly with their guests. The breakfast is full of fresh fruit and homemade breads and cakes. Dinner is simple with vegetables and both crudo and grilled fish. ||Mercedes kindly walked us through each of our day’s itinerary. ||This is the real deal on all levels.

The level of luxury and service at Masseria Prosperi exceeded all of our expectations. The attention to detail throughout the resort was very evident during our stay and the rooms were beyond beautiful. We loved all the animals, it made the vibe so incredibly unique to anywhere else we've stayed in the past. It was 10 minutes from our favorite beach in Puglia, Lido Castellana, which made the location perfect. We still dream about the dinners. This place is perfect, we will definitely be back.

Our stay at Masseria Prosperi was nothing short of spectacular. The hospitality was unparalleled (much better than the five star hotels we stayed at much of our trip through Italy). In addition, this unique farm stay will stand out as an experience in itself. You can lounge by the pool and watch horses, donkeys, dogs and cats graze on the surrounding open landscape while enjoying an aperitivo. The dinner we had at the hotel was one of the best of our journey. The masseria is located in close proximity to the best beaches in the area. If you are looking to unwind and connect, this is the place for you!

I spent three days last week together with my husband and 2 sons. And I left with the feeling of having stayed in a very close and familiar place, as if the owners were friends. This is one of those places where you would like to get lost... Mercedes and Antonio, the owners, are real hosts, engaging with you as if you were a friend, they were extremely helpful, and always willing to please, Antonio even took his bike to show us the way to the beautiful bike excursion to St Andrea by the coast. ||The breakfast was the best I have ever had in a hotel, really amazing. Not to mention the dinner that Antonio prepared only for the 4 of us in the evening. The staff, Anna and Ahmed, were also charming and attentionate, always present and willing to help. ||The kids loved the swimming pool, and so did we. ||Everything is really charming, not to mention the beautiful landscape with all the animals which are as in paradise there... The masseria is very well placed, close to Otranto (so beautiful city) and to an amazing coast.||We really hope to be able to go back. We loved this place. Congratulations for Antonio and Mercedes, they really built an amazing place...

We had a wonderful stay in the masseria. The place is very clean and the staff is wonderful. Especially Anna and Naffi are such warm and welcoming people. Together with the owners they make you feel at home straight away. It has the comfort and luxury of a hotel, but the warmth of a family farm stay. Food and drinks are a bit pricey, but absolutely worth trying. Especially the food is amazing. Fresh, made with love and so tasteful. There are a few notes though… the check in could be more structured. They don’t tell you anything about breakfast times or how to reserve lunch etc. So maybe it’s useful to have a handout in the room with prices of lunch, dinner and the drinks at the bar, wifi code etc. The other thing is that there were no mosquito nets in the windows. So our 10-month old son was bitten by mosquitoes every night and was totally covered with red spots. For a room in this price range you would expect at least something to keep the mosquitoes out. But that being said; it definitely was a great stay and we’ll definitely come back!
