We stayed in Mashyuko Youth hostel during our recent trip to Hokkaido in June 2025. As a family of 4 with 2 kids, this place is a good stay for a night or two. The host explained well about the shared facilities in the hostel including dining areas and bathroom/toilets. We rented bath towels from them as we didn't bring one. They have good wifi. Fresh pint beer is also available for 500 yen. Seico mart is nearby around 1.5kms from this hostel. Plenty of information is available onsite about Kawayu onsen, Lake Mashu, Mt.Iozan, Lake Kushharo and some fresh farms nearby. Watanabe experience farm is nearby as well, for some farm activities and fresh, good food.||The location of the hostel is quiet interior about 4-5 kms from the highway but that makes the beauty of this place. Quiet and pleasant. Sunset was exceptionally beautiful during our stay here. ||Lake Mashu is about 10mins drive from this hostel. If you are lucky star gazing can be done from here although lake Mashu is the best. I highly recommend this place!

These guys rock. They went out of their way to help us out, stored our bikes and had local tips. They made us feel so welcome. It's sort of remote (we were bike packing), but not a far drive from Lake Mashu and the station. Thanks for being rad! The New Zealand ladies

The owner/staff was among the best I've met at a hostel. He really cared about the concept of a hostel as a place to meet other people, helping guests interact and get to know each other, as well as taking great care of the guests himself. Average rooms and bed, but overall good value for price and the hostel is big with a lot of space and is close (by car) to Masshuko Lake, one of the most scenic locations in Hokkaido.

We stayed for 1 night at this hostel. The rooms are acceptable, though the whole place looks quite dated. Basic amenities such as shower gel/shampoo and hair dryer are available. However, we did not feel very welcomed by the hostel owner. In fact, he questioned us why did we came back late (as we have prebooked in advance for dinner at the hostel which is supposedly served at 630pm). The information provided on the website says 630pm but he insisted it was 6pm. Though he apologised after we showed him the info we got from the website, we were taken aback by his attitude towards customers. ||Also, the staff at the cafe where we had our dinner was quite rude to us. (Maybe upset that we came late??) However, it was not our mistake in the first place. We are not sure if the hostel and cafe are owned by the same person as dinner fee is paid directly to the cafe. Do note that the dinner served is a standard set meal (ours was a hamburg steak set), so if you have any dietary restrictions you need to let them know in advance. ||Lastly, the hostel is located close to a diary farm (you can smell it as soon as you step out of the hostel). So overall experience was less than pleasant. If you have slightly more budget, I will advise you to stay elsewhere (either near mashu station or kawayuonsen station) if you are visiting the area.

The location of the hostel was good, mount Mashu is only 7 km away if you are by car. The rooms were big, but I find the room and the shared facilities rather dirty. They didn't feel clean at all, especially the toilets didn't look clean. The showers are outdated and are some sort of group shower. We were glad that we only stayed one night, you do pay 49 euros for a private room.. Too much in our opinion.

Clean, tidy, basic accommodation with its own onsen. Only shared Japanese style bathroom available. Meals at the neighbouring restaurant were tasty and reasonably priced. The host Akira-san speaks good English and was very helpful. A handy base for exploring the local area.

We booked a double room with shared toilet and spent one night there. The hostel is far from the city and is really basic. There is an onsen, which is nice and is clean. Good option if you want to visit the neighboring lakes.

Great spacious double room with comfortable beds and heating in the room. Helpful staff and good shared ammenities. Excellent value for the price, well above what I'd expect from a Youth Hostel. Enjoyed the stay.
