Matsumoto Marunouchi Hotel

We had a truly wonderful stay at this hotel in Matsumoto. The location was perfect, centrally located and very convenient for exploring the area. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The rooms were comfortable and the overall experience made our time in Matsumoto even more enjoyable. The staff deserve a very special mention. Everyone we met was kind, professional, and went out of their way to help. I would especially like to thank the young woman with the trainee badge. She was doing such an amazing job, so polite, and made us feel so welcome. I would also like to thank the receptionist who assisted us with our luggage transfer. Our suitcases were around 30kg each, and without their help the process would have been overwhelming. They were so efficient and thoughtful, and we are incredibly grateful. Thank you so much for your hospitality, it made all the difference to our trip.

Room was clean and had all the basics, but everything felt about 25 percent undersized and the peak of 1970s mid-range hotel decor. The window in our room was quite large, nice open view. The location is excellent for both the castle and the older charming parts of town. Breakfast was awful, set up in the older building they use for their photos, a huge ballroom with 25 foot ceilings. But it felt like being in a cavernous school cafeteria, they had a large array of both Japanese & western breakfast items. Not sure about the Japanese stuff, but the western items were SO sub-par, we had to force ourselves to take a small portion of things to try. It looks like Matsumoto doesn't really have higher end hotels, I don't know if there are better alternatives. Again, the photo of an elegant older building with tall arched windows is not the hotel, it is an adjacent building that they have annexed as an event space.

We liked the hotel, the room was bigger than I expected and the shower was excellent. It has an ideal location, not far from the castle and close to various restaurants. |We didn't have breakfast there as there are places not far away that ate cheaper and probably better. It's a bit of a walk to the train station but easily doable as there are not the crowds of people you fin in Tokyo.

The hotel wasn’t so easy to find in the side street and entrance is inconspicuous. It looks good when you walk in. The front desk staff are friendly n helpful. The room is small but everything works well except one big issue is the beds. One bed is slanted (so can slip down easily) and both beds are sinking. It wasn’t a pleasant sleep. The breakfast was delicious indeed and the staff are friendly. There’s no swim pool, no onsen and no gym.

We had a great stay at this hotel in Matsumoto. The location was perfect - 5 min walk to the Castle, 5 min walk to Nawate Street riverside market, 12 min to Kusama Art museum. The hotel is near a main street and there is no view from the rooms but it is quiet. The atmosphere was warm and front desk staff extremely helpful. The rooms were comfortable. The breakfast buffet was great and we loved the ambience in that room.

Very well managed and invitingly decorated property, conveniently located by Matsumoto castle. Highly recommend visiting. One of the highlights is the breakfast spread as well as the broad selection of bath salts.

Easy walk to the castle. Lovely quiet clean hotel with friendly staff. Added bonus of free bicycles which we used twice to explore the city. Very convenient coin laundry.

Great location, 5 minutes walk to the Castle, 15 min to Kusama museum and 5-min to the riverside market. Service is ok. Breakfast buffet is very good. No Onsen in this hotel.
