America’s Most Beautiful Vineyards for Harvest Season

"Surrounded by three acres of lavender gardens that create a perfumed sensory tasting experience, I can enjoy a seated tasting of award-winning wines—where Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc are the stars—visit the lavender market for balms, butters, mists, and oils, or book a seated tasting or bocce court and bring my own picnic." - Katie Kelly Bell

Matanzas Creek Winery is a fantastic spot and one of the more memorable tastings I’ve had in Sonoma. The variety of red blends featuring Malbec and Merlot really stood out, with each wine offering something unique and well-balanced. The property itself feels friendly and cozy, making it a great place to relax and take your time. One of the best parts of visiting is the beautiful lavender fields, which you can wander through and enjoy at your own pace. They add a special charm to the whole experience and make this winery a must-visit.

Google
Had a tasting reservation for a Sunday at 11. The weather was amazing and the view from the patio was beautiful. I think Jillian was our wine guide and she was great, explaining each wine and giving background on the area and asking what kind of wine we liked. We bought 2 bottles to take home and can’t wait to enjoy them.

Matanzas Creek Winery is one of those rare spots that feels like a peaceful retreat for both couples and families. There’s no entrance fee, which we really appreciate, and yes—small children are welcome! It’s the kind of place where you can sip wine while the kids play nearby, all surrounded by rolling hills and blooming lavender. We always grab a bottle of their wine and enjoy a relaxed picnic on the property—it’s the perfect way to slow down and reconnect, whether you’re on a date or out with the family. And don’t miss the lavender shop. It’s charming, fragrant, and full of locally made treasures. I’m absolutely hooked on their lavender balm—so calming and luxurious, I stock up every time we visit.

Google
Our experience here was incredible. We reserved a tasting and it was easily the best one we've had. Our tasting guide made the experience very personal and memorable. We felt very welcome, and the grounds were absolutely gorgeous. I would highly recommend this to anyone in the region. Plus, the wine was incredible, the Journey Chardonnay, and it had the taste of a delightful buttery croissant.

We visited Matanzas Creek Nov 19, 2024 to pick up our wine shipment. It's one of the most beautiful vineyards, we enjoy coming here for the lavender garden and the wine tasting.

Google
This is the second time we have visited Matanzas Creek and loved it! We did the Current Relase tasting and had the pleasure of Brad pouring the wines. He is very knowledgeable and a lot of fun to talk to. He even poured a few that they had opened but not on the tasting menu, so we could compare with what we just had. The wines were so very good that we not only purchased the 2023 Sauv Blanc Taylor Peak, the 2024 Rose of Malbec (tasty!!l), the 2017 Merlot Jackson Park and the 2019 Armoniza Knights Valley but we joined their wine club. I am excited for our first shipment! Thanks again Brad and Matanzas Creek for providing us a wonderful wine tasting experience while enjoying the beauty of your winery and vineyards. Happy New Year!

Google
Absolutely amazing experience! I called earlier in the day to see if they had room for walk-in’s and they got us in at the start of the day. We had a great time with Brad and tasting so many different varietals and such a great education on the region, even picked a few wines to try catered to our preferences. Also, the most beautiful grounds and so much to see with the lavender and amazing views. Got a few wines sent to our home, totally worth it. Also the bocce was fun too!

Google
This vineyard was the highlight of our visit! Beautiful lavender fields, great tasting wine and Brad was an amazing host 🙂

Yelp
We came here for a Come Over October event and had a wonderful time. The atmosphere here is fantastic. It's an absolutely gorgeous winery with the scent of their lavender fields filling the air. The gentleman pouring our wine was amazing , I believe his name might have been Brad. Very laid back and knowledgeable. All of the wines we tried were excellent. This will definitely be on the list of go to wineries whenever we are in the area.

Yelp
The grounds are gorgeous. The views are 5 stars. The wines are very good... but seem a bit pricey. The Estate tasting is generous. The only reason it's not 5 stars is that our server didn't tell us much about the history ... or much at all. Perhaps because we were the last tasting of the day. He also forgot to bring us water and kept stopping by before we were finished. In a competitive area, these details stand out. Still, the grounds!!!!

Yelp
The winery is set in the Bennett Valley area of Santa Rosa. I went on a road rally with a number of people for a car club that ended here at the winery. There is a lavender garden you can walk through which gives you a nice sense of calm with the fresh scent all around you. Tasting is $35 per person unless you purchase a bottle of wine. It's free if so. I bought a petite Syrah blend that was pretty good. Matanzes' wine, to me, is overpriced for what it is. The tasting room area is broken into separate small rooms where one can sit and visit with a few friends. They sell all types of lavender ointments and such. The man who assisted me was friendly.

Yelp
I've known about this place for a long time. Seeing the hills covered in lavender does take a bit of luck, but when the lavender is in full bloom, it's actually quite beautiful. It's mainly an outdoor viewing area, very relaxing, and best of all, it's free. It's a great spot that welcomes the whole family.

Yelp
My friends and I wanted to hit up some wineries in Sonoma County, and Matanzas Creek was our first stop. We decided not to make a reservation as we weren't sure what time we would get there and didn't think it'd be necessary since February is off season. We had also checked their website the night before, there was plenty of availability for wine tastings on Sunday, so we figured it would be okay. We walked in Sunday around 2:30. Sadly by the time we arrived, they were fully booked for all indoor seating areas, so we ended up buying a bottle and sitting outside on their patio. They're known for their merlot and chardonnay. We tried a couple of the recommended wines at the bar before committing to a bottle (still managed to squeeze in a mini wine tasting!), and the 2021 Desvelado was our favorite, so we got a bottle for $70. It was a bit chilly out but still manageable, so we didn't mind sitting outside and chatting as we slowly sipped our wine. No one else was out on the patio, so we had it all to ourselves. We also took our wine glasses and walked around the grounds a little bit. They have a small creek running through the property which was pretty. The 2021 Desvelado was okay, but honestly it was a bit underwhelming compared to the wine from the two other wineries we went to afterwards.

Yelp
Hidden gem would be an understatement. Us wine drinkers usually gravitate towards Napa when we go wine tasting but boy is Sonoma county up there with the best of them. Matanzas is a humble giant, some of the best whites I've ever tasted especially their Sauvignon Blanc which has such a vibrant stone fruit start with a clean finish in your mouth. The winery itself is breathtaking with lavender fields and a picnic grotto area and a bocce ball court? Amazing. They allow dogs as well which made our lives easier not having to find a sitter for our day trip from the east bay. Nicole, our sommelier was terrific, insightful and gave us great info on other gems in the area. I vote this winery as the best place to take your out of town family and friends.

Yelp
Shout out to Brad for the most amazing honeymoon wine tasting experience! We came here on accident when one of our reservations got messed up. I am so thankful we did! The lavender gardens and the property are stunning and the wine was delicious. Brad understood I'm a white girly (and typically not Chardonnay) so he let us taste all the Sauvignon blancs they had available. We left with 4 bottles and some of the handmade lavender merch as well. It was the best day!

Yelp
I'm writing as a loyal wine club member to share a disappointing experience my mother and I had during our visit to the winery on Saturday, July 12. We arrived hoping to enjoy a tasting, and I completely understood when we were politely informed that weekend tastings require a reservation. I respected that policy and opted to purchase a bottle instead, which my mother and I enjoyed on the deck. However, I was disheartened to witness another member--who had been told the same thing just minutes before--receive not only multiple tastings for herself and her two guests, but also water and attentive service from the same staff member who had denied us the same. In contrast, my mother and I were never once checked on or offered any hospitality, even as we sat at the same type of table on the same deck. When I went inside to request water after we had finished our bottle, the staff member claimed not to have seen us--despite the limited number of tables and the clear visibility on the deck. When I brought up the difference in treatment, I was told the other guest "had recently become a member" and that the staff member "knew her." I left the winery feeling like I wasn't valued simply because I wasn't a familiar face. That's incredibly disappointing--not only as a member, but as someone who has proudly supported Matanzas Creek for its incredible wine and inspiring story, especially as a Latina myself who takes great pride in uplifting women and Hispanic-owned businesses. This experience has caused me to seriously reconsider my membership. I hope you take this feedback to heart and ensure your staff is trained to treat all guests, especially members, with equal courtesy and respect. Please cancel my membership ASAP.

Yelp
A lovely winery with an incredibly beautiful landscape! Making a reservation online for a tasting was very easy. Finding the winery was also pretty easy and there was plenty of parking available. We showed up about an hour early with the hope to explore the grounds. However it started to rain. We were able to start our tasting early. The wines we had were fabulous. A great showcase of grapes in the area. The gentleman leading our tasting was great - he let us sub in a wine, answered all of our questions, and even provided a map so we could see where each grape was grown. I'd absolutely recommend this winery to anyone visiting the area and would love to return in the future.

Yelp
Such a lovely winery Kendra was very pleasant and kind Out of the 6 wines, I liked the Rosé Malbec the most :) Beautiful scenery

Yelp
This review is for the customer service we received today. We were so looking forward to visiting the winery with my parents in law today. We made reservations but upon waking up the in laws felt very ill with some flu like illness and could not go. I was sad but at the same time understand we had to cancel so I contacted the staff and they responded promptly saying they were able to cancel the reservation which was very kind of them. I LOVE how they are dog friendly and look forward to visiting them in the future. They are super close to the hotel we like to stay at as well so it would have been a great trip for all 5 of us (including our puppy). Next time!

Yelp
Really a lovely, picturesque place with delicious (and fairly priced) wine tasting and charcuterie. We arrived 30 mins later for our tasting reservation because we went followed the GPS to the wrong place ‍). The staff was understanding and accommodating, continuing with our tasting as planned. They have beautiful lavender gardens on site that are great for photos and sooo many lovely buzzing honey bees that the flowers look like they are vibrating. A cute little gift shop features lavender products and much more. Everything we were looking for on our Mom/Daughters trip!

Yelp
My wife and I have been wine club members here for about the past 6 years now and have visited many times. They have some great wines here, whether white or red. In addition to wine, the property has a lavender field from which they've made hand sanitizer, soap, lotion, etc. All in all, this is a great place to visit, have some good wine, chat with some of the staff

Yelp
So picturesque and peaceful. Matanzas Creek Winery has been on my bookmarks for a while particularly because their lavender field stood out to me, so I'm glad I finally got to experience it, although not at peak lavendar season. I came here with a couple gf's and it was September, so the lavender fields weren't as purple or fragrant. We still enjoyed walking through the fields and around the property after our tasting. Our host was very attentive - it was a hot day and he noticed every time we were dodging the sun. Every time he came out with the next pour, he fixed the umbrellas for us. My gf's and I all enjoyed the wines. We were saying it would be a great place to get a membership. I currently live out of state but if I were back to visit, I'd def consider it. It was already gorgeous, but I imagine it's even more gorgeous in the fall with all the foliage, and in the summer in peak lavender season. They have a cute little gift shop inside. There's indoor and outdoor seating for the tastings. There are tables around the property so it'd be a nice place for a picnic as well. Would definitely come back if I'm in Sonoma county again!

Yelp
This review is primarily for the club member experience. The winery offers club member events at a relatively nominal charge of $25pp - ok no big deal and I figure I'd rather have to buy a ticket to be certain of a good experience. Ehhh...I get there halfway into the event and clearly a lot of folks camped themselves out next to the only two food stations (which were just card tables) so they could fly in and snatch every one of the dozen or so bites that arrived out of the kitchen at a pace of what seemed to be every 18 minutes. So no food for me . Yes you could have as much wine as you wanted but I can just as easily do that at home. I'd prefer to see them ratchet down the number of club parties, charge a higher ticket price and do it right - add a few roaming servers with the food and maybe offer a couple of tours of the lavender garden. The tasting room staff are always lovely, the property is gorgeous and I live right down the road so I'll keep coming back but I hope they reconsider offering just a couple of higher end events.
google avatar

Yelp
This review is specifically for their "Come Over October" complimentary tasting. A fun concept that is part of a national campaign encouraging people to come together over wine in the month of October. Free Tickets available under events on their website with rsvp through Tock (while they last). Matanzas Creek is set amongst mountains in Bennett Valley, their grounds and patio areas are really beautiful. Due to the heat the tasting was inside, we sat on a comfy loveseat with a coffee table for our wines. Very relaxing atmosphere. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The tasting consisted of 3 wines ~ Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Merlot. We were also served a welcome glass of Róse. I enjoyed all the selections of the tasting and purchased the Sauvignon Blanc. I noticed a list of events they hold and yoga in the vineyard caught my interest, I'll have to come back and check that out. Great experience.

Yelp
We went for their share and pair Sunday tasting and had a really great time! It's a gorgeous winery and each wine we tried was excellent. We also were able to play bocce ball and walk through their lavender garden. We weren't there at the right time for when the lavender is in bloom but it's a great excuse to go back! :)
google avatar

Natasha D.

Yelp
Love the setting, the friendly staff and of course, the fabulous wines! Whites are my fav but many reds to choose from as well! And the lavender garden and products for sale are the icing on the cake.

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Overall beautiful winery! The vibes immaculate because the property has a great view of the valley. They were booked the for reservations the Saturday we visited. One staff member said we could only do bottle service which we elected to do. We were there over an hr and only noticed 1 group come in, wish they could have accommodated a tasting. We got a bottle of Sauv Blanc which was okay, a bit more bitter than I'm used to. Would come back for the vibe but not necessarily the wine.
google avatar

Leah E.

Yelp
I was a member of this winery for a year... I would not recommend anyone join the wine club. Wine clubs are all about hospitality and experience. Unfortunately, the only person that I had excellent service from was Sergio. I used my membership benefits at La Crema twice (sister winery) and the second time I visited they remembered me! This never happened at Matanzas while visiting countless times as a member. As a member of Matanzas I was able to reserve complementary charcuterie plates, while this was much appreciated they never once remembered or brought it out without me asking directly for it. If you ever have an issue and give constructive feedback via email they will not respond. I was only able to attend one event due to conflicting schedules. I had reservations for a February release party that I could not attend because my flight got canceled and they would not refund my money. Then I attended another Sunset Summer event that was advertised as a bring your own food/picnic event. They gave a splash of rose at the entrance and then you had to purchase glasses of wine or bottles. So underwhelming and fully represented the ethos of doing the bare minimum for their members. Overall, I enjoyed the wines and the lavender fields and products on site but sadly this winery misses the mark with creating experiences or connections with their members.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is actually a beautiful little slice of heaven off the beaten path in Sonoma. Just gorgeous! We went for a tasting and ended up becoming members because the wines were as good as the views. And Brad, who tended to us during our tasting, was amazing. He was easy to talk to and made our experience so pleasant. A little nice touch that I would add is that he personally included a note in our first club shipment. Just a great personal touch!

Yelp
Courtesy of the Hyatt Regency Santa Rosa, we received a BOGO coupon to experience Matanzas Creek. A short 10 minute drive from the hotel in a beautiful valley, the property was amazing! We were greeted with the sweet sent of lavender and sounds of classic French music filling the air. They graciously accommodated us (we did NOT have a reservation) and proceeded to pour several wines which were quite delightful. We look forward to revisiting Matanzas Creek on a future trip, and won't hesitate to ry one of their wines in our local wine shop.

Yelp
We stopped at Matanzas Creek during our visit to the Napa and Santa Rosa area and it did not disappoint. The lavender gardens created such a beautiful backdrop for our wine tasting, and the service was incredibly friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
I went middle of May for my birthday & it was really nice. The weather was okay but the workers told me that June / July would be really nice to come. The lavender is to bloom around this time. I want to go back when everything blooms! The wine tasted real good & they educate you with all the wine they serve. The vibe is just right for a nice relaxing evening celebrating a big event.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has become a part of the fabric of our lives in Sonoma County. Throughout the year, we leverage the membership program to play bocce, picnic, enjoy the lavender and the great wine. Their red blends are delightful and my favorite to pick up each time. Nestled in the foothills of Sonoma Mountain, this spot is beautiful and a lovely hidden gem. Not to mention the staff are incredible! They greet us so warmly and by name each time we visit.

Yelp
Having admired wines of Matanzas creek in multiple occasions, it was no surprise that this had to be an essential winery to visit on a recent trip to Sonoma Coast. The winding road to the winery is a bit of a mystical adventure in itself, driving among the largely residential and woody Bennet Valley Road. Now, as far as the winery experience, it's a bit of a mix. Expect everything to be extremely casual. The wine glasses were full of hard water stains. There isn't much attention to design. The patio, which was originally intended to have excellent views, is largely blocked by the ugly cover that they installed, blocking the view for almost all the tables. The folks working here are very kind and down to earth, but some are not very knowledgeable about wine. The wines are of course excellent. Perhaps the highlight of Matanzas creek is indeed the lavender field and drying barn. It is of decent size and makes for a wonderful adventure to explore. Matanzas Creek is overall a good winery to visit, but would be even better if there was more attention paid to highlighting the setting, design, glass cleanliness and educating staff about wine. On the other hand, there are the gorgeous lavender fields, kind people and a feel of visiting someone's home to drink a glass of wine. Without the lavender fields, I would have certainly said to skip the winery visit and just grab one of their excellent bottles at the store.

Yelp
7/3/21 My boyfriend and I came up to Santa Rosa for the 4th of July weekend and our first stop was the Matanzas Creek Winery. The drive to the winery is very scenic and beautiful. As you enter the winery, you can see the main building at the top of the hill and the lavender gardens below. We parked at the bottom of the hill, close to where the lavender gardens begin and we walked up to the winery room. The staff are very friendly and I'm not sure how they could tell we had a long drive, but they immediately directed us to the restroom. After that business was taken care of, one of the ladies showed us to our table. The winery only takes reservations that must be made online prior to arrival. We were seated outside with a lovely view, the weather was perfect! We did the Comparative Tasting and added a charcuterie board as well. The lady that helped us was nice, but too talkative in my opinion. Overall, I enjoyed the wine, the snacks and the view. The lavender garden is very lovely and smells great!

Yelp
Came here today for a tasting and picnic with my man and brother and sister in law... set back beautifully in the mountains, the vineyards are in their beautiful fall colors and the entrance greets you with scents of jace set, rosemary and other herbs and fragrant flowers... The staff is very professional and knowledgeable about the wines and we bought several bottles (enjoyed one outdoors with the lunch we had brought). The gardens are gorgeous. Except for a few hungry wasps that were trying to get our food and the gardeners with their noisy leaf blowers, it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
google avatar

Luv H.

Yelp
The setting wine tasting is very nice and beautiful. But I feel like the people service wasnt all there for guests unless your a club member or who knows. Our server did his best and even offer off the flight chart to taste. Charcuterie board was good. Overall the experience of wine tasting here at this winery was alright. I love my Lodi club member way better or could've been a miss and hit service. Very snobby place. My husband end up getting 2 bottle. I didn't like any of the flight or wine here at all. But their atmosphere lavender garden and dining in for a pinic table was beautiful. There was quit people coming in for those picnic table at noon.
google avatar

Amber S.

Yelp
By far, our favorite stop while in wine country. We learned so much about the process and and the subtleties between different types of wine. The lavender fields (even though they weren't in bloom) are amazing and a picnic is a must.

Jeremiah L.

Yelp
My wife and I have visited this establishment annually during July when the lavender is in bloom. We have usually had an exceptional experience. However, upon our most recent visit, our host did not offer to revisit any of the tastings, expected us to buy at least two bottles upon our departure, and was surprised when we asked to taste the Chardonnay once more before we purchased any bottles. Other tables had their purchases brought to them and their bills settled at the table, but our host asked that we come inside to collect our bottles and to complete our transaction, while others were able to settle their bills while completing their tastings outdoors. The gentleman who served our tastings seemed disinterested and commented how the wine was aged in a "big ass barrel." While many years of experience at this winery have kept us returning annually, I hope this experience will not deter us or others from experiencing all this establishment has to offer.

Jordan Jackson S.

Yelp
We came here on a whim to look at the lavender fields. After walking around the property, we decided to try the wine. The winery was very polite, and accommodated us with a dog on very short notice which was very cool. At first the wine hostess was very polite and served us with a glass of rose and water for the table. Unfortunately after that, we sat for about 30 minutes and didn't have any follow up service. We went out to check, and our hostess had let us know she was coming. After waiting another 5-10 minutes, we still didn't have any service so we got up to leave. When we got up to leave and let her know we were leaving, our waitress just said sorry, she didn't offer to come bring the wine, she didn't offer to find someone to help and she didn't offer to help remedy the situation. It was just very awkward. I really wish we had gotten to try more of their wines, but we didn't get a chance. I'm sure with proper service this would have a higher rating. Appreciate the short notice accommodation though.

Yelp
I visited Matanzas Creek Winery this past weekend with 7 of my friends for my birthday. To start, making the reservation was extremely easy. You can make it on the website but I called to confirm a couple of details because we had such a large party -- Amanda, in the tasting room was friendly and helpful. The grounds and setting at Matanzas Creek are absolutely serene and breathtaking. We had a picturesque picnic table that was comfortable and partially shaded which was perfect. I am not a wine connoisseur by any means, but absolutely loved the bottles we purchased - especially the Sauvignon Blanc, followed closely by the Merlot (I believe it was Jackson). As Matanzas mentions in their description here - they make wine but they really create an experience - yes. My friend's partner is a professional photographer and took photos of us in one of the gardens - the backdrop, the weather, the wine, the company - made for an absolutely perfect day and unforgettable birthday. Looking forward to returning for the lavender bloom in June - I can only imagine just how stunning the property and experience will be then.

Yelp
Nice place to take photos and taste wine on a mid summer day. Lavender field is nicely plotted with lots of purple and fragrance!

Yelp
Ok the venue is beautiful. And our sever was amazing and friendly. You can smell all the lavender during the drive up. I loved that we could explore the lavender fields and they also had a bocce ball court. We did the tasting and I have to say that all the wines were not good. The only one that was semi decent was the red blend. I did not like any of their whites at all. I would come for the scenery but not the wines.
google avatar

Jeremy P.

Yelp
Had an absolute blast at Matanzas Creek! Stunning views, great white wines (that's our fav!), and such a positive winery experience. Also, great charcuterie board and the Brie with lavender honey was ::chefs kiss!:: However, the piece de resistance.... The SERVICE! Sergio was our server and he was incredible. Detailed tasting notes, knowledgeable about the overall brand, and super attentive. I would absolutely ask for him if you're visiting Matanzas Creek.
google avatar

Salena C.

Yelp
We had heard the buzz about Matanzas Creek while wine tasting at multiple other places. People really raved about it, and I understand why now after coming here! This was one of the only places on our tour that my husband LOVED the wine enough to buy a bottle! It is standing room only while wine tasting, which after being spoiled with a couple of wineries with options to sit, felt sad. Our server didn't rush us by any means, so we took our time and really enjoyed all of the tastes to the fullest. After tasting (and buying! Lol), you are welcome to use their picnic area or explore their lavender fields, both of which I recommend doing! They do sell cheeses and meats in the wine tasting area if you didn't pack ahead!

Yelp
Amazing outdoor space. Great wines and friendly staff. I came here with my family and friend 4 years ago and had such a great time I returned just recently for amazing vibes in laying bocce, cornhole and walking through the lavender.

Yelp
My favorite favorite FAVORITE part of our Sonoma trip was lounging out on these adirondack chairs for hours. (Seriously hours). As much as I loved the organized tastings we did elsewhere, this was a perfect day. This winery came recommended, as did the adirondack chairs. I was given specific directions to buy a bottle of wine, cheese, and crackers, find the big chairs overlooking the lavender fields, sit and enjoy. That is exactly what I did. We arrived at truly the most perfect time as someone was just forfeiting 2 of the four available chairs. I quickly snagged them and my boyfriend went to go get the wine and snacks. The weather was perfect, the wine was delicious and the people watching was top notch. Their were plenty of other tables and chairs throughout the rest of the winery, but not big cozy ones and none with the lavender view. If you're lucky enough to get them, you'll understand why we couldn't give them up. We snagged a few lavender products from the shed before we left to keep the good times rolling. Thanks for the perfect day Matanzas!

Yelp
I celebrated my 50th birthday here in March with about 60-70 people. I could not have chosen a better place to do so! Matt, our host, was very hospitable and left no stone unturned to accommodate what I'd call a pretty demanding organizing team! That included having to invoke plan B ie. to move the celebration to indoors due to protracted rains on the day of the event. the warmth from the hosts made it as much memorable as the other planned events that day. The ambiance in the winery is unpretentious, yet beautiful and the wines top notch! I'd highly recommend the place both as a venue of your next event, well as to spend a great day of summer with your friends & family. I certainly plan to do the latter this summer myself.

Yelp
We visited Matanzas strictly for enjoying the lavender fields. Its one of our favorite flowers: gorgeous purple colors, unique pleasant fragrance, natural sleep aid, and yes occasional herb to use in cooking! Perfect background for taking photos of course. There are lots of honeybees here, but they tend to leave you alone if you do the same. You enter into the winery and will eventually find a large, unpaved dirt parking lot. From there you can gradually ascend upwards toward the winery. Not sure if its just me, but the lavender fields seems to get darker and denser the higher you go up. They have lots of umbrellas and benches for shade and resting from the heat. There are also picnic areas and a bocce ball court here. We did not get to sample any of the wines this time, though I will say the main tasting room is nice. Two unisex restrooms, an outside water dispenser (for people along with a doggie bowl), lavender gift shop, and limited picnic snack foods for sale. Very relaxing place with great ventilation.

Yelp
I feel especially moved to review this winery because my wife and I were just there to see a fun local band "the Bluebyrds". The wine there is great but the general ambiance is worth a visit. The place is surrounded by many types of plants old and new. The pergolas are well used with flowery plants hanging like works of art. And don't miss the artwork indoors. Scenic! There is a very large orchard of lavender and you might check for the time of year it is in full bloom. This place can be meditative.

Yelp
I heard about this winery after buying lavender syrup that featured lavender from their winery. Sadly, they no longer partner with that company. We already had an itinerary set for wine tasting in Sonoma, but added this one last minute because I love all things lavender! I just wish the fields were blooming when we went in early April! The wine tasting was nice, our gal poured heavy which is always a plus. I was able to purchase some lavender items such as an oil roller, candle, sachet of lavender & more.

Yelp
I got the chance to visit this beautiful winery today. I really enjoyed my experience that I have to immediately write a Yelp review. I got a reservation for the comparative tasting which goes for 35 dollars. For the amount of tastings you get, I say it is worth it. What I like is that they serve you two different types of wine (therefore called comparative) and you get to differentiate between the wines you are served. I thought that the comparative tasting provided a good contrast between two different types of wine. Nicole was my server. I can honestly say she was so enthusiastic, friendly and knowledgeable . I'm glad I got to meet her. She even provided me a map of Sonoma and gave me her recommendations of other places to visit in Sonoma county. Thanks Nicole ! She made my experience so much better.

Yelp
Doing a wine tasting . Marcia the wine maker came by and spent 20 minutes telling us about her wines and why and how and she is amazing. From Chile and she studied in France and other places. We did a wine tasting and Chris was patient and knowledgable and pretty witty. Every wine we tried was good. The Bennett Valley and Cougar ridge Chardonnay were GREAT!. Nice sized tasting pours and we had 6 plus we bought and drank a bottle. A nice view outside. All things considered a 5 star experience.!

Yelp
Second time at Matanzas-- We did the wine tasting the first time back in March and found a couple new favorites: the Bennett Valley Sauvignon Blanc & Bennett Valley Chardonnay. They got a picnic area beneath the tasting area (food permitted, but no outside wines). The lavenders weren't in bloom then, so we decided to come back to see them in full bloom. It did not disappoint! Came back today with the lavenders in full bloom. We also brought food and utilized one of the picnic tables. We purchased 2 wine bottles that waived the picnic table rental. Would come back again and again! it was not hard to make Matanzas one of my top favorites--thanks to both the serene setting and the wines! It doesn't bother me, but for ones who are allergic or sensitive to bees, there is a lot on the lavender field so be cautious.

Yelp
Came for a bottle of lavender aftershave, left as a wine club member! The relaxed atmosphere, great service and style of wines produced, aswell as a last minute accommodation by the staff made us feel right at home and eager to join the club. Just down the street from Bennett valley golf course, I think I found my new post-golf sipping spot :)
