This place is amazing! They greeted us right when we pulled up, super friendly , got us checked in very quickly followed with a nice tequila shot in the lobby, then showed us our rooms and let me tell you! These rooms are super nice and clean. Good size and very comfortable beds. I highly recommended this place to stay. The tequila tour was very fun and informative.

Google
TERRIBLE. Booked hotel in November 2024 to stay Valentine's Day weekend in February 2025. Hotel sends an email one week before our stay to cancel all 3 room bookings (6 people total). They could not find another hotel for us to stay in and offered refund. It's been almost 2 weeks now and I still have not received my refund. One party who did receive their refund was short $32 dollars. I was really looking forward to the hotel and wow... just such a disappointment.

We absolutely loved our stay here! It is such a unique property, and we had a great experience from the time we checked in until we left. We stayed two nights here, and it was perfect. They welcomed us with complimentary tequila shots and bottles of water at check in. The rooms were comfortable, with air conditioning, comfortable beds, and private bathrooms. Everything was very clean, and the property felt very safe. It’s about 10 minutes from the town by taxi, but there is a gate with guards that you go through to enter and exit. It was very quiet and we felt safe here. The property was beautiful! We booked directly through the hotel, and had no issues. Our stay came with complimentary breakfast both days (which was really good), a tour of their distillery (which we very much enjoyed), tequila tasting, and unlimited tequila shots offered in the lobby. We checked out their pool too which was really nice and refreshing, and even had a poolside bar. They have a restaurant in a cave on their property that we had dinner at one night, and service was a little slow, but the food was incredible! The staff was very friendly and helpful when we needed help getting taxis. Would definitely come back and stay here!

A fantastic stay in Tequila in the unique room concept in the barrel! Really well done with beautiful touches and they are so spacious and clean. A fun addition to our trip and we enjoyed the tequila tour & tasting.

WARNING - HOTEL IS CLOSED. Terrible experience with this hotel. We were booked to check in March 1st and were told on February 26th that they were closed due to the municipality. This was a huge letdown as the only reason we were staying overnight in Tequila after our tour was to stay here. Based on other reviews they’ve been closed for at least a few weeks. They also refused to refund my credit card instead insisting on an international bank transfer.

HOTEL CLOSED & HIDDEN FEES – READ UNTIL THE END!! First of all, I booked a night at this hotel on January 12, 2025, for $430 CAD per night. The moment I clicked on "Reserve," a drop-down menu suddenly revealed an additional $269 in hidden fees, after my booking had already been confirmed. That brought my total to $689 for ONE night! I immediately called to cancel my reservation, as I was insulted by this deceptive pricing. The cancellation fee? $540—just to cancel a stay for February 9, 2025! (When I called, I was redirected to a generic call center managing multiple hotels.) Despite this frustrating experience, I was still excited about my trip, especially since La Cofradía offers free tours of their facilities. I thought, "I’ll go in good spirits and have an amazing time." So, I carefully planned a customized itinerary, departing from Mexico City and stopping in Querétaro and Guanajuato before finally arriving in Tequila—only to find out that the hotel was CLOSED. The hotel had been shut down by the municipality for over a month—long before I even made my reservation. And the worst part? I was NEVER informed. No email, no phone call—nothing. I lost an entire vacation day because of their complete lack of communication. In today’s world, we all know how precious vacation time is. When I arrived, I found a barricaded entrance and a man standing at the door. He sincerely apologized and promised that someone would call me. Three days later, I never received a single call. I've been in the tourism industry since 2011, and I have NEVER seen anything like this. This is how you ruin your reputation and destroy your business.

Google
This unique hotel provides unlimited Tequila to their guests. Breakfast and a tour of the distillery which is pretty artesanal. The cave restaurant is very cool, as well as their food and 1L Margaritas. The whole property has ducks everywhere because it was their original habitat before they built the hotel. Don’t hesitate on booking directly! Other places will have the price without the tour, breakfast or taxes. They will provide you with a contact for transportation and secure in/out to move between the town. Enjoy the town!

Google
The property seemed safe, there was a security gate and guard dog. The rooms were clean, the water from the sink/toilet/shower were turbid, the beds were stiff. The service throughout the entire property was terrible, from the check in to the restaurant. The food at the restaurant was good and that kind of made up for the extremely slow service. While I was there I signed up for a bottle painting activity, which they only ship within MX and they have not replied to me after two weeks to confirm shipping so we’ll see how that goes 🙃 good luck if you’re planning to stay there… Heads up, if you book on Expedia the hotel does NOT honor the complimentary breakfast. They offer complimentary tequila at the front desk, but make sure to ask for it, as it is not communicated upfront at check in! Plan additional commute time since the roads leading to the hotel are very bumpy.

Yelp
Such an amazing tour of the distillery. Our guide was amazing and very knowledgeable. The tour was in Spanish and 2 in our group only knew English so the guide was nice enough to share his knowledge in English after finishing in Spanish. Tequila is so delicious. The cave is awesome and they had great prices on the bottles. I bought an amazing Agave Syrup that taste great with my tequila old fashioneds. Tour was included with our stay at La Barica.

Yelp
PICTURES DO NO JUSTICE. We've stayed here a few times and always pick a barrel as our room. This is a great place for couples, room is very spacious. Very detailed to each Individual name, inside it has a wall painting according to the name of the suite/room. Staff truly goes above and beyond and food is delish. If you are looking at this place through a third party, please stop and contact them directly. You get more for your buck. You get breakfast vouchers as well as a cute thank you gift at the end of your stay as well as a tequila tour and tequila tasting. PROS: Covid: masks require at lobby, as you drive in they check your temperature, however rooms are very spacious that you stay to yourself. Staff: 5+ star. Edward and Pablo were the ones who took care of us and were a delight! Made you feel at home and like family. Food: Delish Views: breathtaking Price: average/ you get what you pay for Tour: very detailed Tasting: very detailed CONS: Wished I can stay longer

Yelp
After a 4 day 3 night stay in at this hotel I was quite disappointed in the amenities. While the place is gorgeous, great pictures can be taken here and the esthetic is on point there isn't much else to rave about. Their tequila tour and tasting is very similar to all the other ones around. The service in the restaurants was horrible each time we went to eat. Food took forever to come out with several mistakes and them not putting in orders for the whole table. While I understand we were a group of 6, we always ordered straight from the menu without modifications and they just had so many issues. Additionally many of us had no hot water in our rooms and were charged for "dirty" towels upon check out. Overall it was beautiful but not worth the hassle of staying their.

Yelp
We were not 100% sure to travel because of COVID, but I'm telling you, IT WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!!! They have a whole new protocol to enter the facilities, everything clean, eco-friendly, and without losing its rustic touch !! My mom, my uncle and I stayed at this wonderful hotel, and we just LOVE THE CONCEPT OF BARRELS! IT'S UNIQUE!!! We were supposed to check in at 8pm, but we spoke to the concierge to see if they could received us later, they waited for us until 12 in the night!! He even explained how everything work, the tour, the restaurant, great customer service!! Since we booked just one day before traveling, it was a bit expensive, but it's 100% WORTH IT!! When you stay here they include the tour and unique tequila tasting !! There was a very nice guy named Afredain at the reception of the tours, we thought we had missed the tour because we were a little late, but he helped us and took us to where the tour had already started. And our tour guide Saúl, he was just something from another world !! Super friendly, funny and professional, you can see that he loves and knows about his work, he made my mom love tequila when she couldn't stand it We even ended up buying 20 bottles at the boutique with Jazmín, who also got us a unique book on the History of the Cofradia! We would have liked to spend more time to go to the underground restaurant, thanks to Saul, we got to see a bit of it and it looks just beautiful! Mini tip: if you have a car, when registering, do not forget to ask for the pendant that shows that you are staying, the security guy in the booth can be a bit "rude" in this regard. The free margarita that comes as a gift at the end of the tour is delicious !!!

Yelp
Amazing experience. We stayed at their new hotel; Matices de Barricas. The rooms resemble a tequila barrel and are very nice, independently decorated. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Our stay included; 24 hours shuttle to town. They take you and pick you up, a tour of their factory, and a tequila tasting. They gave us a tequila bottle to place tequila in, hand painted! And a paper mache figure of a jimador, an adorable and unique way to say thank you for staying. It also included breakfast. It was good but there are too many flies. In the rooms, as it can be expected in a rural area, were some bugs. In general, we enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be going back to the town of Tequila and this amazing hotel.

Yelp
Hacienda La Cofradia is a tequila distillery, boutique hotel, restaurant, event space, and art gallery all in one! The tour consisted of exploring all the aforementioned. And ours was free since our group of 14 purchased a good amount of bottles, and four people where hotel guests. Call ahead of time to schedule your tour and tasting. And don't forget to ask about any specials. (They were running a special: buy two bottles get one free.)

Yelp
Place is very nice tons of things to do and see walk around came in got sanitized right after going in the gate but check in is not organized had 2 other people check in before we did and we were waiting for a while before them also thought I check out the covers and bed and noticed there was hairs on the pillowand stains wtf!!! So I dont even think they change the sheets unless its needed young kid that takes you to the room is very nice and knowledgeable overall I don't think we will come back to this establishment too many little things wrong and not having a clean bed to sleep on thats just the worse floor is probably cleaner then the bed this place has potential ...for you to catch something only reason it got 2 stars is the nice kid

Yelp
We stayed in the barrels at the hotel for several nights and arranged to do several Of their activities. In addition to a standard, 2 hour distillery tour, their offerings include: Have you ever harvested an Agave? JIMA (harvest of agave) is one of the main activities in the process of making Tequila, and it's also the most artisanal. A tradition that has transcended through the years and that you're able to do as part of this Tequilera experience. Lets Ferment Experience the process of an open fermentation and learn how to watch and control the "must" in a real area of Tequila production. Distilling together Distillation is the part in Tequila process where must of "Aguamiel" becomes a spirit beverage, reaching high levels of alcohol content and where the precise cut of heads, body and tales determine the quality of well-done Tequilas. Make your own Tequila This activity is the stage of Tequila process that only few people know, it consists in filtration and oxygenation of hte spirit, the fian touch in production where the character of each brand is defined. Design your own bottle An exclusive activity of our pottery shop "Arte en Fuego" where you can customize your own Tequila bottle and decorate it according to your creativity. Horseback riding in agave fields Enjoy this tour on a horseback through the agave fields and fall in love with the peacefulness, the view and hospitality of the people. We did the distillery tour, agave harvest and make your own bottle. We planned to do the "Design your own bottle" too where you paint a ceramic bottle and they fire it for you. The end product is not ready for 1-2 weeks though and they cannot ship it to the US so we had to drop that activity from our itinerary . The distillery tour and jima tour was one of the best tours we experienced in Tequila. My husband and I are spirits and craft cocktail enthusiasts so we aren't your typical tourists at a distillery. The make your own bottle experience gave us face time with their master distiller, which is often hard to get, even for hard core spirits enthusiasts. We learned all about the chemistry and math around distillation and oxygenation. It is a Really special experience for Well traveled spirits connoisseurs. At the store where we were tasting products, we started talking to the owner and he gave us a small taste of his reserve barrel. It was a nice treat. He's passionate about his work and so is all the staff. Seymour was a fantastic guide and spoke amazing English. I can't speak highly enough about this tour.

Yelp
We took Superior Tours' Private Tour: Tequila Cultural Day Trip from Puerto Vallarta. Based on our date and time preferences, Astrid, with whom I booked the tour, recommended and reserved a private English language tour for us at La Cofradia. This is a beautiful property, including a bar/restaurant and hotel (there is an option to stay overnight-- which we did not) in addition to the distillery. We took a very informative and fun tour of the grounds, where we learned about the agave plant, the distilling process, how to drink tequila properly (legit!), and of course tasted several varieties. The most amazing part of the tour (aside from tasting the agave piña itself) was touring the facility where La Cofradia casts, fires, and hand paints the most beautiful bottles. They were so amazing we bought two (and some beautiful shot glasses) to display in our home as mementos of the trip. I would highly recommend visiting La Cofradia If you are in Puerto Vallarta or Guadalajara.

Yelp
I was here about 5 years ago with family and we got the whole tour of the tequila plant. My favorite part of the tour was the area where the sculptors create the hand made bottles for their products. The more expensive offerings are sculpted, molded, and baked all on site. I remember asking the guy giving us the tour if they were hiring for sculptors and he said that they were but that the gig did not pay much for someone like me. I did snap up 2 bottles of their Silver and Añejo bottles (they were running a buy 2 get 1 free special and I got a Gold bottle, too) and they were amazing. I also brought back several of their agave shaped shooter glasses and some of their agave pressed sheets of paper. I know "tradition" dictates that you use lime and salt and all that other dumb shit when drinking tequila but if it's quality tequila like La Cofradia then you're doing it wrong. This tequila is for sipping and savoring - slowly, so that you get every subtle character nuance it has to offer. Don't fuck it up with salt and lime - A great tequila stands on its own. I hope to go back soon.

Yelp
Make sure you check what they actually charge you for the room just got back to the states and checked my check my charges and they ended up charging me $60 more for the room than what I was told also make sure you don't get the tours at the hotel they try to charge you double the price just go down town for the tours overall the service and the hotel was not what I expected extremely underwhelmed with this hotel I suggest if you want to visit tequila just stay for the day and get a better hotel in Guadalajara for half the price

Martha P.

Yelp
Excellent place to visit. Been from California it remind me of Napa. The distillery tour was nice, the hotel rooms were cleaned and well stocked. Breakfast and dinner were good, and they probably have one of the best tequilas made in Mexico

Alexzander P.

Yelp
Horrible experience. Customer service was horrendous, the tour was not only boring but a waste of time and the workers were rude. We had reservations for a total of 10 and they did not want to honor our meal plans, canceled a city tour without telling us and tried to over charge. The ONLY good thing about this place was their WiFi. DO NOT STAY HERE! You're better off sleeping at the plaza with a blanket and a town dog. HORRIBLE PLACE. STAY AWAY
