Comfy and cozy guesthouse. The host Brian is very friendly and will provide tips for your visit to Matsumoto. The private futon room was very comfortable - very nice to be provided a hot water bottle (in January). Great to see an Irish owned guesthouse here in Japan!

The host was very hospitable and accommodating to get us settled with a place to stay during a very busy season. We had a private room, which was spacious and comfortable, with shared access to bath and kitchen. The room did not lock, but we felt very safe leaving our belongings. Brian provided great tips on sites and events to visit in the local area.

lovely place, extremely cozy. best way to have a sleep in a traditional japanese room, with the budget and the vibe of an hostel. nice people and nice environment. Brian, the owner, has a very beautiful energy. Thank you!

Uncomfortable yet pricey. Very basic, the bunk bed is small and no privacy as the curtain doesn’t draw all the way and it’s not totally opaque. Common space is also very small. It’s ridiculous to charge so much for this quality.

There are dormitory rooms, with tatami flooring. You could sleep on futon on the floor or choose a bed slightly raised based on availability. Wifi is available and is good. The beds have a charging point. The place has a washing machine, and a functional kitchen and a common room. Walking distance from the station.

I enjoyed my stay here. It’s very homey. The owner was very warm and friendly. It’s a basic accommodation but it has everything I needed. The futon was surprisingly very comfortable. It could get really cold in the evening and early morning so please don’t forget to wear thick socks. Also, conveniently located. Easily accessible from the station. There is also a craft beer place across.

Hey guys, if you're looking for a friendly and cozy spot for your Matsumoto stay look no further! Central location to the train station and tourist locations plus pachinko nearby if that's your thing! Brian the owner has created a wonderful location for travelers from all walks of life and he has a wonderful group of people on staff! As for the property it is a traditional Japanese house with all the essentials plus more, if you want to experience the Japanese home life this is your spot!

Very nice stay at Matsumoto Backpackers. The host, Brian, is very welcoming, and the community of travelers is very warm. 5 minute walk from the station and 15 from the castle.
