The 5 Best Hostels in Mexico City (Updated 2025)

"Located in the penthouse on the 4th floor of a beautiful historic building (there’s no elevator), I love Massiosare El Hostel for its laid-back rooftop with incredible views and the ease of meeting other travelers there. It offers both private rooms and dorms — including female-only dorms and some dorms with en-suite bathrooms — though dorm beds are basic metal bunks without privacy curtains; the rooms are clean and cozy. I liked that there are two kitchens (one vegetarian, one for meat eaters) and a free breakfast every morning, but be aware that sounds carry in the old building so bring earplugs." - Matthew Kepnes

One of the best hostels I've been to, not just in Mexico. Great price, great location and great people. Perfect to spend a few days recharging your batteries, but also in a great location if you wanna dive straight into the city. Very welcoming staff, always ready to help and with great recommendations (especially when it comes to food).

I really enjoyed my stay at Massiosare hostel! It’s a really great location, with awe inspiring, panoramic views of the surrounding cityscape and mountains from atop the rooftop terrace. Plus, the hostel is very comfortable and clean, and the staff are really helpful and friendly. One of them even dedicated about half an hour of her time to helping me sort out this problem by receiving a call for me in Spanish (a language which I can’t speak). Overall, I really positive experience.

Great location, friendly service, and yummy free breakfast! The location was great and the price was very affordable (my partner and I got one of their private rooms). The whole place was very clean and well taken care of. The stairs are a lot so just be prepared lol…. but overall definitely worth it and I would absolutely recommend staying here!

The hostel is clean, the staff really nice and the location central. The breakfast varies every day and the Lucha libre event was really fun! The only thing that was kind of annoying is that there are no handles whatsoever to grab or hold on when you on/off climb the bed.

Loved our stay! Not far from the historic centre and close to a lot of markets. Oscar was a big help with local food stops and tour suggestions! Loved the lucha libre night. We stayed in a private room that also had a seperate private bathroom and it was perfect for what we needed. The breakfast is also a bonus!

People working at the front desk were super helpful and nice. Loved the rooftop seating area and clean kitchen and common area. Nothing fancy, but for the price 100% worth it

Great location and staff, cozy atmosphere in the hostel itself. Oscar and David were really kind and helped us with a number of recommendations for the city. Lucha libre was super fun activity to do with the people from hostel!

Really nice place with a great terrace and lovely people. Everything’s clean and there is a different breakfast everyday. We had an awesome time at the lucha libre. Thanks!!
