Google
Very disappointed by this highly rated restaurant. Unlike most restaurants in Rome, the service was very rushed. We sat down, ate, and left within 1 hour. Asked the waiter which veal dish to order and he recommended the arrosto di vitella con patate (roast veal with potatoes). It was extremely bland. The cacio e pepe was pretty thick and much better elsewhere as were the fried zucchini flowers. The fried artichoke was very good.

Google
Spectacular food—easily some of the best we’ve had in Rome. In an area full of overpriced tourist traps serving inauthentic dishes, this place is a true gem. It came highly recommended by locals and friends alike, and it absolutely exceeded our expectations in every way.

We first dined here in 2010 and it was great to be back. The food and service excellent and their wine list is out of this world. They are also pet friendly, which is great for tourists like us traveling with their dog.

Google
It is a fine/ok restaurant. They are very strict about having a reservation well in advance, and the food was simply "ok" and may be worth the price depending upon the dish. For example, their "grilled lamb" consisted of grilled fatty rib bones with only 1-2oz of actual meat, certainly Not worth the 27 Euros. There are Plenty...and I mean Plenty... of other options in Rome to choose from with the same dishes and likely better quality. Go somewhere else and save your time and money.

Google
Conveniently located across our hotel we had no problem going there. Parking may be a problem for others. The pasta dishes were great but the thing that really made an impression was their lamb dish.

Google
Typical Roman tasty food with an amazing authentic environment (since 1957). Friendly staff. It’s better to reserve ahead.

Google

Google
Authentic Roman Restaurant. Amazing, the truffle pasta is to die for. We also had a dessert that had chocolate and cream, it looked like it had the profiterole dough as well. Just wow! Our server was very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Recommended by the hotel, which happened to be nearby. They told me this is not only by tourists but also locals' favorite. Reservation is necessary. We went there for a lunch after checking in the hotel. No table available,, but told the manager that we would wait. It took half hour wait time but we came back. I read it somewhere that good carnabora can be determined by how they cook pancetta. Should be crispy. Also the sauce was not watery. It was a great meal. So glad to have had a great meal. Service is great! We actually had carbonara at a different, also highly rated rea today but theirs carbonara was not as great as this place.

Yelp
So, my husband really wanted amatriciana and this spot came highly recommended near our hotel. We made a reservation (glad we did, it's a popular spot even though it's not right near the tourist attractions). The ambiance was good. Service was solid. Food was delicious. My only comment on the service was that they tried to sell us on a $200-$400 bottle of wine You don't need to spend that much for great Italian wine, so don't let them fool you. Worth a visit for sure!

Yelp
Bread - 6 Lacked air. Underproofed Random house wine - 4 poor service, bad legs, acidic nose Bagged breadsticks - 7 too bad they didn't make them 7 mins into service and still no water Extremely poor service Huge wine list but no som Coda - fat cap still attached, stringy, sauce is basically Campbells tomato soup Asked for water that never came Restaurant boasts 3 soms, after asking for a pairing I was immediately poured a shitty bottle of house wine reminiscent of shitty boxed wine.

Yelp
We are so fortunate that this restaurant was close to our Airbnb apartment. Both our hosts and friends had recommended this place and our visit was flawless! Our Airbnb host walked over to make our reservation and we were able to change it to 9.30pm for an inside table when spring showers were threatening our plans. The outside tables have a permanent covering so rain would not be a concern. Both offer white tablecloths and very impressive service. We split the fritto misto appetizer and it was plenty for the 4 of us. Wine list was Wine Spectator impressive and has an incredible selection with fair pricing for wine with older vintages that we do not see often in the States. Fresh pasta with cacio y pepe and one with a fresh marinara type sauce were both delicious. Often it is difficult in Rome to find fresh vegetables so the salad with dried fruit plus greens was welcome and again shareable size for 2 people. For dessert, our selection of gelato anglaise with added fresh strawberries was an amazing way to end our meal before strolling back to our nearby beautiful apartment. Service was very polite, patient with our Italian speaking skills and everyone there spoke English very well - grazie!

Yelp
Wonderful dining experience in Rome! Highly recommended by the locals. Make sure you pick up that phone and make reservations because you can't walk in anytime. Everything that we ordered from the truffle pasta to the steak to the tiramisu were delicious! Take note, the bread baskets and water are not free!

Yelp
In Rome, you really need a local to show you around. If you wander into any random restaurant--including ones highly rated on Yelp--there's a significant chance it's going to be extremely disappointing. I had a friend in Rome show me this place and it was so great I had to come back again before I left for home. From the baccala to various pastas, everything here is fantastic. They are apparently known for their Pasta alla Matriciana (hence the name) and I can report that it is very good! As is everything else!

Yelp
We've had a reservation since Sept 12th on Monday Sept 25th at 7:30pm. We showed up for dinner and expected to be greeted kindly. That wasn't the case. We showed them the time we had the reservation confirmed for via text. They refused to seat us and when we asked if they had any other tables that evening, they proceeded to escort us out.

Yelp
Everything is spot on, one of our favorite spots in Rome. Great service, fairly priced and great wine selection

Yelp
Food was bland and overcooked. The pizza was outstanding though! Get the pizza. The spicy salami pizza is amazing!

Yelp
This was hands down our best meal in Rome. I was there for a week for work and another 3 days for a vacation, and I sampled a *lot* of the food. I hunted out what Yelp said was best - but a recommendation from a coworker who did his research ended up being the top spot. We had their Gnocchi alla Romana - Gnocchi made with semolina flour the way it was made before they had new world ingredients...it was absolutely amazing. Melted in your mouth with such a density of creamy flavor. That was our favorite dish in Rome. Our SECOND favorite dish in Rome, at the same restaurant, was their Arrabiata. The pasta was cooked perfectly with great fresh tomato flavor and a delicious spice level. If you have time to hit one spot in Rome, hit this one.

Yelp
Went there twice on the last trip. We were fortunate to have the same server both times. They must have hundreds of customers there in a week, but she remembered us and my dietary restrictions. We sat in the room to the right as you walk in, so can't comment on the other spaces. There is a least one other room and an outdoor patio. Chairs only, no banquettes. Teensy complaint - I loathe unisex bathrooms. The name is derived from their specialty dish, bucatini all'amatriciana (€12). I had it both times. My dining companion tried the gnocchi alla Romana (€12), fettuccine alla Romana (€12) and bucce di patate fritte (€6). I ordered a small side salad; they brought out a salad so big that we could barely finish it between the two of us. The bread basket was the living end - fresh bread, grissini and more. There is a €2,50 charge for the bread (pane e coperto!). Water is €3 for a large bottle. The house wine was great (€6 per glass, generous pour). It doesn't open until 12:30 for lunch, then it fills up quickly.

Yelp
We had great pasta and apps. The service was good and the ambiance was perfect. The quality of the meal was high and the pricing was spot on. Will def go back.

Yelp
Visited Rome for the first time and had a wonderful meal here. From the perfectly cooked Cache de Pepe to the most tender Truffle Meatballs I have ever had, and the smoothest Borolo(chosen from the biggest book of wines I've ever seen), I would absolutely recommend this restaurant. Thank you all for a lovely dining experience.

Yelp
Matriccianella is another frequently visited place in Rome city center by us. Beautiful cute line-up outdoor tables, and the environment always warm and chic. Inside is even warmer, but the most fancy part is their private cellar, which hosts thousands (maybe) of wines! You can definitely ask to visit. It is a traditional Roman cuisine restaurant, so order whatever you want, as long as Romano! Carbonara, Bucatini all'Amatricciana, Coda, Trippa, etc etc. For the dessert, if you are going in Autumn/Winter season, try the seasonal chestnut mousse, you will fall in love with it! more details on my blog: https://www.gustobeats.com/best-places-to-eat-in-rome-for-a-3-day-rome-itinerary/

Yelp
Everything is delicious. Be sure to get there when they open for lunch. They fill up quickly.

Yelp
I found Ristorante Matricianella a refreshing change from most of the restaurants in this central Rome location, not focused on tourists, but serving traditional fare at a reasonable price to the locals. We were very pleased with all the dishes served to us, the wine was good and reasonably priced, and the service was very good. Tonight, we ordered Caprasi Salad (€10) and Pecorino Romano a Pere (€8.50), Spaghetti alla Carbonara (€11), Rigatoni Pomodoro (€10), Spaghetti Cacio a Pepe (€11), Carpaccio di Filetto di Manzo (€17 Excellent), and Abbacchio alla Scottadito (€16 -- I have to say, I did not know what I was getting myself in for. I read the English translation (grilled lamb) under the Italian name (Abbacchio alla Scottadito) -- not knowing I would receive a plate of roasted lamb bones. This is a Roman way of serving lamb, called "scottadito", or "finger burning." It requires you eat the ribs with your hands. I won't get caught again!) Five Stars, I recommend Ristorante Matricianella hightly.

Yelp
For local , Romanian customers. Great for lunch or dinner, we've had explore the rome and tried that place . Great service , tasty dishes... one thing , try to preorder for dinner before coming.

Yelp
We had nice family dinner at the restaurant. Service was very friendly. We enjoyed all the food we tasted! Very extensive wine selection.

Yelp
Highly recommend for anyone in the area! Staff speak little English so have an Italian call to make a reservation for you! Pasta is homemade and the best I've had in Italy. Thick noodles perfectly al dente. I tried pasta with arrabbiata sauce and it was outstanding. Pastas range from €10-15 which is a great deal for the quality. Side note: the wine list is 140 pages long!

Yelp
The serving staff seemed like they were in crisis half the time we were there. We ordered a starter, which they forgot and only when they brought our primi and we reminded them did they remember. Then half way through our starter came the first primo, which was left to go cold while I finished my starter. 15 minutes later my wife's pasta came and I had to sit waiting while she tried to eat it. I lived 3 years in Italy, one in Rome and I can honestly say I've never had such crappy service. What's more the food was massively over salted and when we pointed this out the waitress told us it was because of the cheese. Again I lived in Italy for three years and ate possibly 50 carbonaras and cacio e pepe in that time and never did I feel like I was drinking sea water. Avoid at all costs.

Yelp
Delicious pasta in a location full of touristy ripoff restaurants. Tourist area but non-tourist ripoff restaurant. Enjoyed our pastas here and the service is fantastic. You need reservations but we were lucky to find a table. We had the gnocchi four cheeses and also the pasta all'amatriciana. Both fantastic and not pricey at all. Skip all other touristy ripoffs around and come here. Make sure you make a reservation!

Lamom L.

Yelp
Amazing. We ate here on our first night in Rome on the recommendation of a local restaurant owner himself. We had high hopes for the pasta in Roma and this place met our expectations and more. We ordered the spaghetti with truffles (if you love truffles you must get this dish!), the arrabbiata pasta which was my husband's favorite, the lamb with potatoes which was also delicious (meat was very, very tender) and a couple of delicious salads to start which were also very fresh and delicious. Our waitress was lovely, spoke English and made some great recommendations. The restaurant for the most part was full of locals. The outdoor patio was great, even on a chilly night, because each table has heat lamps so we were very comfortable. It opened at 7:30pm though so we had to wait a little bit but it was well worth it. Extensive wine list. We grabbed a gelato cone right around the corner afterwards- our stomachs were full and happy.

Yelp
The location is really okay. It is close to all the essential attractions. This often means mediocre food, overpriced and with a very bad service and clientele. Matricianella, however, is different. Sure, I did not like the service. Smiles were not found and the overall service can be better. The food was really good though. A good plate of delicious pasta which showcased simplicity in its purest form - in a good way. There are better places around town, but Matricianella is authentic, delicous and located very close to many essential things. Skip your 'menu in English' and walk to this little place. You won't regret it.

Yelp
This place came highly recommended by both a friend from the USA and our proprietess. Unfortunately, our experience was not as anticipated. The appetizers were below expectations, the main courses were adequate and the service mediocre. So many places, so many choices and this one doesn't like tourists. Find somewhere else.

Phillippa S.

Yelp
This place is always amazing. EVERYTHING about their menu is delicious. I love it. My fave is the truffle spaghetti. Awesome
google avatar

Christopher N.

Yelp
Classic local cuisine. Been here three times and never disappoints. Local wine list is good and economical. Lamb dishes are excellent. Primi portion just right, leaving space for secondi.

Yelp
On a five week travel study in Italy I ate at many restaurants with friends. Granted, most everything we all sampled was great. This place, however, was definitely the best and I recommend it to everyone I know who gets a chance to go to Rome. The experience was cozy, quaint, and the food (and wine) was so delicious my friends and I became so pleasantly giggly and uplifted. I ordered the penne arrabiata which was the right kind of spicy, had some kind of red that the server recommended, and finished off with their tira misu, which was heavenly. There weren't many tourists and we felt like we were eating traditional Roman cuisine. Go here!
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic Italian restaurant and some classic Roman food as I was, this is the place for you. Pleasing ambiance, reasonable prices and PHENOMENAL food.

Patricia C.

Yelp
We loved this lovely Roma ristorante. We sat outside and enjoyed the lovely setting and delicious food.

Yelp
I will go back to matricianella every single time I'm in ROMA. This is quintessential local cuisine - dripping in Romans [not tourists]. Just mouthwatering - and their house wine? Doesn't get any better. Best dinner in ROMA.

Cathy M.

Yelp
Do not understand the great reviews. This was mediocre at best and the lamb was inedible. With so many great restaurants in Rome, not sure how this one stays open.

Miray A.

Yelp
It's a nice classic restaurant. Sitting outside is very nice in good weather. They have a classic menu and lots of awards but the food is cozy, not so uptight. It's a comfortable place and staff is friendly too. You should come here when in Rome!

Yelp
This restaurant was close by to our hotel and we thought we'd give it a try. It was only 8pm but the indoor seating was already packed. Seems like a good sign for good food, right? We were seated on the outdoor heated patio. Though it was covered, it was right in the alleyway and you can still smell the car exhaust. We waited for about 10 minutes before the waiter came around. The menu was mediocre, it just sounded better in Italian on their website. I asked for the Carpaccio....but they didn't have it, although it was on the menu. Nothing else really spoke to my tummy. My husband advised me not to eat the steaks in Italy because they really can't cook it well or it just doesn't taste good. Even so, nothing else sounds appetizing so I had to get the steak and take one for the Yelpers. I did get the Cicoria di campo, which turned out to be pretty good! It was steamed chicory, and I needed that green. Since I've been in Italy, I haven't had much fruits or veggies. So my steak came out....mind you, they didn't ask how I wanted it cooked. It was a thin slab of meat...not sure what cut, could have been a New York, not sure. It had some taste (pan fried taste) but was very dry. For a steak, yes, it was disappointing. I wonder if I could find a Morton's or Ruth Chris here.....yummmm! This isn't my kind of restaurant. I see the TripAdvisor rating is good, then again, we all have different taste. Now La Rosetta which isn't too far from here IS my kind of place!! So damn good!! I give Matricianella a 3 star, it's not bad, then again it wasn't great.
google avatar

Pat P.

Yelp
Matricianella is located in a very convenient part of Roma, and the food and service are both fairly satisfactory. You can get a delicious bottle of chilled white for less than 15 euros, which is fantastic value. I will remember the spaghetti alla carbonara fondly, as well as the lamb chops. It's an inexpensive place to eat, and I'd certainly recommend it if you're in the area.
google avatar

CJ L.

Yelp
Two local Italians recommended this restaurant - close to downtown and the Vatican. My companion said it was one of the best meals she has ever eaten (and she travels alot!)

Jessica M.

Yelp
This place is very very basic Roman food. Nothing exceptional here at all. I would skip it.

Daniel C.

Yelp
A little hard to find . . . in the rain . . . at night . . . but well worth the effort. Excellent food and service. Special shout out to the late night Italian businessman who pointed us in the right direction.
