Matsu Matcha

Its very good but I do think since its very new and they soft open last week that they ran out of gelato during the last two hours on Friday night which kind unfortunately I couldn’t try level 3. Their matcha latte however taste like oat milk and from what I seen they used the regular blue oatly and not the barista edition which over power the matcha. Overall very much enjoyed my visit then and would love to come again to try the other levels they have.

Soft opening hours - opens at 4pm. Good matcha and clean minimalist space. Only notes are that iced matcha latte had too much ice (more than half the cup) and you can only sample one Gelato per customer. At least 2 samples seems more reasonable if you're torn between flavors. Still matcha was on point for the latte and Gelato.

Literally worst matcha I ever had! I had to go home and fix it cause I couldn’t even take another sip. I also drink my matcha with just water and no sweetener but this was just straight sour. Didn’t ask if I wanted a sample of the ice cream. I was looking at the ice cream for a few minutes. The ice cream was good which is why I didn’t give this place a 1 star review.

Have had a lot of matcha in my life Had a long line on Saturday, you place an order on a kiosk, then you pick up (get one sampling of ice cream) - ultra rich matcha ice cream was 5/5 (so thick and rich, worth the +$1, but also pretty sweet— i’d say it’s very rich but not bitter) - triple matcha was meh wouldn’t recommend

Exciting new matcha place to hit Ktown! 1 sample of gelato per person. I tried the ultra rich level and it was subtly sweet with a hint of bitterness. I don’t understand why there is only one kiosk and no menu so it takes extra long for people to order. The layout doesn’t really make sense either for the flow of the crowd. There’s some seating available. Hopefully they get faster at this but I’m looking forward to trying more things.

Matcha is good but nothing to rave about. Very cute inside, but I waited 15 minutes for my drink. They served four people who ordered after me before I got mine. It was basically empty when I walked in. They also didn’t have any syrups

Absolutely the worst matcha I’ve ever had. Let’s start with the line and how it could be fixed. You have 1 iPad for ALL orders and if you are sitting to the left, you are swarmed by people in the line. This layout is horrible for guests trying to enjoy their drinks/gelato. You need at minimum 2 iPads and maybe 3 if you last more than a year. Gelato bar area is off to the right but you have to order on the other side of the store where the line is, so it doesn’t make sense to order first if you want a sample. There should be a separate iPad for the gelato section on the far right. There are many videos showing people trying all the flavors but today I was told I could only get one when I asked for 2. Why would this be limited when you have 5 different levels of matcha plus 3 non matcha flavors? I’m hoping it wasn’t racism because all the videos of people trying flavors were Asian and I am not. Ordering is simple on the iPad but the photos on the iPad were nothing close to what I ordered. I watched the guy make my drink and everything is done on a scale, so that’s how they are measuring everything. I ordered a strawberry matcha latte and I was fine with the bottom 20% being strawberry. Then ice. Then came the problem. The guy just dumped almond milk in there and bent over to see the level. If this is done by a scale, why is he checking the level? Almond milk was 75% and then a splash of matcha. I was praying this was not my drink but sadly it was. I asked the same lady who advised me of the strict 1 sample policy that they go by instructions and the scale. I said the photo on the screen shows these layers as almost even if not more matcha layer and this is all milk. At this time the guy who sloppily made my drink walked over to hear and just made a face and walked away. I just went to 3 other matcha places in the past 2 weeks and Ive never seen this drink made with that much milk. The taste: strawberry almond milk with a slight hint of matcha. Absolutely horrible. The entire thing tasted like almond milk and was terrible. With dozens of options out there, do not be fooled by IG or TikTok videos because what you are seeing online is not what you are getting, especially at this location. Never going back and I could never recommend as there are so many issues with this shop and it’s a waste of time and money.

If you enjoy lighter sweetness matcha drinks then this place is perfect! Personally, I recommend their Hojicha, it’s perfect balance of sweetness and tea heavy :)
