We booked for 2 nights but stayed for 1, as we wanted to get going on our road trip after our day out to get to where we needed to be. This campground was as per advertised, we had no choice actually to book since it was the last one available otherwise we would've chosen somewhere that offered full hookup. it took time waiting in line to empty and fill up. On the way out, a group of Elk was spotted super close to the campground which was so cool as it was the first time I saw Elk on this trip and this trip was after Yellowstone. We showered in our truck camper so I cannot comment to what the showers were like. Travelled in October. The campground is very close to the general store and amenities.

What a spot. Peaceful campsite, we arrived late and it was easy to find our spot and then check in the following morning. Free shuttle bus stops right outside the site so super easy access to different points of the canyon and the little town. Clean bathrooms, plenty of space between pitches. The view of the stars at night from our pitch were breathtaking. Would recommend this site for anyone visiting!

We stayed in November. The campground was quiet, clean, and very nice. It is convenient to take the bus from the campground to all of the attractions. The bathrooms were clean and conveniently located. There was a lot of wildlife in the campground but this wasn't a problem. Ravens, elk, deer, crows, chipmunks were commonly seen The general store was within walking distance and it was well stocked and reasonably priced.

Quiet surroundings and well maintained camp sites far apart with clean washrooms and the sites are good size. Stayed for 2 nights over the Thanksgiving weekend. Slept in the car as the temperature in late night to early morning dropped to -9 degrees, so be prepared as there are no electric hookups in the location. We used the shower facility in the premises (opposite to the check-in counter) which was 2.5$ for 5mins and it has laundry facilities which are well maintained.

We stayed for 7 nights in the Mather Campground and it was quiet and we enjoyed seeing the elk walking through the campground. We had two different sites in the campground and loved having a little shade and sun. Some sites are made for RV's and we always choose those sites to fit our travel trailer and truck. There was plenty of room. The roads are tight, but you can go slow and make your way through with ease. The laundry was clean and was a great place to catch up on laundry on the road. The walking trails went all around and easy to get to the rim, bus and the market nearby. Great place to camp and hike. We would definitely stay here again.

Google
Excellent location at the grand canyon and a good price too. We paid $18 for a non EHU pitch. Quiet at this time of year. Showers were $2.50 for allegedly 5 minutes but this wasn't the case. Showers last about 2 minutes so you need at least $5 per person. Toilets were pretty grim.

Google
We stayed for 2 nights at the campground in a RV, all sites are NON hooked which was fine for us. Our site was on the Juniper loop, not too far from the entrance & showers (5mn walk) but deep enough so that we wouldn't be close to the road. The site was super nice, roomy, with a firepit and space around it for chairs as well as a picnic table with benches. Rangers are at the entrance daily at the end of the afternoon and super keen to chat & share more about wildlife and the park. That is super helpful for Junior Rangers program. We tried the showers; water is hot, and shower cabins are giving privacy & offer a separate space for changing and another one for showering (with a shower curtain so your things don't get wet) BUT by the end of the day they were not clean. They do also close quite early at 4PM (in October) so definitely something to keep in mind while planning for your hikes & your day.

Google
The campsites are tightly packed, but it's the Grand Canyon, so, if you are like us, you will only be there at first light and after sundown. We were frequently visited by birds, a group of three deer on the daily, and a pair of young elk. Despite the tightly packed campsites, we were able to clearly view the night sky until Moonrise.

Yelp
Love this campground. Very clean, easy process to check in, sites are well taken care of and NO BEARS!. Hahaha. Highly recommend to come during the summer with families. Those who book camp sites please cancel your reservation if you do decide not to come anymore, it's sad to see online that there aren't anymore available sites to reserve but then you see soo many empty sites in person the day of. Give other people a chance to visit if your plans change. I stayed in the Oak Loop site number 229.

Yelp
I've stayed here 3 times before, lastest was in April 2025. This place is so very clean, well kept, bathrooms are well maintained (even heater/AC), there's showers and places to do your laundry if needed. My family loved this place. When we went, it started snowing/sleeting around noon and the tewmperature dropped to 16 degrees, even with propane heaters we were struggling, so be aware. Great place though, will continue to visit often.

Yelp
Stopped here on a whim and was lucky enough to grab a campsite. We had drove in from Utah and really had no plans. We're just hoping to camp somewhere. This campsite holds about 300 vehicles. It's well marked and easy to find your campsite. Even though there were about 300 vehicles, it it was very quiet. The stargazing is absolutely amazing. I suspect if you're trying to get a spot during the summer months, you will definitely want to make a reservation. I really enjoyed my experience camping here. They have showers, bathrooms, and washing machines. Each campsite has a fire pit and a picnic table. I would recommend this campground.

Yelp
I love this campground because it combines two of my loves - camping and national parks. Mather Campground is located on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park within Grand Canyon Village. Mather is pretty large and has 327 sites. Each site has a fire ring, a picnic table and can accommodate up to 6 people. There are also flush toilets and drinking water on site. Pine loop is a tent-only area. Staying at Mather Campground is nice because you are nearby many of the lookout points and hiking trails. If you want to do some of the touristy stuff, the gift shops and visitor centers are all close by too. You can take the shuttle if you don't feel like driving to these areas. Even though the South Rim gets pretty crowed, Mather Campground still feels a little secluded from everything. There are lots of trees and the sites are pretty spacious. We were able to set up two large pop-up canopies and spread out our tents. We spend a part of our day hiking the Rim trail and checking out a couple lookout points. Then we headed back to our campsite where I made my infamous over-the-fire stew. Reservations can be made on recreation.gov.

Yelp
This is a great campground depending on your level of "expertise" when it comes to camping. The Campground is located near the Grand Canyon (South Rim) and has great access (bicycle, car, or shuttle) to enjoy the area. If your a novice, or like things a bit simple when it comes to camping, this is a great location. Even for the experienced campers, they too were out in full force enjoying the grounds. Tent camping is doable in a limited area in each of the lots and the drivable loop around the campsites is easy to follow. We pitched a large tent in the area and stayed for 3 nights. We got some rain during the setup but nothing major. During June, the nights get a bit cool but nothing that's unbearable. Sinks & toilets were a short walk from our campsite while the showers were located towards the entrance. Running water was close by for our cooking & drinking needs along with the Elks :-) Wildlife A supermarket is located in the village (a bit pricier vs bringing something from home) so you don't have to worry about running out of food, ice or if you need anything. Already planning 2 trips as we had a great experience.

Yelp
This campground was great! We chose to stay in the Pine loop which does not have any generators and we were happy that we made this choice. Everybody around us was super cool and respectful, even people who left early in the morning were very very quiet! The presence of bugling elk really made this special, not to mention that there's an amazing market right around the corner that pretty much has everything that you would possibly need. I packed like I was going to be on BLM land for 10 days but no need because you can get everything you need here:-) pretty great campground overall

Yelp
this is an amazing campground it's well organized and fire pits are nice. great for tent camping!

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful location. It's great if you like to camp close by people and having accommodations like toilets, running water, and a store near by. Normally I'm a primal camper so it wasn't ideal for people who like to potty in nature as opposed to a gross, public toilet. Definitely the downfall too. Having quiet hours enforced is nice since you have no option but to be around others. Everyone was respectful though. There are elk and mule deer that wander right through camp. You can see all the game trails throughout the grounds. The ravens are everywhere and the size of a standard chicken - also very smart. They have warnings about them. We had two spots for four days. We had tickets for a tour of antelope canyon but it rained so much flash floods were too intense so our expedition was cancelled. We drove back from Page and had a nice fire and food from Amadio Farms.

Yelp
Nice and clean campground with lots of amenities around. Since it's a busy campground, it was kinda loud with close sites. Still a good experience. Would go again.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time at Fir Loop Site 98 in early August 2024. It was monsoon season with daily thunder, lightning and rain showers. These usually came in the afternoon or evening and lasted 1-2 hours. The thunder and lightning was stunning, a great part of the experience. Super cool vibe in the campground. Very clean and fragrant with pine. Europeans everywhere. We were a bit concerned about whether our 21 foot tent trailer would fit. The online specs say 15 ft, but the pics looked like the driveway could accommodate more. We emailed the camp office, and they invited us to come give it a try and would relocate us if necessary. But the trailer fit perfectly. At the campground you're in walking distance to the shower and market, though we chose to drive. It's a brief, 3-5 minute drive to the rim, GC Village and the visitor center. We saw little wildlife in the campground this time of year. Just the ravens. We loved camping here and can't wait to come again!

Yelp
Couldn't check in when we got there - no cell phone service in the area. Made reservations ahead of time online. Stopped in when we arrived to check in at the office. There was a short line but it went smoothly and quickly. The campgrounds are well maintained. Each has a nice concrete picnic table and parking spot for a vehicle. Each also has a fire ring with a built in grate. While in reasonably close proximity to other campsites, you still have plenty of room. The restrooms were clean and well maintained. Be aware you must bring your own firewood from outside the campground. While you can buy small bundles at the general store (not far away), it's $10 a bundle and you'll need a couple bundles a night if you plan to use a fire. As with all campgrounds, you need to tend your fire or property dowse it with water when leaving the site unattended. Like any other campground, there's a mix of tent campers, RV, camper trailers etc. Quiet time from 10pm to 8am. We got to see lots of wildlife roaming throughout the area. With that in mind, all food as well as trash needs to be properly stored at all times!

Yelp
Disneyland of campgrounds but the location is awesome. Took my first camping trip as a single lady and stayed one night here. The weather broke records and I was grateful that I could chase shade all day in my spot due to all the trees. The spot was big, plenty of trees and not a far walk to the bathroom.
google avatar

Kelly R.

Yelp
This is a fantastic campground and we have a great site on Pine loop. The sites are large, they each have plenty of trees and rocks a fire ring a cement picnic table and flat areas for your tent. The shuttle system can take you to the rim and also many hiking trails and other areas of interest nearby. I would highly recommend him we will be back. I would recommend bringing bikes for the kids and scooters if they would enjoy that all of the roads are asphalt and paved and in good repair. There are also biking trails that are away from the cars. However, A note of warning. We thought it was going to be in the 80s here because we looked up the weather in the weather app. It was below 30° last night and we were miserable in the tent. This is because we were not prepared for cold weather like this. * caveat: When you come make sure you look up the weather in the actual campground area not Grand Canyon in general. Hope this helps and we plan to come back.

Yelp
This review is about 6 years late but from the numbers, it looks like the highlight of my life is eating and criticizing Mexican food. So hear I am to let you know that the Grand Canyon is a cool place to visit. Everyone who has it on their bucket list should do so....BUT....there are plenty of national and state parks out there equally as breathtaking and inspiring as this. With age I have grown less tolerant of crowds. I like to go where everyone isn't. This may be a good explanation for why I haven't made my way back. I'm glad my wife and I had this experience and would definitely come back if a family member or friend wanted to make the trip. On my own accord? I know that after 2 years everyone is scrambling over each other to do stuff and this is about a cliché as it gets. Enjoy. *I'm also hesitant to write reviews for "unclaimed" businesses

Yelp
Stayed here at site 268 for 6 days and everything was great campsites were clean and staff were friendly and bathrooms were clean. This particular site was great but your options to set up are limited when tent camping as there is a layer of rock about 4 inches under the dirt so stakes won't go in all the way so I had only one stake in the ground at 3 others held down by rocks, but nothing too bad. Showers could use some updating but other than that it's a great stay. Campground is in perfect walking distance from the town store and the village and has paths off a few feet to the side of the road so your not waking on the street which is nice. Night skies are beautiful and really get a good view. Lots of wildlife that roam the campground so be careful of food and stuff but it's always a nice surprise to see elk passing through your campsite!

Yelp
My wife and I camped here for three nights. Super easy to get to and one of the few campgrounds actually INSIDE of the park at the South Rim. We made our reservation online six months in advance. It was incredibly easy. Check-in went very smooth with no issues at all. We even got there about 90 minutes early due to a GPS issue and they let us check-in and go to our site with no problems at all. The sites are all pull-through so you don't need to worry about backing into a tight space if you've got a big rig. The sites are also incredibly large. We have a fairly large 8' x 8' outdoor tent that we sit in outside and relax and eat inside . Plenty of room to put up the tent + the picnic table that is provided AND the fire pit. We visited from 09/11 to 09/14. It was very quiet, overall and the campground really wasn't busy at all. The bathrooms were quite clean and they were cleaned regularly. We were in the FIR LOOP and very close to the bathroom so it was incredibly convenient. But like most campgrounds, this ONE bathroom with just (3) stalls and (1) urinal was expected to withstand the use of multiple campers at several different sites. This was the weekend AFTER Labor Day and several open sites and it was STILL standing room only at certain times of the day in the bathroom. I'm not saying there should be one bathroom for every two camp sites, but damn - does 50 camp sites per bathroom seem at all realistic? Can't imagine what it would be like during peak season! To be fair, the idiots who have million-dollar motorhomes and multiple bathrooms in their rigs shouldn't be using the bathroom AT the campground, but for some reason - I guess they don't like shitting in their own toilet. In addition to one bathroom house being expected to sustain so many individuals, the sinks were clogged the whole time we were there. A little maintenance would have been cool. The only other gripe I had was Mather Campground's shower situation. According to their signage, they blamed it on COVID-19. So their shower house is only open from 6a to 12:45p. And again, it is ONE shower house meant to sustain HUNDREDS of campsites. My wife and I have a teardrop trailer with no bathroom (much less a shower) on board. We got up early the first day to hike part of the Bright Angel trail and of course, by the time we returned to the shower house - it was closed for the day. To the best of my knowledge, there is no mention of special shower hours on their website and planning a vacation around the hours of the shower house wasn't fun. To make matters even worse, when we showed up on time the second day to finally shower, we discovered it is a coin-operated shower and costs something like $2 per minute or something like that. I get it. You don't want some dude standing in the shower, sucking up all the hot water listening to the Diamondbacks game with his waterproof radio - but holy shit, sorry I didn't know I had to bring two rolls of quarters just so I could shower while camping. Again, I don't remember seeing this on their website nor is it in my e-mail reservation. My apologies if I missed this important info. All in all, we'd likely stay here again. Bring a few rolls of quarters. Plan our hiking schedule around the hours of the shower house. Other than that, very clean and recommended if you're camping at the north rim.

Yelp
I camped at Mather Campground for two nights during my visit to Grand Canyon National Park. It's a beautiful campground with lots of trees. My site (Fir Loop 106) fit one tent and one car and cost about $18/night. Each site has a table, benches, and fire ring. The ground was a little hard to stake down my tent, even with rocks as a hammer, but I found a spot under the tree with looser soil. I also used larger rocks to keep it down. The site was clean and spacious, but it was near the bathrooms so you hear doors closing and the hand dryer going off. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my stay. It was pretty peaceful and the stars at night are beautiful! It is very easy to navigate the park. You can leave your car at your campsite and use the shuttle to get around. As in any outdoor space, there are animals roaming around, but I didn't run into any while camping. Campground services is not too far away. It's right by the registration building. They have paid showers ($2.50 for five minutes) and laundry. Operating hours is from 8am-4pm and it is cleaned every day. There is a machine that exchanges coins. Mather Campground is the only tent campground inside the park, in the South Rim, not including the RV campground. (Desert View Campground is 23 miles away). There are about 300 sites. There are also backcountry camping options.

Yelp
Holy cow. One of the best campgrounds we've stayed at. Beautiful, big sites with bathrooms very close by. Lots of wildlife, including elk, deer and rabbits that just hang around. We ate our dinner with a group of elk nearby. It was truly incredible! The sites are well taken care of, the camp general store is the best I've ever seen and there is a post office as well as bank right next to it. I loved how close the campground was to the rim and we visited multiple times! It was a wonderful stay at Mather. I would highly recommend this spot!!

Yelp
Location: We had campsite #62 and it was a great location. It had both shade and sun with trees, the bathroom was located across the little road (not far) with flushing toilets with toilet paper well stocked, hand-soap, sink, air dryer and a kitchen sink in the back to rinse out dishes. Very clean! I would definitely grab this spot again in the future. Ambiance: Each site had a picnic table/bench and fire pit. We had tagged along on another family's vacation, so we shared the site (4 adults, 3 kids and 2 cars) and it was perfect. It was very quiet and everyone was respectful. No loud parties, babies crying or dogs barking while we were there. Ranger program: We signed the kids up for this and they were given an activity booked (age-based) and then we also bought a passport (sold at the gift shop) so that we can get stamps for all the national parks that we visit. Very education for the kids and they love accumulating stamps! Rangers were super nice and great with kids.

Yelp
Great campsite! My trip was in the beginning of April, and the weather was great! 30-50s, but it was sunny most of the day. It snowed too!! As a native Californian, That was very exciting. There are firepits and benches at every site, which is really great. Pros: The bathrooms are very well maintained, and cleaned daily! This was great. It wasn't too crowded, and in the morning and at nights I had the bathroom all to myself. The campsites itself are pretty nice. They are flat with not too much debris, and there is ample tree coverage. The General Store is stocked with all the food items you could ever need, so if you forget something done even worry about it. You might pay a bit of a premium, but that's to be expected. By the visitors center, there's even a little coffee shop you can spend time in the morning. Cons: If you go during a busy time during spring break, most likely it'll be pretty crowded. We slept next to a family with screaming children, and it kept us up throughout the night. Just be cautious of who your neighbors are. There was it was $30 entrance fee to the grounds, besides the campsite fee. Overall, great camping experience. There is some beautiful sights to see along the bike trail, and great hikes down the canyon!! Would recommend it.

Yelp
This place is really awesome. They have showers and laundry and it's very inexpensive to camp here only about $20 for a single car site. It was very quiet. There's a grill at every campsite. There are some great views to the stars at night and it's kind of cool to just relax by a campfire and be totally immersed in nature surrounded by trees. We made reservations in advance just to make sure that we were able to get a site as we heard that the site fills up during peak season. We didn't go during peak season but it was nice to be able to just show up and not have to fill out any paperwork or exchange money. I would suggest making reservations in advance if you're going to go during peak season. The check in was easy and quick & was a very pleasant experience overall. The campground isn't far from the store and the showers are pretty clean and inexpensive. There is also a laundry and RV dump/fill station as well.

Yelp
This was my favorite campground overall out of the three we stayed at this past week simply because it felt the most like camping. We stayed for 2 nights in site #240. It was a super large space near the bathroom. Lots of trees and shade and we saw lots of wildlife walking through our site! Mather campground is located right in the midst of the market plaza and super close to the village as well so getting to main points of south rim is really simple. We brought our dogs so unfortunately couldn't use the bus system so we drove instead. The bathroom was clean. Not sure about the showers because we didn't use them. For $18 a night this is a steal compared to the hefty prices some other campgrounds/national parks charge! The market plaza store charges $7.20 for a bundle with 4 pieces of wood. We bought 2 per night and chopped it into multiple pieces to make it last for a nice fire. Other than the expensive wood, the store seemed to have regular grocery store prices.

Yelp
Campsite #80 Our campsite was HUGE. It could probably fit 10 tents! So for 2 of us, we had a lot of extra space. Mather is reservations during peak seasons only. Check in at 12 and check out at 11. Be respectful to others and take the tag off when checking out and give it to the front so they know you're out and the next can check in. Bathrooms were one of the cleanest campground bathrooms ever. We didn't use the shower so I can't write about that. No soap, so bring your own. Toilet paper is always stocked. Watch out for some high maintenance Kim Kardashian wannabes. Somehow I always got stuck bathroom time (night and morning!) when they were putting on a pound of makeup, curly their hair and spraying perfume... Yes seriously?! Who does that when tent camping?! I also peaked over their campground and whaddayouknow it, LV luggages. Damn, if you were high rolling it the Grand Canyon, book a hotel, unless it's all for show... Campsite is close to the shuttle. Good amount of sunlight (and you need it). We camped in March, high 60s to mid in the day time and freezing ass cold at night! It got as low as 27 degrees, so be prepared!! We left some water out and it froze the top layer. Pretty cool. Lots of trees for hammocks. Just be sure to take it down when you're not using it. We got a warning because we are first time hammock owners and didn't realize that animals can get stuck. Sorry! At night time I heard a pack of coyotes, but they were only there for about a minute and left. A downside about our campsite was the main road was near by... So in the darkest of the night sometimes a car would drive by... Ruins the camp feeling for about 5 seconds. Also, neighbors are pretty close, no privacy. Other than that, great campsite! We would come back.

Yelp
We are amateur campers and this campground is a perfect location for us. Setting in beautiful pine trees, located in very convenient area near the bus line, few minutes from the supermarket & deli, post office and chase bank. It's very clean campground, running water, clean bathrooms and dumpsters nearby. We definitely will come back here again in the near future when the weather is a bit warmer. Thank you Mather campground and see you soon!

Yelp
We stayed two nights in Oak Loop Site 251 for 4th of July in 2019. The campground was nice. There was plenty of foliage to provide privacy between us and our neighbors. Our site was very close to the bathroom. At night the lights coming on and the sound from the hand dryers could bother light sleepers. My kids loved seeing the Elk and Mule Deer that visited our campground. The park rangers have free evening programs nearby.
google avatar

Mara S.

Yelp
The campground was limited to just one loop because of winter. The campsite are all smushed together because I'm sure it's quite popular in the summer, so I did appreciate that I was able to get one without a reservation. It was snowy while I was there.... in fact it was -2 the night I camped, brrrrr, but the snow removal honestly was what made this tricky. Plows came through, but it just made a lot of the campsites inaccessible to my little Prius that usually could. Little Prius could NOT with the snow mounds. It took a while before I found an unoccupied site that I could actually drive into. I also was a little bummed that the camper services were not included with the campsite fee. That was something I'm not used to with campsites, but the fees were no exorbitant.

Yelp
I'm a fan of this campground. Coming here was also my first time in Grand Canyon and this campground is actually in the village so you're able to take the bus to the actual Grand Canyon area by walking out to the bus stop. There's also a convenience store located within walking distance of this place. Overall I'd recommend staying here for your Grand Canyon campground needs! It's also very affordable to camp. I believe it was $18/night for a tent only spot. Advice - book in advance definitely! If you are eyeing this campground and it's all full, keep checking back. we were looking to book a slightly last minute Labor Day weekend camping trip and ended up getting a spot 3 or 4 days out. The spots open up when someone cancel which could happen at any time so keep your eyes peeled and don't lose hope if you can't find a spot! 5/5 on staff - check-in process was extremely painless and quick. They were very informative and nice and we even were allowed at our campground early. 5/5 - bathrooms were very clean and they had hand soap, paper towels, etc. the toilets are flushable and there's an outside sink to wash dishes. Bring your own dish soap! They have hand soap but not dish soap. Can't speak to the showers as we only stayed one night. 5/5 overall atmosphere - it was relaxed and everyone was pretty friendly. We heard music bumping but I honestly did not find it disrupting. There is quiet time I believe at 10pm but I don't remember hearing the music past that point.

Yelp
We stayed here 3 years ago and enjoyed it so much we came back with a group of friends this spring. We were a group of 8 (4 tents) and rented 2 sites. Spacious beautiful sites with bathrooms just about 50 steps in any direction (clean and stocked with tp and hand soap). There's so much wild life here walking around and plenty of trees for shade and hammock hanging, extremely peaceful! The general store is about a less than 10 mns walk from the campground. Shuttles stops are pretty close and will take you all around the park free of charge, but no dogs allowed. We brought our dog this year and biked & hiked along the rim trail near Mather point, but no dogs are allowed below the rim. We used the kennel facilities the next day for the big hike ($22 for the day) and although our dog was a bit unsure because it was her first time in a kennel of this type, Eric the attendant was really nice and friendly and we trusted our dog was in good hands. I would give the campsite 5 stars but I have to knock one for the showers. They seemed a little rundown this time and in need of a renovation. Showers are $2 per 8 mins, no shampoo/body wash (like Yosemite's campground) but the shower attendant was a very sweet lady and she'll give you towels free of charge although we always bring our own. The campground is very peaceful at night with incredible stargazing views! I was also impressed at how clean the sites were when we first arrived (no trash left behind like plastic forks and bottle caps etc from the last guest). We definitely recommend staying here for tent camping when visiting Grand Canyon.

Yelp
Got lucky to secure a group campsite inside the Grand Canyon! This campground is in a prime location... close to shuttle stops and most importantly, the market (seriously as big as your neighborhood grocery store, rather unusual for a national park to have such variety). The group site is beautiful. The fire rings are surrounded by log benches so you already have that built in seating. Spacious site, we only took one 10P tent but our neighbors were an entire Boy Scout Troop from Indiana and they seriously had about 30+ 2P and 3P tents scattered among 2 group sites and there was still plenty of room to spare. There are coin-op showers here. Flush toilets and sinks. Blue posts water spots for drinking water... and the best part? WILDLIFE! Elks are just casually roaming around the campgrounds. They are huge and beautiful! But beware of the ravens... put your things away in a hard shell container or cover anything shiny / flashy, and put away your food inside the tent, in your car, in the cooler... just put it away. I'm used to camping in areas where they have bear boxes but they don't have that problem here, just ravens. So unless you want your chips and snacks and even playing cards devoured by ravens, put them away. LOL. We'll be back again if we get lucky enough to score another campsite here. Always a good time!

Yelp
This is by far the greatest campsite I have ever stayed at. For less than $20 you get a quaint campsite. Very tidy with spectacularly clean restrooms with zero stench and a shower facility where you can shower for 5 minutes for only $2.50. The rangers and staff are very respectful and I would highly recommend this for you next camping experience. Gets cool at night (I visited Columbus Day weekend) but what do you expect in desert land. It is a five to ten minute drive to start exploring the wonderful Grand Canyon! I accidentally booked a group campsite and they were able to make sure that I got a partial refund for the online confusion.

Yelp
Beautiful campground!! There are mule deer and elk EVERYWHERE. It felt like we were truly in nature, not in a campground. They just opened the showers back up so that was great too. It's within walking distance to the general store and a bank.

Yelp
This was our first visit to Mather Campground and were very happy with our decision. Made reservations for three nights during fall break (recreation.gov - probably two months in advance) and by the time our trip came, the campground was full every night. Reservations are required during peak season (spring thru Nov 30th) but the campground is open year long. We reserved site #309. Trying to reserve a spacious and semi-private site from only two blurry photos online always cause undue stress, but my choice proved to be good enough. Our site had enough room for 4 tents, decent fire pit, a good amount of trees with many choices on where to hang my hammock, tons of shade, and was an easy walk to the restrooms and water. The only downside was the amount of rocks on our site...there were so many large rocks laid into the ground around our fire pit and picnic table. Be warned, if you are camping in the winter, these will be icy. Our site was located in the Pine Loop which is tent only and no generators, yet there were still a couple of campers during our stay. Handicapped sites are plentiful. In our loop, I don't think you could go wrong with any choice of site. I believe #304 was the most spacious of them all. Walking/biking trails are accessible from the campground and there is a shuttle stop right outside the entrance. Firewood and just about anything else you want is sold at the market which is a quick drive down the road. Restrooms are the cleanest that I have come across in any campground, although another yelper mentioned that you may have to fight for space because there are girls all set up doing their hair and makeup - it's so true! Can't speak for the showers since we didn't use them. All in all, it was a wonderful trip. Check in at noon, check out at 11am. Quiet hours are from 10pm-6am although you will probably hear many of your neighbors rising early to see the sun rise over the canyon. While you are here, be sure to check out the visitor center and if you are camping with kids, take them to get their Junior Ranger books and badges. Happy camping!

Yelp
Camped here in October, prices per day are $18 per car which is totally reasonable. Restrooms are only 4 or 5 sites away from each other. The showers and laundry are both located at the entrance of the camp site and there is only one for the entire campground (which you have to pay for in quarters, I believe it was $1.25 or $1.50). The site was quiet and very clean. They also had a local grocery/convenient store where they sold firewood (they don't sell any at the actual campsite) and plenty of others good, including souvenirs! ALSO, very important, this camp site is located less than 5 min away from a very short and beautiful hike to the edge of the Grand Canyon. I would definitely camp out here again.

Yelp
Best campground for the money $18 a night big sites could have put 3 tents or more and still would have room to spare Right near village, market and right on the south rim.

Yelp
Mather Campground is what's up. I made reservations online for early April. $18 a night at site 240, the Oak Loop. We were near the restrooms. Easy check-in, easy check out. Neighboring campers aren't super close and there is plenty of space to place tents. The shower stalls are $2 for 8 minutes. A cashier is available for change and soap. There aren't cabinets to store food, so keep it in your car, tent, or locked up. The ravens are sneaky little buggers. They even put holes in our plastic gallons of water. Smart birds! There are 4 stalls in the women's restrooms. As well as outlets, 2 mirrors, and an air hand dryer. Bring your own soap. I camped Tues-Fri and this place is QUIET. I'm used to camping where people are up drinking, socializing, etc until later. We found ourselves to be the only campers up as early as 8pm. Crazy! The End.

Yelp
I would like to say I have camped in every possible condition. No I wouldn't ... there is no limit to the places I would still like to camp. That being said, camping at Mather Campground was a uniquely pleasant surprise. Why? With the Grand Canyon being one of the most visited tourist spots in the world and June being one of their busiest months I expected the campground to be expensive, noisy and like sleeping in a Walmart parking lot. The first surprise was how ridiculously cheap it is to camp there. At $18 it was less than any other campground I can think of in recent memory. Their online map gives the impression that it is sparsely vegetated and that there is zero privacy so I was pleasantly surprised that from our site we could just barely see only one other tent - it was like camping alone out in the middle of the forest, and I should mention that every site in the campground was sold out. The few other campers who were anywhere near the vicinity of our tent were quiet and respectful of their fellow campers. At night the entire campground was dead silent. The site itself was natural but clean. There were NO huge rolling Motel 6's (RV's) anywhere to be seen; the largest I saw was about the size of a UPS truck. Here are the added bonuses: the restrooms were clean with running water and on the access road nearby but NOT in the camping area itself, which means you couldn't see (or smell) them from the campsite. And they were not lit up like Times Square on New Year's Eve (why do some campgrounds do that?) There is a free shuttle bus that will take you anywhere in Grand Canyon Village within easy walking distance but far enough that you don't see, hear or smell the buses. There is one laundry/shower building nearby but not close enough that you can see, hear or smell it. The showers have hot water and cost a reasonable $2 for a reasonable 8 minutes. A couple of hints: they don't have food lockers so be sure your food is securely wrapped and stowed in your vehicle to avoid being ransacked by animals. When you're out exploring be sure your rain cover is on your tent and the windows closed (we returned to have everything covered with a layer of dirt). And if you have any ropes or lines, like a hammock or tent tie ropes, remove them before you go off exploring. They can trap the deer and injure them, and probably ruin your gear. I attached a picture of our site, check it out.

Yelp
This place could go one of two ways depending on your idea of camping and what does or does not make it enjoyable. I myself am no queen. I like to rough it. I like to get dirty. Fend for myself. Use sticks to start fires. Kill shit. etc, so when I got here, I was expecting to do just that, but thats not what happened at all.. Much to my surprise, its literally a 3 minute walk away from a general store and a cafe. There is a laundromat, showers(paid, $2.00 for 8 minutes, quarters only), toilets, sinks, drinking fountains, garbage cans, a post office and a CHASE BANK all within a 1-5 minute walk. Its like any normal day except you sleep outside and wake up next to gnarly spiders. Now by no means am I saying I hated all these sweet amenities and I absolutely will not complain about the most delicious shower I took after my 6 mile hike, but to me, this isn't REAL camping. Nonetheless, I had a fantastic time and wouldn't change one second of it... The grounds are shady and clean, each lot has its own picnic table and fire pit with a grill on top and they are nicely spaced out. There are lots for mobile homes(generators are allowed only between certain hours), there are also lots that mobile homes are not permitted for those of us who don't enjoy the humming noise. Dogs are allowed on a leash. of course and there is plenty of wildlife cruising around the grounds, all around $18/day. Whatever way you like to camp, you can do it here.. all the amenities are easily ignorable if you want and the walk to the rim is only about 10 minutes. First Grand Canyon trip was fantastic.. photos don't do it ANY justice!

Yelp
I was able to plan just 2 weeks before the trip occurred in spring time. This is the only South Rim campsite you can reserve, the other @ Desert view is 1st come 1st serve only. The reservation page doesn't have pictures that lets you see the individual site. Some sites allow 1+ car park, so pay attention to the details of individual camp sites when you reserve. All has a picnic table and a fire pit with a grill top. We spent 3 nights and booked 2 tent-only sites since they ran out of sites that could accommodate 3 nights. You pay $25 entrance fee that is good for 7 days. Must call the campground if you arrive later than 7pm. The campground check in and check out process is super simple - just have to return the campsite card and the clip to the info center when you leave. Overflow lot @ the shower/laundry site: we parked here between moving our camping sites, so we are able to continue with our activities without too much interruption. Blue route bus shuttle: Nearby, there are dirt/rock routes to navigate to and from the bus stop, so you don't have to share the road with the cars. Overall: I am not one who will go backpacking, and this campsite is clean, well maintained, and meets the basic needs. At the end, I was a happy camper @ Mather! Animal visitors: we heard and saw woodpeckers, owls, and crows. But didn't see any elks/deers throughout our stay, maybe it is still too cold? There was posted warnings of Javelina packs...No particular annoying flying bugs of sorts. Forgot or ran out of something? There is a general store that has a rental and you can pick up gear, food, firewood, etc. for really reasonable prices! Noise: The campsite was full when we were there, but we didn't experience problematic noise. Campsite characteristics: Our 1st site has a good distance between other neighbor sites. However, our 2nd site, while it has more trees, the fire pit is pretty close to the neighboring site's fire pit, so we heard other's music and conversations. I visited 3 of the bathrooms since we moved twice during our stay. They all have a sink opposite side of the bathroom doors in the back so you can rinse anything like food, dishes, etc. They are cleaned, have toilet paper. Installed motion sensors that control the lights will beep to let you know the light's about to turn off. The hand dryer is super strong, if you'd like to it can dry long hair too. There is a hose nearby to rinse anything else off. Shower/Laundry: near the info check-in/check-out center. I packed without expecting to use their showers. After our strenuous hike, it felt just too bad not to have a shower. So I brought just a thin towel, change of clothes, and some money. During office hours, they will help you get change of quarters, or there's a change machine. Shower: Even though it's $2 for 8 minutes, the shower continues to run a bit after the time is over. I have long hair and it was plenty of time. Water temperature and pressure is good. There is soap that was good for shower and a shampoo, and it didn't dry out my hair/skin at all. Drying my hair was easy as they have hair dryers and mirrors inside. If you want a longer shower, just wait till the water is off to insert 8 quarters again. I didn't use their laundry machines, but they have a vending machine that sells detergent and such. There is also wifi inside!!!! Welcome to civilization.

Yelp
I've gone camping a handful of times in Arizona and this is BY FAR my favorite campground. The campground was well-maintained with CLEAN BATHROOMS (a blessing). The location is stellar, with quick access to several viewing points of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The best part? Waking up from a nap and seeing both a cow and bull elk frolicking and doing their mating ritual within FIVE FEET of my tent (see pictures - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/1iJIce3-oGIcVeCw8ovBQA?userid=_jjbwHWLFA5GjWFWGLj4ZQ#i6jPgFE8buxSm5ao40XNhg). *An aside - Yes, I was scared... the bull could have charged me at any time, but I remained calm and still. The second best part? Waking up the next day and seeing another young bull elk bathing himself right in front of my tent. I will definitely be returning to this campground soon - perhaps once there is snow on the ground for a new experience. FANTASTIC! HIGHLY recommend.

Yelp
We reserved our campsite 2 weeks in advance before our camping trip in late October. Our site was #250 in the Oak Loop. We were nearby the restrooms but not too close. Our loop wasn't too busy. We did have a couple next to us but they kept to themselves. Everyone else in our loop were spaced out. We didn't use the showers or the laundry area which is located at the entrance of the campgrounds. The rangers were really nice & helpful though when we checked in and out. We had two bucks walk by our site the day we left which was pretty cool. They didn't pay much attention to us and kept walking though the campsite. If we go back to Grand Canyon we'll definitely stay at Mather again. We'll probably check out a different loop though away from the main road noise.

Yelp
At $18 per night, what a deal! In California most of our campgrounds are around $30 per night. We saved so much money not getting a hotel room. I was surprised that there were trees at the campsite. We stayed in the Pine Loop site 311. I agree with other Yelpers that the bathrooms felt kind of far, but I made with what I had. Showers were a little bit strange. $2 for 8 mins of hot water. Just wish I had the option of shorter minutes than paying so much. I'm glad that they had the person to make change if needed. We didn't have to use the laundry mat, because we didn't know it existed. It is true about the crows, those guys are sneaky. I witnessed a crew of crows tear apart our neighbors garbage bag. I laughed at their stupidity of not cleaning up their camp. Ranger station has a flyer about putting your food and trash away from the crows. This is car camping and yes it is easy camping. I noticed some more people were bugged by this. But dude this is located at the Grand Canyon for people all over the world to enjoy. Yes it's going to be a little on the nice side. And that's fine with me.

Yelp
Stayed here before and after backpacking rim to rim to rim in the thanksgiving week. Because it is Nov, there were not many people. However, I was impressed that the restroom was working as usual and light was on all night. Unless it was not frozen, even drinking water was available at some portion (not all spiget). Camp host was friendly. Just sooooo cold (about -5C in the morning).

Yelp
The check in process was so easy. We arrived around 3:30 in the afternoon and the staff working was so pleasant. They gave us a map of the campsite and directions to our site. The campsite was clean and spacious. We had more than enough room and a big enough distance from other campers. We loved waking up to deer roaming around the site. It was an amazing experience overall. The weather was amazing it did not feel hot all in the campsite.

Yelp
Went here Memorial Day weekend. The first 2 reviewers are pretty spot-on with the description. It really is less than a 5 minute walk to the general store and cafe. There are a few restrooms in the campground with toilets, sinks, mirrors, and trashcans. There are numerous trash bins as well. I was appreciative of the hot showers (same building as laundromat). I didn't have $2 in quarters for my 8 minute shower, but the staffer inside helped change my bills. The showers are nice and hot and have good water pressure. There's a nice fire pit and picnic table at each campsite and enough room for 2-3 tents. There's lots of trees to provide shade. The annoying ravens woke everyone up early, so don't expect to sleep in. The campground is relatively close to the canyon rim, but you wouldn't know looking out from the campsite. I didn't feel like I was in Grand Canyon, but overall I had a good time.

Yelp
Great campground. Tent spot are a good size and include a fire ring with grill top and a picnic table. Only bummer was showers are $2.50 and we didn't bring any cash - totally our bad. Learn from our mistake and take some cash ;) Pro tip: camp here the night before you go to the canyon and get to the canyon as early as you can. We walked the south rim trail starting at Mather point at about 7:30 am. Had the trail pretty much to ourselves and even had breakfast in Grand Canyon Village before people started pouring into the park.

Yelp
My family and I camped here for two nights over Fourth of July weekend and it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! We will be recommending this spot to everyone and hopefully one day we will return. The campground is at a perfect location. It is near the grocery store and bank and walking distance to the 'bus' stop. When you check-in, you are warned about the ravens. Please take this warning seriously. While we were there, we saw a couple campsites get their garbage bags and Styrofoam coolers shredded because they were left out. So please please please take that seriously- it not only ruins your campsite but also attracts the birds to the area. The store is perfect for any last minute items you might need and there is a Chase bank and ATM right next door as well. Right down the path there is the bus stop to get to the Grand Canyon stops. Get there early- you might need to wait a bit because the buses will be filled especially in the morning but be patient!!! We saw some beautiful wildlife while staying at the campground. The rangers were super friendly and always waving. One of the friendliest campsite with our neighbors, it was such a wonderful experience!!!

Yelp
Mather campground has everything you would look for when tent camping. The campground is in the park, see you will have to pay the entrance fee. We arrived after dark but were able to get into the park by paying with credit. If you're going to arrive more than 24 hours after your reservation, they recommend you leave a voicemail. We checked in at the ranger station, and they had our list on the name of late checkins. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit with grate They even have actual flushing toilets and hand dryers. If you need a shower, you can pay by coin. The campground includes a shuttle stop that will take you to the various trails. You can book reservations in advance and look at the map to see which sites you would prefer. It's an affordable way to visit the park if you're looking for immersion into nature.

Yelp
By far one of the best campgrounds Sites are clean, the staff is courteous. We saw the Rangers cruising around several time checking on things. The restrooms are flush toilets with two sinks of running water and a couple of electrical outlets. Behind the restroom is running water to wash dishes The only negative is the either clueless or rude campers that walk thru your campsite. Adults - no excuses, but teach you children some common etiquette. Pine loop has new concrete picnic tables.

Yelp
Drove up to arizona for spring break with my boyfriend and we decided on this campground. The campground itself is clean and the staff is very friendly. The bathrooms closest to us were closed, not sure why do it was a hassle to keep walking/driving to the bathroom, ESPECIALLY at night. The women's bathrooms were clean as well as the showers. My boyfriend complained of his bathrooms smelling like pure urine but luckily for me, mine were clean lol. There were elk all over the campground hanging out and eating and they get super close to people which was sweet because they're clearly very trusting. Only down side of this was the lights out time for us. Super quiet around us around 9pm. We still stayed up late around the fire but if you're looking to be louder or have music on, not the best campground. Overall we still had a great time camping and enjoyed it very much, I think even more than seeing the Grand Canyon itself!
