I came here to celebrate my birthday with my family. I made reservations and arrived early. We used the valet parking here. Our server was Raymond and he was amazing with the recommendations along with the customer service. I got the bone in filet, my wife and mom got the Chilean Sea Bass and my mother in law got the salmon. For our sides we got the French fries, mushrooms, asparagus and Mac and cheese. All of our dish were delicious and made to perfection. They got me a chocolate cake slice which was also amazing.

Went on my birthday and the menu was printed just for my birthday greetings, which I forgot to take. I go especially to have the Lobster Bisque, it’s so…. Good! The drawback is after the bisque and the bread, a top shelf margarita and a glass of wine I couldn’t even think about eating my entree! Then they served the delicious cake with a huge bowl of whipped cream. These people know how to run a restaurant!

A couple of days before Christmas Eve, we made reservations for a party of 12, planning to have two separate tables. However, an hour before our dinner, they called us to offer the option of a long table for our group. We truly appreciated this gesture. So we accepted it. Our server, Raymond, was amazing, and the entire team at Mastros was exceptional. The food was excellent; I highly recommend sharing the large steaks, such as the porterhouse or the bone-in ribeye. The seasonal pecan butter cake was the best butter cake I’ve ever tasted—I wish they would have it on their menu all year round! Bryan, the manager, checked on our table to ensure that we were well taken care of, and we had a nice conversation with him. Overall, our experience at Mastros in Thousand Oaks was fantastic, and I highly recommend it.

Incredible experience at Mastros! We attended a comedy show across the street at the Civic Arts Plaza and had reservations before-hand for dinner at Mastros. Atmosphere is amazing - very modern, high-end vibe, dark moody lighting, elevated finishes. Service was impeccable; even though they were quite busy, we felt super special as if we were the only ones dining that night. The food was amazing, super tasty and great presentation; especially the shrimp cocktail! Divine. Cocktails were equally tasty and top shelf. We can't wait to come back!! Update 08/15/25 - brought our oldest son and his wife for their first anniversary and Mastro's did it again! From a special menu that was printed out and given to them as a gift to a beautiful dessert at the end - and everything in between... Service was amazing, everything tasted wonderful. Thank you!

Service was great !!!!! Everyone very attentive and fun !! Our sea food tower was amazing !! I love the lemon and tiny Tabasco Sause !! Drinks were amazing ! So delicious !! Dessert was off the hook ! Macaroni with jalapeño was off the hook. my steak was very bland , it had no flavor nothing . I ordered medium rare .. I don't think I'll order steak here anymore . place is usually super loud you cannot hear your self talk .. tables are so close together ! I really like this spot but it's just always so crowded !!! Thank you to the amazing staff !!

Brittney was our Host’s name and first and foremost provided the best service I have ever received in my life. Everything was catered to from the openings between the curtains and glass pane for noise reduction for our party to bottled/distilled/sparkly water selection and so much more. Truly 6 out of 5 star service. I have never been to such an amazing establishment. If I am being perfectly honest, I felt a bit out of place and was a bit nervous. But once Brittney arrived she was able to out my heart at ease and made all of our selections such a journey. She was knowledgeable and well versed in all things included on the menu and even offered insight into the behind the sevens for the restaurant and the live music. All in all I put my faith and trust in her steak(medium well Porter House PERFECTION with decadent marbling) and side suggestions and my family was better off for it. There were 11 of us and even though we were at a 5 star restaurant to say the least, it felt more like a down to earth intimate event and everything from the ambience to the drink suggestion pairings truly made it a night to remember. I have never truly enjoyed myself at a restaurant as much as I did on 3/30/2024 at 6pm-9pm. From the bottom Thank the restaurant and the staff(ESPECIALLY BRITTNEY!) for the unforgettable and intimate evening out with my family. Can’t wait to come back again for our semi-annual family dinner in October!

A perfect evening celebrating an 18th birthday. Party of 8. The food was phenomenal. Highly recommend the Chilean Sea Bass, the strip steak (blackened), and yes - the butter cake lives up to the hype! Special shoutout to Felipé who provided impeccable and personable service.

Yelp
I had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday dinner here with my wife, daughter, mother and mother in law. I made reservations off OpenTable which was easy. We chose the valet parking because we had our baby daughter with us and it wasn't too much. We arrived early and got seated quick so it wasn't an issue. Our server was Raymond and he was amazing with the customer service. There no complimentary bread here so just be aware and no free refills on the soda. The men's bathroom also have a baby changing station which is important to me now since I'm a new dad. I got the 12oz bone in filet at medium rare since Raymond said it will have more flavor. My wife and mom got the Chilean Sea Bass. My wife mom got the Norwegian Cold Water Salmon. Raymond said the steak plate will be hot since the steak will be cooked at 400 degree so it will continue to cook on the plate. We loved all our dish, my filet steak was amazing and flavorful like Raymond said. Our sides were the fries, Mac and cheese, sauteed asparagus and rosemary garlic wild mushrooms. They will serve you the side so I thought that was great. The birthday chocolate cake was delicious, very heavy chocolate.

Yelp
My friend and I gave this place three chances, THREE! Every time we walked out disappointed. We give this place two stars because we can not complain about the service. The oysters the first two times were DRY and shucked poorly. The third time they had no selecting of oysters. They weren't horrible the third time, thankfully, they were just average. The mac & cheese lobster & the lobster bisque is complete ass extremely bland and watery. I am almost certain they put the lobster bisque into the mac & cheese and call it lobster mac & cheese only cheese at the top and water soggy noodles at the bottom with old lobster MY FAVORITE We asked if they could take back the mac & cheese and if we can swap it for the lobster mashed potatoes. Lobster mashed potatoes was good but only because it was drenched in butter and topped with some more old lobster meat. Then they tried changing us for both I'm honestly not sure what the people on the back are doing but I am 100% convinced that they don't have tastebuds there is no way that this establishment is allowing their staff to serve tasteless

Yelp
This past Saturday I went to Mastro's for a birthday dinner with a group of 13. It was a busy night, but our server was very attentive, friendly, and handled our large table well. Our drinks did take a while to come out, but he apologized and let us know the bar was backed up, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, there were multiple mix-ups with our orders throughout the night. My fiancé and I ordered a porterhouse steak, but it was accidentally given to other guests in our party, and we were served their tomahawk steak instead. In all honesty, we didn't realize the mistake at first because we've never ordered a porterhouse before and weren't familiar with how it was supposed to look. By the time it was noticed, both steaks were already halfway eaten. On top of that, they also gave one guest's steak to another guest and had to come back to move plates around to the correct person. Another guest ordered fish but was served a steak instead, and the plates had to be switched again. It felt a bit chaotic and confusing, especially for a restaurant of this caliber. There were also issues with our appetizers. We ordered two hamachi crudos and one tuna tartare, but only two appetizers were brought out instead of three. We had to ask for the second hamachi crudo, and in the end, they took the tuna tartare away altogether. We spoke with our server, who was apologetic and attentive and immediately acknowledged the mistakes. He said he would see what could be done and went to speak with his manager. Our guests were informed they would be getting a new tomahawk steak, but nothing was communicated to us regarding our steak, which was very unfortunate. After that, the manager kept glancing over at our table but never approached us again to follow up, which felt awkward. Aside from the service issues, the ambiance was great and the music was good, which made the atmosphere enjoyable overall. While our server was kind and tried his best, the repeated order mix-ups and lack of clear communication afterward took away from what was meant to be a special birthday dinner experience.

Yelp
Excellent Service that I appreciate very much. It's clear the team understands that at the prices they charge, their clients are buying a luxury experience.... Well done. But... the food! Oy, the food! Over seasoned, bathed in butter hiding inferior quality meat. I can't understand why else they'd completely over season every main dish. Three from our party ordered the bone in filet...all of us did so because our server, Wesley said it's the signature steak and Mastro's best, complained about how salty it was prepared. Two of us experienced being ill later that night, presumably from the amount of butter drenched in the meat during cooking. Fish was ordered and drenched with a buttery salty sauce which made the seafood unrecognizable. The bread basket and desserts were all excellent and again, I want to compliment the excellent service team. (Including the runners and bussing staff).

Yelp
We arrived a couple of minutes early, for our reservation. Valet service was friendly and fast. Once inside we checked in and were seated fairly quickly. There was a larger party ahead of us so they were seated and we were immediately seated. Our server was personable and friendly. Bread basket arrived and water was poured. They have a large cocktail menu and wine list. We started with the caviar and calamari. The caviar was served with toast squares and these little pancakes. 2 of us liked the pancake better and the other 2 were team toast. Small diced egg, red onion, maybe parsley and a crème fresh were served on the side. The caviar was really good. The calamari was cooked perfectly, had a nice crunch and the sweet sour sauce paired nicely. Entrees arrived, I ordered the dry aged bone in ribeye. The meat was cooked perfectly. The rest of the family had filet mignon in varying sizes and doneness. Everyone was happy with their choice. My son added the bone marrow butter to his steak. He made the right choice, it added a whole other layer of flavor to the steak. Our side were tallow fries and Brussel sprouts. The fries were crunchy and salted properly. The Brussel sprouts were charred to perfection. We finished up our meal with a butter cake. The cake was good and a perfect ending to a great meal. We head out to valet to retrieve our car. It's busy, people trying to leave, people trying to head in to the restaurant but valet service did an incredible job. Our car was brought out very quickly and we were on our way home.

Yelp
I gave my daughter a gift certificate Mastro's. She went for a special dinner with a friend. They went to Mastro's in Thousand Oaks California. She said the meal was delicious, wagu butter changed her life, and lobster mashed potatoes were amazing. She found the service great and they loved the restaurant's atmosphere. Thanks so much for giving them a memorable evening.

Yelp
Wow! First of all let me start with how incredible the service is here! From valet to seating, to our server and the helpers-all so professional and friendly. Eric was our waiter and he was so nice, gave great suggestions, very knowledgeable and attentive throughout our meal. Our drinks were amazing! My husband loved his Manhattan and my lemon drop martini was so yummy and entertaining haha! They put dry ice at the bottom of the glass so it boiled with bubbles until the drink was gone! Unfortunately, they don't put very much alcohol in this drink. I couldn't taste the vodka and...Normally when I drink lemon drops, I feel a little tipsy. Did not feel the effects of this drink at all. Still so yummy! We ordered the bread (they charge $5-worth it) and Dungeness crab cocktail and oysters and oh my! Absolutely delish!! We could've just ate this for dinner! We shared Caesar salad, also wonderful! We actually wished we would've stuck with the appetizers because the main course was truly a disappointment. My 6oz petite filet mignon was tough! Literally struggled to cut it and chewing was difficult. I had to send it back. Our waiter was very nice about it and the replacement was perfect! Tender like butter! As it should be! Why wasn't that served to me in the first place? My husband ordered the Australian Wagyu Tomahawk steak chop what a disappointment! Perfectly cooked yet it was a bit tough and very salty and we are pretty sure it was the special $16 butter he opted for on top of his steak. For a $195 piece of meat? And Australian Wagyu? It should not have been the slightest bit tough. He did not send it back but mentioned it to our server who surprisingly didn't suggest a replacement. Also, we ordered a side to share-The lobster mashed potatoes and that was so disappointing! EXTREMELY SALTY! We ate a few bites, hoping it would get better but unfortunately it was just awful! There were some little chunks of lobster mixed in and a lot of claw meat on top-The claw meat was so tough I had to spit it into my napkin. The claw meat was also very fishy and extremely salty. Again our server was very kind about it and took it away without charge. This was our first time dining here and honestly? I don't think we're coming back. We've had much better experiences at numerous other high end steak houses who offer similar menu items with similar pricing. This was a very expensive dinner that did not offer an excellent dining experience. I might recommend them specifically for the Dungeness crab appetizer and the oysters but if you're craving a fantastic steak dinner? You might want to elsewhere...

Yelp
If you are looking for a place to celebrate , then Mastro's is always a good place to celebrate! As for food, you get what you would expect for a steakhouse restaurant. And the ambiance is typical of steakhouses! To start out, let's talk about ambiance. This is not the kind of restaurant you go for a quiet romantic dinner. The ambiance is graced with dimly lit lights, but that's where that romantic vibe stops. Like most steakhouses, the dining area is riddled with tables that are close by each other. My chair was hit several times between the staff and the guest behind me- that's how close the tables are. Also you will have large parties of guest mixed within tables for two. The night that we visited there was a double birthday celebration for young kids who were banging on glassware with knifes and talking loudly. Plus you can hear all the conversations of guest tables around you. If you do seek a private space, the restaurant does have private rooms. For seating, the bar has plenty of high top tables. Tables are closest to the live music when offered. Plus there are to dinning spaces with low top tables for small and large parties. The restaurant also features private dinning spaces. As for service- it was ok. When you are paying significant money, you expect service to be more than ok. Simple gestures were missed, for example after delivering food to one's table, you should check to see if food was prepared properly. A check should not be provided until you request it- as one may want more. And when check is provided, you should say thank you for dining with us. Very simple gestures go a long way- plus we had several waiters throughout our meal rather than one that made sure our experience was well received. On the plus side, the host at the front desk was lovely! For food, as you would expect for Mastro's was mostly on par. We started out with the cocktail shrimp- the shrimp were good but you only get four shrimps for 30 dollars. For dinner we had the tuna and filet. The tuna was amazing- perfectly cooked and properly prepared. The filet was cooked properly as well. For sides, we ordered the scallop potatoes and asparagus. The scallop potatoes were really good and rich. The asparagus was just ok, they should of been cut a bit further up on the stalk. And to celebrate they provided us a lovely dessert and fresh whip cream! A nice touch! As for drinks- My lemon drop martini was a miss- I asked for it tart and was overly sweet and not tart- this seems like a staple drink for a steak house! The second time they made it, it was slightly better but still off. For 20 dollars or so the drink should be spot on! Especially a classic drink! With that said, the presentation of the drink was amazing- nice sugar rim with a bubbly affect! Bonus: as a bonus the night we visited, Friday night, there was live music- in the piano bar there was a pianist. Not sure of the schedule for live music. As for parking- you can valet for a nominal amount. Or you can park on the street. With the theater across the street is not in session, there is tons of street parking. Lastly, there is a dress code- but it does not seem like it is followed well- people were coming in track pants- but perhaps that is the new business causal these days. Overall, we had a good experience- just wish the service was as good as the food quality for the price

Yelp
Mastro's has an old steakhouse vibe with a modern twist. I came last night for the first time for a family member's birthday dinner. The only regret I had was that I had not come here before! The service was exceptional and attentive. It was so difficult to not eat all the bread they bring out at the beginning! We had the tuna tartare for an appetizer and it was so unique as it had crushed chips underneath. It took out the mess that usually comes with tuna tartare. We also shared the crab cakes which were great. For dinner I got the petite filet and we shared mashed potatoes, asparagus, and Mac and cheese. I was not the biggest fan of the Mac and cheese but the mashed potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. For dessert, we split the key lime pie and butter cake. You cannot go wrong with dessert here. I almost forgot, the drinks were delicious! I love how they give you the shaker with what is left over! I cannot wait for my next visit. Mastro's is a perfect spot for specials occasions of all kinds.

Yelp
Outstanding Experience at Mastro's Steakhouse Thousand Oaks We had a fantastic experience at Mastro's Thousand Oaks. The service was excellent from start to finish. Our server, Wesley, was attentive, professional, and made sure everything at the table was perfect. What truly stood out, though, was the host Landon. He was running circles around the front desk confidently, organized, and clearly in control. While others struggled at times, Landon stayed sharp, welcoming, and kept everything moving smoothly. I was so impressed that I introduced myself and asked his name personally. Honestly, the front of house experience would fall apart without someone like Landon greeting guests and helping guide the rest of the host team. Huge credit to management for recognizing talent and hiring someone like Landon who sets such a high standard. A+ experience all around we'll definitely be back. Wesley and Landon made our night out a great evening.

Yelp
It's been a few years so I just wanted to come back to give an updated review for one of my favorite restaurants, Mastros. Mastros continues to be an absolute home run. The vibes are sophisticated and romantic, while fun and lively, especially if you sit at the bar. From start to finish it's a well thought out experience and meal. I always make a reservation in advance and it's seamless. The valet makes pulling up and getting out easy peasy. With a reservation we only waited a couple of minutes and then were seated. This time we sat at the bar high top for a more lively vibe. If you want something a little quieter and more romantic then opt for a dining area table. The bar was perfect for a girls night as the piano was playing and it was dimly lit. Our server this time was Lana and she was such a doll. Super sweet and caring throughout our meal. She was attentive and gave great recommendations. The service is always top notch, drinks were always refilled and our table cleaned off almost immediately from being finished. The staff do a wonderful job here, it's definitely a team effort. Cocktails are amazing here. Always ice cold and presentation is elegant. I love that the martinis come with a shaker, so you essentially are getting a double. The cocktails are unique but they also do the classics right. Food is worth the hype! I don't care what the naysayers have to say about it lol. I love their appetizers and mains. For apps I highly recommend creating your own seafood tower! The oyster are always fresh and I love their shrimp cocktail. For mains it's easily any of their steaks for me. I personally love their ribeye. Always cooked perfect. For the sides I beg anyone who will listen to get the lobster mashed potatoes because they are so creamy and buttery with huge chunks of lobster. It's a great compliment to any of their steaks and still gives you that little hint of seafood flavor with your meal. Food, ambiance, and service is a 5/5 still in my books. Perfect for a dinner date or celebration, I truly love Mastros.

Yelp
Incredible food, attentive and very kind staff, & that darker interior ambiance that just makes your experience always feel a little special regardless of why you're there. I came in here with a friend the other day essentially for an expensive snack as we liked to joke. We both got cocktails and I wish I could remember what mine was called because it was incredible. It had tiki in the name and was so fresh. We got their bread basket, the lobster Mac and cheese, and finished off with their butter cake. Everything was perfect, we never went without as our server and other staff were always present. Make sure to make a reservation even if you're just going for drinks, and if you're there on the weekends I believe they usually have live piano playing which was so nice.

Mark W.

Yelp
Really nice cocktails and service. As far as food, it's hit & miss. I feel that a restaurant (or any biz) that asks for premium pricing has an obligation to provide premium product. I hosted a party of 8, and most were satisfied with entrees. My steak was tough and undercooked. Chef's response was "it should have been cooked more." Most sides and desserts were tasty. Check was ~$1600 with tip. Not returning.

Yelp
OVER RATED! I have been there numerous times! I love to sit in the bar for apps and drinks. Dinner is not worth it!

Yelp
I absolutely love this place our waitress was wonderful and very knowledgeable. The stake was cooked perfectly and the lamb chops were beyond delicious. I highly recommend both dishes in conjunction with the lobster-infused smashed potatoes and the garlic-sautéed asparagus. The establishment exemplifies cleanliness and elegance, contributing to a refined dining experience. This is a good place to go on a date but I can honestly this establishment epitomizes both cleanliness and elegance, thereby enhancing the sophistication of the dining experience. The Chateau Ste. Michelle is my favorite wine and I highly recommend and the mojito as well.

Crameri L.

Yelp
We visited this restaurant on New Year's Day. The service was decent, but we felt rushed. The server came to check if we wanted to fire the food, which would take 15 minutes. We politely declined, but only two minutes after the food arrived, we hadn't even finished the appetizer. The tuna tartare was bland and lacked salt and seasoning. The gnocchi with truffle and crab was heavy and lacked flavor. The filet mignon was dry and bland overall, and I wouldn't recommend it.

Yelp
This place has always been my go to for dinner. They make the most amazing food and drinks and they are a place you have to go to for any special occasion, or even just a night out. The staff make for an excellent well oiled machine and their whole process works amazingly. Their drink choices include nice high cost wines and make for an amazing pair with their steaks and seafood.

Yelp
I always have a great time when dining here. To start, I usually get Mastro's Lemon Drop served over dry ice (not pictured). It's my go-to drink here, and a must try! For food, I had the Dungeness Crab cocktail, which is served with a side of atomic horseradish sauce and cocktail sauce. The seafood is fresh, and they give you a fair portion of meat - it is absolutely incredible. Their French Onion Soup is simply the best. The deep broth paired with the melted Gruyère cheese is unbeatable. I also tried their Wagyu Sashimi special served over wasabi mashed potatoes. This was delicious, very filling, and I highly recommend it. I ended the night with their 8oz filet (not pictured), which was cooked to perfection (as always). The exceptional service at Mastro's is a key reason why I keep coming back! Erin is one of the best servers in town. She makes every visit feel like catching up with friends or family. Shout out to Enrique and Melissa as well. Both are excellent servers, and I highly recommend you sit with them if you get the chance. The ambiance is upscale and classy, great for dressing up for a night out or date night. One suggestion I have for this place is to invest in professional singers for their live performances. Some nights, it sounds like a karaoke dive bar, which somewhat diminishes the atmosphere. Other than that, this restaurant is absolute staple in Thousand Oaks, and I always look forward to my next visit!!

Yelp
We came in on a friday night and with reservations. The staff greeted us and we were seated fairly quickly. The place is dim, very loud and lively. We enjoyed the live music they had. Our server was friendly but service was a little slower than expected. Food presentation was nice however, I did find it a little odd that the first food item placed on our table was an entree (the chilean sea bass). All the appetizers were brought out shortly after that. We ordered; -shrimp cocktail-delish but no cocktail sauce or horseradish. Had some accent seaweed pieces around it. -various sushi, yellowtail, wagyu roll, tuna-I was very impressed with the quality and flavors! -chilean sea bass-a little bit dry -steaks- all very good -caviar (imperial)- so good. Overall, this is a great place for a fun night out with a group of friends, it's loud, so hard to have intimate date night convos over dinner. I like people watching so this was a good choice on a friday night.

Yelp
Been coming to this specific Mastros for years and it's always a great time. Was just there on Christmas day and once again awesome service and the food was delicious my steak came out perfect. Definitely recommend this Masteos in TO. Also they brought back the Pecan Butter Cake! Best thing on the face of this planet it was freaking delicious!!

Yelp
First time at Mastro's, I have been to other upscale steakhouses so I have something to make a comparison. We celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary, so I was pleased to see a personalized menu, which was a nice touch. The service was a bit slow, for what look like a fully staffed restaurant. Our server was pleasant, however, brought the wrong side order, hardly checked on us and at the end rang up someone else's bill on my debit card. Now to the food...I had the bone in ribeye, which was over cooked for medium and had absolutely no taste, a little salt and pepper would have helped. My wife's petite filet was not tender at all. The lobster mashed was just ok..nothing impressive. - overall, very disappointed.
google avatar

Dani R.

Yelp
Our server was lovely, I'll start with that. She was very sweet. This was a dinner out for our 20th anniversary, the last time we came was 10 years ago. Unfortunately, it was such a bummer, food was terrible, steaks over cooked, salads no flavor, scalloped potatoes tasteless. This was such an upsetting experience since we don't eat out much. The server never asked if we were celebrating anything, so it just was all disappointing. They took my steak off, but we boxed up so much food to just take home to the dogs. $200 down the drain. Very disappointing! My theory that these steakhouses are just over priced meat, really served me right in this case, sadly.

Yelp
When it is Christmas Eve and the place is sold out (including added tables in the bar) and the team knocks it out of the park? That's amazing. We arrived in advance of our reservation and we were seated right on schedule. Our server was Brittanie and we watched her work without pause ALL of her tables and she really deserves a special thank you. So, THANK YOU Brittanie How about this? 6 people in our party. All entrees and sides came out piping hot. That's just unheard of in a tense holiday environment and I give the kitchen team a huge round of applause for that. The quality of the dinner was as good or better than at any Mastro's I've ever been to and that list is long. To the management of Mastro's in Thousand Oaks- absolutely spectacular job last night, Christmas Eve 2024. Forgive the stock image- I attacked my New York Strip and never thought about taking pictures but, trust me, it was all 10 out 10. Cocktails- all served timely and concoctions were all right on the mark. Shrimp Cocktail- cold, perfectly cooked served over cocktail sauce and dry ice/ note- WATCH the horseradish. THE hottest I've ever had. I loved it. Salads- I ordered a wedge, chopped and tossed, and it was delicious. The bacon was savory with just the right amount of blue cheese and dressing. Everyone's salads were devoured. Entrées and sides - 2 NY Strip, two filets, one panko crusted sea bass (that was my wife's and she loved it) and one chicken dish. Again- all served hot and cooked to order. Mashed potatoes were silky, white cheddar Mac n Cheese was perfectly cooked and delicious as was the au gratin (OK we "carb loaded"...guilty pleasure on Christmas Eve ) We had a birthday in the group so Brittanie brought out a small butter cake. Well I ordered a bigger one. Pro tip- do NOT leave this place without ordering that dessert. I'm not sure if there are any words to adequately describe it- it was that good. Value- 10/10. Mastro's is fine dining. Comparatively speaking, their prices are right in line with other steakhouses in that elevated group. I've paid more at other fine dining establishments and received a lot less. So, yes, Mastro's Thousand Oaks, CA is a very good value for the

Yelp
We keep going back hoping for a better experience. Years ago it was the best in service and food. Now not so much. Overly salted food with service completely lacking. From trying to get seated with a reservation to waiting 30 minutes for a drink to wrong dressing on salads and overly salted food. To top it off the valet did not open the doors to the car upon leaving. Expensive for mediocre food and very lacking service. Completely disappointed.

Yelp
Updated review: I wish it was possible to give 6 stars!! I have been visiting this location for YEARS and have never once been disappointed by a single thing. From the service to the impeccable and delicious food, it's a home run every time. We love coming during nights when there is live music and love how it is both cozy and sleek. Coming here for our anniversary has also become tradition and they always make it so special! Still the best restaurant in town

Yelp
Food was excellent but my service was subpar for such an upscale place. Our steaks came out at the same time as our salads and the one drink we ordered, we had to ask for 3 separate times before it came. It was simply not busy enough for our waitress to have been so unorganized and unavailable. The restaurant manager, I assume since he was dressed nicer, was roaming around and I had to ask him for our check. We got our soda for free. Our 5$ bread cost more. Really bad experience

Yelp
terrible customer service. to say im disappointed would be such an understatement. i used to hold mastros as such HIGH STANDARDS but after i got sick on my birthday dinner from eating here and the manager never got back to me after she said someone would reach out??? -1000/10. at this point there's nothing mastros T.O. can do to get me back as a regular. do not come to this location unless you like underwhelming table service, and uncooked shrimp appetizers, water glasses that smell like eggs - just so disgusting. i will never come back here ever again. the worst location.

Yelp
What an absolutely wonderfully delightful meal we had at this location. Our server was tremendous. She was happy to help us make good selections. Got us the secret special Caesar salad and was quick on drinks. I enjoyed the fillet that I had and also the scallop that came with it. All of the sides were very good as well. I especially enjoyed the creamed corn. For dessert we had a berry cobbler - so delicious. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and the bar is outstanding. Look forward to my next visit.

Yelp
Posh, elegant and upscale are ways to describe our dinner at Mastro's Steakhouse! We pulled up to valet ($7+tip) and went in through a giant door and inside was dark wood, crisp white table cloths and low lighting. There are 3 rooms to dine in, and we sat in the front room overlooking the civic arts plaza. The wait staff was excellent, checking in at all of the correct times throughout the evening, but not pushy or invasive. The cocktail menu was large and my yummy drink had a little flamingo pick in it! Cute! My husband and I split a Caesar salad and they halved it for us which was appreciated! Our friends got the iceberg wedge salad and they chopped it and the bacon in that salad... perfect! Thick sliced, cooked crispy but not burned! I got the bone in filet medium and it was very good, those plates are HOT so watch out! It was tender and tasty! We split the sides: Mac and cheese, Brussel sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes. Best one was the potatoes, would definitely get that again! Choose something other than the Brussel sprouts. The Mac and cheese was flavorful, a great mix of cheeses. The pasta was a little over cooked. For dessert the butter cake, served with ice cream and whip cream was SO good, a must get! All in all we had a great time! I would recommend this place for a celebration dinner!

Yelp
Thank you, Robert! You made us feel like family. Delicious food, phenomenal atmosphere, and an absolutely stunning view out back, dining here felt like a special occasion every minute. Perfect steaks, attentive service, and a sunset backdrop that makes this Malibu spot unforgettable. Highly recommend reserving a patio/table with the view.

Yelp
NEVER get a digital gift card from Mastros! I received a digital gift card from Mastro's and tried to use it ($250) . I showed it to the server upon arriving and she said it usually has numbers under the bar code, so I asked the manager, Matthew, to review it on my phone. After reviewing, he said he needed original email so I called my friend who gave it to me. He researched it and the manager called him directly and got his credit card number, date of purchase but he still could not honor it. He said the office is closed on the weekend. I asked can I get a credit on Monday and he said no. I honestly could not believe it. Throughout our dinner I was going back and forth with the manager , server and my friend. It was a disappointing experience and I'll be looking for another steakhouse to spend my money.

Yelp
Service excellent. Food excellent. Thousand Oaks outshines Malibu! Malibu view obviously beautiful but service was horrible. Attention to customers lacked.

Yelp

Yelp
The food is exceptional, well made, nicely presented and shareable. The shareable aspect is more for the sides and apps and desserts, but even the main courses are pretty large portions! The service was great, the waiter was very patient and helpful and was able to accommodate our large party. The ONLY side note I will provide is that it was so loud while we were ordering, the music was just overpowering the intro process and we heard NONE of the specials for the day! My filet had truffle butter on it, which was Amazing! There is A LOT of butter though, so I personally would have moved some off the plate if I knew it would all melt quickly.

Yelp
Amazing food and ambiance. I don't mind splurging once in a while and mastro's is the place to do it. The filet is delicious and the service is right there. What also impressed me was how crowded the whole restaurant was when we were leaving. Fantastic experience!!!

Yelp
The ocean club location was better. Server there was more welcoming. I will still be back because the steak here is always good. The Ocean Club just offers a more memorable experience. It's nice to try all locations though and make your own opinion. Don't mind me.

Yelp
There was constant buzz about their warm butter cake and how it ranked on the top of similar concoctions elsewhere. Thus, on Saturday night, we drove 30 miles to Thousand Oaks, to dine at Mastro's Steakhouse. After valet parking (reasonable $6), we entered the establishment at the reception area to be greeted by one wall full of wine bottles. There is also a dress code sign at the reception :) The place was packed, both in the bar area (where there was a vocalist singing and playing on the piano), and the dining spaces. All the patrons were dressed up, but not as sharp as the servers, all of which, were well groomed, with white coats and black bow ties. Poshness was in the air and you could smell success, everywhere. There was dim lighting, black cloth napkins, white table cloth and elegantly appointed table settings. It was no surprise that the menu was pricey. Fully expected, in this classy and electric ambiance, that welcomed you to be a part of their evening dining service. The Lobster Bisque arrived at the right temperature, creamy, with a rich seafood taste, containing very small pieces of lobster meat. The crab cake for one of our party was stringy, and ordinary. However, the magnet at Mastro's is their steaks. We had the 6 oz Filet Mignon (medium rare for me, medium for the other diner). For accompaniments, there was the Lobster meat (4 oz) and the Dungeness Crab meat (5 oz). Both these seafood selections were de shelled and steamed. Nicely done. Drawn butter and Béarnaise sauce was on the side. The Filet Mignon was sensational. Prepared to perfection, cut well with the knife, had firm texture and satisfying taste. The grand finale was the dessert, the real reason we came here. Alas, the Signature Mastro Warm Butter cake. We ordered two of them !! An exceptional dish, a large portion in each, tastefully dressed, marrying well with the ice cream. It came with sides of huge portions of cream (really). We could not finish either butter cake, and brought the left overs home. For those who are wondering about cost, the whole meal (for 3 people, including a glass of wine and an old fashioned cocktail), with tip, came to $450. Clearly, an amazing evening, fully worth the visit, and a night to remember, in its own category of food, service and culinary excellence.

Yelp
Mastro's is the definition of fine dining. My experience was incredible. We came here to celebrate a big milestone and they delivered. The service was excellent, the food was so tasty and the drinks were even better. We got the French onion soup, the truffle gnocchi, porterhouse and filet mignon which was all cooked to absolute perfection. The butter cake was the perfect ending to a fantastic night.

Yelp
In my opinion, this Mastro's location serves the best steak/cut of meat out of other Mastro's. The bar area is as lovely as the main dining and has daily piano/singer for entertainment. Such a fun place!

Yelp
My review in 2018 was five stars. Unfortunately, Mastro's Thousand Oaks has gone downhill. I came in with my two teenagers on Sunday, August 10th, and the service was subpar. The woman serving us was noticeably more attentive to the larger party tables. I had to ask for multiple items more than once. My kids enjoyed their filets, but I was served a side lobster tail that was about 5 inches long, cooked and deshelled. It was charred around the edges. I was charged $125 for what was supposed to be a jumbo 14 oz tail--something the server disclosed would be the price before placing the order. I left a tip of over 20%, but by the time I walked out, I was regretting it.

Yelp
Food was salty and so full of butter that I could feel my arteries clogging up. Service was good, not great. $5 for bread????? The waiter should tell you up front that you pay for bread. I can't believe that they charge for bread. They are not cheap and to charge for bread is a slap. I ordered a porterhouse that was good but not great. This was not worth what they charge. So, a good place, not worth the prices and charging for bread. Their steaks should be outstanding and they are not, just good. Been here twice and I was not satisfied.

Yelp
Customer service was good. Our server was new but nice, friendly, and attentive. We went for a birthday and they even printed the celebrant's name on the menu. - very nice of them to do. As usual, there was a live piano and live singing at the bar. Food wise - awesome as usual. Oysters, hamachi Crudo, tuna tartare were all fresh and delicious. Our steak came out cooked to perfection - according to our liking. Hands down - always great to be in this location. And valet is always fast.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. The ambiance is casual but elevated. Definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Came here for our holiday work dinner. The service was impeccable! The food from seafood tower, rack of lambs to dessert was absolutely delicious! Everyone was super attentive to our needs. My only qualm with them was that they forgot to serve the mashed potatoes to about 6 of us, who were seated at the end. So some of us served ourselves, while others didn't have any until they were done with their entree and then asked for some, just to have. We were a big party compared to the usual dinner parties, so I totally get it - we are all human! Overall, amazing dinner. This location was great!

Yelp
Dinner with the fam!! Mastro's is one of our favorite steak house. Their steaks are always well prepared and delicious. Service is impeccable they are very attentive. There's live music in one room but I don't find it overwhelming loud, we are able to hold a conversation comfortably. Great for date nights.
