One of the highlights of my Japan trip, impeccable service. We walked in to check in, had our luggage taken aside, and we were swept into the waiting area to be served hand towels, green tea, and welcoming treats.
We experienced a tatami room, and while I'm usually against sleeping on the floor, this was surprisingly comfortable. The toilet room is separate from the shower/soaking room, and the public spring room is relatively empty around 9 PM. Every morning, the bottoms of your shoes have been cleaned. When you return to the room at the end of the day, fresh towels and yukatas (japanese robes) have been provided.
If you have not experience a kaiseki meal, please be sure to enjoy the amount of care and thought put into one of these meals. Trays are brought into the room with artful small bites for each person to enjoy.
I only wish I could have afforded to stay here for a full week to enjoy Kyoto for more than a couple of days.
